Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

In Durgapur, a maths problem often travels through two languages before it reaches the answer sheet, and a home maths tutor checks that every written step survives the trip. Tell NXTutors the class, whose paper your child will write (the West Bengal board for Madhyamik, the Higher Secondary council for Classes 11 and 12, CBSE, CISCE, or an IB or IGCSE school) and the part of the city you live in. You get a shortlist of two or three maths tutors who match, each showing their fee before you speak to them. The opening lesson with the one you choose is a free demo.
Abhinandan Tiwary is responsible for the CBSE and ICSE Class 10 guidance on this page, and Ajay Vatsyayan for ISC, IB and IGCSE maths; the West Bengal material comes from the board's and council's own websites. The last column is a fair question for any tutor's first call.
| Stage and course | Set by | Shape of the marks | Ask the tutor |
|---|---|---|---|
| Classes 9 and 10, ending in Madhyamik | West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) | School summatives and internal formative evaluation, then the Madhyamik paper | Do you teach from the Ganit Prakash books, in my child's medium? |
| Higher Secondary, Classes 11 and 12 | West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) | 80 theory marks a year: 40 in a multiple-choice semester, 40 in a written one | How will you prepare my child for both kinds of semester? |
| CBSE Class 10 (Standard or Basic level) | Central Board of Secondary Education | Board paper out of 80; internal assessment out of 20 | Looking at my child's work, which level would you advise? |
| CBSE Class 12 mathematics | Central Board of Secondary Education | Every one of the 38 questions is compulsory; 80 written, 20 internal | In which month do we reach calculus? |
| ICSE (Class 10), ISC (Class 12) | Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations | 80 on paper; 20 from internal assessment or projects | Are you using the syllabus for my child's exam year? |
| IB Diploma maths, Cambridge IGCSE maths | International Baccalaureate; Cambridge International | IB papers plus an exploration; IGCSE entered at Core or Extended | When did you last teach this exact course or tier? |
The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education conducts the Madhyamik Pariksha, the secondary examination at the end of Class 10. Durgapur's district, Paschim Burdwan, is served by the board's Burdwan Regional Council Office. In Classes 9 and 10, mathematics is taught from the board's Ganit Prakash books, so the most useful tutor works from those same pages, not a guidebook written for another syllabus.
Three habits matter most:
Many schools also hold a test examination before Madhyamik; treat it as a full rehearsal, timed and marked. Our West Bengal board tutors in Durgapur page explains the other Madhyamik subjects, and the board's own site, wbbse.wb.gov.in, carries the current routine.
The board issues its academic calendar for a calendar year, not from April as CBSE and CISCE schools do. Books are meant to reach students by January, and three summative evaluations normally fall in the first weeks of April, August and December. Classes 9 and 10 also have an internal formative evaluation that runs through the year. For a maths tutor, that gives a ready plan:
The 2026-27 board paper is out of 80 and draws on 14 NCERT chapters grouped into seven units, with the same design as last session. The heaviest unit is algebra at 20 marks (polynomials, pairs of linear equations, quadratic equations and APs). Next come geometry at 15 and trigonometry, heights and distances included, at 12. Statistics with probability is worth 11 and mensuration 10, while real numbers and coordinate geometry bring 6 apiece.
Five lettered sections make up the paper. A is twenty one-mark items (eighteen with options, two of the assertion–reason type); B has five worth two marks; C has six worth three; D has four worth five; and E closes with three four-mark case studies. No calculator may be used, and π means 22/7 unless a question gives another value. The two levels cover identical chapters but not identical demands. Roughly 54% of the Standard paper rewards remembering and understanding, while in Basic that share is close to 75%, so any child who might want mathematics in Class 11 is better off on Standard. A further, optional Class 10 sitting now lets students try to raise up to three subjects, and maths may be one; rely on cbse.gov.in alone for when it runs. See the Class 10 maths preparation guide, the board-year planner, our Class 10 maths tutor page and CBSE home tutors in Durgapur.
