Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Chemistry switches gears constantly: calculations one evening, organic reaction chains the next, inorganic trends after that. For a senior student in Durgapur the exams switch gears too. The Higher Secondary council tests chemistry first through a multiple-choice semester and then through a written one, and a CBSE or ISC student may be preparing for NEET or JEE at the same time. A tutor at home turns this into one plan: what was covered this week, whether it stuck, and how each exam wants it written. Ask NXTutors and you get a shortlist of two or three chemistry tutors for your board and area, fees listed beside each name. You meet the one you prefer at a free demo.

| Exam | Shape of the chemistry | The skill it rewards |
|---|---|---|
| WBCHSE Higher Secondary (Classes 11 and 12) | Each year, 70 theory marks: half from one-mark multiple choice, half from written answers; the practical is passed separately | Speed and exactness first, then full equations with reasons |
| CBSE Class 12, subject 043 | Seventy theory marks across 33 questions, all compulsory, plus a practical worth 30 | Reasoned answers, balanced equations, tidy numericals |
| NEET (UG), as set in 2026 | A quarter of a 180-question paper: 45 questions and 180 marks, on paper | Word-perfect recall of the NCERT text |
| JEE Main 2026, Paper 1 | Twenty-five questions, five of which want a numerical value instead of an option | Mechanisms and multi-step physical chemistry |
NTA's two tests both scored +4 for a correct answer and −1 for a wrong one in 2026, and NTA re-publishes the pattern every year, so check before planning. To set priorities, read our posts on NEET chemistry chapters that matter and JEE chemistry by branch; matching for entrance is explained on our NEET chemistry tutor and NEET home tutors in Durgapur pages.
Under the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education, a science student picks three compulsory electives from Set I, and chemistry is one of them, often beside physics and either mathematics or biological science. Class 11 is examined in Semesters I and II, both conducted by the school; Class 12 in Semesters III and IV, held by the council at examination centres. The first semester of each year is entirely multiple choice and the second is written. Chemistry carries 70 theory marks a year, divided equally between them.
This page does not list which chemistry chapters belong to which semester; the council's question pattern on wbchse.wb.gov.in sets that out. For the course as a whole, see our West Bengal board tutors in Durgapur page.
Because CBSE prints a mark beside every chapter, a tutor can spend lesson time in proportion to what each chapter is worth. For 2026-27 the design is unchanged and the ten theory chapters add up like this:
| Branch | Marks per chapter | Where practice goes |
|---|---|---|
| Physical: 23 in all | 9 for electrochemistry; 7 each for chemical kinetics and solutions | Every numerical carried with its units; rate laws; half-life |
| Inorganic: 14 in all | 7 each for coordination compounds and for the d- and f-block elements | A reason behind each trend; IUPAC names; isomerism |
| Organic: 33 in all | 8 for carbonyl compounds and carboxylic acids; 7 for biomolecules; 6 each for amines, for alcohols with phenols and ethers, and for haloalkanes with haloarenes | Conversions as written chains, named reactions, tests that tell compounds apart |
Questions are spread over five sections, a few with internal choice, and the paper allows neither a calculator nor log tables. About 40% of the marks are for recall and understanding; the remainder ask the student to apply, analyse or evaluate. Chapter-level help is in our Class 12 organic and inorganic chemistry guide, and the Class 12 chemistry tutor page shows how we plan the board year.
The 2026-27 Class 12 course no longer contains the solid state or the p-block chapter on Groups 15 to 18. Four further topics remain on the syllabus but are left to school assessment, so the board paper never asks about them: polymers, surface chemistry, chemistry in everyday life, and how elements are isolated.
Students aiming at NEET or JEE should not take that list as permission to skip. NTA issues entrance syllabi of its own, and a topic missing from the board course, such as those p-block groups, may still be examined there. Keep the CBSE list for board revision and check the official entrance syllabus before deleting anything from the plan.
The home lesson is most useful a step behind the classroom, consolidating what school or coaching taught that week. Many students settle into this pattern:
For inorganic chapters, a five-question quiz from the textbook, with "why?" after each answer, is hard to beat. The multiple-choice semester and NEET both reward the textbook's precise wording.
