Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.
| Classes a week | Classes a month | At ₹800 an hour | At ₹2,500 an hour |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 8 | ₹6,400 a month | ₹20,000 a month |
| 3 | 12 | ₹9,600 a month | ₹30,000 a month |
In a coaching batch, one teacher's hour is shared by many students, so each family pays for a part of it. At home the whole hour is your child's: the pace, the questions and the homework check follow one student, and the tutor's travel to your home is part of the working day. A small group of two or three children from the same society usually costs less per child, with less individual attention.

Aligarh is an old town, known as Kol or Koil before the eighteenth century, and its homes still arrange themselves around a handful of roads that everybody in the city can name. The narrow lanes of Upper Kot and Manik Chowk hold the old centre, with the Achal Taal tank close to the Agra Road side. To the north, Civil Lines, Marris Road, Dodhpur, Jamalpur and Dhaurra Mafi gather around Medical Road and Jawahar Park. Ramghat Road leaves the centre for the north-east and carries a string of colonies out to Quarsi; Vishnupuri, Naurangabad and Surendra Nagar sit on the GT Road side near the railway junction; and in the south, Sasni Gate, Avas Vikas Colony, Vikas Nagar and Sai Vihar line Agra Road. Children here study under the UP Board, CBSE or the CISCE papers, in Hindi, English or a mix. So the real questions are practical: which tutor can reach this door on the same evening each week, in which language, and to do what job?
A few plain lines are enough to get going. Mention the class and board, the chapters or subjects that have started to slip, the colony and a landmark a newcomer could spot, the hours your child is actually free once school and homework are done, and whether you want lessons in your house, on a screen or a mix. A rough monthly budget keeps the shortlist sensible. NXTutors replies with two or three matched tutors, each one's fee is shown to you before a first visit is booked, and the opening class with the tutor you pick is a free demo. In Aligarh, four details shape the match more than anything else:
Let the demo be an ordinary lesson on the chapter your child is doing this week rather than a chat about methods. If it does not click, say so and we line up the second name on the shortlist; moving to a different tutor further along is free as well.
Suggestions for Aligarh families are drawn from a pool of 1 tutor profile, and 20 Aligarh localities each have a page of their own. On every one of those pages tutors appear in the same order: people living in the locality, then those prepared to travel there, then the rest of its zone, then Aligarh as a whole, and finally online tutors. We plan home visits around five zones, described here from the north of the city round to the south: Civil Lines and Medical Road, Ramghat Road and Quarsi, Vishnupuri and GT Road, the Old City around Upar Kot and Achal Taal and Sasni Gate and Agra Road. The grouping is our own, drawn for tutor travel; it does not follow municipal wards or any official boundary.
Civil Lines has Jawahar Park as its big green space; older family houses on wide lanes stand alongside newer apartment blocks, and the district lists the city's main post office here. Marris Road mixes apartment buildings with independent houses, so a tutor may need a building name and floor rather than a gate. Dodhpur, sometimes written Doodhpur, has a sub post office of its own and shares its edges with the colonies around it. Jamalpur and Dhaurra Mafi are made up mostly of closely set family houses on narrower lanes.
The five localities sit tight together around Medical Road, which is the zone's great advantage: a tutor who lives in any of them can often take students in two or three others on the same afternoon, so the nearby pool is larger than any single colony would suggest. Aligarh Fort, on the Grand Trunk Road on this side, is a handy landmark. For a flat, send the wing and floor and put the tutor's name with whoever keeps the visitor list. For a house in Jamalpur or Dhaurra Mafi, say where a two-wheeler can stand and meet the tutor at the lane corner on the first visit.
Ramghat Road runs from the centre out to the north-east, and its own sub post office gives it a name families use as an address in itself. Swarn Jayanti Nagar, also spelt Swarnjayanti Nagar, lies just off the road with Ramesh Vihar and Kuldeep Vihar close by, and its homes, a settled mix of houses and apartment buildings, are found by block and house number. ADA Colony is a residential colony a short way off Ramghat Road, where homes are found by number. Quarsi, at the far end, has a branch post office and is still adding colonies, and Janakpuri is one of the residential neighbours listed beside it.
City bus route 3 links Ghantabagh with Quarsi, and the zone follows that one long line. A tutor living near Swarn Jayanti Nagar may find the city end easy and the far side of Quarsi a long ride, so name your stretch along with the colony. In the newer Quarsi colonies, names may not show on every map yet; share a map pin, the plot number and the nearest chauraha. Some students here begin entrance foundation work in Class 9 or 10, and it is worth saying so in the request.
Vishnupuri is a busy central neighbourhood where clinics, hotels and offices sit among the homes, and a sub post office carries its name. Naurangabad stretches along GT Road, with family houses on the lanes behind the frontage and a branch post office of its own. Surendra Nagar is a residential mohalla tucked between Naurangabad and Janakpuri, so its families can draw on tutors from this zone and from the Ramghat Road side.
