Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.
| Classes a week | Classes a month | At ₹800 an hour | At ₹2,500 an hour |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 8 | ₹6,400 a month | ₹20,000 a month |
| 3 | 12 | ₹9,600 a month | ₹30,000 a month |
In a coaching batch, one teacher's hour is shared by many students, so each family pays for a part of it. At home the whole hour is your child's: the pace, the questions and the homework check follow one student, and the tutor's travel to your home is part of the working day. A small group of two or three children from the same society usually costs less per child, with less individual attention.

Saharanpur is the headquarters town of its district and division in the far west of Uttar Pradesh, with the railway junction near the middle of the city and the older walled lanes just to its north. Around that centre the homes spread out in rough rings. Nawabganj, Subhash Nagar and Mehandi Sarai keep the close-packed streets of the old city; Krishna Nagar, Pratap Nagar, Madhav Nagar and Numaish Camp run towards the Behat Road side; Patel Nagar, Sharda Nagar and Kamela Colony face west towards Ambala Road and the Nakur road; and the colonies of Gill Colony, Haqikatnagar, Avas Vikas Colony, Navin Nagar and Pant Vihar fill the south. Most children here study under the UP Board, with CBSE and ICSE families living on the same streets. For a parent, the useful questions are simple ones: which tutor can reach the house on the same weekday every week, and what should that tutor actually be asked to do?
It starts with a few lines from you. Write your child's class and board, the subjects or chapters that are slipping, the colony you live in with a lane or shop name a stranger could find, the hours that are genuinely free after school, and whether you want the tutor at your door, on a screen or a bit of each. NXTutors then sends back two or three matched tutors. You can read each tutor's fee before anyone visits, and the first lesson with the tutor you choose is a free demo. In Saharanpur, four details make the biggest difference to a good match:
Treat the demo as an ordinary lesson on whatever chapter is open this week. If the fit is wrong, tell us and the next tutor on the shortlist gets a turn; changing tutor later on is free too.
Saharanpur suggestions are drawn from a pool of 1 tutor profile, and 20 Saharanpur localities have a page of their own. On each one the order of tutors stays the same: those living in the locality first, then tutors who already travel there, then the wider zone, then the whole city, then online tutors. For home visits we group the city into six zones, running here from the old city in the north to the colonies of the south-west: Old City and Nawabganj, Behat Road and Madhav Nagar, Ambala Road and Patel Nagar, Mission Compound and Gill Colony, Haqikatnagar and Paper Mill Road and Pant Vihar and Navin Nagar. These zones are an NXTutors grouping by direction, made to plan tutor travel. They are not official zones and do not follow the municipal corporation's ward map.
This is the part of Saharanpur that grew up inside its old walls, which once had four gates: Sarai, Mali, Buria and Lakhi. Nawabganj is one of the oldest localities, where family homes stand beside shopfronts and many households have lived on one street for generations; the old Ahmedabadi fortress inside it is still a landmark. Subhash Nagar is a settled residential area between the old city and the roads to the west, with Ram Jivan Nagar and Pratap Nagar among its neighbours. Mehandi Sarai, sometimes written Mehndi Sarai, sits on the western edge of the old city near Purani Mandi, with family houses along narrow streets.
State Highway 57, the Delhi to Yamunotri road, passes through the city on this side. Because the colonies are packed so tightly, a tutor who lives in one of them can usually reach the others on a short two-wheeler ride, which makes this one of the easier zones for a regular weekday slot. The catch is finding the house: give the lane, a shop everyone knows and the colour of your gate, and say where a two-wheeler can be left, because some streets are too narrow to stop in.
Krishna Nagar is a quieter residential pocket close to the Behat Road side, with West Krishna Nagar, Ahmed Colony and the Mandi Samiti area listed around it. Pratap Nagar, just to its south, is a colony of family homes on the north-western side of the centre, where many households have more than one child at school. Madhav Nagar lies further east, around smaller colonies such as Bhagwati Colony, Gyan Vihar and Keshav Nagar, and Numaish Camp sits on the eastern side near Janta Road and Beribagh, close enough to the old city for tutors from the centre.
Behat Road leads north towards Behat, a nagar panchayat town in the district, and much of the land along it is still being filled in with residential plots. Colonies here are spread wider than in the old city, so the nearest tutor may live a colony or two away. Two habits help. Put the small colony name, such as Gyan Vihar or Keshav Nagar, before your house number, and say whether you mean Krishna Nagar or West Krishna Nagar, since the two are easily mixed up.
Patel Nagar runs beside the railway line on the western side of central Saharanpur, with Khalasi Lines, the Railway Colony and the Tobacco Factory Colony listed around it; Saharanpur Junction itself stands at New Patel Nagar next door. Sharda Nagar lies further out on the Ambala Road side, near Ankit Vihar and Railway Road, where family houses make up much of what is listed. Kamela Colony is a residential colony at the start of the road to Nakur, with its own urban primary health centre on that road, which makes a handy point to stop and call.
