Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Trichy children study on the Tamil Nadu State Board, CBSE and the CISCE boards, and tutors often teach students from more than one. That is useful, but it carries a risk for a CBSE child: a tutor who knows the content well can still teach to the habits of another board's paper. CBSE tuition works when the NCERT text is treated as the core, the official sample papers are used for practice, and every written answer is checked the way CBSE marks it. This page sets out the signs that a CBSE child needs help, what the board asks for at each stage from Class 6 to Class 12, the newer rules in Classes 9 and 10, how the senior subjects split their marks, how board work sits beside JEE or NEET, how tutors reach six Trichy localities, and what to test in a free demo. It is written by Abhinandan Tiwary, who teaches Class 10 CBSE and ICSE maths, and Aaditya Kashyap, who teaches CBSE and ICSE science.
Marks falling is the obvious sign, but it usually arrives late. The earlier signals are easier to act on, and each points to a slightly different kind of help.
| What you notice | Likely gap | What to ask a tutor for |
|---|---|---|
| Homework is done, but test marks lag well behind it | Knows the routine exercises; struggles when a question is set differently | Competency-style practice from the official sample papers |
| Answers are correct but marks are cut | Missing steps, units or labels | Weekly written answers marked against the CBSE scheme |
| Maths marks dip suddenly in Class 8 or 9 | An older gap in fractions, integers or early algebra | A short repair of the earlier topic before pushing ahead |
| Science answers are vague | Reading the NCERT chapter once without testing | Recall of key definitions and diagrams, then written explanation |
| Exam papers left unfinished | Speed and choosing the order of questions | Timed sections from sample papers with a review of time spent |
Every CBSE paper is built on the NCERT books, and the board publishes sample question papers and marking schemes on cbseacademic.nic.in each year. In the secondary classes, about half of each paper now tests competency: case studies, source passages, data to interpret and situations where a familiar idea must be applied in a new setting. Marks are given for each step, so a correct final line with the working missing loses marks, and a sensible method with a slip near the end keeps most of them. A tutor in Trichy whose recent students have mostly been on the State Board, whose examinations are conducted by the Directorate of Government Examinations from the state's own textbooks, may know the content perfectly and still need to show they have worked with CBSE's question style and marking. Ask about it directly at the demo.
Language is worth a mention too. Many Trichy children speak Tamil at home and study in English at school. A tutor can explain a hard idea in Tamil if that is quicker, but written answers should be practised in clear English every week, because that is how they will be marked.
| Stage | Year-end paper set by | Where tuition time pays off |
|---|---|---|
| Classes 6 to 8 | The school | Number sense, reading word problems slowly, and writing every step; habits formed here last |
| Class 9 | The school, with 80 marks written and 20 internal in major subjects | Algebra, geometry and three sciences step up together; regular chapter tests catch gaps early |
| Class 10 | CBSE, with 20 of each 100 marks from the school | Sample papers under time, marked to the published scheme; competency questions every week |
| Class 11 | The school | The jump in depth in physics, chemistry and maths; foundations for the board year |
| Class 12 | CBSE, with a practical or internal share | One revision calendar for the whole syllabus, written answers kept alive beside any entrance work |
The pass mark in Class 10 is 33% in each subject. When marks drop without warning in Class 9, look backwards first: the cause is usually an older topic, and mending it does more than racing ahead of school.
From 2026-27, every Class 9 student sits a common 80-mark paper in mathematics and another in science. Beyond that, a student may opt for an Advanced paper in one, both or neither. An Advanced paper is worth 25 marks, runs for one hour, and contains only higher-order questions on extra content. It does not count towards the aggregate, although a score of 50% or more is recorded on the marksheet. The old Basic and Standard choice in mathematics is being phased out, with the 2026-27 Class 10 group the last to finish under it. Our suggestion: pick Advanced only where your child is already strong and curious, never as a lever to lift a weak subject.
Class 10 now has two board examinations. The first is compulsory for everyone. A student who passes may sit the second to try to improve up to three subjects from science, mathematics, social science and the languages. Prepare for the first as if it were the only one; the second is a safety net for a single paper that went wrong, not a second plan for the whole year.
| Subject (code) | Theory | Practical or internal | Tutor's angle |
|---|---|---|---|
| Physics (042), Chemistry (043), Biology (044) | 70 | 30, practical | Theory carries most marks, but the practical record and viva need steady work too |
| Mathematics (041) or Applied Mathematics (241), only one | 80 | 20, internal | Full working on every long question; Applied Mathematics needs a tutor who has taught it |
| Accountancy (055), Economics (030), Business Studies (054) | 80 | 20, internal | Formats in accountancy and precise terms in economics |
The Class 12 board paper covers the full Class 12 syllabus, and CBSE has said senior papers will carry more questions about real situations. Each year's design comes with that year's sample paper, so a tutor working from an old one is out of date. For the board year, read our guides to Class 12 physics, organic and inorganic chemistry and calculus and algebra.
