What home tuition costs in Prayagraj

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.

Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Example only, not a quote: one subject, one-hour classes, 4 weeks a month. Your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.
Classes a week Classes a month At ₹800 an hour At ₹2,500 an hour
2 8 ₹6,400 a month ₹20,000 a month
3 12 ₹9,600 a month ₹30,000 a month

Why one-to-one home tuition costs more than group coaching

In a coaching batch, one teacher's hour is shared by many students, so each family pays for a part of it. At home the whole hour is your child's: the pace, the questions and the homework check follow one student, and the tutor's travel to your home is part of the working day. A small group of two or three children from the same society usually costs less per child, with less individual attention.

Home tuition in Prayagraj (Allahabad): a parent's guide from Phaphamau to Naini

Prayagraj (Allahabad) makes most sense to a newcomer as a city divided twice. First, an east–west railway line runs through the middle of it. North of the tracks is the New City, with the straight streets of Civil Lines, George Town and Tagore Town; south of them are the older lanes around Chowk and its clock tower. Then come the rivers. The Yamuna keeps Naini apart from the main city, the Ganga does the same for Jhunsi, and Phaphamau sits on the Ganga's bank at the northern edge, along the Lucknow highway. Out to the west, the planned colonies of Kareli give way to Dhoomanganj, Kalindipuram and the open ground near Bamrauli. When you look for a tutor, these lines matter most: someone from your side of the tracks, or your bank of the river, keeps arriving on time.

How does NXTutors find a tutor for a Prayagraj family?

It begins with a single request. Tell us your child's class and board, whether they study in Hindi or English medium, which subjects are causing trouble, your locality with a landmark a stranger could find, the free hours in your week, and whether lessons should happen at home, online or both. Mention a budget as well. We reply with two or three suitable tutors and show each one's fee before anything is fixed. The first class with the tutor you pick is a free demo. In Prayagraj, four questions shape that shortlist more than any others:

  • Which side of the railway line? Prayagraj Junction has a Civil Lines entrance to the north and a City entrance to the south, and the roads linking the two halves fill up through the evening. We look first for tutors who live on your side.
  • Which bank of the river? Families in Naini, Jhunsi and Phaphamau usually do well with a tutor who already lives across the water with them, since a daily bridge crossing at peak hours makes a fixed slot hard to keep.
  • Hindi or English medium? A UP Board student writing answers in Hindi and a CBSE or ICSE student working in English each need someone who explains naturally in that language.
  • A guard, a lane or a colony block? Flats in Civil Lines and Kalindipuram usually have a guard at the gate, the old city has narrow lanes tucked behind markets, and Kareli and Mumfordganj are colony layouts run on block and house numbers. Each calls for different directions on day one.

Treat the demo as an ordinary lesson on this week's chapter. If it does not work, we suggest someone else from the shortlist, and changing tutor later is free as well.

Prayagraj in five zones

Tutors shown for Prayagraj come from 1 tutor profile, and 20 Prayagraj localities have a page of their own. On every locality page, tutors who live in that locality are listed first, then tutors from elsewhere in its zone, then the rest of the city, and finally tutors who teach online. To plan home visits we have split the city into five zones, working outwards from the centre: Civil Lines and Central, Katra and Allahpur, Chowk and Old City, West Prayagraj and Naini, Jhunsi and Phaphamau. These are our own groupings for tutor travel, not wards.

Civil Lines and Central: the grid north of the station

Civil Lines was laid out in 1857–58 on a gridiron of straight roads and remains the city's central business district, so offices, shops, cafes and cinemas stand among homes that are now mostly apartment buildings. The northern entrance of Prayagraj Junction opens directly onto it. George Town, established in 1901, lies just to the north, with older houses, newer flats and a local name for its many clinics and doctors' practices. Tagore Town, built in 1909, borders George Town on the west and is known among residents for its parks. Ashok Nagar, another New City neighbourhood, pairs two- and three-bedroom flats with independent houses, and has North Malaka and Vivek Vihar Colony close by.

The grid is this zone's gift to a visiting tutor. Straight roads make directions easy, autos run along the main streets, and anyone living in Katra or Allahpur is only a short ride away. Since most homes are flats, send the building name, block and floor, and give the guard the tutor's name before the first class. Parking is tight on the shopping streets, which are busiest after dark, so an early-evening or weekend-morning slot holds better.

