Not sure which tutor fits? Tell us the class, board and your sector: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.
| Classes a week | Classes a month | At ₹800 an hour | At ₹2,500 an hour |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 8 | ₹6,400 a month | ₹20,000 a month |
| 3 | 12 | ₹9,600 a month | ₹30,000 a month |
In a coaching batch, one teacher's hour is shared by many students, so each family pays for a part of it. At home the whole hour is your child's: the pace, the questions and the homework check follow one student, and the tutor's travel to your home is part of the working day. A small group of two or three children from the same society usually costs less per child, with less individual attention.

Durgapur is really two kinds of city sharing one name. Part of it was drawn on paper first: the township zones such as A-Zone and B-Zone, and Bidhannagar in the south-east, have straight roads, clear junctions and house numbers that make sense to a stranger. The rest grew the older way, lane by lane, in places like Benachity, Bhiringi, Fuljhore, Palashdiha and Sagarbhanga, which is counted among the earliest settled parts of the city. City Centre, with the municipal corporation's office, holds the middle, and Muchipara, where State Highway 9 begins, gathers the south. For a parent looking for a tutor, that split decides how easily a stranger finds your door and how far a tutor will ride.
You send one request. In it, write the class, the board and the medium of the school, the subjects or chapters that worry you, your locality with a lane, quarter or block name, the hours your child is free once school and homework are done, and whether you want the tutor to visit, to teach online, or a mix. A rough monthly budget keeps the suggestions sensible. We come back with two or three matched tutors. Each one's fee sits on the profile, so you know it before anyone visits, and the first lesson with the tutor you pick is a free demo. In Durgapur, four details shape that shortlist more than the rest:
Treat the demo as an ordinary lesson on this week's chapter. If it does not suit, another name from the shortlist takes a turn, and changing tutor later is free as well.
Suggestions for Durgapur are drawn from our pool of tutor profiles, and 18 Durgapur localities have a page of their own. On each one the order of tutors never changes: people who live in that locality, then people willing to travel there, then the rest of the zone, then Durgapur as a whole, then online tutors. We plan home visits around five zones, running from the middle of the city out to the south: City Centre, A-Zone and B-Zone, Benachity and Bhiringi, Fuljhore, Mamra and Palashdiha, Bidhannagar and Shankarpur and Muchipara, Sagarbhanga and Arra. The grouping is our own, made for tutor travel; it does not follow the corporation's boroughs or wards.
City Centre is the hub that most Durgapur roads seem to return to. The municipal corporation has its office here, one of the city's three bus termini stands here, and the main roads are lined with shops and offices while homes sit in blocks and lanes behind them. A-Zone lies to the north-west, a planned township zone on a grid of wide roads with numbered quarters, where independent houses make up most of the homes on sale. B-Zone sits east of it in the same planned belt, with Bijra on its far side, and its quarters and houses line straight, numbered roads.
City buses on the A-Zone and B-Zone routes run between Durgapur Railway Station and Prantika by way of City Centre. For a first visit in the townships, give the road or avenue name and the quarter number exactly as it is painted on the gate. In City Centre, add the block and one shop or office the tutor can spot from the main road. Evenings in these homes are often shared with sports or music, so short weekday lessons plus a longer weekend session can work well.
Benachity is one of the older parts of west Durgapur, grown without a fixed plan, so its lanes wind between houses, shops and small buildings. Bhiringi, also written Bhiringee, sits right beside it, and most people there give directions from Bhiringi More, the crossing everyone knows. Small colonies, each called a pally, fill the gaps between the two. Out at the western edge, Dhandabag lies on the road that heads on towards Ichhapur and Ukhra, with Gopalmath and the Kurulia Dangal Road side close by.
City bus route 8A reaches Benachity, auto-rickshaws link it with City Centre, and the Ichhapur and Ukhra buses pass through Dhandabag. Even so, a house number on its own rarely gets a new tutor to your door in this zone. Send a map pin the evening before, or a short voice note naming each turn from the main road, and say which side of Bhiringi More you live on. Homes here speak Bengali, Hindi or both, so mention the language your child is most at ease in. At the western edge, a home tutor for the main subject plus online lessons for the rest is a sensible mix.
Fuljhore is a busy residential area east of City Centre that filled in house by house, with narrow inner roads and lanes that can look alike. Mamra is a little closer to the township roads, and its homes range from houses to flats in newer buildings. Amarabati Colony is a compact colony beside Mamra and Fuljhore, easy to describe once the colony name, the lane inside it and the house number are given. Palashdiha lies near the Grand Trunk Road, with Malandighi and City Centre not far off, and new houses keep filling its gaps.
City bus route 8B passes through Fuljhore, another city route serves Mamra, and the four areas sit close enough that one tutor can often teach in two of them on the same afternoon. The address you send depends on the home: lane, para and house number for a house, and building, block and floor for a flat, with a word on where a two-wheeler can stand. Many children in this belt study in Bengali-medium schools on the West Bengal board, with English-medium CBSE and ICSE students in the same streets, so ask for a tutor who knows your child's own books.
