How is Biological Science examined on the Higher Secondary course?

The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education lists Biological Science among the Set I (science) electives, and it also appears as a choice in Set III. A student takes three compulsory electives from a single set. Each class has two semesters: in Class 11 the school conducts Semester I, which is multiple choice, and Semester II, which is written; in Class 12 the council holds Semester III, multiple choice, and Semester IV, written, at examination centres. Biological Science carries 70 theory marks a year, 35 in each semester.

For a biology tutor this has two consequences. Ahead of a multiple-choice semester, the student needs rapid, accurate recall: names of structures, the order of steps in a process, the exact function of a hormone or enzyme. Ahead of a written semester, the same knowledge has to come out as complete answers with labelled diagrams. A good plan keeps both alive all year. How do CBSE biology marks fall across the two senior years?

Each year's CBSE theory paper is out of 70, and the 2026-27 weights make a useful timetable:

Genetics is the largest Class 12 unit and is a skill as much as a body of facts: crosses, pedigrees and probabilities need regular practice from the first week. What does ISC biology expect from a Durgapur student?

CISCE's Class 12 theory paper is worth 70, spread over Reproduction (16), Genetics and Evolution (15), Ecology and Environment (15), Biology and Human Welfare (14) and Biotechnology (10). In the 2026 bulletin, every one of NEET's 180 questions was compulsory and multiple choice, with 720 marks in total. How should a tutor handle biology terms across Bengali, Hindi and English?
