Aligarh Home Tuition Guide: Civil Lines, Ramghat Road, Vishnupuri, the Old City and Sasni Gate
Aligarh, the old town once known as Kol or Koil, spreads out from a raised old centre in Uttar Pradesh, and for home tuition its homes fall into five broad groups. Civil Lines and the Medical Road side make up the north; Ramghat Road runs out to Quarsi in the north-east; Vishnupuri and the GT Road colonies sit in the central east; the Old City around Upper Kot and Achal Taal holds the centre; and Sasni Gate and the colonies on Agra Road form the south. Below, all twenty localities, one at a time.
Roads and landmarks tutors in Aligarh know
Many tutors travel by two-wheeler or auto, so a landmark they already know matters more than a long written address. The Grand Trunk Road passes through the city, and National Highways 91 and 93 serve it. Aligarh Junction, on the Kanpur–Delhi section of the main line, sits close to the central-east colonies. Jawahar Park is the large green space in Civil Lines, and Aligarh Fort stands on the GT Road on the north side. City bus route 3 links Ghantabagh with Quarsi, and Agra Road leads south out of the city towards Sasni.
| Zone | Landmark a tutor will know | Kinds of home | What slows a first visit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Civil Lines and Medical Road | Jawahar Park, Medical Road | Older family houses, apartment buildings on Marris Road | Similar names such as Dhorra and Dhaurra Mafi |
| Ramghat Road and Quarsi | Ramghat Road, the Quarsi end of bus route 3 | Colony houses, plots and apartment buildings | Knowing which stretch of a long road you are on |
| Vishnupuri and GT Road | GT Road, Aligarh Junction | Houses on lanes behind shops, clinics and offices | Busy main roads at peak hours |
| Old City (Upar Kot and Achal Taal) | Upper Kot, the Achal Taal tank, Agra Road at Dwarikapuri | Closely built homes beside shops on narrow lanes | Finding the right gali, and festival crowds |
| Sasni Gate and Agra Road | Sasni Gate, Agra Road | Independent houses, newer plots still being built | Colonies that share one approach road |
Civil Lines and Medical Road
The north side of Aligarh mixes older family houses on wide lanes with apartment buildings and closely set homes.
Civil Lines: built around Jawahar Park, with older houses on wide lanes and some newer apartment blocks. For Classes 11 and 12, ask for a subject specialist. Give the colony or lane inside Civil Lines and a crossing that shows on a phone map.
Marris Road: runs between the railway side of the city and Civil Lines, with colonies opening off it towards Ramghat Road. Homes include flats on upper floors and houses with their own gates. For a flat, share the building name, wing and floor; the road is busy by day, so an evening or Sunday-morning class is easier to keep.
Dodhpur: along Dodhpur Road near Medical Road, with older houses, newer flats and some buildings with offices below. For two children, give the class and board of each. A landmark on Dodhpur Road and the side of the entrance help on the first visit.
Jamalpur: in the far north, next to Dhaurra Mafi, with family houses a short way off the main road. Name the mohalla or colony inside Jamalpur, the house number and a shop the tutor can ask about, and say where a two-wheeler can stand if the lane is narrow.
Dhaurra Mafi (also Dhorra Mafi or Dhourra Mafi): mostly family houses between Jamalpur and the Medical Road area. Nearby pockets share part of the name, so write the exact spelling on your gate and the pocket name. If no tutor lives inside the colony, one from Jamalpur or Dodhpur is a good fit for core subjects.
Ramghat Road and Quarsi
Ramghat Road runs north-east from the centre to Quarsi, with colonies such as Swarn Jayanti Nagar, ADA Colony, Ramesh Vihar, Kuldeep Vihar and Janakpuri on either side. Because the road is long, the stretch you live on decides which tutors can come every week.
Ramghat Road: shops and offices along much of the road, homes on the quieter lanes behind. Always say whether you are at the city end, in the middle near Swarn Jayanti Nagar or towards Quarsi. Students here often add entrance foundation work from Class 9 or 10, so mention it in the request.
Swarn Jayanti Nagar (also Swarnjayanti Nagar): a settled colony just off Ramghat Road, with houses and apartment buildings. Addresses go by block and house number. Commerce students in Classes 11 and 12 should ask for an accountancy specialist.
ADA Colony: a colony of family houses with a community park, just off Ramghat Road. Homes are found by house number, so give that first, then any phase or block. For young children, short and regular classes soon after school tend to hold attention better than one long weekly session.
Quarsi: at the north-eastern end of the city, where the bus route from Ghantabagh ends and newer houses keep joining the older settlement. A map pin and the nearest chauraha matter here, because colony names may not show on every map. Many families look for steady help in the Class 10 and Class 12 board years.
Janakpuri: mostly family housing on short lanes, with Surendra Nagar and Ramesh Vihar beside it. Share the lane and house number together, and say whether a neighbouring colony is the easier way in.
Vishnupuri and GT Road
The central-east side of Aligarh lies close to Aligarh Junction and the GT Road. Being central, it is within reach of tutors from many parts of the city.
Vishnupuri (also Vishnu Puri): a busy neighbourhood where homes sit among clinics, hotels and offices. A nearby clinic or shop makes the clearest landmark; add the lane and house number after it.
Naurangabad: stretches along GT Road, with family houses on the lanes behind the shops. Mention the side of GT Road your lane leaves from, plus a landmark visible from the main road. Students here include Hindi-medium UP Board learners and English-medium CBSE and ICSE pupils, so state the language of your child's exam.
