Not sure which tutor fits? Tell us the class, board and your sector: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.
| Classes a week | Classes a month | At ₹800 an hour | At ₹2,500 an hour |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 8 | ₹6,400 a month | ₹20,000 a month |
| 3 | 12 | ₹9,600 a month | ₹30,000 a month |
In a coaching batch, one teacher's hour is shared by many students, so each family pays for a part of it. At home the whole hour is your child's: the pace, the questions and the homework check follow one student, and the tutor's travel to your home is part of the working day. A small group of two or three children from the same society usually costs less per child, with less individual attention.

Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) stands on the south bank of the Kaveri. West of the city the river splits into two streams, the Kaveri and the Kollidam, and the land caught between them is the island of Srirangam, now part of the city corporation. On the mainland, the old town crowds below the Rockfort, with Big Bazaar Street and the Main Guard Gate at its heart. Thillai Nagar, Woraiyur and Tennur spread out to the west of it; KK Nagar and the Madurai Road neighbourhoods fill the south-west towards the airport; Golden Rock grew around the railway workshop east of the Junction; and the Thanjavur highway carries the city on to Thiruverumbur and Thuvakudi. Several railway stations lie inside the city itself. For a parent, three plain facts settle most of the search: which side of the water you live on, the nearest station or bus stand, and the hour your child is genuinely free.
It all starts from one message. Note down your child's class and board, the subject or subjects giving trouble, your neighbourhood with a landmark an auto driver would know, the hours left over after school and any special class, and whether you would like lessons at home, online or some of each. We reply with two or three tutors who fit. You see each one's fee before a meeting is fixed, the first class with your pick is a free demo, and switching later costs nothing. In Trichy, four local questions do most of the narrowing:
Use the demo for real work: bring this week's chapter or the last test paper. If the match does not feel right, the next name on the list is arranged for you.
Trichy suggestions are drawn from our tutor profiles, and 18 Trichy neighbourhoods have a page of their own. Each lists tutors living in that neighbourhood first, then the rest of the zone, then the city, then online tutors. For planning home visits we group Trichy into five zones, starting on the island and moving south and then east: Srirangam and the north bank, Thillai Nagar, Woraiyur and Tennur, KK Nagar and Madurai Road, Golden Rock and Palakkarai and Thiruverumbur and Thanjavur Road. The city corporation has four administrative zones of its own, Srirangam, Abhishekapuram, Golden Rock and Ariyamangalam; our groups follow how tutors travel, not ward boundaries.
Srirangam is the island itself, with the Kaveri along its southern edge and the Kollidam along its northern one. It lends its name to one of the corporation's four zones, which also takes in Srinivasa Nagar, Gitapuram and Thiruvanaikaval. The large temple at its centre is the reference point in every set of directions, and many of the older homes around it are traditional houses on long streets. Thiruvanaikaval, also written Thiruvanaikoil, lies on the Kaveri side of the same island; its own old temple is the landmark locals use, and homes fan out along the streets around it. Across the Kollidam, Manachanallur is a taluk headquarters that joined the city when it merged with the corporation in 2023. Its rice mills polish the Ponni rice grown in the delta, so mill premises stand among streets of houses, and State Highway 62 passes through the town.
Srirangam railway station and a city bus route to the Central Bus Station link the island with the mainland, with an auto for the final stretch. Island homes are mostly independent houses with no gate register. Plan around two things: the river crossing, which slows in the evening, and festival days, when streets near the temple fill up. Manachanallur is reached by road, through the Samayapuram bypass and the Chennai highway; buses or a two-wheeler are the realistic ways in, and weekend sessions often suit students there.
Thillai Nagar, officially named in 1990, is one of the most familiar addresses in Trichy: a busy commercial road of showrooms, banks, restaurants and offices, with tree-lined residential streets tucked behind it. Woraiyur, also spelled Uraiyur, is an old part of the city and once gave the whole city its name. Today it is a major commercial centre, its long-established shops and markets set beside older streets of houses. Tennur is a business locality beside the city's main vegetable market and falls in the corporation's Abhishekapuram zone, with offices and shops sharing the ground with residential streets. East of all three is the old town around the Rockfort, unplanned and closely built, while the newer sections to its west are laid out more regularly.
Two small stations serve this side. Tiruchirappalli Fort station stands opposite the Main Guard Gate and served the old town around Big Bazaar Street, Singarathope and Teppakulam; Tiruchirappalli Town station, near the Rockfort, is a key link to Chathiram Bus Station. Homes range from independent houses to apartment buildings, where visitors may sign in. Thillai Nagar's main road and Woraiyur's market streets fill up in the evening, so a tutor who uses the side streets or arrives before the peak has an easier time; in Woraiyur's narrow lanes a two-wheeler beats a car.