Aligarh Junction, on the Kanpur–Delhi section of the main line and run by North Central Railway, is close to this part of the city, and the Grand Trunk Road carries a good deal of through movement; National Highways 91 and 93 also serve Aligarh. Being central works for you here, because tutors from most directions can reach these homes, which widens the choice of subject specialists. Timing is the trade-off: lessons soon after school or on a weekend morning start on time more often than early-evening ones. On GT Road, say which side of the road you live on and name a shop or clinic the tutor can see from the main road.
Upper Kot, also written Upar Kot or Uperkot, stands on the raised ground of the old citadel at the heart of the town, where the ruins of the Dor fortress lie; its lanes are narrow and homes share them with shops. Manik Chowk, beside it, is a crowded trading neighbourhood where many families live above or behind a business. Achal Taal takes its name from the old tank it surrounds, near the Agra Road side by Dwarikapuri and Hathras Adda. Upperkot and Manik Chowk each have a sub post office.
In the old city, finding the door matters more than distance. The smoothest first visit is one where someone meets the tutor at a corner on the main road and walks them in, or where you send a map pin along with the mohalla, gali and house number. Families who run shops often prefer a morning slot, the hour straight after school or the weekly closing day. Large festival crowds can slow the whole centre for a few weeks of the year, so agree in advance that those lessons move earlier in the day or onto a screen, and ask the tutor to keep a running list of topics so nothing is lost.
Sasni Gate lies by Agra Road and is mostly independent houses, with pockets such as Bank Colony, Lodhi Puram Colony and Bhujpura close by; a branch post office serves it. Avas Vikas Colony, often written Awas Vikas, and Vikas Nagar sit side by side, so a tutor who teaches in one can usually manage the other. Sai Vihar is a newer colony on Agra Road near Talashpur, where finished houses stand beside plots still being built on.
Agra Road leads south out of the city towards Sasni, and it fills at school and office hours, so a slot in the late afternoon, after that first rush, tends to hold up well. Several colonies share one turn off the main road, so give the colony, the turn and the house or block number. In Sai Vihar, send a map pin and the plot number, and in winter ask for a daylight hour while the newer lanes are still filling in. Younger children here often do well with one all-subject tutor; from Class 9, a separate tutor for each difficult subject is worth asking for.
Most Aligarh children study under one of four systems, and the board decides a lot about what a good tutor looks like. We match on board and class together, because skill with one paper style does not carry over to another automatically.
| Board | What it involves | A fair question for the tutor |
|---|---|---|
| UP Board (Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, UPMSP) | Set up at Prayagraj in 1921 and on the 10+2 pattern from the start: the High School examination at Class 10 and the Intermediate examination at Class 12. The board prescribes the courses and textbooks for both. | Will you teach from the prescribed books, in the medium my child writes in, and practise with the board's own model papers? |
| CBSE | NCERT textbooks at the centre, and papers that reward using an idea in a fresh setting, not only remembering it. | How will you train full written answers with every step, not only objective questions? |
| CISCE: ICSE (Class 10) and ISC (Class 12) | A broad syllabus, long written papers, set texts in English literature and project work. | How will you pace revision so the last month is not spent on unfinished chapters? |
| IB Diploma and Cambridge IGCSE | Coursework alongside final papers for IB; past papers and mark schemes for IGCSE. | How will you advise on an Internal Assessment or Extended Essay while the writing stays my child's own? |
The UP Board's website carries the syllabus, model papers and a question bank for High School and Intermediate students, along with career guidance for the agriculture, arts, commerce and science streams. Read timetables, syllabus changes and notices on upmsp.edu.in itself rather than from a forwarded image. Our pages on UP Board tutors in Aligarh, CBSE home tutors in Aligarh and ICSE home tutors in Aligarh go into each board in more detail. For IB or IGCSE, the right specialist is usually found online.
Two things are worth knowing in a mixed household. First, brothers and sisters are sometimes on different boards, and a single tutor teaching both should plan them as separate lessons, not one combined hour. Second, a child who moves from a Hindi-medium UP Board school to an English-medium CBSE or ICSE school, or the other way, needs a few weeks of vocabulary work in the subject itself before the new textbook makes sense; tell the tutor about any such move at the start.
At this stage the aim is fluent reading, quick tables and homework that gets finished. One all-round tutor for a few hours a week usually covers it. For children who speak Hindi at home and study in English, a short spell of reading aloud in each lesson does more than extra worksheets. If the family is thinking about entrance foundation later, make sure fractions, decimals and simple equations are secure first, since later topics are built on them.
Maths and Science step up sharply in Class 9, and Class 10 brings the UP Board High School examination or the CBSE and ICSE board papers. Class 9 is a sensible moment to bring in a subject tutor, before the pressure arrives. Our NCERT-based Class 10 Maths plan and Class 10 Science notes are useful companions for CBSE students.
