Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

English means different things to different Vadodara families. For one child it is a board paper where literature answers come out thin; for another, it is the language of every other subject after a move from a Gujarati-medium school; for a third, it is the confidence to speak up in class or at an interview. Before we suggest anyone, we ask three things: which board your child sits (GSEB, CBSE, ICSE or ISC, or an international course), which skill is weakest, and where you live. Then we send two or three English tutors who fit, each with a fee shown, and the first lesson with the one you pick is a free demo.
The subject has the same name everywhere, but the papers behind it are not alike. A tutor should know which one your child faces before planning a single lesson.
| Board | Lower secondary | Senior secondary | Material to work from |
|---|---|---|---|
| GSEB | SSC English, at the end of Standard 10 | HSC English, at the end of Standard 12 | State textbooks; the board's question bank; its earlier and model papers |
| CBSE | Language and Literature (184): a board paper of 80, with 20 more decided in school | English Core (301): the same 80 and 20, the 20 covering listening, speaking and a project | The NCERT readers; CBSE's own sample papers |
| CISCE | ICSE: separate papers for language and for literature, each out of 80, plus internal marks | ISC: a pair of 80-mark papers, each carrying project work | Prescribed texts; specimen papers from cisce.org |
| Cambridge; IB | IGCSE English as a First Language (0500) or a Second Language (0510/0511) | IB Language A: analysing unseen texts, a comparative essay, and an oral done one to one | Earlier papers; the tier or level the school enters |
CBSE's 2026-27 scheme gives the board paper three blocks. Once a tutor knows them, lessons stop chasing whichever chapter school reached that week and start following the marks:
Half of the paper, drawn from First Flight and Footprints without Feet. Marks go to answers that stay on the question, use a detail from the text and respect the word limit. A child who knows the story but writes vaguely loses most here.
Two unseen passages: one discursive, one factual and case-based with a chart or data. Weekly timed practice helps, with each answer justified by pointing to the line it came from.
Grammar items from the syllabus list carry 10. Writing carries the other 10: a formal letter (5) and an analytical paragraph built on a chart, map or graph (5). Formats are learned once; content improves only with regular marked drafts.
Besides the 80, the school awards 20 internal marks, and 5 of those are for listening and speaking. For most students, a pair of marked literature answers each week moves the score more than extra grammar sheets do.
The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, based in Gandhinagar, conducts the SSC examination in Standard 10 and the HSC examinations in Standard 12, and it sets its own English syllabus and papers. We keep our advice on those papers general and do not describe a pattern. A tutor for a GSEB student should work from the state textbook, practise from the board's question bank and its past and model papers on gsebeservice.com, and take any format or date only from the board's official sites, since they can change. Our Gujarat Board tutor page for Vadodara covers SSC and HSC preparation across subjects.
The switch is hardest in the first term, when a child understands the lesson in Gujarati but has to answer in English. The tutor to look for can explain in both languages at first and then deliberately uses less Gujarati each month. Progress usually comes from a few steady routines rather than a grammar course:
Students who already read their textbooks in English but think in another language at home can use the same routines.
It is, and it fits inside exam work rather than competing with it: CBSE, ICSE and ISC all mark listening and speaking. Ending each lesson with your child explaining the day's passage aloud, then building up to short prepared talks and unprepared questions, trains the same skills an oral assessment checks. Where speaking for interviews or class discussion is the real aim, put that first in your request; it changes who we suggest. More ideas are in our guide to spoken English for students.
Here the goal is fluent reading, and exam technique can wait. Signs that help is needed include guessing at words, skipping lines or avoiding books altogether. The remedy is little and often: decoding new words sound by sound, reading aloud with gentle correction, and telling the story back in the child's own words. A short lesson with full attention beats a long, tiring one. If English is rarely heard at home, choose a tutor who chats about pictures and stories in simple English and falls back on the home language only when the child is stuck. A primary specialist suits this age better than a senior-class teacher.
CBSE English Core puts 31 marks on literature (from Hornbill and Snapshots), 26 on reading and 23 on grammar and creative writing in Class 11; Class 12 removes grammar and gives literature a larger share. ISC English has a composition of 400 to 450 words picked from six topics, plus directed writing and a proposal, and a literature paper of its own. With IGCSE, check whether the entry is First or Second Language; with the IB, prepare for unseen-text analysis and an individual oral. Tutors for these courses are scarcer, and an online lesson often solves that. Our national English home tutor guide goes deeper into each course.
Most tutors travel by two-wheeler or auto, and city buses leave from the Central Bus Stand in Sayajigunj. The most practical match is often someone from your own part of the city. Our Vadodara home tuition page covers every locality.