Yes, for a good part of them. CBSE's 30 practical marks break down as 8 for volumetric analysis, 8 for salt analysis, 6 for an experiment taken from the theory syllabus, 4 for the project, and 4 for the record and viva together. The 2026-27 titration uses potassium permanganate against either oxalic acid or Mohr's salt, and every student must weigh out and prepare the standard solution personally. On the Higher Secondary course, remember that the school examines the practical and that it is passed on its own.
At the kitchen table a tutor can still practise the molarity working for a weighed sample, the layout of burette readings, the sequence of tests in salt analysis from the first observations to the confirmatory step, a project sized to what the student can really do, and the viva questions examiners like, such as why permanganate acts as its own indicator.
Clear directions keep evening lessons on time. Tutors are listed by locality on our Durgapur home tutors page.
Close to the test season, switching one weekly visit to online keeps revision on schedule if travel becomes difficult. More local advice is on the zone pages for Benachity and Bhiringi and Fuljhore, Mamra and Palashdiha.
Durgapur may have only a handful of tutors for these courses, so say which one in your first message. An online specialist for the syllabus, with a local tutor checking written work, is often the practical answer.
It is the ideal time. Moles, equilibrium and the opening organic chapters are the foundation for solutions, electrochemistry and every Class 12 conversion, and weak foundations show up a year later in both board and entrance marks. On the council's course, Class 11 already brings a multiple-choice and a written semester, so good habits start paying at once. Read about our Class 11 chemistry tutors, or the national chemistry home tutor guide.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Rates are set by each tutor. Useful questions for the shortlist: which exam have you taught for this year, how would you share time between the board paper and an entrance test, and could an online lesson replace a visit when the week is full? Fees are visible before any demo; the Durgapur home tuition fees guide adds more.
Tell us the class and board, the exam your child is working towards, which branch of chemistry costs the most marks, the days already taken by other classes, your neighbourhood and a landmark, and the free evenings. You receive two or three chemistry tutors, each with a fee, and choose one to meet at a free demo. A mismatch just means another demo with the next tutor, and a later switch is also free. If nobody suitable can come to you, we propose online or part-online lessons. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after the ID check is complete (how the ID check works). In Durgapur, our physics and biology pages cover the neighbouring subjects, and our chemistry tutors in Kolkata page serves families elsewhere in West Bengal.

The council gives chemistry 70 theory marks in each of Classes 11 and 12, split evenly between a multiple-choice semester and a written semester. Semesters I and II are run by the school, III and IV by the council. Practical and project work is examined at school and must be passed separately from theory.
No, the council allows no calculator in any Higher Secondary semester examination, practicals included. Durgapur students should therefore practise molarity, equilibrium and electrochemistry numericals with clean hand arithmetic from Class 11. A tutor can set short timed sums each week so the working becomes quick and accurate without a calculator.
Organic chemistry carries the most CBSE Class 12 marks, 33 of the 70 in theory, led by aldehydes, ketones and carboxylic acids at 8. Physical chemistry brings 23, with electrochemistry at 9, and inorganic chemistry 14. Conversion chains, named reactions and distinguishing tests deserve weekly practice for the organic share.
A NEET or JEE student should not skip removed topics without checking the entrance syllabus first. CBSE has dropped the solid state and the p-block Groups 15 to 18 from the 2026-27 board course, but NTA publishes entrance syllabi separately. Use the board list only for board revision, and confirm on the official entrance syllabus.
Polymers, surface chemistry, chemistry in everyday life and the isolation of elements remain in the CBSE Class 12 syllabus but are assessed only by the school. They never appear on the board paper. A tutor can cover them briefly for school tests, and check whether an entrance syllabus still includes any of them.
The 30-mark CBSE chemistry practical gives 16 marks to volumetric and salt analysis, 8 each. An experiment from the theory syllabus adds 6, the project 4, and the record and viva 4 together. In the titration, each student weighs and makes up the standard solution alone, so the molarity calculation is worth rehearsing at home.
A weekly chemistry lesson at home should follow the chapter school or coaching covered that week. Start with closed-book recall, then one numerical solved slowly, then the organic reaction map redrawn from memory. Finish with two written give-reasons answers corrected on the spot, so board writing keeps pace with objective practice.
Class 11 is the right time because the mole concept, equilibrium and early organic chapters return throughout Class 12. Gaps there cost marks later on the board paper and in entrance tests. On the Higher Secondary course, Class 11 also brings the first multiple-choice and written semesters, so good habits pay off early.
