Not sure which tutor fits? Tell us the class, board and your sector: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.
| Classes a week | Classes a month | At ₹800 an hour | At ₹2,500 an hour |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 8 | ₹6,400 a month | ₹20,000 a month |
| 3 | 12 | ₹9,600 a month | ₹30,000 a month |
In a coaching batch, one teacher's hour is shared by many students, so each family pays for a part of it. At home the whole hour is your child's: the pace, the questions and the homework check follow one student, and the tutor's travel to your home is part of the working day. A small group of two or three children from the same society usually costs less per child, with less individual attention.

Kanpur stretches along the Ganga, and the easiest way to picture it for tuition is as a band of neighbourhoods running from west to east. Kalyanpur, Keshavpuram and Panki sit on the western side along GT Road; Rawatpur, Kakadeo, Pandu Nagar and Shastri Nagar fill the middle; Civil Lines, Swaroop Nagar and Arya Nagar lie north of Mall Road towards the river; a wide southern belt runs from Govind Nagar and Kidwai Nagar down to Barra and Naubasta; and Shyam Nagar, Chakeri and Jajmau make up the eastern edge. The metro's Orange Line already joins the west of the city to the centre and Kanpur Central. Families here choose between the UP Board, CBSE, ICSE and ISC, and a few follow IB or IGCSE, while plenty of teenagers juggle school with an entrance-exam batch. Your side of the city, your child's board and the hours left after school are what decide which tutor can keep coming every week.
You tell us once what the student needs: class, board, the subjects causing trouble, your locality plus a landmark a stranger could find, the slots that stay open after school or coaching, and whether lessons should happen at home, online or both. We then put two or three tutors in front of you. Their fees appear on the shortlist before anyone visits, and whichever tutor you pick teaches the opening lesson as a free demo. In Kanpur, four details shape that shortlist more than anything else:
Use the demo on this week's school chapter. If the tutor is not the right fit, we arrange another one from the shortlist, and switching later in the year costs nothing either.
Kanpur's tutor listings come from 4 tutor profiles, and 19 Kanpur localities get a page of their own. Every locality page lists tutors living in that locality first, followed by tutors elsewhere in the same zone, then the wider city, and finally tutors who teach online. For planning home visits we group the city into five zones: North-West Kanpur, Central Kanpur, West Kanpur, South Kanpur and East Kanpur. They are our planning groups, not municipal wards.
Mall Road is Kanpur's main business street, lined with offices, banks, hotels and shops, and it runs between the Cantonment and Civil Lines, which lies to its north with the Ganga beyond. Homes in Civil Lines range from flats to independent houses and villas, so one family may have a guard at the gate and the next a front door on the street. Swaroop Nagar mixes apartment buildings with residential plots and has daily markets close by, and its neighbours include Harsh Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, Sarvodaya Nagar and Khalasi Lines. Arya Nagar, next door and sharing the same PIN code, is an older central area of independent houses and busy markets.
Two open metro stretches meet here. Moti Jheel station, serving Swaroop Nagar and Harsh Nagar, opened with the first section of the Orange Line on 28 December 2021. The underground section from Chunniganj to Kanpur Central, with stations at Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha and Nayaganj, opened on 30 May 2025, which helps tutors coming from the station side. Bada Chauraha is the busiest crossing on Mall Road and fills up during office hours, so afternoon or early-evening lessons that avoid crossing the business district at its peak are kinder on a tutor's timetable. In Arya Nagar's market lanes, a two-wheeler is simpler than a car.
Kakadeo, also spelt Kakadev, is known for entrance-exam coaching, so coaching centres share its roads with family homes, much of it in apartment buildings. Pandu Nagar next door is a settled residential locality where families tend to stay for years, close to Geeta Nagar and Ashok Nagar. Shastri Nagar began as a small colony and has grown into a full neighbourhood where residents find autos easy to come by. Rawatpur is the busiest of the four, with a bus station, a railway station on GT Road and homes and shops around Rawatpur Chauraha.
The Orange Line crosses this zone above ground. Geeta Nagar station stands at Chhapeda Pulia in Nawabganj, between Gurudev Chauraha and Rawatpur, and Rawatpur station, at the crossing itself, connects with the railway station; both opened in December 2021. For students in Kakadeo, a home tutor normally works alongside coaching rather than in place of it, so agree lesson times that sit around batch timings. The coaching roads are crowded when batches change and parking is tight, while inner lanes off Rawatpur are easiest on foot or by two-wheeler from the main road.