Sayajigunj is the city's transport hub, with Vadodara Junction and the Central Bus Stand, so tutors from almost anywhere can get there. Homes are mainly flats in older buildings; if there is no guard, give clear directions to the entrance and floor. Raopura, a busy shopping area, is easiest earlier in the day or at a weekend; Kothi Kacheri and the clock tower make good first landmarks.
Nizampura, between Fatehgunj and Sama, is mostly two- and three-bedroom flats; put the tutor on the society's visitor list. Sama and New Sama spread along Sama-Savli Road in apartment complexes, villas and houses, and families further out often prefer an earlier evening slot. In Gorwa, send the block and house number for the housing board lanes and say which side of the vegetable market you are on.
Harni has gated flats and standalone houses, and Harni Road links it with Karelibaug. For a gated community, give the guard the tutor's name and tower number before the demo. If you want a specialist for a particular board, a nearby tutor can be paired with online sessions.
The Central Vadodara and North Vadodara zone pages add local landmarks, and the Vadodara home tuition guide compares all five parts of the city.
From roughly Class 3, online English can work just as well as a visit, provided the tutor sees the written work beforehand, through a photo of the notebook or a shared document. It is also how a family reaches an ISC, IGCSE or IB specialist who does not live nearby. Lessons at home make more sense for a young child still learning to read, for the early months after a change of medium, and for a quiet speaker who opens up in person. If the right tutor lives on the far side of the city, alternating a home visit with an online lesson each week means fewer evening crossings of the railway line or trips along Sama-Savli Road.
If too many answers are no, let us know: the next tutor on your shortlist gives a demo instead, and any later switch is free.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fees, which follow the class, the board, the tutor's experience with its paper, travel at your chosen hour and how often you meet. Each fee is on the shortlist before the demo; the Vadodara home tuition fees article explains more.
Tell us the class and board, the part of English that worries you most (reading, writing, grammar, literature or speaking), which language your child finds easiest, your locality and a landmark, the days and times that work, and a budget. You get two or three matched tutors with fees. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID (see how we check tutors). Other subjects have their own pages: maths and science tutors in Vadodara. English teachers living in the city can look for open requests on Vadodara tuition jobs.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each Vadodara English tutor sets their own fee by class, board, travel and frequency, and every fee is on the shortlist before the demo.
Yes, a Vadodara English tutor can prepare a GSEB student by teaching from the state textbook and the board's question bank. Practice should also use the board's past and model papers on gsebeservice.com. The board sets its own syllabus and can change it, so take any format or date only from its official sites.
A Vadodara English tutor eases the move by explaining in Gujarati at first, then using less Gujarati each month. Steady routines help most: two-way translation of a few lines, a daily English reading log, practised sentence starters for letters and answers, and an agreed date after which lessons run only in English.
For a Vadodara student, the CBSE Class 10 English board paper gives 40 marks to literature, 20 to reading and 20 to writing and grammar. Literature comes from First Flight and Footprints without Feet. The school adds 20 internal marks, 5 of them for listening and speaking, so weekly marked literature answers pay off.
Yes, an English home tutor in Vadodara can build spoken confidence inside board work, since CBSE, ICSE and ISC all mark listening and speaking. Lessons can end with your child explaining the day's passage aloud, building towards prepared talks and unprepared questions. If interviews or class discussion are the main aim, say so first.
In Vadodara, Class 11 and 12 English tuition shifts to course-specific papers: CBSE English Core gives Class 11 literature 31 marks, reading 26 and grammar with creative writing 23. ISC adds a 400 to 450 word composition and a separate literature paper. IB students prepare unseen-text analysis and an individual oral, often with an online tutor.
For Vadodara children in Classes 1 to 5, an English tutor should focus on fluent reading rather than exam technique. Lessons are short and frequent: sounding out new words, reading aloud with gentle correction and retelling the story. A primary specialist suits this age better than a senior-class teacher, especially when English is rarely heard at home.
Yes, English tutors in Vadodara reach Sayajigunj, Raopura, Sama and Harni, usually by two-wheeler or auto. Sayajigunj is easy to reach from the station and Central Bus Stand, while Raopura's market streets suit an earlier or weekend slot. In gated Harni or Sama societies, give the guard the tutor's name before the demo.
Online English suits most Vadodara children from about Class 3, as long as the tutor sees written work beforehand. Home lessons suit young readers, the first months after a medium change and quiet speakers. When the right tutor lives across the city, alternating home and online weeks saves evening trips across the railway line.
A Vadodara parent should judge an English tutor by whether they read a marked school answer before teaching. Also check that your child followed comfortably, produced a paragraph or spoke at length, and that the tutor knew the GSEB, CBSE or CISCE paper. Marked homework and a plan for the next few weeks are good signs.
After a Vadodara family asks, we send two or three matched English tutors, each fee shown before the first class. Share the class, board, weakest skill, easiest language, locality, landmark and times. The first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free. Tutors who join go through an ID check.