Some Trichy students switch board after Class 10, in either direction. Most of the content transfers; the habits take longer. A student arriving in CBSE Class 11 from the SSLC should read the NCERT chapters closely, since CBSE questions often depend on a particular line or diagram, and should meet competency-style questions early. For a move in the opposite direction, the priorities flip: learn the sequence and worked examples of the state textbooks, and practise on the Directorate's earlier papers. Either way, a short bridging plan in the break after Class 10 helps: the opening chapters of the new course, the new paper's question style, and a handful of written answers marked to the new board's standard.
For a CBSE student, NCERT sits under both the board paper and the entrance syllabus, so no time on it is wasted. The trouble comes late in Class 12, when months of quick objective practice leave written answers rushed. A board tutor guards against that in three ways: listing the NCERT chapters the entrance preparation skimmed and returning to them for written questions; asking for at least one full board-style answer in each session; and keeping the practical record and internal work on schedule. The entrance side is covered on JEE home tutors in Trichy and NEET home tutors in Trichy.
Every locality is on the Tiruchirappalli home tutors page, and the Trichy home tuition guide covers timing zone by zone, including Srirangam and North Bank and Thillai Nagar, Woraiyur and Tennur.
Visits pay off for children in the junior classes and for any subject where the written steps carry the marks: mathematics, physics numericals, balancing equations and accountancy formats. Online suits a quick doubt session, a senior subject whose right tutor lives across the city or on the far side of the Kaveri, and evenings when travel is unreasonable. Many families mix the two with the same tutor. Our home versus online comparison and the online tutors for Trichy page explain the options. For subject depth, see the Trichy maths, science, physics, chemistry, biology and English pages, our Class 10 maths plan and Class 10 science notes, and the CBSE board hub for the board in full.

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. For CBSE in Trichy, the class, the number of subjects, how many sessions a week and how far the tutor travels all affect the fee. The pricing guide and our post on home tuition fees in Tiruchirappalli explain the factors.

A Tiruchirappalli CBSE child may need a tutor when test marks lag behind homework, correct answers lose marks for missing steps, or maths dips in Class 8 or 9. Vague science answers and unfinished papers are other signals. Each calls for a different fix, from competency practice to written answers marked against the CBSE scheme.
A Trichy tutor used to State Board students usually knows the content, but must also show they work with CBSE's question style and marking. CBSE builds papers on NCERT, sets about half of each secondary paper as competency questions and gives marks for each step. At the demo, ask which sample paper they use and watch them mark an answer.
From 2026-27, Trichy CBSE students in Class 9 sit a common 80-mark maths paper and science paper, and may add an Advanced paper in one, both or neither. It is worth 25 marks, runs for one hour and holds only higher-order questions. It stays outside the aggregate, though a score of 50% or more is recorded.
No, a Trichy Class 10 CBSE student should prepare for the first board examination as if it were the only one, since it is compulsory for everyone. A student who passes may sit the second to improve up to three subjects from science, mathematics, social science and the languages. Treat it as a safety net for one paper.
Yes, a CBSE home tutor in Tiruchirappalli may explain a difficult idea in Tamil if your child understands faster that way. Written answers, though, should be practised every week in clear English with each step shown, because that is how they are marked. Mention your language preference in the request and check this at the demo.
For Trichy students in CBSE Classes 11 and 12, physics, chemistry and biology carry 70 theory marks and 30 practical. Mathematics or Applied Mathematics, only one of which is taken, carries 80 written and 20 internal, as do accountancy, economics and business studies. Each year's design comes with that year's sample paper on cbseacademic.nic.in.
A Trichy student moving from the SSLC into CBSE Class 11 should read NCERT chapters closely and meet competency-style questions early. CBSE questions often depend on a particular line or diagram. A short bridging plan in the break helps: the opening chapters of the new course, its question style, and a few written answers marked to CBSE's standard.
A CBSE Class 12 student in Trichy keeps board answers strong by writing at least one full board-style answer in every tuition session. The tutor also lists NCERT chapters that entrance preparation skimmed and returns to them, and keeps the practical record and internal work on schedule. NCERT underlies both papers, so that time is never wasted.
