A science student in Durgapur who wants to sit JEE is usually juggling three calendars at once: the school's, the board's and the entrance exam's. For a student on the West Bengal Higher Secondary course, the board calendar is now built from four semesters, two of them multiple choice, which changes when each chapter has to be ready. The National Testing Agency runs JEE (Main). Its 2026 bulletin described Paper 1 as an online paper covering mathematics, physics and chemistry. Every subject carried 25 questions; twenty were multiple-choice and five needed a numerical value typed in, so the paper carried 75 questions and 300 marks. A right answer earned four marks and a wrong one lost one, in both sections. There were two sessions, the better score was the one used, and the paper was offered in 13 languages. JEE (Advanced), conducted by the organising institutes, came next for those who qualified through Main under its brochure's rules; its 2026 brochure listed two compulsory papers in English and Hindi and allowed no more than two attempts, in consecutive years.

The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education splits Class 11 into Semesters I and II and Class 12 into Semesters III and IV. According to the Council's examination FAQ, Semesters I and III are multiple-choice papers, normally held in September, and Semesters II and IV are written papers, normally in March. The school conducts the Class 11 semesters; the Council holds the Class 12 ones at examination centres. No calculator is allowed in any semester paper or in the practicals.
The Council's science question pattern shows which chapters land in the September multiple-choice papers. For a JEE student that list matters, because those chapters must be ready early:

The overlap with JEE is useful. Mechanics and early calculus in Class 11, and electricity and magnetism in Class 12, are entrance staples, and the September papers reward exactly the quick, accurate objective work that JEE needs. The written semesters then ask for the opposite habit: full steps, diagrams and units in long answers. A good tutor plans the year in two halves to match, objective drills before September, written practice before March, with entrance problems running through both. The West Bengal board's 2026 academic calendar sets the school day in its schools from about twenty to eleven in the morning until half past four, six days a week, and some buildings run a morning and a day shift. That leaves two natural windows for tuition: early morning before a day-shift school, and the evening once the student is home and has eaten. Weekends add a longer morning for a full practice paper. Put the school timetable, any class timetable and the September and March semester months on one sheet before you send a request, and look for the slot that never moves.
Durgapur students also study in CBSE and CISCE schools. CBSE uses NCERT books, so its content sits close to the entrance syllabus; the usual gap is written board answers, which need full steps after months of objective practice. Physics problems go wrong at the set-up, so a tutor beside the student, watching which law is chosen and how the diagram is drawn, is hard to beat. Maths needs long working on paper, which also suits a home session, though going over a completed test paper is easy on a shared screen. The jump from Madhyamik or Class 10 is steepest in mechanics and the first calculus chapters, and for HS students those chapters are examined by multiple choice in the first September. Start a notebook of mistakes early and keep it for two years.
Semester III, the practicals, Semester IV and the entrance sessions all fall inside one school year. Ask the tutor to mark those months on a calendar in the first week, so the written board work keeps its share of the weeks.

Yes, CBSE and ISC students in Durgapur prepare for JEE with home tutors, though the work differs slightly.
