Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

For most Trichy students on the state syllabus, school years are measured against two public examinations: the SSLC at the end of Class 10 and the Higher Secondary examination, usually called the +2, at the end of Class 12. Both are conducted by the Directorate of Government Examinations, and Tiruchirappalli is one of the seven cities where it keeps a regional office. A home tutor helps most when the work follows what the Directorate actually examines, in the order it examines it. This page sets out who runs the examinations, which parts make up the SSLC and the Higher Secondary course, how an examination season runs, what happens for a student who needs a second attempt, the scholarship tests the Directorate conducts for younger children, how to describe your child's group when asking for a tutor, a plan from Class 9 to the +2, and how tutors reach six localities across the city. Every detail should be checked against dge.tn.gov.in, which is the only source to trust for dates.
The Directorate of Government Examinations, part of the state's school education department, conducts the board examinations taken by State Board students in Standard X and Standard XII. It describes the mark certificates from those examinations as vital documents for continuing into higher education and for jobs. In 2011, a government order brought the old Board of Secondary Education and Board of Higher Secondary Examinations together as a single State Board of School Examinations, which now stands behind both levels.
The Directorate works through seven regional offices: Madurai, Coimbatore, Tiruchirappalli, Tirunelveli, Chennai, Cuddalore and Vellore. The regional offices handle the logistics: stationery for the examination halls is transported through them, money for running the examinations is distributed by them, and mark certificates reach students via them. For a Trichy family that is a small but useful fact: the certificate your child receives after the SSLC or +2 passes through a regional office in your own city. The SSLC and +2 are not its only work: the Directorate's list also includes an eighth-standard examination for private-study candidates (the ESLC), teacher diploma papers, technical examinations in crafts and trades, and the scholarship tests covered below.
The Directorate's SSLC timetable groups the Class 10 papers into four parts. Knowing the grouping helps when you decide which subjects need a tutor and which your child can manage alone.
| Part | Paper | How tuition usually fits |
|---|---|---|
| Part I | Tamil or another language | Help with grammar and written composition when marks lag |
| Part II | English | Reading, grammar and writing practice, often online |
| Part III | Mathematics, Science and Social Science | The most common request: maths and science at home, with written answers practised every week |
| Part IV | Optional language | Only where the school offers it and the child takes it |
In mathematics and science, a student loses marks less often through not knowing a chapter than through untidy steps, missing units and careless diagrams. A tutor who has the student write full answers from the state textbook's worked examples, and then compares them against the Directorate's earlier papers and sample papers, prepares for the paper as it is actually set. The Trichy maths, science and English pages go into each subject.
The +1 and +2 years also follow a parts structure. Part I is a language and Part II is English, both common to every student. Part III is the group the student chose after Class 10. The subjects examined under Part III on the Directorate's timetable can be grouped roughly like this:
Our board and stream guide helps a family weigh the choice before Class 11, and the Trichy physics, chemistry and biology pages cover the science subjects.
Several State Board subjects have names that sound alike but are taught and examined separately. Getting the name right in the request saves a wasted demo.
| If your child takes | It is not the same as | Write in the request |
|---|---|---|
| Business Mathematics and Statistics | The science group's Mathematics | The full subject name, and that it is the commerce group |
| Botany and Zoology as two subjects | Biology taken as a single subject | Which of the two arrangements the school follows |
| Computer Applications | Computer Science | The exact title printed on the textbook |
| Communicative English | Part II English | Whether help is needed for one or both |
Add the medium, the school's term pattern if you know it, and whether any national entrance is part of the plan.
The Directorate lists a March session and a June session for both the SSLC and the Higher Secondary examination. On its timetable, practical examinations come first and the theory papers follow, for the +2, for the SSLC and for any +1 candidates. On each paper day, candidates first get time to read the question paper and check their particulars, and then write for three hours.
Two practical points follow for a tutor. First, practical records, experiments and their viva preparation have to be finished before the practical examinations begin, not squeezed in alongside theory revision. Second, the theory papers come close together, so the last weeks are for timed papers and revision, not new chapters. The exact dates change each year: check the current timetable on dge.tn.gov.in, and trust that page over any forwarded message.
On the Directorate's 2025-26 timetable, the Higher Secondary first-year examination was listed for arrear candidates from 2018 to 2025 only. Older siblings may remember Class 11 differently, so ask the school how your child's batch is being assessed in Class 11. Whatever the answer, a tutor should teach Class 11 properly. The +2 course builds straight on it, and a student who coasts through +1 physics or mathematics usually pays for it in the +2 year.
The Directorate conducts special supplementary examinations for Classes 10 and 12, so that a student who does not pass in the March or April examinations can continue without losing a year. Since the June and July round of 2012, a student may sit these whatever the number of subjects they failed. The gap between results and the supplementary papers is short, so if you want a tutor for that sitting, ask as soon as the marks are out and give the tutor the marked subjects first. Notices about the supplementary examinations and other services after results appear on the Directorate's website and its linked notification portal.
Tell us the medium your child writes in when you send a request. A tutor can explain an idea in whichever language makes it click fastest, but written practice should always use the terms of the textbook your child studies from, in the medium they will write in the examination hall. For a student moving from Tamil medium in Class 10 to English medium in Class 11, a useful bridge is a running list of technical terms in both languages, built up chapter by chapter in the first term.