Mathematics is a Set I (science) elective on the council's Higher Secondary course, and Set II commerce students have a mathematics option too. There are four semesters. Class 11 has Semesters I and II, which the school conducts; Class 12 has Semesters III and IV, which the council holds at examination centres. Semesters I and III are entirely multiple choice, while II and IV use answer scripts with short and descriptive questions. In the council's normal schedule the multiple-choice papers fall in September and the written ones in March.
| Semester | Format and marks | Chapters | What a tutor should drill |
|---|---|---|---|
| Semester III | 40 one-mark multiple-choice questions | Relations and functions; inverse trigonometry; matrices and determinants; continuity and differentiability; applications of derivatives; probability | Speed with accuracy, elimination of wrong options, short mental routes |
| Semester IV | 40 marks of 2-mark short answers and 3- or 4-mark descriptive questions | Vectors; three-dimensional geometry; integrals and their applications; differential equations; linear programming | Full written working, neat diagrams for areas, every constant of integration shown |
September calls for short timed sets of one-mark questions; March calls for long answers written out in full. No calculator is allowed in any semester. Students who also want engineering entrance face two more papers. In JEE Main 2026, maths in Paper 1 meant twenty option-based questions and five with a numerical answer, scored +4 when correct and −1 when wrong (check jeemain.nta.nic.in for the next pattern). The other is WBJEE, set by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board. Our JEE home tutors in Durgapur page, the WBJEE tutors in Kolkata page and the coaching or home tutor for JEE article help you plan.
On CBSE, Class 12 is one board paper with no optional questions to skip: all 38 count towards 80, and the calculus unit is worth 35 of them. Read the calculus and algebra guide for Class 12, and see our Class 12 maths tutor page for that board year.
The council lists CBSE, CISCE and IGCSE among the boards it treats as equivalent, so a move into Higher Secondary in Class 11 is possible; the main adjustment is a full multiple-choice semester and no calculator. Teachers for international courses can be scarce in Durgapur, so mention the course on day one; pairing an online specialist with a nearby tutor who marks practice often works. Our ICSE and ISC tutors in Durgapur page has more.
Planned township grids and older lanes need different directions. Compare tutors by locality on our Durgapur home tutors page.
| Neighbourhood | Setting | Finding the home | Settle before the first lesson |
|---|---|---|---|
| City Centre | The middle of the city, with the municipal corporation's office and one of the three bus termini; homes in lanes behind the main roads | Block or road name, house or flat number and a shop sign nearby | A slot straight after school, before the evening errands begin |
| A-Zone | A planned township zone in the north-west, laid out on a grid of wide roads with numbered quarters | The avenue name and quarter number exactly as painted on the gate | An early-evening hour, after the child has eaten and rested |
| Benachity | An older, organically grown part of the west with narrow winding lanes | Lane name, a shop or crossing, and a phone the tutor can ring on the way | Which language the child is most at ease in for maths: Bengali, Hindi or English |
| Dhandabag | The western edge, on the road out towards Ichhapur and Ukhra; homes spread more widely | The road you live off, the nearest shop and a clear house number | Whether a home visit plus an online session suits, since fewer tutors live close by |
| Fuljhore | East of City Centre, grown house by house, with narrow inner roads and lanes that look alike | The lane or para name, a shop and the house number; a voice note helps | Whether answers will be practised in Bengali or English, so the medium never wobbles near the exam |
| Amarabati Colony | A compact colony in east-central Durgapur, near Mamra and Fuljhore | Colony name, inner road and house number usually bring the tutor to the gate | A short revision of Class 8 algebra and geometry in the first fortnight of Class 9 |
The zone pages for City Centre, A-Zone and B-Zone, Benachity and Bhiringi and Fuljhore, Mamra and Palashdiha add local detail, and every zone of the city is described in our Durgapur home tuition guide.
Put this week's school chapter and the latest marked test in front of the tutor, and watch for four things:
Not convinced? A different tutor from your shortlist gives the next demo, changing tutor later is free, and our checklist for demo classes suggests more to ask.
