Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

An ICSE child in Aligarh is following a board that asks a lot of written English. Almost every paper wants full, well-built answers; science in Class 10 is three papers, not one; and ISC in Classes 11 and 12 adds compulsory practical and project work to subjects that are already broad. Tutors who mostly teach UP Board or CBSE students do not always mark to that standard, which is why choosing carefully matters. This page explains how the council organises ICSE and ISC, where tuition makes the clearest difference, how to keep ISC science in step with entrance work, how tutors reach six Aligarh localities, and what to try in the free demo. Three of our authors contributed: Abhinandan Tiwary on ICSE maths, Aaditya Kashyap on the sciences, and Ajay Vatsyayan on ISC maths.
Our Aligarh tutors page lists the boards families here follow: the UP Board, CBSE, and CISCE's ICSE and ISC. We publish no shares for them. The contrast that matters for a tutor is with the state board. The UP Board examines at High School, after Class 10, and Intermediate, after Class 12, and publishes its syllabus files mainly in Hindi. CISCE works from its own prescribed texts, expects long answers in English, and after every exam season releases an Analysis of Pupil Performance that shows, paper by paper, where candidates dropped marks. Before hiring someone whose teaching has mostly been for state-board papers, ask them to mark one of your child's ICSE answers in front of you.
| Group | Subjects | Paper : internal |
|---|---|---|
| I (all candidates) | English, plus a second language, plus History, Civics and Geography | 80 : 20 |
| II (choose two or three) | Among them Mathematics, Science, Economics, Commercial Studies and Environmental Science, as well as modern foreign and classical languages | 80 : 20 |
| III (choose one) | Applied subjects such as Computer Applications, Economic Applications, Commercial Applications, Physical Education or Art | 50 : 50 |
In Group III, school-assessed work carries as much weight as the written paper. It is the easiest place to gain marks and the easiest place to lose them through neglect, so a tutor should put its project deadlines on the same calendar as the main papers.
In Mathematics there is a single written paper of 80 marks plus 20 internal marks, which come from a minimum of two assignments, assessed by the subject teacher and by an external examiner. Commercial arithmetic, including banking and shares, sits beside algebra, trigonometry, geometry and statistics. Abhinandan Tiwary's rule for ICSE maths is that every line of working is part of the answer; a correct final number with gaps above it does not earn full credit.
Physics, Chemistry and Biology are three papers of 80 marks, each with its own 20 marks of internal practical work. A strong showing in one does nothing for the other two. Aaditya Kashyap suggests asking at the start whether one tutor can carry all three to the same level or whether the weakest needs a separate specialist. Any ICSE science tutor worth hiring will already be using the council's specimen papers alongside its yearly analysis of how candidates performed.
ICSE Class 10 papers draw on chapters taught in Class 9, and the syllabus is wide. Three habits keep that from becoming a crisis. First, a rota: every few weeks one session in each subject returns to an older chapter, so nothing goes stale. Second, timed long answers from Class 9 onwards, because writing speed improves slowly. Third, a list of every assignment and project with its due date, reviewed on the first lesson of each month. A session might open with the student's own attempt marked line by line, move to one new topic, and close with a single answer written against the clock.
In both ISC years, mathematics is examined through a theory paper worth 80 and a project worth 20. Ajay Vatsyayan's ISC maths notes, on our ISC maths tutor page and in the ICSE and ISC maths guide, go through the paper in detail.