Bidhannagar, often written Bidhan Nagar, is one of Durgapur's planned areas, set out on a grid with wide roads and proper junctions. It should not be confused with Bidhannagar in Kolkata, the Salt Lake area where the Higher Secondary council has its main office. Shankarpur lies beside it, and people speak of Shankarpur and Shankarpur West as two parts, so say which one is yours. Saptarshi Park, reached by Saptarshi Park Road, is a neighbourhood of houses and flats next to both.
Bus route 8B runs through Bidhannagar, and auto-rickshaws connect it with City Centre and the railway station, which helps tutors coming in from other zones. Inside Bidhannagar, the block or road and the house number lead straight to the door. For a flat in Saptarshi Park or Shankarpur, send the building, block and floor, and pass the tutor's name to whoever keeps the gate before the first visit.
Muchipara is a busy junction in south Durgapur, where State Highway 9 begins and buses for most of the city pass through. Sagarbhanga, close by, traces its roots to a colony founded in the late eighteenth century, long before the townships, and its old lanes now sit beside newer houses. Shyampur is a smaller residential area between Sagarbhanga, Muchipara and Malandighi. Just beyond the corporation's area, Arra, whose addresses often read Arrah Kalinagar, and Bamunara, on National Highway 19, the Grand Trunk Road, are census towns counted within the wider Durgapur urban area.
Durgapur railway station, on the Howrah–Delhi main line, is on this side of the city. Because so many routes meet at Muchipara, tutors from several zones can reach homes around it, which widens the choice of subject specialists. In Arra, write the name as it appears on your address and mention Muchipara or Shankarpur as the nearest big reference; in Bamunara, say which side of the highway you live on. Plan a slot that starts after the evening rush on the main road, and keep an online tutor in mind as backup at the outer edge.
Durgapur children study under the West Bengal board, CBSE and CISCE, with a smaller number on international syllabuses. The board decides the books, the paper pattern and the marking, so we match on it before anything else. A tutor who knows Madhyamik papers inside out may still need time to adjust to ICSE, and the other way round.
| Board | What it covers | A good question for the tutor |
|---|---|---|
| West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) | The school years up to Class 10 and the Madhyamik Pariksha, the Secondary Examination. Paschim Burdwan, Durgapur's district, comes under the board's Burdwan Regional Council Office. | Do you teach from the board's own textbooks, in my child's medium, and practise with past Madhyamik papers? |
| West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) | Classes 11 and 12. Students take two languages, three electives from one set (science, commerce or arts) and an optional elective. The council's site lists project and practical marks and semester examinations. | Which set and electives have you taught, and how will you prepare my child for the semester papers and the practicals? |
| CBSE | NCERT books at the centre, with questions that test whether a student can apply an idea, not only recall it. | How will you practise full written answers alongside the short and objective questions? |
| CISCE: ICSE (Class 10) and ISC (Class 12) | A broad spread of subjects, long written answers, English literature texts and project work. | How will you spread revision over the year so no chapter is left for the final weeks? |
For both state bodies, read notices, routines and syllabus updates on their own sites, wbbse.wb.gov.in for Madhyamik and wbchse.wb.gov.in for Higher Secondary, rather than old printouts or anyone's memory. Our page on West Bengal board tutors in Durgapur goes deeper into both, and the pages for CBSE home tutors in Durgapur and ICSE and ISC tutors in Durgapur cover the national boards. If you are still choosing a board, our comparison of WBBSE, CBSE and ICSE was written for Kolkata families, but its reasoning travels well. IB and IGCSE students in Durgapur usually find the right specialist online.
At this age the work is reading that flows, number sense and tidy notebooks. Many Durgapur children learn in English at school and speak Bengali or Hindi at home, so a tutor who keeps both kinds of reading going, with a small weekly word list, builds confidence quickly. Short, frequent sessions beat long ones, and a little daily task between visits, like reading one page aloud, keeps the habit alive.
Fractions in Class 6 and algebra in Class 8 quietly decide how Class 9 goes. From Class 9, on the West Bengal board, two years begin that end in Madhyamik, and CBSE and ICSE students face a similar climb. A tutor who builds a weekly routine early, and revisits weak Class 8 topics in the first fortnight, makes the board year calmer. Our Class 10 Maths plan and Class 10 Science notes follow NCERT.
Higher Secondary students pick three electives from one set, and CBSE and ISC students make a similar choice. The jump is steep, so a separate tutor for Physics, Chemistry or Accountancy is often worth more than one person for everything. Our Class 12 Physics strategies and calculus and algebra guide help in the board year.
Maths and the sciences are where most families start, but tutors on NXTutors also teach Bengali, Hindi, English, history, geography, computer science, accountancy, business studies and economics, and for younger children one tutor can often cover everything. Each core subject has a Durgapur page of its own: maths, science, chemistry, biology, English, and a page for families looking for a physics tutor in Durgapur, for Class 9 upwards.
