What home tuition costs in Durgapur

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.

Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Science home tutor in Durgapur, Classes 6 to 10: one subject that becomes two, three or more

Ask a Durgapur Class 9 student how many science subjects they have and the answer depends on the school. A child under the West Bengal board now carries a Physical Science book and a Life Science book, and will sit them on separate days of Madhyamik. A CBSE classmate still has one science paper. An ICSE friend down the road writes three. Each needs a tutor who knows which of these is on the desk and explains in a comfortable language. Share those details with NXTutors and we come back with two or three science tutors for your area, every fee shown up front. Your first class with the tutor you pick is a free demo.

How does a science tutor's job change between Class 6 and Class 10?

Aaditya Kashyap wrote the CBSE and ICSE advice here. Everything said about the West Bengal board is drawn from the board's website. Use the right-hand column of the table as a quick test of whether tuition is on track.

Science at home in Durgapur, year by year: the tutor's priority and a quick test a parent can run
YearTutor's priorityQuick test for parents
Classes 6–7Turning the book's activities (NCERT's Curiosity on CBSE, the state board's own books, or the ICSE school's text) into a written sentence plus a small labelled sketchOpen the notebook: are proper science words used?
Class 8Separating physics, chemistry and biology ideas; the first numericals and word equationsPick any numerical: does each quantity carry a unit?
Class 9A big jump in content, and on the state board, two science books where there was oneIs a weak chapter mended in weeks, not left for later?
Class 10Every chapter practised the way the board marks itHas a whole paper been written against the clock yet?

Through Class 8, a single tutor for all of science is usually right: that person can tell whether a wrong answer came from weak arithmetic or a muddled idea. From Class 9 some Durgapur families split the load between two subject tutors, one taking maths with physical science and the other life science or the languages. Our national science home tutor page explains how matching works, and the page for a Class 9 science tutor deals with that difficult year.

Physical Science and Life Science on the West Bengal board: what should tuition look like?

Madhyamik, the Class 10 examination of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, is run for Durgapur's district, Paschim Burdwan, through the board's Burdwan Regional Council Office. The weekly routine the board lays down for Classes 9 and 10 gives science two slots, named Physical Science and Environment and Life Science and Environment. Environment is not a separate paper; its themes are woven through both books. Across the two years schools also run an internal formative evaluation, with summatives normally in early April, early August and early December.

Three practical consequences for a family in Durgapur:

  1. Plan the two sciences apart. Physical Science is where numericals, chemical equations, light and electricity sit. Life Science asks for longer descriptive answers and careful biological drawings. Separate notebooks, separate weekly targets.
  2. Write in the paper's language. If your child studies in Bengali medium, practice answers should use the Bengali terms from the board's books. A tutor can still explain a stubborn idea in Hindi or English first.
  3. Mind the order of the exams. The board's routine for Madhyamik 2027 puts Physical Science and then Life Science after Mathematics, near the end of the series, each on its own day. Have both revised before the first paper, not between papers.

Marks for the board's science papers are not quoted on this page; read the current syllabus and routine on wbbse.wb.gov.in. Every Madhyamik subject is covered on our West Bengal board tutors in Durgapur page.

CBSE Class 10 science: where are the 80 board marks?

Five units share the 80 marks of CBSE's board paper, and they are far from equal:

CBSE Class 10 science, 2026-27: the five units by board marks, and what each needs at home
UnitMarksInside itHome practice
World of Living25How living things carry out life processes; coordination; reproduction; heredityLabelled diagrams and process steps in order
Chemical Substances25Equations and reaction types; acids, bases and salts; metals and non-metals; carbon and its compoundsBalanced equations every session
Effects of Current13Electricity, and what current does to a magnetic fieldCircuit numericals with units
Natural Phenomena12Light, the eye, and why the sky and rainbows look as they doRay diagrams drawn from memory
Our Environment5A short unitQuick revision so these marks are not given away

The other 20 marks come from the school: 5 each for periodic tests, multiple assessment, the portfolio and practical-based subject enrichment. Sorted by skill, recall and understanding make up half the board paper, application 30%, and analysis or evaluation the remaining fifth. For chapter notes, go to our CBSE Class 10 science notes; for planning the board year, see the Class 10 science tutor page and our CBSE home tutors in Durgapur page.