KK Nagar is a residential part of southern Trichy and the most densely populated ward in the city. It takes in Sundar Nagar, K. Sathanur and the main layout, and farmland still surrounds Sathanur and Vadugapatti at its outer edge. Wireless Road leads from it to Tiruchirappalli International Airport, and the Trichy–Madurai highway runs along its eastern side. Edamalaipatti Pudur, shortened to E. Pudur by almost everyone, lies on Madurai Main Road with KK Nagar to its east, Crawford to its north, Karumandapam to its west and Panjappur to its south. Crawford began in the 1920s as a planned colony on Madurai Road, and its regular streets of houses feel settled. Karumandapam, on the Tiruchi–Dindigul road right beside the Junction, mixes homes, shops and clinics. Pirattiyur, a former village panchayat that joined the corporation in 1994, houses the West Regional Transport Office, and the hill temple at Rettai Malai is how people there give directions.
No zone sits closer to Tiruchirappalli Junction, whose lines run out towards Viluppuram, Karaikkudi, Dindigul and Karur, or to the Central Bus Station, which makes Crawford and Karumandapam two of the simplest places in the city for a tutor arriving by train or bus. KK Nagar also has its own bus stand with several city routes. Housing is mostly plotted layouts of independent houses, plus newer apartment buildings where the gate may log visitors. Madurai Main Road and the Dindigul road are heavy at school and office times, so an evening slot after the rush, or a weekend morning, holds up better. In KK Nagar's spread-out layouts, a map pin saves a search on the first visit.
Golden Rock, Ponmalai in Tamil, gives its name to another of the corporation's zones. Much of its land belongs to the railway workshop, which moved here from Nagapattinam in 1928, and to the residential colonies built around it, so many families have links with the railways. Its Sunday market, held since 1926, is the weekly fixture everyone knows. Sangiliyandapuram grew partly as a home for retired workshop staff, was once known for aluminium works and now trades in timber; its main road joins Palakkarai to the national highway at Senthaneerpuram. Palakkarai is one of the most crowded central neighbourhoods, its commerce gathered around the vegetable market and Big Bazaar Street. Ariyamangalam, further east, names the fourth corporation zone and holds one of the city's two state small-industries estates, so workshops sit close to its residential streets.
Rail is this zone's strong point. Golden Rock station serves Subramaniyapuram, Senthaneerpuram and Sangiliyandapuram; Manjatidal and the main Junction are near; and Palakkarai has a small halt on the line to Karur. A city bus route runs through Sangiliyandapuram between Chathiram Bus Station, the Central Bus Station, the Junction and Senthaneerpuram. At a railway colony entrance, staff may ask whom the tutor has come to see. Palakkarai's market streets are busy from early morning, goods traffic from the timber yards fills Sangiliyandapuram's main road by day, and the estate decides Ariyamangalam's rush hours, so late-afternoon and evening lessons are the steadier choice. Avoid Sundays near the Golden Rock market.
Thiruverumbur stands on the Trichy–Thanjavur national highway on the city's eastern side. It was a town panchayat with industrial and residential parts until it merged into the corporation in 2011, and its hillock, one of the prominent hills of the city area, is a handy landmark. Navalpattu, a census town on the south-eastern outskirts, has a satellite town developed close to it and an IT park spread across a large campus. Thuvakudi, further along the highway, is a separate municipality, second grade since 2010, with more than 250 industrial units; besides the highway, state roads lead off from it towards Ayyampatti and Kiranur.
Thiruverumbur railway station on the Trichy–Thanjavur line is used daily by office workers, industrial staff and students, and is the nearest station for Navalpattu and Thuvakudi as well. Thiruverumbur is a major stop for city buses and for express buses on the highway, and Thuvakudi has a bus stand of its own. Homes are mostly independent houses on flat ground with room to park; families in staff quarters may need to sign the tutor in at the gate. Pick a slot after the evening shift change, when highway traffic eases. At the city's edge, a tutor living along this corridor is the practical home choice, with online classes for specialist subjects.
Requests from Trichy usually name the Tamil Nadu State Board, CBSE or CISCE, whose ICSE runs to Class 10 and ISC covers Classes 11 and 12. Fewer follow IB or Cambridge IGCSE. Skill in one syllabus does not carry over on its own, so we match board and class together.
The Directorate of Government Examinations conducts the State Board's Class 10 (SSLC) and Class 12 (Higher Secondary) examinations. Its State Board of School Examinations was formed in 2011 by merging the Board of Secondary Education with the Board of Higher Secondary Examinations, and Tiruchirappalli is home to one of the Directorate's seven regional offices. A good State Board tutor teaches from the state textbooks your child's school uses, knows when the school's term tests fall, and paces revision to the official timetable. Schemes and dates belong to dge.tn.gov.in alone; our page on Tamil Nadu State Board tutors in Trichy goes into more detail.
CBSE papers are built on NCERT, and more questions now test a concept in a setting the book never showed. Tuition that works covers each NCERT chapter in full, practises on the board's own sample papers and marking schemes, and expects every answer set out in steps, since method marks survive a slip in the final figure.
