Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

In Class 11, physics suddenly leans on maths, the chapters grow longer, and many Durgapur students are juggling school, an entrance plan and perhaps coaching classes too. What usually goes missing is an hour with one adult who studies the student's working, spots where the chain of reasoning snapped, and returns to that spot until it is mended. That is the work of a home physics tutor. Tell NXTutors the class, the board (the West Bengal Higher Secondary council, CBSE, ISC or an international course), any entrance target and your neighbourhood. We suggest two or three tutors who fit and show each fee first. Your opening lesson with the tutor you pick costs nothing; it is a free demo.
The chapters overlap; the marking does not.
| Paper | How physics is examined | Scoring | Weekly practice |
|---|---|---|---|
| WBCHSE Higher Secondary, each of Classes 11 and 12 | 70 theory marks a year: 35 in a multiple-choice semester and 35 in a written one, plus practical work | Theory and practical passed separately; no calculator | Quick one-mark accuracy, then full written derivations and numericals |
| CBSE Class 12 (subject code 042) | A 70-mark theory paper where all 33 questions must be answered, and a 30-mark practical | Marked on written answers, without a calculator | Derivations, ray and circuit diagrams, case-based questions |
| JEE Main (as set in 2026) | Twenty-five physics questions, five of them needing a numerical value rather than a choice | Four for a correct answer, minus one for a wrong one | Multi-step problems and an error review after each set |
| NEET (UG) (as set in 2026) | Physics is a quarter of the pen-and-paper test: 45 questions, 180 marks | Four for a correct answer, minus one for a wrong one | Precision at NCERT level, and the discipline to skip rather than guess |
Entrance syllabi come from the body that conducts each test, not from a school board, and they may keep topics a board has trimmed; check the current bulletin on nta.ac.in. WBJEE, the state engineering entrance, is set by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board, and our WBJEE tutors in Kolkata page explains it. For national entrance, see JEE and NEET home tutors in Durgapur.
Physics is a Set I (science) elective under the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education. The council examines each class in two semesters: in Class 11, Semesters I and II are run by the school; in Class 12, Semesters III and IV are held by the council at examination centres. Semesters I and III are entirely multiple choice; II and IV are written, with short answers of two and three marks and longer descriptive questions. The usual pattern is a September sitting for the multiple-choice semester and a March sitting for the written one.
| Semester | Marks and format | Chapters | Tutoring focus |
|---|---|---|---|
| III (September) | 35 one-mark multiple-choice questions | Electrostatics; current electricity; magnetic effect of current and magnetism; electromagnetic induction; electromagnetic waves | Field and circuit ideas checked quickly and exactly; units and directions recalled without hesitation |
| IV (March) | 35 marks of short and descriptive written answers | Optics; dual nature of matter and radiation; atoms and nuclei; electronic devices; communication | Ray diagrams with sign conventions, photoelectric graphs, labelled circuit sketches and complete derivations |
Electricity and magnetism must be secure by September at one-mark speed, then optics and modern physics written out in full by March, so a tutor should start with the Semester III chapters while keeping one written question going each week. No calculator is allowed in any semester, so arithmetic with powers of ten and square roots has to be practised by hand. Our West Bengal board tutors in Durgapur page covers the whole Higher Secondary course.
Under the council's rules, practical and project work is examined at the student's own school, before Semester II and before Semester IV, and theory and practical must each be passed on their own. A home tutor can check every record entry and hold a mock viva before the school's practical date.
The 2026-27 sample paper keeps last session's design and gathers the fourteen NCERT chapters into four groups. Electrostatics through to alternating current, the electricity and magnetism block, is worth 33. Next is optics, counted with electromagnetic waves, at 18. Modern physics, meaning dual nature plus atoms and nuclei, brings 12, and the semiconductor chapter 7. That chapter has lost transistors and logic gates, so a guidebook still teaching them belongs to an older syllabus.
The paper runs from Section A to Section E. A opens with sixteen questions of one mark (a dozen multiple-choice, four assertion–reason). B holds five two-mark questions, C seven worth three, D a pair of case studies worth four, and E three long answers worth five. Close to 38% of the total tests straightforward recall. Physical constants are supplied, calculators are banned, and there is one main board sitting in Class 12. The Class 12 physics strategies post lists the derivations that keep returning, and a month-by-month plan for the board year is on our Class 12 physics tutor page.
A good part of it. Of the 30 marks, the two experiments are worth 7 apiece, the viva 5, the record 5, and the activity and investigatory project 3 each. CBSE wants the record to contain eight or more experiments split evenly between the two sections, six or more activities split the same way, and the report of the project. Lab equipment never leaves school, yet a tutor at home can read every entry for its aim, diagram, readings and conclusion, talk through precautions and likely errors, and fire viva questions: why take several readings, and what does the gradient of this graph mean?