Surendra Nagar: a residential mohalla beside Naurangabad and Janakpuri. Write the mohalla name in every message, since nearby names are easy to mix up, and say whether the tutor should turn in from the Naurangabad or the Janakpuri side. Class 10 is a sensible year to begin regular maths and science help.
Old City (Upar Kot and Achal Taal)
The old city is the historic core of Aligarh. Upper Kot stands on the raised ground of the early citadel, Manik Chowk is a crowded trading neighbourhood beside it, and Achal Taal surrounds the old tank of the same name near the Agra Road side. Lanes are narrow, so the first visit needs clear directions.
Upper Kot (also Upar Kot or Uperkot): closely built lanes with homes and shops side by side. Meet the tutor at a corner on the main road for the first visit and walk them in, and give the mohalla, gali and house number.
Manik Chowk: a trading neighbourhood where many addresses are easiest to describe by the shop or building at the entrance. If the family runs a shop, choose one fixed slot that suits the whole household, such as early morning or straight after school, and keep it every week.
Achal Taal: homes stand close together around the tank and along the lanes running back from it, near Dwarikapuri on Agra Road. The area fills with visitors in some seasons, so move classes earlier in the day or online for those weeks, and ask the tutor to keep a short record of topics covered.
Sasni Gate and Agra Road
The south of Aligarh lies along Agra Road, which leads out of the city towards Sasni. Agra Road is busy at school and office hours, so late-afternoon classes tend to start on time.
Sasni Gate (also Sasani Gate): a residential belt of independent houses on lanes off Agra Road, with pockets such as Bank Colony and Bhujpura nearby. Say which colony you live in and the nearest turn off Agra Road. For Classes 1 to 5, one all-subject tutor often works well.
Avas Vikas Colony (also Awas Vikas): family houses and some apartment buildings beside Vikas Nagar, with homes found by house and block number. Say who will be at home for the first few classes.
Vikas Nagar: mostly houses with some small apartment buildings, close enough to Agra Road that tutors from several parts of the south can reach it. Say whether you are reached from the Sasni Gate or the Avas Vikas side. Class 11 students heading for an entrance may want separate physics, chemistry and biology or maths tutors.
Sai Vihar: a newer colony on Agra Road near Talashpur, where finished houses stand beside plots still being built. Send a map pin and the plot number, and ask for a daylight slot in winter while the newer lanes are hard to find after dark.
Boards, mediums and subjects
Aligarh students follow the UP Board, CBSE, or the CISCE's ICSE and ISC. The UP Board, formally the Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, holds the High School examination after Class 10 and the Intermediate examination after Class 12, and its website, upmsp.edu.in, carries the syllabus, model papers and a question bank. Children write their exams in Hindi or English medium, so always tell a tutor which one your child uses.
- By board: UP Board, CBSE and ICSE and ISC tutors for Aligarh students.
- By subject: maths, science, physics, chemistry, biology and English.
- For entrance work alongside the senior classes: JEE and NEET tutors in Aligarh.
Home, online or both
A tutor at the table suits young children. An online class suits a specialist who lives across the city, a late slot, or the weeks when the old city is crowded. An online tutor for Aligarh students can be added to a home plan whenever it is needed. Families in other Uttar Pradesh cities can start from Agra, Lucknow or Noida. Planning the hours and the budget is covered in home tuition fees in Aligarh, and the wider choice in home tutor or online tutor.

Frequently asked questions
Which Aligarh localities and zones does this guide cover?
This guide covers twenty Aligarh localities, grouped into five zones. They are Civil Lines and Medical Road, Ramghat Road and Quarsi, Vishnupuri and GT Road, the Old City around Upper Kot and Achal Taal, and Sasni Gate and Agra Road. Every locality name links to a page of its own, where you will find homes, directions, timing and the tutors NXTutors can put forward.
What landmark should we give a home tutor in Aligarh?
Give a home tutor in Aligarh a landmark everyone knows, then the colony, lane and house number. Jawahar Park, the GT Road, Ramghat Road, Sasni Gate and Agra Road all work. In the old city add the mohalla and gali, and in newer colonies such as Quarsi or Sai Vihar send a phone map location as well.
Why do some Aligarh addresses need two spellings?
Some Aligarh localities are written several ways, such as Dhaurra, Dhorra or Dhourra Mafi, Upper Kot or Upar Kot, and Avas or Awas Vikas. A tutor searching one spelling may land in the wrong place. Write the spelling on your gate, add the pocket or colony name, and send a map pin so there is no doubt.
Can NXTutors find a Hindi-medium UP Board tutor in Aligarh?
Yes, NXTutors can look for a Hindi-medium UP Board tutor in Aligarh when you mention the board, the class and the language of the exam. We shortlist tutors who teach that board, nearest first. Where no home tutor lives near enough, we add online tutors familiar with UP Board textbooks, so classes still track the school books.
What happens if no tutor lives near our colony in Aligarh?
If no tutor lives near your colony in Aligarh, NXTutors widens the search step by step: your zone, then the rest of the city, then online tutors from across India. Plenty of families pair a local home tutor for one subject with an online specialist for a second. Each tutor still begins with a free demo.
How are tutors suggested in Aligarh checked?
Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after the ID check is complete. Each Aligarh request brings two or three matched tutors, with fees shown ahead of the demo. The opening class with every tutor is free, and a later change of tutor is free too.