What do the CBSE question types and school-marked topics mean for practice?

CBSE's 2026-27 sample paper runs to 39 questions. It opens with twenty one-mark items, a blend of multiple-choice and assertion–reason. Then come six questions for two marks, seven for three, three four-mark items built around a case or source, and finally three long answers for five. A tutor should practise each block on its own terms: instant recall for the one-markers; one clear point per mark in short answers; a slow, careful reading of the passage or data before any case-based answer; and a diagram or equation supported by points in the long answers. Sample papers and marking schemes from cbseacademic are the safest practice material.

Three topics are marked in school this year rather than on the board paper: evolution; how elements are arranged in the periodic table; and electromagnetic induction together with the generator and motor. Teach them properly anyway, because Class 11 builds on all three. The curriculum also names 14 experiments that board questions draw on, which makes the practical file worth revising from.

All students sit the main Class 10 exam; eligible students may then take one optional extra attempt at up to three subjects, science among them. Get the dates only from cbse.gov.in, and treat the main exam as the real one. Our board-year planner maps the months.

Is your child's Class 9 CBSE science book the new one?

It should be. CBSE's 2026-27 curriculum follows Exploration, NCERT's newer Class 9 book, with the annual exam still at 80 plus 20 internal. Matter is the biggest unit at 27, then the living world at 25, motion, force, work and sound at 23, and the Earth as a system at 5. Hand-me-down notes and guides were written for the earlier book, so ask the tutor to plan from the chapters in your child's own copy.

Why does an ICSE student in Durgapur need a different science plan?

Because there are three papers, not one. CISCE examines Physics, Chemistry and Biology separately at Class 10, each with internal marks of its own. The school picks the textbooks within the CISCE syllabus, so the tutor should teach from those books and from the council's specimen papers, not from an NCERT plan. ICSE examiners reward exact definitions and fully worked numericals. Tutors with ICSE experience may be fewer in your part of Durgapur, so start looking early and consider online lessons. More on our ICSE and ISC tutors in Durgapur page.

Six parts of Durgapur: what makes the after-school science hour work?

Science usually fits between school and the evening meal, so the tutor's journey must be short. Tutors for every locality are listed on our Durgapur home tutors page.

City Centre
Homes lie in lanes and blocks behind the main roads. Give the block or road, the flat or house number and one shop sign, and book the hour that follows school, before evening errands start.
B-Zone
A planned township zone of quarters on straight numbered roads. Write the road, the quarter number and your side of B-Zone. If sports or music take the evenings, two short weekday lessons and a longer one at the weekend may suit.
Bhiringi
Also written Bhiringee; it grew without a plan, and directions usually start from Bhiringi More. Say which side of the crossing you are on and share a map pin the evening before the first visit.
Dhandabag
On the western edge, with homes more spread out and fewer tutors living nearby. A home visit for the harder science and an online lesson for the rest is a sensible mix here.
Fuljhore
Many children attend Bengali-medium schools on the state board, alongside English-medium CBSE and ICSE pupils. State the medium clearly so the tutor practises answers in the right language.
Mamra
Homes range from houses to flats. For a flat, send the building, block and floor, and mention where the tutor can leave a two-wheeler during the lesson.

Read the zone pages for City Centre, A-Zone and B-Zone and Fuljhore, Mamra and Palashdiha for more, or our Durgapur home tuition guide for every zone.

Where do Class 10 science marks quietly slip away?

On every board, small habits separate full marks from a near miss:

  • Light. Arrowheads on every ray; virtual rays dotted; the lens or mirror shown with its proper symbol.
  • Electricity. Standard circuit symbols; the ammeter placed in series; the voltmeter connected across the component it measures.
  • The body. Heart, nephron and gut drawn cleanly, labels spelt right in the language of the exam.
  • Chemistry. No unbalanced equation ever left on the page, and state symbols written whenever asked.
  • Genetics. The full cross set out before any ratio is written down.

During the free demo, ask the tutor to teach the chapter your child's class is on now, and notice whether these points come up without prompting. Our demo class checklist has more to watch for. If it does not click, another tutor from the shortlist gives the next demo, and changing tutor later costs nothing.