Kalyanpur is a large area on GT Road, the old Grand Trunk Road towards Delhi, and it takes in several parts, among them Indira Nagar, the Awas Vikas colonies, Navsheel Dham, Shivli Road, Bithoor Road, Guba Gardens, Mirzapur and Bara Sirohi. The old core has mostly single-storey houses, while the Awas Vikas colonies and Navsheel Dham are newer planned colonies. Keshavpuram is the state housing board's Yojana No. 1 in Kanpur, a plotted scheme of 189.50 hectares on the Kalyanpur side. Panki, a suburb further west on the highway, mixes homes with an industrial belt and has its own bus station.
Kalyanpur metro station sits on the highway at Guba Gardens, and Gurudev Chauraha station is in Khyora; both opened on 28 December 2021, and the line runs east from them towards the centre. Kalyanpur also has a station on the Anwarganj–Mathura railway line, and Panki station on the Kanpur–Delhi line has an auto stand and serves a wide catchment. Because Kalyanpur is so big, say which part you live in rather than just the area name. Planned colonies have clear block and plot numbers and doorstep access; work traffic on the main roads in Panki is heaviest at shift changes, so set lessons outside those hours.
This zone is a long run of residential neighbourhoods. Govind Nagar is established, with houses, older apartment buildings and a busy retail belt, and includes Halkawanda Colony, Param Purwa and Saket Nagar. Kidwai Nagar, to its east, is mostly independent houses around a market that stays busy all day, and Yashoda Nagar, sharing its PIN code, is older housing where independent homes dominate. Barra is split into Barra Gaon, Barra-1 to Barra-8 and Barra World Bank. Ratan Lal Nagar has Jaina Place and the KDA market as its main markets, and Naubasta mixes flats, houses, plots and villas.
There is no metro station in this zone. Govindpuri railway station, in Govind Nagar, sits on the Delhi–Howrah main line and the lines towards Jhansi and Banda, and the Jhakarkati bus station lies east of Govind Nagar, near Kidwai Nagar; on local trips tutors ride two-wheelers or take autos. The market roads of Govind Nagar and Kidwai Nagar are slowest in the evening, so late-afternoon slots or a tutor from the same neighbourhood are steadier choices. In Barra, always give the part number along with the block and house number, since Barra-2 and Barra-8 are different trips.
Shyam Nagar was largely developed on development-authority land, with many approved apartment buildings, plotted lanes and plenty of parks; Krishna Nagar, Transport Nagar and Gandhigram are among its neighbours. Chakeri, a census town on the eastern side close to the Ganga, holds Kanpur Airport and its own station on the Delhi–Howrah line, with national highways passing through. Jajmau is an industrial suburb on the riverbank and a long-settled part of the city, where residential lanes sit beside workshops, a vegetable market and everyday shops.
The metro does not reach this side, so most tutors come by two-wheeler or auto. Chakeri is smaller than the central localities, which means fewer tutors live right inside it; families often book a tutor from Shyam Nagar or Lal Bangla, or combine a home tutor for one subject with online lessons for another. Highway and work traffic is heaviest in working hours, so evening slots usually run more smoothly. In Shyam Nagar's apartment buildings, give the guard the tutor's name before the first lesson; in Jajmau, a lane name and a nearby shop as a landmark are the quickest way in.
Distance matters less than the route. A tutor near the Orange Line can reach many homes without a vehicle; one crossing the southern belt or the eastern highways will ride. Three things help when you plan a slot:
Whatever the route, send a map pin with the house or flat number before the demo.
In Kanpur you will meet students on the UP Board, CBSE, ICSE and ISC, plus smaller groups on IB or Cambridge IGCSE. Teaching one board well does not make a tutor right for another, so we look at the board and the class together.
The state board's official name is Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, Uttar Pradesh. It is headquartered in Prayagraj, keeps regional offices in Meerut, Bareilly, Prayagraj, Varanasi and Gorakhpur, and conducts the High School examination after ten years of schooling and the Intermediate examination at the end of the 10+2 stage. A good UP Board tutor teaches from the prescribed textbooks, in the medium the student writes the paper in, and practises with the board's own material. Read notices, timetables and results on upmsp.edu.in only. Our page on UP Board tutors in Kanpur goes into more detail.
Everything in a CBSE paper traces back to the NCERT books, and more and more questions ask a student to apply a concept in a situation they have not seen before. That is helpful for a Kanpur teenager also aiming at JEE or NEET, since the same chapters feed both. Where such students slip is the written answer: after months of multiple-choice drills, they forget to show each step the board marking expects.
The CISCE papers, ICSE at the end of Class 10 and ISC two years later, cover a broad syllabus in long written answers, and English includes set literature texts. A tutor's real work is pacing: getting through every chapter with time for several rounds of revision, timed answers that stay precise, and the internal project work each subject asks for.
