Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.
| Classes a week | Classes a month | At ₹800 an hour | At ₹2,500 an hour |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 8 | ₹6,400 a month | ₹20,000 a month |
| 3 | 12 | ₹9,600 a month | ₹30,000 a month |
In a coaching batch, one teacher's hour is shared by many students, so each family pays for a part of it. At home the whole hour is your child's: the pace, the questions and the homework check follow one student, and the tutor's travel to your home is part of the working day. A small group of two or three children from the same society usually costs less per child, with less individual attention.

Vadodara grows outward from its railway junction. On one side of the tracks lie the old-city streets of Raopura and the bus stand at Sayajigunj; on the other, the platform 6 exit opens towards Alkapuri and the newer city. North of the station, Fatehgunj, Nizampura and Sama run up towards Chhani; Harni, Ajwa Road and Waghodia Road carry the city east; Gotri, Akota and the long Vasna-Bhayli stretch fill the west; and Manjalpur, Makarpura and Tarsali make up the south. Children here sit the Gujarat board, CBSE, ICSE and ISC, and a smaller group follows IB or IGCSE, in Gujarati, English or a mix of both. Which side of the junction you live on, the board your child writes, and the hour that is really free after school are what decide the right tutor.
Everything begins with one request from you. Tell us the class, the board and the medium of study, the subjects where marks are slipping, your locality along with a landmark people recognise, the time slots left once school and any classes outside it are over, and whether lessons should be at home, on a video call or split between the two. We reply with two or three suitable tutors. You can read each tutor's fee before meeting anyone, and the first lesson with the tutor you choose is a free demo. In Vadodara, four things shape that shortlist:
Use the demo as a normal lesson on the chapter the class is studying that week. If it does not click, the next tutor on the shortlist is set up for you, and switching tutors later on costs nothing either.
The tutors listed for Vadodara are drawn from 1 tutor profile, and 20 Vadodara localities have a page of their own. Each page lists tutors who live in that locality first, then tutors who travel there, then the rest of the zone, then the wider city, and finally online tutors. For planning home lessons we group the city into five zones, starting at the junction and moving clockwise: Central Vadodara, North Vadodara, East Vadodara, South Vadodara and West Vadodara. These are our own planning groups. The municipal corporation also runs north, east, west and south zone ward offices, and our zones follow roughly the same compass points, but they are not the official ward boundaries.
Sayajigunj is often called the gateway to the city, because Vadodara Junction and the Central Bus Stand both stand here; the bus stand is reached from platform 1. It is busy with offices, hotels, banks and restaurants, its homes are mostly flats in older buildings, and a large university campus nearby gives it a student crowd. Across the tracks, Alkapuri lies on the western side of the junction, where the platform 6 exit opens; apartment buildings dominate, with some builder floors, houses and villas, all set among offices, shops and showrooms. Raopura is one of the old-city shopping localities, with large and small shops, the historic clock tower and Kothi Kacheri, the building that houses the district collectorate.
The station itself was first built in 1861 and rebuilt in 1954, and it remains a major stop on the Western Railway main line, so a tutor arriving from another town by train can reach this zone more easily than any other. City buses and autos fan out from the bus stand. Commercial streets stay crowded from late morning into the evening, and parking near shops is limited, so a tutor on a two-wheeler needs a known spot to leave it. In Raopura, the clock tower or Kothi Kacheri is the landmark to give for a first visit.
Fatehgunj sits next to Sayajigunj near the same university campus, so students fill its flats and houses and keep the rental market active. Karelibaug was among the first neighbourhoods built outside the old city and is now one of the most settled, with flats and independent houses, while New Karelibaug adds newer apartments, villas and builder floors near VIP Road and Harni Road. Nizampura is a residential hub of two- and three-bedroom flats between Fatehgunj and the Sama side. Sama and New Sama, with the Sama-Savli Road stretch, is a large belt of apartment complexes, villas and houses, and Gorwa, on the north-western edge, was a village until the late 1980s and grew with industry; it has an industrial estate, housing board colonies and a large, long-running vegetable market.
Chhani, Vemali and Gorva joined the municipal area in 2017, and Chhayapuri railway station near Chhani Toll Naka opened on 14 December 2019 as a satellite station for Vadodara on the New Delhi–Mumbai main line. Most tutors in this zone still ride over from a neighbouring locality. Sama-Savli Road and the roads into Fatehgunj are the slow ones in the evening, so families further up Sama often prefer an earlier slot. In Gorwa's colonies, give the block and house number clearly, because lanes can look alike.
Harni, a suburb in the north-east, is widely known as the home of Vadodara Airport, whose new terminal opened on 22 October 2016. Its homes include apartments, independent houses, builder floors and villas, some in gated communities and some standing alone, and Harni Road links it back to Karelibaug. Ajwa Road is lined with residential neighbourhoods of houses and flats, with newer projects of one to four bedrooms, villas and builder floors. Waghodia Road is one of the main growth corridors on this side, with apartment projects, villa communities, studio flats and plots, and neighbourhoods such as Bapod and Tilak Nagar along it; Bapod came into the municipal limits in 2017.