Physics, Chemistry and Maths move fast after Class 10, and commerce students meet Accountancy and Economics for the first time. For these years, one specialist per difficult subject is usually better than a single tutor for everything. Our Class 12 Physics strategies and calculus and algebra guide fit the Intermediate and Class 12 year.
Maths and the sciences from Class 9 onwards are the usual starting point, yet the tutor profiles cover far wider ground, from Hindi, Sanskrit and English to Social Science, Computer Science and the commerce subjects, while a primary child can often manage with one tutor for everything. Each core subject has its own Aligarh page: maths, science, physics, chemistry, biology and English.
Some signs of a strong subject tutor. A Maths tutor should trace a wrong answer back to the first faulty step, even when that step belongs to last year's chapter. A Physics tutor should get the student to describe the situation in words before writing any formula. A Chemistry tutor keeps numericals, reactions and facts moving together instead of finishing one and forgetting it; our Class 12 Organic and Inorganic Chemistry guide shows one way to do that. A Biology tutor should insist on labelled diagrams and the exact textbook terms. And an English tutor working with a student coming from Hindi-medium books should build vocabulary through both languages first; our spoken English guide gives extra practice at home.
Hindi and Sanskrit deserve a mention of their own. For a UP Board student both are examination subjects, and a tutor who knows the prescribed texts can lift marks in papers that families sometimes leave to chance. A child who is secure in Maths but drops marks in language papers can sensibly spend the tutoring hours there.
Yes, if the tutor is given a clear brief. Some Aligarh students prepare with a coaching class, some study on their own, and some only want a sound foundation from Class 9 or 10. In every case, a tutor's hour belongs to one student, and it pays off most when it does a job nothing else in the week is doing. Families most often choose one of these:
On the exams themselves, rely only on official facts. NTA conducts JEE Main in two sessions early in the year, and candidates who qualify may sit JEE Advanced; NEET UG is held once a year, with Biology making up half the marks, which is why the NCERT Biology text rewards slow, careful reading. Dates and rules come only from that year's official information bulletin. For more, see JEE tutors in Aligarh and NEET tutors in Aligarh, our topic-by-topic plans for JEE Maths, JEE Physics and JEE Chemistry, and the NCERT-first method for NEET Biology.
There is no single right answer; the child and the time slot decide. Home visits suit children below about Class 6, students who drift during screen time and subjects where you want every line of working written on paper in front of the tutor. Online lessons let you pick from tutors across the country, a real help for IB, IGCSE, a rare ISC elective or advanced problem solving. A few Aligarh conditions push the decision one way or the other:
Plenty of households mix the two with one tutor: visits on two or three weekdays, and a brief video call the night before a class test. See online tutors for Aligarh and our side-by-side look at home and online tutoring.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.
Those figures are a range, not a rate card: tutors fix their own fees, and every shortlisted tutor's fee is on the profile for you to read before the demo. Rather than ranking the numbers, ask each tutor the same things:
Spend first where the marks are falling fastest; a good tutor in that one subject tends to achieve more than the same budget split three ways. We leave out anyone priced above the budget you share. The pricing guide breaks fees down by class, and for Aligarh itself there is our post on home tuition fees in Aligarh.
Profiles narrow the field, but one real lesson settles it. Stay close enough to hear, or talk it over with your child once the tutor has left, using these checks:
The practical side matters too. For a flat, give the building, wing and floor and tell the gate in advance; for a house in a close lane, send the mohalla, gali, house number and a map pin. Lessons belong in a family room, with a grown-up in the house. For more, read our parents' checklist for the demo class and the board and stream guide.
You can begin in any month; what changes is the tutor's focus. Counting from April, when the CBSE session opens:
UP Board families should follow the board's own calendar and notices on its website, which need not match CBSE's. Starting in April gives the most room; starting later still helps, with the weight shifting towards past papers and exam technique.
Three steps, in order. Send the class, board, medium and subjects, your colony and a landmark, and the free hours after school. Compare the shortlist of two or three, with fees on view, and book the free demo with one of them. Make up your mind once that lesson is over. If you would rather look around first, pick your locality from the list on this page, read through tutor profiles, or book a free demo class. Where no home tutor lives near enough yet, an online tutor can start straight away.
For advice locality by locality, our Aligarh home tuition guide walks through all five zones, from Dhaurra Mafi and Civil Lines in the north to Sasni Gate and Sai Vihar on Agra Road.
Elsewhere in Uttar Pradesh, we also cover Agra, Lucknow, Kanpur, Meerut, Noida, Bareilly, Moradabad, Saharanpur and Gorakhpur; every other city is on our cities page.

Tutors set their own fees, by class, subject and experience.
