CBSE home tutors in Durgapur: NCERT understood, competency questions practised, board answers written in full

Durgapur children study under three boards: the West Bengal board, CBSE and the CISCE. For a CBSE family the useful question is not which board is harder but what CBSE in particular asks for, and how a tutor can supply it week by week. That means NCERT chapters read with care rather than skimmed, regular practice on the competency questions CBSE now sets, and written answers that keep their steps, units and diagrams in the board year. Below you will find the route from Class 6 to Class 12, what is new for Classes 9 and 10 this session, the senior marking scheme, what a move between CBSE and the state board involves, and how tutors get to six parts of the city. Abhinandan Tiwary, a Class 10 CBSE and ICSE maths teacher, contributed the maths advice; Aaditya Kashyap, who teaches science for both boards, the science advice.

CBSE beside the West Bengal board

We do not publish shares for each board in Durgapur, because no reliable figures exist. What matters for tuition is how differently the two calendars and papers work. The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education issues its academic calendar for a calendar year, wants free textbooks in pupils' hands by January, and normally holds three summative evaluations in the first weeks of April, August and December. Its Class 9 and 10 maths is taught from the Ganit Prakash books, and the sciences are named Physical Science and Environment and Life Science and Environment. A CBSE school, by contrast, follows NCERT books, runs its session from April, and examines Class 10 on an 80-mark board paper with 20 marks assessed by the school.

The difference shows up in the kind of help a child needs. A CBSE student's sticking points are usually the case-based questions and the length and order of written answers. A tutor who has taught only the state board should show that they know CBSE's sample papers and marking schemes before taking on a CBSE child. Our West Bengal board tutors in Durgapur page explains Madhyamik and Higher Secondary in detail.

The CBSE route, class by class

What CBSE asks of a Durgapur student at each stage
ClassWho examinesTypical difficultyWhere a tutor helps
6 to 8The schoolFractions and integers; reading a science passage slowly enoughFixing basics and writing every step
9The school, an 80-mark paper and 20 internalAlgebra and science both step up togetherShort weekly chapter tests; deciding on the Advanced paper
10CBSE, 80 marks plus 20 from the schoolCase-based questions and complete answersSample papers marked to the official scheme
11The schoolA sharp jump in physics, chemistry and mathsGetting the basics firm while there is still time
12CBSE: theory, with practical or internal marksThe full syllabus revised while entrance work runsA single plan for both

Each Class 10 subject needs 33 per cent to pass. Weakness that surfaces in Class 9 algebra tends to have roots in fractions and simple equations from years before, so tuition in Classes 6 to 8 should repair before it rushes ahead.

Classes 9 and 10 under the 2026–27 curriculum

Under the 2026–27 scheme, Class 9 has one common 80-mark paper each for mathematics and science. Beyond that, a student can choose to add a 25-mark Advanced paper in one of the two subjects, in both, or skip it; every question on it is higher-order and goes past the main syllabus. Those marks stay outside the aggregate, but a score of 50 per cent or more is recorded on the marksheet. The Basic and Standard split in maths is ending, and the Class 10 students of 2026–27 are the last group to take it. Abhinandan's advice for maths is simple: the Advanced paper is for a child who already likes maths and wants a stretch, and it will not repair weak basics.

From this scheme on, Class 10 has two board sittings. Everyone takes the first. After passing it, a student may use the second to try to improve as many as three subjects from science, maths, social science and languages. Plan the year around the first sitting; the second is only a fallback.

How Classes 11 and 12 are marked

Theory and practical or internal marks, CBSE Senior Secondary 2026–27
Subject and codeTheoryThe rest
Physics 042, Chemistry 043, Biology 0447030 practical
Mathematics 041, or Applied Mathematics 241 (one or the other)8020 internal
Commerce: Accountancy 055, Business Studies 054 and Economics 0308020 internal

The Class 12 paper covers the whole Class 12 syllabus, and CBSE has said senior papers will give more weight to using ideas in real settings. Each year's sample paper shows the design, so make sure the tutor is using this year's. In the board year, read our posts on Class 12 physics strategy, organic and inorganic chemistry and Class 12 calculus and algebra.

Competency questions: read first, then solve

Around half of a CBSE secondary paper is competency-based: a short case, a data table or an everyday situation, followed by questions that test whether a concept can be used. A child who knows the chapter can still lose these marks by reading too fast. Aaditya suggests spending a slice of every science session on a single passage of this kind: underline the data, decide which idea from the chapter it is testing, and write only after that. For maths the equivalent is to set up the equation from the words before calculating anything. Practise with the NCERT exemplar and CBSE's published sample papers; ordinary worksheets seldom match the style.

Moving between CBSE and the state board

Some Durgapur students change board after Class 10. The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education lists CBSE among the boards it accepts for entry, so a CBSE Class 10 student can join Higher Secondary. The adjustment is in testing: the Council examines in four semesters, two of them entirely multiple choice, and allows no calculator in any semester paper. A state-board student moving into a CBSE Class 11 meets the opposite change, longer written answers and NCERT wording. Either way, a tutor who knows both systems can close the gap in the first months. Our guide to choosing a board and stream helps with the decision itself.

