What home tuition costs in Durgapur

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.

Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

ICSE and ISC home tutors in Durgapur: written answers, three sciences and the Class 11 choice

ICSE families in Durgapur share a city with two other systems: the West Bengal board's Madhyamik and Higher Secondary, and CBSE. That matters for tuition in a practical way. A tutor used only to the state syllabus may miss the CISCE's habits: long answers in English, three separate science papers in Class 10, project and practical work that carries real marks. Look for a tutor who has marked to that standard. Below we set out the shape of the CISCE route, the points where a home tutor moves marks, how to weigh ISC against Higher Secondary or CBSE after Class 10, and how tutors reach six parts of the city. The ICSE maths advice is from Abhinandan Tiwary, the science advice from Aaditya Kashyap, and the ISC maths notes from Ajay Vatsyayan.

ICSE among Durgapur's three school systems

We do not publish how many Durgapur children follow each board, because there are no reliable figures. The contrasts are what a parent needs. A Madhyamik student sits separate papers in History, Geography, Mathematics, Physical Science and Life Science, one a day, after two language papers, and often studies in Bengali. A CBSE student works from NCERT books and a paper built around case-based questions. An ICSE student writes long answers in English across almost every subject, takes physics, chemistry and biology as three papers, and in Class 10 earns a share of marks through internal work. Once each exam season is over, the CISCE releases an Analysis of Pupil Performance that shows where candidates dropped marks; a tutor who reads it marks to the council's own standard.

How the ICSE Class 10 subjects are grouped

ICSE subject groups and their exam to internal split
GroupContentsSplit
Group I (taken by all)English; a second language; History, Civics and Geography80 exam, 20 internal
Group II, two or three subjectsA choice that can include Mathematics, Science, Economics, Commercial Studies or a further language, among others80 exam, 20 internal
Group III, one subjectAn applied subject, such as Computer Applications, Art or Physical Education50 exam, 50 internal

Half of the Group III mark comes from coursework, so steady monthly progress on projects is worth more than a late burst. A tutor who keeps a dated list of every assignment protects marks that are easy to lose.

Mathematics and the three science papers

In ICSE Mathematics there is one 80-mark paper, and 20 more marks come from at least two assignments that both a school teacher and an outside examiner assess. Its content mixes commercial topics such as banking and shares with algebra, geometry, trigonometry and statistics. Abhinandan's rule is that every stage of working must be on the page; a right answer reached by invisible steps still loses marks.

Physics, Chemistry and Biology are separate 80-mark papers, each with 20 marks of internal practical work. Aaditya's point is that strength in one gives no cover in the others. Ask early whether a single tutor can carry all three, or whether the weakest science needs its own specialist. The council's specimen papers and its pupil performance analysis together show the standard examiners expect.

Writing is half the subject

In ICSE history, geography, biology and English, marks depend on how an answer is built: a clear first sentence, the right terms, a labelled diagram where it helps, and nothing padded. Children who think in Bengali or Hindi at home can know the content well and still write thin answers. A good tutor sets one timed long answer in every session, marks it line by line, and has the student rewrite it once. Revision should run in rounds from Class 9, returning to older chapters every few weeks, because Class 9 content comes back in the Class 10 papers. See English tutors in Durgapur for set texts and composition.

ISC in Classes 11 and 12: the rules that shape tuition

  • Load: English for everyone, plus three to five electives, with at most six subjects.
  • Early lock: once a date in the Class 11 registration year passes, subjects cannot change, and nothing can be taken up in Class 12 that was not studied in Class 11.
  • Promotion: 35 per cent in four subjects including English, and 75 per cent attendance.
  • Practicals: required in every subject that includes them. Physics and Engineering Science are not allowed together.
  • Result: grades 1 to 9; a pass certificate needs four subjects including English, plus Socially Useful Productive Work and Community Service.

Ajay's note on ISC Mathematics: in Class 11 and again in Class 12 the subject is 80 marks of theory and 20 of project, and a project begun in the first term is far easier than one put together in the last month. More is on our ISC maths tutor page and in the guide to ICSE and ISC maths.

After Class 10: ISC, Higher Secondary or CBSE

A Durgapur student finishing ICSE usually has three options. Staying with ISC keeps the same writing style and adds deeper electives with practical and project work. Moving to the West Bengal Higher Secondary course is possible, since the Council lists the CISCE among the boards it accepts, but the testing is very different: four semesters, two of them entirely multiple choice, no calculator in any semester paper, and a pass that needs five subjects with theory and practical cleared separately. Moving to CBSE brings NCERT books and shorter, textbook-close answers.

Whichever path you choose, decide before Class 11 begins, because ISC choices lock early. Use the weeks after the Class 10 exams to read the first chapters of the new course and try a few of its questions. Our West Bengal board tutors in Durgapur page explains the semesters, the CBSE home tutors in Durgapur page covers that board, and our article on picking a board and stream may settle the question. ISC science students preparing for entrance tests can see JEE and NEET home tutors in Durgapur; the tutor should map ISC chapters against NCERT ones early in Class 11.