NH 344 leaves the city on this side for Yamunanagar and Ambala in Haryana, so Ambala Road carries plenty of through vehicles at busy hours; a slot outside the early evening suits tutors coming from the centre. Patel Nagar is one of the easiest places in the city for a tutor to find, while Sharda Nagar and Kamela Colony, on the western edge, may draw fewer tutors from the south. Write Patel Nagar or New Patel Nagar exactly as it appears on your gate, because the two sit on different sides of the station area.
Mission Compound is a central locality just south of the junction, with Gill Colony, Kapil Vihar and Narayanpuri as neighbours. Gill Colony is a residential colony in the same belt that one property portal describes as a green part of the city centre with open spaces. Janak Nagar lies on the eastern side, beside Kapil Vihar, with Delhi Road and Gangod Road listed nearby, and Khan Alampura gives its name to the electric loco shed of Indian Railways that was commissioned there in 2015.
Saharanpur Junction opened in 1868 and sits on the Moradabad to Ambala, Delhi to Meerut to Saharanpur and Delhi to Shamli to Saharanpur lines, so this belt is the city's natural meeting point. Tutors from almost every zone can reach it, which is useful when you need a subject specialist for Class 11 or 12 Maths, Physics or Accountancy rather than a general tutor. Use that wider pool well: name the exact chapter that is troubling your child, and tell the tutor which side of the line you live on and the turning you take from Delhi Road or Gangod Road.
Haqikatnagar, also written Hakikat Nagar, is a busier pocket in the south-east of central Saharanpur where shops take up a good share of the street frontage, with homes in the lanes behind. Raj Vihar Colony lies beside the Paper Mill Road side, among Punjabi Bagh and Himmat Nagar, and its homes are family houses a little away from the denser streets further north. Avas Vikas Colony, also written Awas Vikas Colony, sits to the south and has a newer part known as New Awas Vikas, where an urban health centre stands on NH 709B.
NH 709B begins in Saharanpur and runs to Delhi through Shamli and Baghpat, and Paper Mill Road is still filling in with residential plots. Tutors from Gill Colony and Chander Nagar reach this zone without difficulty. When you write your address, give both spellings of Haqikatnagar, and in Avas Vikas Colony say whether you are in the older colony or New Awas Vikas, with any block number from your house plate first. Families here often combine home lessons for Maths and Science with online classes for commerce subjects or a language.
Chander Nagar, also written Chandra Nagar, lies just south of the centre near Mission Compound and the Railway Colony, and Chander Nagar Park is the landmark most people use to give directions. Navin Nagar, often spelt Naveen Nagar, is a colony of family houses further out, with Vasant Vihar, Vinay Nagar and the Nawada Road side around it. Pant Vihar sits on the outer south-west of the city near Indraprasth Colony, Rohit Vihar and Sawalpur Nawada, and many of the recent listings there are residential plots beside new houses.
Fewer tutors live inside the outer colonies, so for this zone NXTutors often widens the search, first to tutors who already travel here and then to online tutors. A common and sensible plan is a home tutor from the nearer colonies for school subjects, with an online specialist for Class 11 and 12 Biology, Chemistry or Physics. For Pant Vihar, name the nearest neighbouring colony, such as Indraprasth Colony or Rohit Vihar, and share a map pin; in Chander Nagar, say which side of the park your house faces.
The UP Board's own site notes that a few secondary schools in Uttar Pradesh follow CBSE or ICSE, while most seek UP Board recognition, and Saharanpur reflects that mix. We read the syllabus your child sits before suggesting anyone, because a tutor who knows one board's papers well can be new to another's.
| Board | What it involves | A question for the tutor |
|---|---|---|
| UP Board (Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, Uttar Pradesh), Prayagraj | The High School examination at Class 10 and the Intermediate examination at Class 12. Saharanpur district is served by the board's Regional Office at Meerut for results, duplicate marksheets and verification. | Will you teach from the prescribed textbooks, in my child's medium, and practise answers in the board's own style? |
| CBSE | NCERT textbooks at the centre, and papers that ask students to apply an idea as well as recall it. | How will you practise the longer written answers, and use the sample papers CBSE publishes? |
| CISCE: ICSE (Class 10) and ISC (Class 12) | Long written papers across many subjects, prescribed English literature and internal project work. | How will you spread revision so the literature texts and projects are not left until the end? |
| IB Diploma and Cambridge IGCSE | Coursework next to final papers for IB; past papers, mark schemes and command words for IGCSE. | Can you guide the Internal Assessment or coursework while leaving the writing to my child? |
The UP Board, set up in 1921 in what is now Prayagraj, has followed the 10+2 pattern from the start. Its timetables, registration notices and patterns change from year to year, so check them on upmsp.edu.in rather than on old printouts or forwarded messages. Our pages for UP Board tutors in Saharanpur, CBSE home tutors in Saharanpur and ICSE home tutors in Saharanpur go into each board in more detail. IB and IGCSE families in Saharanpur usually find the right specialist online.