IB Diploma and Cambridge IGCSE students in Kanpur are fewer, and many find their specialist online. IB marks coursework alongside the final exams; a tutor can guide an Internal Assessment or the Extended Essay but must never write it. IGCSE rewards steady past-paper practice checked against the published mark schemes.
Young children need confident reading, quick and accurate arithmetic, and the habit of finishing written work neatly. Many Kanpur children speak Hindi at home and read their textbooks in English, so a tutor who builds a little reading aloud into every lesson often does more good than another worksheet. Before any early entrance foundation course, check that school maths up to Class 8 is properly understood.
Class 9 brings a jump in Maths and Science, and it is also when many Kanpur students first sign up for a coaching batch. A tutor keeps the school syllabus on track so the High School or Class 10 board year does not get squeezed. For CBSE students, our chapter-wise plan for Class 10 Maths and the Science notes for Class 10 give the tutor a ready structure.
The step into Class 11 is the steepest in school, and a large part of the entrance syllabus sits in it. Gaps left in Class 11 Physics or Maths seldom close on their own in Class 12, so it is worth one specialist per hard subject. Our Class 12 Physics strategies help with the board year itself.
From Class 9 upwards, most Kanpur parents ask first about Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology. Tutors on NXTutors also take English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Social Science, Computer Science, Accountancy, Economics and Business Studies, and many handle every subject for the primary years. Four subjects have Kanpur pages of their own: Maths, Science, Physics and Chemistry, each listing tutors by locality.
In Maths, the useful tutor traces a mistake back to the chapter where it started, even when that chapter belongs to a year already finished. In Physics, marks rise once a student reasons from the law itself rather than searching a formula list. Chemistry asks for three different habits: practice with numericals in Physical, recognising reaction patterns in Organic, and careful reading in Inorganic, which our Class 12 Organic and Inorganic Chemistry guide sets out. A student switching from Hindi-medium to English-medium books benefits from a tutor who explains technical terms in both languages at first and then lets the Hindi drop away; our spoken English guide for students gives practice for home.
It can, and in a city with a large coaching district the tutor's role is usually to support the batch rather than replace it. The arrangement works when the tutor's hour has a clear purpose:
JEE Main is run by NTA in two sessions in the first half of each year, and qualifying there is the route to JEE Advanced. NEET UG takes place once a year with Biology carrying half the marks, so NCERT Biology deserves a line-by-line read. Take dates only from the official information bulletin for that year. Our topic plans for JEE Maths, JEE Physics and JEE Chemistry, and the NCERT-first route through NEET Biology. The question of coaching, a home tutor or both for JEE is argued with Gurugram examples, but the logic carries straight over to Kanpur.
Sitting beside a child suits the junior classes, for students who drift when a screen is in front of them, and for any subject marked on handwritten steps, Maths and Physics numericals above all. A video lesson, by contrast, lets you pick a specialist from any Indian city, which matters for IB, IGCSE, uncommon ISC electives and the hardest entrance problems. Local factors push the decision one way or the other:
A common Kanpur pattern is a mostly-at-home week with one online session slipped in before a unit test, taught by the same person. Our comparison of home and online tutoring covers the trade-offs, and the online tutors for Kanpur page lists who teaches remotely.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fees, and what moves a quote up or down is fairly predictable:
If the budget is tight, spend it on the subject pulling the report card down rather than spreading it thinly over every subject. Ask each tutor how long a lesson runs and how missed sessions are handled. The pricing guide breaks fees down by class and subject, and our post on home tuition fees in Kanpur looks at the city in more depth.
The profile explains why a tutor was suggested. The free hour shows whether the arrangement will last, and these six points are worth watching:
Practical points help too: a flat needs the tutor's name left with security, a house needs a lane name and pin, and lessons belong in a common room while an adult is in the house. Our demo class checklist for parents and the guide to picking a board and stream add more.
CBSE schools restart in April. Seen from a Kanpur parent's side, an exam year has five rough phases:
Rely on official notices for every date. An April start buys a whole year; joining in autumn or winter is still worthwhile, with the hours tilted towards past papers and timing.
One message is enough to begin: the class and board, the subjects, your Kanpur locality and a landmark, and the free hours around school and coaching. Two or three tutor suggestions follow, you choose who comes for the free demo, and nothing is decided until after it. Open your locality from the list on this page, look through the tutor directory, or go straight to booking a free demo. Where nobody nearby teaches the subject yet, online lessons with a tutor in another city can start immediately.
