Tutoring in Durgapur: what to know
For tutors, Durgapur divides into five zones on NXTutors. City Centre, A-Zone and B-Zone covers the civic middle and the planned townships to its north; Benachity and Bhiringi takes in the older west out to Dhandabag; Fuljhore, Mamra and Palashdiha, with Amarabati Colony, forms the east-central belt; Bidhannagar and Shankarpur, with Saptarshi Park, makes up the grid-planned south-east; and Muchipara, Sagarbhanga and Arra runs south through Shyampur to Bamunara on the Grand Trunk Road. Quarters and independent houses on numbered roads are usual in the townships and Bidhannagar, while the west and Fuljhore are lanes that grew without a plan. Most tutors get around by two-wheeler, city bus or auto-rickshaw.
Durgapur students sit the West Bengal board, CBSE or CISCE, and IB or IGCSE learners usually study online. On the state side, WBBSE runs the school years to Class 10 and the Madhyamik Pariksha, and WBCHSE runs the two-year Higher Secondary course, where a student takes two languages and three electives from one set: science, commerce or arts. Many homes speak Bengali, Hindi or both, and schools teach in more than one medium, so state your teaching medium plainly. If you also teach at coaching classes in the city, say so, and keep your one-to-one hour for the student's own gaps rather than a repeat of the group class.
You can teach at home, online or both. Imagine a Mamra parent asking for a Class 9 maths tutor. We pick two or three names, starting with tutors whose home is in Mamra, then tutors already teaching a child there, then the wider zone, the whole city and finally online. The parent reads your fee on the profile, the first lesson is a free demo, and if the family moves to another tutor later, that change costs them nothing. In the old lanes of Benachity, Bhiringi and Fuljhore a map pin saves the first visit, and the main roads around City Centre and Muchipara slow down in the evening, so add only the localities where you can turn up on time, week after week.
How you get tuition work on NXTutors
Six steps from applying to your first class. Swipe to see each step.
-
1
Sign up with a one-time code
Create your account with a one-time code sent to your phone or email. Then add your subjects, classes and boards, the West Bengal board, CBSE or ICSE among them, your teaching medium and the Durgapur localities you can reach.
-
2
Upload your ID for the ID check
Then add a government photo ID. That is the ID check all new tutors complete. It proves identity, nothing more; nobody runs a police or background check on you.
-
3
Your profile carries the Verified badge
Families then see your boards, the localities you cover from A-Zone to Muchipara, your free hours and the fee you set; the Verified badge appears only after the ID check is complete.

4
A family nearby sends a request
Picture a parent in Shankarpur asking for help. Two or three tutors are suggested: residents of Shankarpur first, then tutors who already go there, then the Bidhannagar and Shankarpur zone, then the rest of Durgapur and online.

5
Free demo; the family sees your fee first
Your fee is on the parent's screen before any booking. Next comes a free demo at the family's home, with a parent requested to stay in, where you can judge how far the student has got and which evenings are truly free.

Teach at home, online or both
From there it is your choice: home lessons in the localities you picked, online classes for students across West Bengal or India, or both, such as a Sunday visit in Sagarbhanga and weekday lessons on screen.
Boards you can teach in Durgapur
In Durgapur you can teach West Bengal board students working towards Madhyamik and the Higher Secondary examinations, students of CBSE and CISCE schools, and a smaller group of IB or IGCSE learners, most of whom prefer screen lessons. For Madhyamik, read the notices WBBSE posts; for Higher Secondary, the subject sets, project and practical marks and semester examinations that WBCHSE lists. Base CBSE work on NCERT and cbseacademic.nic.in, and ICSE or ISC work on what CISCE publishes. Your profile should show each board, class range and teaching medium.
WBBSE
Up to Class 10; Madhyamik Pariksha (Class 10)
The Class 10 exam WBBSE holds is called the Madhyamik Pariksha, or Secondary Examination. Paschim Burdwan, the district Durgapur is in, comes under the board's Burdwan Regional Council Office. Teach from the board's own textbooks in the student's medium, Bengali or English, and take routines and notices only from wbbse.wb.gov.in.
WBCHSE
Higher Secondary (Classes 11–12)
Set up under the WBCHSE Act of 1975, the council runs the two-year Higher Secondary course. Students take two languages and three electives from Set I (science), Set II (commerce) or Set III (arts), plus an optional elective. Its site lists project and practical marks and semester examinations, so check the current rules on wbchse.wb.gov.in before planning a term.
For a Durgapur CBSE student, build each lesson on the NCERT chapter in hand, then test it with the sample questions and marking guidance posted on cbseacademic.nic.in. Many students learn in English at school but think in Bengali or Hindi, so a short explanation in the home language before returning to NCERT terms can help. Practise full written answers, not only objective questions.
CISCE
ICSE (Class 10); ISC (Class 12)
CISCE students write at length in many subjects, read prescribed literature in English and hand in project work, first for ICSE and then for ISC. Work from the regulations and specimen papers that cisce.org carries. A tutor at ease with these papers can mix a few home students in one Durgapur zone with ISC learners taught online elsewhere.
IB
Diploma Programme (Classes 11–12)
Expect IB Diploma students from Durgapur to meet you on screen, with each subject guide on ibo.org as the reference. Coaching a student through planning and drafts of the Internal Assessment or Extended Essay is fine; writing any part of it is not. One fixed weekly time keeps the two-year course on track.
Two exam bodies offer IGCSE, so check which one the student is entered with, Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel, and whether the paper is core or extended. Work through old papers with their mark schemes and teach what each command word asks for. Syllabus documents for Cambridge sit on cambridgeinternational.org; Durgapur learners mostly study this online.