A few habits mark a good subject tutor. In maths, they look for the first step that went wrong, even in an older chapter. In physics, they ask the student to describe what is happening in plain words before any formula. In chemistry, they keep numericals, reactions and the organic chapters moving side by side; our Class 12 Organic and Inorganic Chemistry guide shows one way. For Madhyamik, note that the board's science is taught as physical science and life science, so ask for a tutor who knows that split. In English, especially for a child moving from Bengali-medium books, vocabulary is built in both languages first; our spoken English guide adds practice at home.
Parents in Durgapur often weigh three choices, and they are not the same thing. A coaching class teaches a group at a fixed pace, usually with a set syllabus, printed material and regular tests, and is often aimed at an entrance exam. A local tuition class, sometimes called a batch, is a smaller group that follows the school syllabus, often run from a teacher's home. A home tutor, or a one-to-one online tutor, gives the whole hour to one child.
Groups have real strengths: children see how others solve a problem, tests come at a steady rhythm, and the cost is shared. What a group cannot easily do is stop for one child. If your child falls behind in a chapter, hesitates to ask a question in front of others, or needs the lesson in Bengali or Hindi while the class runs in English, one-to-one help fills the gap. It also suits children whose school board or medium differs from what the group follows, and those who need a slot that fits around school, sport or a long ride home.
NXTutors offers only one-to-one teaching, at home or online; we do not run batches, centres or coaching of our own. Many families use both: a group class for structure and a tutor for doubts, written answers and the board syllabus. If you go that way, give the tutor a clear job rather than asking them to repeat what the class already covers, and share the class timetable so the slots never clash. Before you decide, ask of any option how many students share the teacher's attention and how progress is reported to you.
Entrance preparation goes better when the board syllabus and the entrance syllabus are treated as one plan. A tutor is useful in four ways:
Keep to official facts. The National Testing Agency conducts JEE Main and NEET (UG); candidates who qualify through JEE Main can go on to JEE Advanced, whose details are on jeeadv.ac.in. For engineering colleges in the state, WBJEE is run by its own board at wbjeeb.nic.in. Take every date from that year's information bulletin, not from hearsay. For more, see JEE tutors in Durgapur, NEET tutors in Durgapur, our topic-wise plans for Maths, Physics and Chemistry, the NCERT-first approach to NEET Biology, and our WBJEE preparation plan, written for Kolkata but just as useful here.
Both work. Home visits suit children below about Class 6, students who drift during screen time, and subjects where you want to see every line of working. Online lessons open the field to tutors anywhere in India, which helps with IB, IGCSE, ISC electives, Statistics or Computer Science. Local patterns tip the balance:
A common pattern is two or three home visits a week plus a short online check-in before a test, with the same tutor. See online tuition in Durgapur and our comparison of home and online tutoring.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.
We do not set the fee. Each tutor decides their own, and you see the fee of every tutor on your shortlist before the demo. Comparing numbers alone tells you little, so put the same questions to each tutor:
Spend first on the subject causing the most trouble; one strong tutor there usually does more than the same money spread thinly. We never suggest a tutor above the budget you give. For a breakdown by class and subject, see the pricing guide, and for the local picture, read our post on home tuition fees in Durgapur.
A profile helps you shortlist, but an hour of real teaching shows far more. Sit within earshot, or ask your child afterwards, and check these points:
Keep lessons in a shared room while an adult is at home. Our parents' demo class checklist and guide to choosing a board and stream go further.
Any time works, but each part of the year asks something different of a tutor. West Bengal board schools follow the board's own academic calendar, which need not match the April start of CBSE and CISCE schools, so take dates from the school and from the board's notices. In broad terms:
Starting early buys the most time; starting later still helps, with more weight on past papers and timing.
Three steps. First, tell us the class, board, medium and subjects, your locality with a lane or quarter and a landmark, and the hours left free after school. Second, look over the two or three tutors we suggest, fees included, and pick one for the free demo. Third, decide after that lesson. You can also open your own locality from the list on this page, browse tutor profiles or go straight to a free demo class. Where no home tutor lives close enough yet, an online tutor can start without waiting.
For advice locality by locality, our Durgapur home tuition guide walks through all five zones, from the township roads of A-Zone and B-Zone to Arra and Bamunara at the southern edge.
Elsewhere in West Bengal, we also cover Asansol and Kolkata; the full list is on our cities page.

Tutors set their own fees, by class, subject and experience. Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. You see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
It depends on the child. A coaching class gives structure and regular tests for a group, while a home tutor works on one child's gaps, questions and written answers. If your child keeps up and asks freely in class, the group may be enough; if not, a few one-to-one hours a week fill the gap.
Tuition classes teach several students together, while NXTutors matches your child with one tutor for one-to-one lessons at home or online. You get two or three matched tutors, see each fee before a free demo, and can switch tutor later for free. We do not run batches or centres.
Tutors currently cover 18 areas of Durgapur, including A-Zone, Amarabati Colony, Arra, B-Zone, Bamunara. Each area page lists the tutors nearest to it.
CBSE, ICSE and ISC, IB and IGCSE for Classes 6 to 12, plus JEE and NEET preparation, at home or online.
Yes. The first session is a free demo class, so you can judge the tutor's teaching style before deciding. If the fit is not right, we suggest another tutor.