The National Talent Search Examination also appears among the Directorate's functions. Rules and schedules for all three are revised, so go by the latest notification on the Directorate's website. If your child is eligible, a maths tutor can fold some reasoning practice into normal sessions; it should not push out the school syllabus.
| Class | Aim for the year | Rhythm that tends to work |
|---|---|---|
| 9 | Stay level with the school in maths and science, and build the habit of tidy steps and labelled figures | Two visits a week |
| 10 (SSLC) | No chapter left out, earlier Directorate papers attempted against the clock, practicals ready in good time | Two or three visits a week, more in the final term |
| 11 (+1) | A firm grounding in the Part III group, plus whatever the school assesses | One session a week per difficult subject |
| 12 (+2) | Whole papers under exam timing, long answers written out in full, records finished, and any entrance plan agreed | Two sessions a week in each core subject before the papers |
The pattern above is a starting point, not a rule. A Class 10 student who is comfortable in science may need only maths help; a +2 commerce student may need help only in accountancy.
Many Trichy +2 students in the science group also prepare for JEE or NEET. The board's practicals and theory papers sit in the middle of that preparation, so families should agree with the tutor in advance how much entrance work continues through the board season. Our JEE and NEET pages for Trichy cover that plan, including the choice of paper language for a Tamil-medium student. Families comparing boards before Class 11 can read our CBSE and ICSE and ISC pages for Trichy.
We first look for tutors in your own zone, so the weekly trip stays short. Six localities as examples:
For the SSLC, drawing work such as graphs, constructions and science diagrams is the strongest reason for a tutor who sits beside your child. At +2, many students mix a weekly home visit with a second session online. Families on the island or in the west can start from Srirangam and North Bank or Thillai Nagar, Woraiyur and Tennur. Every locality is on the Tiruchirappalli home tutors page, the Trichy home tuition guide covers timing in each zone, and online tutors for Trichy explains the online option.
You receive two or three matched tutors and see each fee before booking. The first lesson is free, and changing tutor later is free too. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID (how we check tutors). Our demo class checklist has more questions.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. For the State Board in Trichy, the class, the number of subjects, how often the tutor comes and how far they travel decide where a fee falls. The pricing guide and our post on home tuition fees in Tiruchirappalli explain more.
To begin, send the class, the +1 or +2 group if there is one, the medium, the subjects, your locality with a landmark and the times your child is free, then book a free demo. Anyone may look through tutor profiles first. Teachers who teach the state syllabus will find requests on Tiruchirappalli tuition jobs. Elsewhere in the state, see State Board tutors in Chennai.
A Trichy family gets matched with a Tamil Nadu State Board tutor by sending the class, medium, any +1 or +2 group, subjects, locality and free times. We return two or three matched tutors, each fee shown before the first class. The first lesson is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free.
The Tiruchirappalli regional office is one of seven through which the Directorate of Government Examinations runs SSLC and +2 logistics. These offices move examination-hall stationery, distribute money for running the examinations and pass mark certificates to students. A Trichy student's certificate therefore comes through an office in their own city.
The SSLC papers are grouped into four parts, and Trichy families most often want tuition for Part III: Mathematics, Science and Social Science. Part I is Tamil or another language, Part II is English, and Part IV an optional language. Maths and science are usually taught at home, with English often online.
On the Directorate's 2025-26 timetable, the Higher Secondary first-year examination was listed only for arrear candidates from 2018 to 2025. A Trichy family should ask the school how their child's batch is assessed in Class 11. Either way, teach the year thoroughly, because the +2 course builds straight on it.
For Trichy SSLC and +2 students, the Directorate lists March and June sessions, with practical examinations first and theory papers after. On each paper day, candidates get reading time and then write for three hours. Finish practical records before practicals begin, and check dates on dge.tn.gov.in, not forwarded messages.
A Tiruchirappalli student who fails an SSLC or +2 paper can sit the Directorate's special supplementary examinations without losing a year. Since the June and July round of 2012, students may appear whatever the number of failed subjects. The gap after results is short, so book tutor support for marked subjects immediately.
Yes, a Trichy State Board tutor can teach in Tamil medium; mention the medium in your request. The tutor may explain in whichever language helps, but written practice should use the terms of your child's own textbook in the examination medium. When switching to English medium in Class 11, build a two-language term list early.
Trichy parents should write the exact subject title when requesting a +1 or +2 tutor, because several State Board subjects sound alike. Business Mathematics and Statistics differs from the science group's Mathematics, and Computer Applications differs from Computer Science. Also say whether Botany and Zoology are separate or Biology is one subject.
The Directorate runs NMMS for Class 8 government and aided school students and TRUSTS for rural Class 9 children, both with income conditions. The National Talent Search Examination also appears among its functions. A Trichy maths tutor can fold reasoning practice into sessions, but it should not push out the school syllabus.
For the SSLC in Trichy, a home tutor is usually more useful, because graphs, constructions and science diagrams need someone beside your child. At +2, many students mix a weekly home visit with an online session. English reading and writing practice is often taught online at both levels.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. For the State Board in Tiruchirappalli, the class, number of subjects, visit frequency and travel distance decide where a fee falls.
Tell us the class, board and your area. We share two or three matched tutors, and the first class is a free demo.