The corporation runs east zone ward offices on Harni-Warasia Road, at Navjivan on Ajwa Road and on Waghodia Road. For tuition, the useful point is that this zone faces east: a tutor who lives around Karelibaug, Harni or Ajwa Road can cover it, while one from the western suburbs has to cross the whole city. Both long roads fill up as people head home in the evening. Waghodia Road is long enough that a society name alone may not be enough, so always send a map pin.
Manjalpur is a well-established residential locality near Manjalpur Naka, Lalbaug and Navapura, with flats, villas and houses; for much of it the nearest rail halt is Vishvamitri station, once known as Goya Gate. Makarpura combines homes, mainly apartments with some bungalows, with the Makarpura GIDC industrial estate, one of the city's main industrial zones, and has its own railway station and bus station. Tarsali, a former village on the southern edge, has grown into a stretch of apartments, villas, houses and plots, much of it along the Tarsali bypass. Pratapnagar, on the Danteshwar side, is known for its station on the Vadodara–Chhota Udaipur line and the railway workshop beside it, which has maintained coaches and wagons since 1922.
Makarpura station sits on the New Delhi–Mumbai and Ahmedabad–Mumbai main lines and is served by passenger and MEMU trains, so a tutor who uses local trains can step off there and take an auto for the last part. The roads around the industrial estate are busiest at shift changes, and Soma Talav and Dabhoi Road get heavy in the evening. In Tarsali, new societies may not show clearly on maps yet; in Pratapnagar, say which side of the station you live on.
Gotri is a large suburb of apartment complexes with two to four bedrooms and some villas, settled local markets and many new projects; Gotri Road leads from it towards the junction. Subhanpura lies between Gotri and the Race Course area, with flats, villas, houses and builder floors. Akota, once a separate settlement and now a suburb, mixes apartments, houses, builder floors and villas with plots and office space, and Kalali lies to its south-west along the Vishwamitri river. Old Padra Road is a corridor of three- and four-bedroom apartment complexes and some villas beside Akota and Vasna Road. Vasna-Bhayli Road and Bhayli is among the newest residential stretches on the western edge, mostly apartment complexes of two to six bedrooms, with villas, houses and plots further out.
West zone ward offices sit at Subhanpura, Gotri, Gotri-Bhayli Road, Vasna Road and Akota, and Bhayli and Sevasi were among the villages given notice in 2020 for inclusion in the city. This is the most gated part of Vadodara: a tutor's visit usually means a guard's register, a lift and a tower number. Public transport thins out along parts of the Bhayli side, so most tutors here ride two-wheelers, and Gotri Road and Old Padra Road are the evening bottlenecks.
Four kinds of syllabus run side by side in Vadodara: the Gujarat state board, CBSE, CISCE (ICSE up to Class 10, ISC after it), and the international programmes, IB and Cambridge IGCSE. Teaching one well says little about teaching another, which is why a request always names the board, the class and the medium together.
The state board's official name is the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB), though almost everyone calls it GSEB; it is based in Gandhinagar. It conducts the SSC examination at Standard 10 and the HSC examination at Standard 12, with HSC offered in Science and General streams, and it also conducts GUJCET. The board publishes subject-wise question banks for Standards 9 to 12 on its question bank portal, which a tutor should use alongside the prescribed textbooks. Patterns, timetables and results change, so read them only on gseb.org. See also Gujarat board tutors in Vadodara.
| Board | What a Vadodara tutor should bring | Common weak spot |
|---|---|---|
| CBSE | Close command of the NCERT books, since the papers are written from them, plus practice on questions that put a familiar idea into an unfamiliar setting. | Students drilled on objective entrance questions often lose marks by skipping steps in long written answers. |
| ICSE (Class 10) and ISC (Class 12) | A plan that reaches every chapter of a wide syllabus, regular timed writing, and attention to English literature texts and each subject's project work. | Running out of time before the last chapters, and answers that are long but not precise. |
| IB Diploma | Familiarity with coursework as well as exams. A tutor can advise on an Internal Assessment or Extended Essay; the student must write it. | Coursework deadlines bunching up with exam revision. |
| Cambridge IGCSE | Plenty of past papers, marked against the official mark scheme so the student learns what earns credit. | Knowing the content but not the wording examiners reward. |
IB and IGCSE families, many of whom have moved to Vadodara for work, usually reach the closest specialist through online lessons, while GSEB, CBSE and ICSE students more often find a home tutor within their own zone.
Primary years (Classes 1 to 5). Reading with ease, number sense and the habit of finishing written work matter more than racing ahead. Where the family speaks Gujarati and the school teaches in English, or the other way round, a short spell of reading aloud in each lesson does more than an extra worksheet.