Quite a lot, as long as it is not a third lecture on the same chapter. One-to-one time suits three jobs:
For a fuller comparison, read our articles on coaching or a home tutor for JEE and for NEET. Whatever you choose, set the home lesson on a day and hour that no other class can touch.
Ask the tutor to insist on the same four moves in every problem:
Keep one notebook of wrong questions, each with the first attempt, a one-line note of the error and a clean re-solve. Hand it, or a couple of recent test papers, to the tutor at the free demo. Someone good will leaf through it and put a finger on the weak step before explaining anything.
Senior students often get home late, so physics moves to the evening. Browse tutors by locality on our Durgapur home tutors page.
| Neighbourhood | Layout | Address the tutor needs | Tip |
|---|---|---|---|
| A-Zone | Planned township grid with wide roads and numbered quarters, mostly independent houses | Avenue or street name and quarter number as painted on the gate | The regular layout makes a first evening visit simple |
| B-Zone | Township quarters and houses on straight, numbered roads east of A-Zone | Road name, quarter number and which side of B-Zone | Computer Science or Statistics can go online if no home tutor is close |
| Benachity | Older, organically grown area of narrow, winding lanes | Lane name, a shop or crossing, and a phone for the last turn | A voice note with each turn saves the first evening |
| Bhiringi | Unplanned lanes of uneven width beside Benachity | Which side of Bhiringi More, and the lane to take | Send a map pin the evening before |
| Mamra | Houses and flats in east-central Durgapur, near the township roads | For a flat: building name, block and floor | Say where a two-wheeler can stand during the lesson |
| Amarabati Colony | A compact residential colony near Mamra and Fuljhore | Colony name, inner road and house number | Ask the tutor for a short update after each class if both parents work |
The zone pages for City Centre, A-Zone and B-Zone and Benachity and Bhiringi add timing advice.
The sensible starting point is usually Class 11. Mechanics rests on vectors and graphs, and both keep reappearing in every Class 12 chapter. Read about our Class 11 physics tutors, and if the stream is still undecided, our guide to choosing a stream.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fees. Put three questions to each tutor on the list: which exam have you prepared students for this year, what is the latest hour you can come, and could some lessons be online? Fees are on the shortlist before any demo, and our Durgapur home tuition fees guide goes further.
Tell us the class, the board, the main aim (board marks, JEE, WBJEE or NEET), the days other classes run, your neighbourhood with a landmark and the evenings that are still free. Our reply names two or three physics tutors with their fees; you invite one to a free demo. A poor match simply means a demo with the next name, and a change of tutor later is free as well. If no one suitable is free at your hour, we suggest lessons online or a blend of both. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after the ID check is complete (how the ID check works). Our office is in Sector 66, Gurugram, and we teach online all over India. Under the council's science question pattern, Semester III covers electrostatics, current electricity, magnetic effect of current and magnetism, electromagnetic induction and electromagnetic waves. It is a multiple-choice paper of 35 one-mark questions, normally in September. Optics, dual nature, atoms and nuclei, electronic devices and communication are left for the written Semester IV in March.
For the written Semester IV, a Durgapur student should practise complete answers on optics and modern physics, with ray diagrams, sign conventions and labelled circuit sketches. It carries 35 marks of short and descriptive questions. No calculator is allowed, so a tutor should also drill arithmetic with powers of ten and square roots by hand.
Yes, under the council's rules a Higher Secondary student must pass theory and practical separately, so a strong theory score cannot rescue a weak practical. Practical work is examined at the student's own school before Semester II and Semester IV. A home tutor can check record entries, rehearse the reasons behind each step and hold a mock viva.
For a Durgapur student, CBSE Class 12 physics theory carries 70 marks in four groups. Electricity and magnetism bring 33, optics with electromagnetic waves 18, modern physics 12 and semiconductor electronics 7. Transistors and logic gates have left the course, so older notes on them are out of date. The paper has 33 compulsory questions.
The CBSE physics record must hold at least eight experiments, four from each section, at least six activities, three from each, and the investigatory project report. The 30-mark practical gives 14 to two experiments, 5 to the record, 3 to an activity, 3 to the project and 5 to the viva, so the record deserves steady work.
A home physics tutor can help alongside coaching classes by doing what a large room rarely allows. That means clearing problems the student skipped or copied, keeping board-style derivations and practical records moving, and sorting every lost test mark into a concept gap, a slip or a question to leave. Fix the slot so it never clashes.
In the 2026 patterns, JEE Main Paper 1 had 25 physics questions and NEET had 45 of its 180. In JEE Main, 20 had options and 5 needed a numerical answer. Both gave four marks for a right answer and took one for a wrong one. Check the current bulletin on nta.ac.in before planning.
Class 11 is usually the right year for a Durgapur student to start physics tuition, because mechanics leans on vectors and graphs that return throughout Class 12. Starting early also leaves room for the first multiple-choice semester in September. Students moving from IGCSE often need extra work on calculator-free arithmetic.