In the early years, a tutor's job is calm, daily routine: reading aloud without stumbling, handwriting that stays on the line, and tables and place value that a child can use without counting on fingers. Say whether school is in Hindi or English medium, since the tutor plans very differently for each. Short sessions soon after school, with a parent or grandparent in the house, suit small children well.
Middle school is when Maths moves into algebra and fractions and Science brings its first real experiments. A tutor should check the school notebook and set a homework rhythm, not only teach the next chapter. By Classes 9 and 10, whether the paper ahead is the UP Board High School exam, CBSE or ICSE, the aim is a full syllabus with time left for revision. Our Class 10 Maths preparation plan and Class 10 Science notes follow NCERT and help any board's student with the shared topics.
Once a student has picked science, commerce or arts for the Intermediate years or the CBSE senior classes, one all-subject tutor rarely keeps up. A separate Physics or Accountancy teacher usually does better, and you can ask for exactly that. For the board year, see our Class 12 Physics strategies and the Class 12 calculus and algebra guide.
Maths and Science bring in many of the requests from Class 6 onwards, but the tutors listed with us also teach English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Social Science, Computer Science, Accountancy, Business Studies and Economics, and for a younger child one tutor can often cover every subject. Hindi and Sanskrit deserve a mention for UP Board families, because language papers count in both the High School and Intermediate results, and a tutor who can teach grammar and writing, not just reading, makes a real difference. Each core subject has its own Saharanpur page: maths, science, physics, chemistry, biology and English.
What a good subject tutor looks like varies a little by subject. In Maths, they trace a wrong answer back to the step where it went off course, even if that step belongs to an older class. In Science, they ask about the practical file and the record book as well as the theory, since both count. In Chemistry at the senior level, they keep numericals, reactions and facts moving together each week; our guide to Class 12 Organic and Inorganic Chemistry shows one way. In English, they teach the grammar a student needs for answers in every subject, and for a child who thinks in Hindi first, they let both languages work side by side for a while; our spoken English guide offers extra practice.
Some Saharanpur students in Classes 11 and 12 carry three loads at once: school, the board exam and an entrance exam. A home tutor is most useful when given one clear job rather than a general brief to "help with everything". These are the jobs families ask for most often:
Keep to official facts on the exams themselves. The National Testing Agency conducts JEE Main and NEET UG, and information bulletins on nta.ac.in set out each year's pattern and dates; students who qualify through JEE Main can go on to JEE Advanced, whose rules are on jeeadv.ac.in. In NEET UG, Biology carries half the marks, which is why a slow, careful reading of the NCERT Biology books repays the effort. See JEE tutors in Saharanpur, NEET tutors in Saharanpur, our topic plans for JEE Maths, Physics and Chemistry, and the NCERT-first approach to NEET Biology.
Neither is better in general; it depends on the child and the subject. A tutor at the door suits children up to about Class 6, students who lose focus on a screen, and subjects where you want to see every line of working on paper. Online lessons open up tutors from anywhere in India, which matters for IB, IGCSE, an unusual ISC elective or advanced entrance problems. A few local points tip the balance one way or the other:
For online lessons, set up a quiet table, a charged laptop or tablet and headphones, and test the connection before the demo. Many families settle on two or three home visits a week with a short online catch-up before a test, all with one tutor. See online tutors for Saharanpur and our comparison of home and online tutoring.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.
NXTutors does not set fees. Each tutor sets their own, and you see the fee of every tutor on your shortlist before the demo. Rather than looking at the number alone, ask every tutor the same few questions so the answers can be compared fairly:
Spend first on the subject that is causing the most trouble; one strong tutor there usually helps more than the same money spread over several subjects. We never suggest a tutor above the budget you give us. For a breakdown by class and subject, read the pricing guide, and for the local picture, our post on home tuition fees in Saharanpur.
A profile helps you narrow the list, but one real lesson shows much more. Sit within earshot, or ask your child afterwards, and go through these points:
The practical side matters as well. Send the colony, house number, both spellings of the name if it has two and a map pin the evening before. Keep lessons in a shared room while an adult is at home, and ask for a short message after each week about homework and the next topic if both parents work. Our demo class checklist for parents and guide to choosing a board and stream go further.
Tuition can start at any point, but each season gives the tutor a different task. Taking the April start of the CBSE session as a rough guide:
UP Board families should go by the board's own calendar and notices on upmsp.edu.in, which need not match CBSE's. Starting early in the session gives the most room; starting later is still worthwhile, with more weight on past papers and exam technique.
Three steps. First, send us the class, board and subjects, your colony with a landmark and both spellings if it has two, and the hours that are free after school. Second, look over the two or three tutors we suggest, fees included, and choose one for the free demo. Third, decide once that lesson is over. You can also open your own locality from the list on this page, browse tutor profiles or book a free demo class straight away. Where no home tutor lives close enough yet, an online tutor can begin without waiting.
For advice locality by locality, our Saharanpur home tuition guide walks through all six zones, from Nawabganj and Mehandi Sarai in the old city to Navin Nagar and Pant Vihar in the south-west.