CISCE sets long papers over a broad syllabus, and English includes prescribed literature. Breadth is the real difficulty: chapters learnt in the first term fade by the exam. A tutor for these boards should keep bringing earlier chapters back into lessons, set answers to write against the clock, and track practical and project work in each subject.
IB Diploma and Cambridge IGCSE families usually find the closest specialist online. IB grades coursework as well as final exams; a tutor may comment on an Internal Assessment or Extended Essay but must never write it. IGCSE rewards regular past-paper work marked strictly to Cambridge's published schemes.
Early on, the essentials are confident reading, quick arithmetic and tidy, finished written work. Many Trichy children speak Tamil at home and meet English in their textbooks, so reading each lesson aloud and talking it over in both languages often does more than an extra worksheet. Entrance foundation courses can wait until school maths to Class 8 is secure.
Class 9 is when algebra, geometry and the science chapters get heavier, and whatever is skipped then comes back in the Class 10 paper, whether that is the SSLC, CBSE or ICSE. CBSE families can lean on our Class 10 Maths preparation plan and Class 10 Science notes, which follow NCERT chapter by chapter; the method adapts well to State Board books.
The move into Class 11 is the steepest climb of school, and entrance syllabuses draw heavily on it. A weak Class 11 in Physics or Maths is hard to rebuild in Class 12, so one specialist per difficult subject is worth it. For the final year, read our Class 12 Physics strategies and the notes on Class 12 calculus and algebra.
From Class 9 onwards, requests cluster around Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Tutors on NXTutors also take English, Tamil, Social Science, Computer Science, Accountancy, Commerce and Economics, and for primary classes many teach every subject. Trichy has its own pages for maths home tutors, science home tutors, physics home tutors and chemistry home tutors.
A few habits pay off whatever the board. In Maths, find the first chapter where understanding broke down, even if it sits two classes back, and rebuild from there. In Physics, the idea should make sense before its formula is memorised. Chemistry asks for three separate skills, calculation in Physical, mechanisms and patterns in Organic and careful reading in Inorganic, and our Class 12 Organic and Inorganic Chemistry guide unpacks them. A student moving from Tamil-medium to English-medium books gains from a tutor who gives each technical word in both languages at first, then lets the Tamil fade; our spoken English guide for students adds practice at home.
Yes, if the tutor has a clear role beside school and any coaching class. Four jobs suit a tutor well:
NTA conducts JEE Main in two sessions in the first half of the year, and candidates who qualify can go on to JEE Advanced. NEET UG is held once a year and Biology carries half its marks, so NCERT Biology deserves reading line by line. Dates should come only from the current year's official information bulletin. Trichy has pages for JEE home tutors and NEET home tutors, and our topic plans for JEE Maths, JEE Physics and JEE Chemistry, together with NEET Biology taken NCERT-first, are worth sharing with whoever teaches your child.
A tutor at the table suits young children, students who drift on a screen, and Maths or Physics numericals where you want to see every line. Online lessons reach specialists anywhere in India, which counts most for IB, IGCSE, ISC electives and hard entrance problems. Trichy's geography adds a few points of its own:
Many families mix two or three home lessons a week with a short online session before tests, all with one tutor. Our home tutor or online tutor comparison sets out the trade-offs, and the page on online tutors for Trichy students lists who teaches remotely.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor sets their own rate, and when two quotes differ the reason is usually one of these:
Before agreeing a rate, ask how long lessons run, whether tests are set and marked, and what happens when a session is missed. One strong tutor in the hardest subject usually achieves more than light help in four. Every suggested tutor's fee is visible before the demo, and nobody above the budget you give is put forward. The pricing guide breaks fees down by class and subject, and our post on home tuition fees in Tiruchirappalli covers the questions to ask locally.
A profile earns a place on the list; the demo shows whether the tutor fits your week. Notice whether the tutor:
For a railway colony, staff quarters or an apartment building, give the entrance the tutor's name before the demo; for a house, send the street, a landmark and a location pin. Keep lessons in a shared room with an adult at home. Our demo class checklist for parents and our guide to choosing a board and stream go further.
Trichy has more than one school calendar running at once. CBSE's session starts in April, State Board schools follow the calendar their school announces, and the Directorate of Government Examinations lists March and June sessions for the SSLC and Higher Secondary examinations, with special supplementary examinations for students who do not pass in March or April. In broad terms a board year moves through these stages:
Confirm each date from the official notice. Starting with the session gives the most room; joining later still helps, with more weight on past papers.
Send us the class, board and subjects, your neighbourhood with a landmark, and the hours that fit around school. You will hear back with two or three suggested tutors; pick one for the free demo and decide afterwards. You can start from your neighbourhood in the list on this page, look through all tutor profiles or book a free demo class straight away. If no home tutor is close enough yet, an online tutor from elsewhere in India can begin at once.