Middle school (Classes 6 to 8). Fractions, algebra and the first real science chapters arrive here. Before any early entrance course, a tutor should confirm that school maths up to Class 8 rests on understanding, not memory.
Secondary (Classes 9 and 10). Both Maths and Science step up in Class 9, and many students also start outside classes that year. The tutor's task is to stop the school syllabus slipping so that the SSC or Class 10 board year is not a rush. GSEB students can work through the board's own question banks for Standards 9 and 10; CBSE students can use our plan for Class 10 Maths and the Science notes for Class 10, both arranged chapter by chapter.
Senior secondary (Classes 11 and 12). The jump into Class 11 is the biggest of the school years, and much of what entrance papers test is first taught there. A weak base in Class 11 Physics or Maths is hard to repair a year later, so a separate specialist for each demanding subject is usually money well spent. For the board year, whether HSC Science, CBSE or ISC, see our approach to Class 12 Physics.
Requests usually begin with Mathematics and Science around Class 8 or 9, then split into Physics, Chemistry and Biology from Class 11. Tutors on NXTutors cover English, Gujarati, Hindi, Sanskrit, Social Science, Computer Science, Accountancy, Economics and Statistics as well, and many teach the full timetable to primary children. The city has dedicated pages for maths tutors at home, science tutors for middle and secondary classes, physics tutors and chemistry tutors.
A good Maths tutor traces a mistake back to the year it started rather than reteaching this week's exercise. A good Physics tutor starts from the situation and lets the formula follow. Chemistry mixes three skills, numerical practice in Physical, pattern-spotting in Organic and attentive reading in Inorganic, which our article on Class 12 Organic and Inorganic Chemistry unpacks. When a student moves from Gujarati-medium study to English-medium textbooks at Class 11, the tutor should teach each technical term in both languages at first and phase out the Gujarati as confidence grows; the spoken English practice guide helps on the days in between.
It can, as long as the tutor works with the student's school and any entrance classes rather than duplicating them. Vadodara adds a wrinkle: a GSEB Science student may sit GUJCET, which the Gujarat board conducts, as well as JEE Main or NEET UG, and the same Class 12 chapters feed all of them. The tutor's hours count most when they go to:
JEE Main is run by NTA in two sessions during the first half of the year, and those who qualify can attempt JEE Advanced. NEET UG comes once a year, and half its marks are Biology, which makes careful line-by-line reading of NCERT Biology essential. Every date and pattern, GUJCET's included, should come from the official notice for that year. Before the first lesson, a new tutor may find it useful to read our chapter plans for JEE Maths, JEE Physics and JEE Chemistry, along with the NCERT-first method for NEET Biology.
Home lessons are the better fit for younger children, for students who drift when the camera is on, and for subjects where the teacher needs to watch the pencil, such as Maths and Physics problems. Online lessons widen the pool to tutors anywhere in India, which matters most for IB, IGCSE, ISC electives and the harder end of entrance preparation. Local travel tips the balance:
A common pattern is two or three lessons at the table each week and a short video session before a test. Compare online tutors for Vadodara students, and read our comparison of home and online tutoring for the pros and cons.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.
Tutors fix their own rates, so two quotes for the same subject can differ. Senior classes usually cost more than junior ones, and entrance-level work more than school-level help. Travel can matter too: a tutor riding from Bhayli to Harni may count the journey, while one from your own zone usually will not. And the shape of the week counts, since two longer lessons often achieve more than four short ones.
Spend on the subject that is actually slipping, rather than spreading the same amount across several. Before you agree, ask how long a lesson lasts, whether test practice is included, and how a missed lesson is handled. You see each suggested tutor's fee before booking a demo, and nobody above your stated budget is put forward. Class-wise and subject-wise figures are in the pricing guide, and our article on home tuition fees in Vadodara looks at the city in more detail.
The profile explains why a tutor was suggested. The demo hour is where you find out whether to continue. Six things are worth noticing:
If you live in a gated complex, pass the tutor's name and your tower and flat number to the security desk ahead of time; for a house, share the street, a nearby landmark and a location pin. Hold lessons in a common room while a parent or another adult is at home. Our checklist for the demo class and the guide on picking a board and stream add more.
The CBSE session starts in April. GSEB and CISCE schools set out their own calendars, so keep your school's copy to hand. A board or entrance year breaks naturally into these blocks:
Beginning in April leaves room for steady work; starting later in the year is still worthwhile, with more weight on past papers and timing.
Send one message with the class, board, medium, subjects, locality and landmark, and the times your child is free. You receive two or three tutor suggestions, book a free demo with the one you prefer, and decide once you have seen them teach. You can start from your own locality in the list on this page, look through tutor profiles across India, or go straight to booking a free demo class. Where no home tutor is close enough yet, an online tutor can begin without waiting.