How ICSE tutors reach six Durgapur localities

  • Bidhannagar: a planned area with a grid of wide roads, so the block or road and the house number bring a tutor straight to the door.
  • Saptarshi Park: houses and flats beside Shankarpur; for a flat, pass the tutor's name to the guard before the first visit.
  • Shankarpur: people treat Shankarpur and Shankarpur West as two parts, so say which one, then add a shop or crossing a stranger could spot.
  • Muchipara: buses from most of the city pass this junction, which widens the choice of ISC elective specialists who can come.
  • Shyampur: a few local roads and lanes beside Sagarbhanga; if no tutor lives inside the area, one from a neighbouring area can come.
  • Bamunara: on National Highway 19 at the city's edge; say which side of the highway you live on, and keep an online tutor in mind for an elective.

Specialists in single ISC electives are scarcer than general tutors in any city, so a common pattern is a nearby tutor for maths and the sciences with online lessons added for one elective or for literature. The Bidhannagar and Shankarpur and Muchipara, Sagarbhanga and Arra zone pages and the Durgapur home tuition guide have more local advice.

Home or online for an ICSE student?

Until Class 10, maths and the three sciences are usually worth a tutor in person, since examiners judge each line of working. Online suits an ISC elective or literature, where the specialist may well live in another city, for short checks before exams, and for families at the edge of the city. If maths or science moves online, make sure the tutor can watch the working happen: a phone camera over the notebook, a stylus tablet or a shared board all do the job. Our online tuition in Durgapur page explains how it is arranged.

Checking a tutor against the CISCE standard

  1. Which year's specimen paper and pupil performance analysis does the tutor use?
  2. In maths, are all steps, units and a clear final line demanded?
  3. Can the same person move from a physics numerical to a labelled biology diagram?
  4. When an answer is right but poorly expressed, is the English corrected too?
  5. For ISC, what support will the tutor give on a project or practical file, and how will your child still do the work?

Fees and getting started

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. An ICSE or ISC fee mostly reflects the class, the number of papers you want covered, how close the exams are and the distance the tutor travels. Read the pricing guide and our Durgapur tuition fees post.

ICSE Home Tutor in Durgapur (ICSE & ISC, Classes 6–12): common questions

What does an ICSE or ISC home tutor in Durgapur charge?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. ICSE and ISC tutors in Durgapur set their own fees, and you see each one before the demo.

Why do ICSE students in Durgapur need a tutor who knows the CISCE style?

ICSE marks depend on long written answers in English, three separate science papers and internal work, which differs from the state syllabus. A tutor who has marked to the CISCE standard knows the specimen papers and the council's Analysis of Pupil Performance, and can show where answers lose marks.

How are ICSE Class 10 maths and science papers marked?

In ICSE Mathematics, an 80-mark written paper is joined by 20 internal marks earned through two or more assignments, which a school teacher and an outside examiner both assess. Physics, Chemistry and Biology are separate 80-mark papers, each with 20 marks of internal practical work, so strength in one science does not cover the other two.

Can an ICSE student in Durgapur join West Bengal Higher Secondary after Class 10?

Yes, an ICSE student can join Higher Secondary, because the Council lists the CISCE among the boards it accepts. The testing changes sharply: four semesters, two entirely multiple choice, no calculator in any semester paper, and theory and practical passed separately. Decide before Class 11 starts and use the gap weeks to adjust.

When are ISC subject choices fixed for a Durgapur student?

ISC subjects lock once a date in the Class 11 registration year has passed, and Class 12 can only continue subjects already studied in Class 11. Students take English plus three to five electives, up to six subjects. Choose carefully before term starts, because changing later is not allowed.

How do ICSE tutors reach Bidhannagar, Saptarshi Park or Bamunara?

Tutors reach Bidhannagar easily because its grid roads make the block and house number enough. Saptarshi Park is reached from Shankarpur or Bidhannagar, and the guard should know the tutor's name for a flat. Bamunara is on National Highway 19, so say which side you live on; an online tutor helps for electives.

How can a Bengali-speaking ICSE student write stronger long answers?

A Bengali-speaking ICSE student writes stronger answers by practising one timed long answer every session and rewriting it after marking. The tutor checks the first sentence, the subject terms, any diagram and needless padding. Knowing the content is not enough in history, geography, biology or English if the answer is thin on paper.

Is online tuition a good choice for ISC electives in Durgapur?

Online is often the practical choice for an ISC elective or literature, because single-subject specialists are scarce in any city. A common plan is a nearby tutor for maths and the sciences, with online lessons for that one elective. For online maths or science, the tutor must see the working through a camera or stylus tablet.