How much does a science tutor at home in Durgapur charge?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor fixes their own rate. For a child between Classes 6 and 10, it is worth asking how the tutor would balance new chapters against revision before each summative or term test, and whether one lesson a week could happen online. You can see every fee before the demo, and the Durgapur home tuition fees guide suggests further questions.

What should you tell us when asking for a science tutor?

The class and board, the medium, the part of science that is hardest (Physical or Life Science on the state board, or a particular unit on CBSE or ICSE), your neighbourhood with a landmark, and which afternoons are free. We send back two or three science tutors with their fees; you invite one to a free demo. Where no suitable tutor can come at that hour, we suggest online lessons or a mix. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after the ID check is complete (how the ID check works). For Classes 11 and 12, our Durgapur pages for physics, chemistry and biology take over; families elsewhere in West Bengal can look at science tutors in Kolkata.

Science Home Tutor in Durgapur: common questions

How much does a science home tutor for Classes 6 to 10 cost in Durgapur?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Science tutors in Durgapur set their own fees. Ask how each would split the year between new chapters and summative revision, and whether one weekly session could be online.

How do we request a science tutor for a Durgapur child in Classes 6 to 10?

Send NXTutors the class, board, medium, the science that gives trouble, your neighbourhood with a landmark and the afternoons that suit. We reply with two or three science tutors and their fees, and you pick one for a free demo. If no suitable tutor can come at that hour, we suggest an online or part-online plan.

Why does a West Bengal board student in Durgapur study two science subjects in Class 9?

A West Bengal board student studies two sciences in Class 9 because the board's routine lists Physical Science and Environment and Life Science and Environment as separate subjects. Each is written on its own day of Madhyamik. Physical Science brings numericals and diagrams; Life Science brings descriptive answers and labelled drawings, so a tutor should plan them separately.

Should a Bengali-medium science student in Durgapur practise answers in Bengali?

Yes, a Bengali-medium science student should practise written answers in Bengali, using the terms printed in the board's textbooks. A tutor may explain a hard idea in Hindi or English if that helps the child understand. The written practice, though, should match the language of the exam, so marks are not lost to unfamiliar wording.

Can one tutor teach both physical science and life science in Durgapur?

One tutor can teach both sciences up to Class 8, and many still do so in Classes 9 and 10. Some Durgapur families instead take two subject tutors from Class 9: one for maths and physical science, another for life science or languages. Choose by the gap your child has, and tell us which subject worries you most.

Which CBSE Class 10 science units carry the most marks for a Durgapur student?

For a Durgapur student on CBSE, Chemical Substances and World of Living carry the most science marks, 25 each out of the 80 on the board paper. Effects of Current brings 13, Natural Phenomena 12 and Our Environment 5. The school adds 20 internal marks from periodic tests, multiple assessment, the portfolio and subject enrichment.

Which parts of CBSE Class 10 science does a Durgapur school assess itself?

In 2026-27, the school rather than the board assesses evolution, the periodic arrangement of elements, and electromagnetic induction with the generator and motor. These topics still deserve proper teaching because each returns in Class 11. Board questions also draw on 14 listed experiments, so a tidy practical file helps with revision.

Why should a CBSE Class 9 student in Durgapur avoid an older sibling's science notes?

Older science notes follow the previous NCERT book, while CBSE's 2026-27 Class 9 course uses the newer book called Exploration. Its units carry 27 marks for matter, 25 for the living world, 23 for motion, force, work and sound, and 5 for the Earth as a system. A tutor should plan from the new chapters.

How is ICSE science examined for a Class 10 student in Durgapur?

An ICSE Class 10 student in Durgapur sits three separate science papers, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, each with internal marks attached. Schools pick their own textbooks within the CISCE syllabus, so lessons should follow those books and the council's specimen papers. Teachers with ICSE experience can take longer to find, so an online tutor may widen the choice.

Which science habits should a Durgapur child have before the Class 10 exam?

Before Class 10 exams, a Durgapur child should draw ray diagrams with arrowheads, use standard circuit symbols and balance every equation. Body-system diagrams need neat, correctly spelt labels, and genetic crosses should be written step by step. In the free demo, see whether the tutor brings up these habits while teaching the current chapter.