What a useful CBSE session looks like

In Classes 9 and 10, a pair of shorter weekday sessions tends to beat a single long one on Sunday. Each session can follow a simple shape: first, the errors from the most recent school test, traced back to the NCERT text; next, one fresh concept, tried on book exercises and then on an exemplar or case-based item; last, one complete answer, checked for working, units, diagrams and layout. A child who thinks in Bengali or Hindi can hear the explanation in that language and still be held to a clean answer in English. Ask for a short note each month listing chapters covered, test marks and repeated mistakes. Subject pages for Durgapur cover maths, science, physics, chemistry, biology and English; see also our Class 10 maths preparation plan and Class 10 science notes.

How CBSE tutors reach six Durgapur localities

  • Shankarpur: say whether you are in Shankarpur or Shankarpur West, then the road and house or flat number; tutors often come from Bidhannagar or Saptarshi Park.
  • Saptarshi Park: homes include houses and flats along Saptarshi Park Road; for a flat, send building, block and floor and tell the guard the tutor's name.
  • Palashdiha: lanes are narrower than in the planned areas, so describe the way in from the main road you turn off near the Grand Trunk Road.
  • Sagarbhanga: one of the oldest settled parts of the city, with old lanes and newer houses together; give the para name and a house or shop the tutor can ask for.
  • Shyampur: a smaller area beside Sagarbhanga; say whether you are nearer Sagarbhanga or Muchipara and name the closest shop or club.
  • Arra: just beyond the corporation area; write Arra or Arrah Kalinagar as on your address and mention Muchipara or Shankarpur as the nearest big reference.

The Bidhannagar and Shankarpur and Muchipara, Sagarbhanga and Arra zone pages add timing tips, and the Durgapur home tuition guide describes each zone.

Choosing between home and online

Sitting beside the child works better for the younger classes, for anyone easily distracted by a screen, and for work judged line by line, such as maths, physics problems, equations in chemistry and accounts. A screen works for a quick doubt check on a school evening, for a senior subject whose specialist is far away, and families at the edges of Durgapur where fewer tutors live close by. One tutor can often do both. Read online tuition in Durgapur and the home versus online comparison.

Five things to ask in the CBSE demo

  1. "Which year's sample paper will you use?" It should be the current one from the CBSE academic site.
  2. "Could you try one case-based item with my child now?" Notice whether the tutor teaches how to read it, or only supplies the answer.
  3. "Have you taught the state board too?" Useful if your child might switch after Class 10.
  4. "Which days and hours can you keep through the school test season?" Fixed slots matter more than long ones.
  5. "How will I know progress is real?" Ask for a monthly note of chapters, marks and repeated errors.

CBSE Home Tutor in Durgapur (Classes 6–12): common questions

What is the fee for a CBSE home tutor in Durgapur?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each CBSE tutor in Durgapur sets their own fee, shown to you before the demo.

How is CBSE different from the West Bengal board for a Durgapur student?

CBSE follows NCERT books, runs its session from April and examines Class 10 on an 80-mark board paper with 20 school marks. The West Bengal board issues a calendar-year academic calendar, teaches maths from Ganit Prakash and holds three summatives a year. Tuition for CBSE leans on case-based questions and complete written answers.

What changes for CBSE Class 9 and 10 students in Durgapur in 2026–27?

Class 9 now has a common 80-mark paper in maths and in science, with an optional 25-mark Advanced paper in either or both. Advanced marks stay outside the aggregate. The Basic and Standard maths split is ending, and Class 10 has two board sittings, the first compulsory and the second for improving up to three subjects.

How are CBSE Class 12 science and commerce papers marked for a Durgapur student?

Under the 2026–27 senior curriculum, Physics, Chemistry and Biology carry 70 theory marks and 30 practical marks. Mathematics or Applied Mathematics, of which a student takes one, is 80 theory and 20 internal, and so are Accountancy, Business Studies and Economics. The current sample paper shows each year's design.

Can a Durgapur student move from CBSE Class 10 to West Bengal Higher Secondary?

Yes, a CBSE Class 10 student can move to Higher Secondary, because the Council lists CBSE among the boards it accepts. The change is in testing: four semesters, two entirely multiple choice, and no calculator in any semester paper. A tutor who knows both systems can close that gap in the first months of Class 11.

How should a CBSE student in Durgapur practise competency-based questions?

Practise competency questions by reading the case or data first, naming the concept it points to, and only then writing the answer. Roughly half of a CBSE secondary paper is competency-based. Use the NCERT exemplar and CBSE sample papers rather than general worksheets, and give one passage a slot in every session.

How do CBSE tutors reach Saptarshi Park, Shyampur or Palashdiha?

Tutors reach Saptarshi Park from Bidhannagar or Shankarpur by Saptarshi Park Road, and Shyampur from Sagarbhanga or Muchipara. Palashdiha is reached from the main road near the Grand Trunk Road. For a flat send building, block and floor; elsewhere give the lane, a nearby shop and the house number.

Is online tuition suitable for a CBSE student in Durgapur?

Online tuition suits a quick doubt session on a school evening and a senior subject whose specialist lives far away. Younger children, easily distracted students and line-by-line work such as maths, physics problems and accounts usually do better with a tutor at the table. Many Durgapur families mix both with the same tutor.