A tutor at your table sees a slip the moment the pen makes it, which matters for young children, geometry and Bengali-medium answers. A screen works well when the right specialist lives on the far side of Durgapur, when the course is ISC or IB, or when home is at the edge of the city, as in Dhandabag. A common pattern is one visit and one online lesson a week. To weigh them up, read home tutor or online tutor and our online tuition in Durgapur page.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor sets their own fee. Before you decide, find out from each tutor on the shortlist which syllabus they have been teaching this year, how often they would come, and whether a summative week could use a shorter online lesson instead. All fees are visible before the demo, and the Durgapur home tuition fees guide explains what else to ask.
Send us the class and the exact course (Madhyamik, Higher Secondary, CBSE at Standard or Basic, ICSE, ISC, IB or IGCSE). Add the neighbourhood and a landmark, the hours your child is free after school, a rough budget, and the medium: Bengali, Hindi or English. Back comes a list of two or three maths tutors, fees included, and you invite one to a free demo; if nobody suitable can reach you, we propose online lessons or a mix. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after the ID check is complete (how the ID check works). Our office is in Sector 66, Gurugram, and online lessons reach every state; the national maths home tutor page and our maths tutors in Kolkata page show how we work elsewhere in West Bengal. For science subjects in Durgapur, see physics and science.

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Durgapur maths tutors set their own fees. Ask each one which board they taught recently, how many sessions a week they suggest, and whether an online session can replace a visit in summative weeks.
NXTutors needs the class, the full course name, your neighbourhood with a landmark, free times around school, a fee range and the medium your child writes in. We then send two or three matched maths tutors with each fee shown before the first class. The first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free.
A Madhyamik maths tutor in Durgapur should teach from the Ganit Prakash books that the West Bengal board names for Classes 9 and 10. Working from the same pages as the school keeps chapter order and terms aligned. A Bengali-medium student should practise writing every step with the textbook's Bengali terms, even when ideas are explained in Hindi or English.
Madhyamik maths revision should be finished early because the board's 2027 routine places mathematics after the two languages, History and Geography, with one subject a day. There is little room to revise maths between papers. A tutor should plan timed full papers through December and January, and treat the school's test examination as a proper rehearsal.
The West Bengal board runs its academic year by the calendar, so a Durgapur maths tutor should plan from January rather than April. Books are meant to arrive by January, and three summative evaluations normally fall in the first weeks of April, August and December. Each summative makes a natural checkpoint, with mixed practice in the fortnight before it.
For a Durgapur Class 12 student, Higher Secondary maths has a multiple-choice Semester III and a written Semester IV, each worth 40 theory marks. Functions, matrices, calculus of derivatives and probability go to the multiple-choice paper; vectors, 3D geometry, integrals, differential equations and linear programming are written. No calculator is allowed, so mental and written arithmetic both need practice.
Yes, a Durgapur student can move from CBSE, ICSE or IGCSE into Higher Secondary, because the council lists those boards as equivalent for entry. The main change is testing style. Semester I is entirely multiple choice and no calculator is allowed, so a tutor should spend the first months of Class 11 on speed, accuracy and written arithmetic.
For Durgapur students in 2026-27, algebra carries the most CBSE Class 10 maths marks, 20 of the 80 on the board paper. Geometry follows with 15, trigonometry 12, statistics and probability 11, mensuration 10, and real numbers and coordinate geometry 6 each. Standard suits a child who may take maths in Class 11; Basic covers the same chapters at less depth.
Online maths tuition often works well at the edge of Durgapur, such as Dhandabag, where fewer home tutors live close by. Many families combine one home visit for the main subject with one online session. Set up a quiet table, a charged device and a notebook the tutor can see on camera, and test the connection during the demo.
In a maths demo, a Durgapur parent should watch whether the tutor reads old answers before teaching anything new. Good tutors name each mistake by type, lay out working the way your child's board expects and leave a clear plan for the next three topics. If the fit is wrong, the next tutor on your shortlist takes a demo.
Tell us the class, board and your area. We share two or three matched tutors, and the first class is a free demo.