An ISC science student preparing for JEE or NEET is really working to two calendars. Entrance syllabuses rest on NCERT content, while ISC teaches from its own books in its own order, so one topic may be taught at school months before or after it comes up in entrance practice. Early in Class 11, a chart with three columns helps: the ISC chapter, the NCERT chapter that matches it, and the month each one is due. With that chart, the tutor covers both sides, adding NCERT phrasing and quick objective questions where ISC is light, and keeping long answers, practicals and projects on schedule where entrance practice ignores them. See JEE home tutors in Aligarh and NEET home tutors in Aligarh.
| Class | What counts | Useful tuition |
|---|---|---|
| 6 to 8 | School tests only | Full sentences, all working written, exact science words |
| 9 | The first year of the two-year ICSE course | A revision rota from the first term; weekly diagrams and working |
| 10 | Council papers and internal marks | Specimen papers under time, checked against the council's analysis |
| 11 | Electives fixed; promotion rules apply | Careful choice of subjects; an early start on harder ISC topics |
| 12 | ISC theory, practicals and projects | Depth in each elective; no practical or project deadline missed |
For the council's structure in full, read the ICSE and ISC board hub. If ISC and CBSE are both on the table for Class 11, compare with CBSE home tutors in Aligarh and read our guide to choosing a board and stream.
ISC elective specialists are scarcer than general tutors in any city, so many families keep a local tutor for maths and science and add an online specialist for one elective or for literature. The Old City and Vishnupuri and GT Road zone pages, and the Aligarh home tuition guide, have more local advice.
At the end of Class 10, an Aligarh ICSE student usually weighs three routes. Staying on for ISC keeps the council's style, with deeper electives and heavier practical and project work. A switch to CBSE means NCERT textbooks, the board's own sample papers and a new balance of theory and practical marks; what the student knows still counts, though answers get briefer and stick closer to the book. A switch to the UP Board's Intermediate course means new syllabus files, published mostly in Hindi, and papers such as Class 11 maths, which rests entirely on one 100-mark written paper. Read the board's own documents on upmsp.edu.in and our UP Board tutors in Aligarh page before deciding. Whichever route you choose, use the weeks after the Class 10 exams to read the first chapters of the new course. Because ISC choices lock early in Class 11, decide before term starts, not after a trial month.
From Class 6 to Class 10, maths and the three sciences justify a tutor beside the student, because the marking looks so closely at each written line. A screen is the practical answer when an ISC elective or literature specialist is based far away, when only quick checks are needed before exams, and on evenings when the central roads crawl. Online maths and science only work if the tutor can see the pen moving: a tablet with a stylus, a whiteboard both can write on, or a phone held above the notebook. ICSE Class 10 subjects fall into three groups under the CISCE regulations. Group I, which everyone takes, and Group II, where students pick two or three subjects, are marked 80 on the paper and 20 internally. The single Group III subject is split 50 on the paper and 50 internal, so its school work matters a lot.
ICSE physics, chemistry and biology are three separate papers, each worth 80 marks with 20 marks of internal practical work. Strength in one does not carry the others, so ask early whether one tutor can teach all three to the same level or whether the weakest needs its own specialist.
ISC subject choices are fixed after a date set in the regulations during the Class 11 registration year, and a Class 12 subject must have been studied in Class 11. Students take English plus three to five electives, up to six subjects. Decide before Class 11 begins rather than after a trial month.
To move from ISC Class 11 to Class 12, a student needs 35% in four subjects, one of them English, and at least 75% attendance. Practicals are compulsory in subjects that have them, and Physics cannot be combined with Engineering Science. Plan tuition around the weakest of those four subjects.
An ISC science student in Aligarh can prepare for JEE or NEET by mapping each ISC chapter to its NCERT match. Do it early in Class 11, noting the month each is due. The tutor adds NCERT wording and objective practice where ISC is light, and keeps long answers, practicals and projects on time.
Families in Vishnupuri should name a nearby clinic or hotel as the landmark, then the lane and house number; being central, Vishnupuri is within reach of more ICSE specialists. In Sai Vihar, send a location pin and plot number, because some lanes in this newer colony are not on maps yet.
Yes, an ICSE student in Aligarh can move to the UP Board Intermediate course after Class 10, but the papers change. The syllabus files are published mostly in Hindi, and Class 11 maths rests on a single 100-mark written paper. Read the board files on upmsp.edu.in and use the weeks after Class 10 to start the new course.