Katra and Allahpur: a bazaar and the colonies around it

Katra is one of the city's major market areas, its bazaar spread across Old Katra, New Katra and Katra Extension. Shops line the main lanes while homes, from older houses to newer flats, fill the streets behind them, and New Katra is the most residential pocket. Allahpur, a township with the PIN code 211006, lies between Tagore Town and Daraganj and has markets and parks of its own, with houses along residential lanes and a rising number of apartment blocks. Mumfordganj was built in the late 1930s as planned colonies of independent houses and has since added apartment buildings; Allen Ganj, Darbhanga Colony and Govindpur are among its neighbours.

All three sit beside Civil Lines, George Town and Tagore Town, so a wide circle of tutors can reach them by two-wheeler or auto. The bazaar is the complication. Katra's lanes are packed in the evening and parking near the shops is scarce, so ask the tutor to come in along a residential street and describe a landmark at your gate rather than a shop sign. In Mumfordganj the block and house number usually settle the address. In Allahpur, say whether you live in a house or a flat, and whether visitors sign a register at the gate.

Chowk and Old City: south of the tracks

The old city lies south of the railway line. Chowk is its centre, where the Ghantaghar clock tower, built in 1913, rises over a busy, long-established bazaar; homes here are mostly older houses packed into narrow lanes behind the shops. Johnstonganj, next to Chowk and near both the station's city-side entrance and the city bus stand, mixes flats, builder floors and houses. Lukerganj, south-west of the Junction, dates from 1906 and keeps some large old bungalows among newer flats and villas. Dariyabad has older houses on narrow lanes alongside newer apartment buildings, and Rambagh has grown up around Prayagraj Rambagh station, also called Allahabad City station, whose seven platforms serve the line to Mau and Gorakhpur.

Here the lane matters more than the locality name. Autos and rickshaws are the normal way in, a car is hard to park near any market, and a tutor on a first visit can easily miss the right turning. Give the clock tower, Rambagh station or a well-known shop on the main road as the starting point, then the lane name, or simply share a map pin. Rambagh's trains and the Junction's city entrance help a tutor coming from further away. Market hours slow the evenings, so a slot straight after school or on a Sunday morning tends to stick.

West Prayagraj: planned colonies towards Bamrauli

Kareli was developed by the state housing board in 1979 as a large planned colony of independent houses on plotted layouts, its lanes divided into several smaller named neighbourhoods. Dhoomanganj, PIN code 211011, combines houses with apartment buildings of two, three and four bedrooms, and new projects keep arriving; Preetam Nagar and Sulem Sarai are next door. Rajrooppur and Kalindipuram share the PIN code 211015: Rajrooppur is houses and flats between the older western colonies and the newer ground beyond, while Kalindipuram is mostly apartment buildings with some villas. Jhalwa, on the western edge near Bamrauli and the airport, is still filling in with residential plots and independent houses.

Distances open up in the west, which makes it two-wheeler country. Subedarganj station, with six platforms, is the closest stop for a tutor arriving by train, and an auto or e-rickshaw covers the last stretch. Kareli's colony lanes are simple once the block and house number are known, and most visits are door to door. In Kalindipuram and the newer buildings of Dhoomanganj, register the tutor at the gate before the first lesson. Jhalwa's homes can be spread out, so a precise map pin spares everyone a search.

Naini, Jhunsi and Phaphamau: across the rivers

Naini lies across the Yamuna from the main city and had become Prayagraj's chief industrial area by the 1950s; factories and industrial estates sit beside residential colonies of houses and flats. Two bridges connect it with the city: the double-deck Old Naini Bridge, with rail on top and road below, and the cable-stayed New Yamuna Bridge, opened in 2004. Naini Junction and Cheoki stations serve the area. Jhunsi, also written Jhusi, is on the far bank of the Ganga and came under the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation on 1 January 2020; it has houses, plots, apartments and development-authority colonies, and a bus depot of its own. Phaphamau, at the northern edge, stretches along both sides of the Prayagraj–Lucknow highway on the bank of the Ganga, with its own railway station and colonies such as Gaddopur and Shantipuram.

For tuition, each of the three works almost like a separate town. A tutor who lives on the same bank is nearly always the better choice, because the bridges are slowest in the morning and evening and a daily crossing makes the same slot hard to hold week after week. So we start with tutors living in Naini, Jhunsi or Phaphamau and the colonies around them. When a subject needs a specialist from the main city, split the work: home lessons with a local tutor for everyday schoolwork, and an online tutor for the specialist hours.

How do you give a tutor directions in Prayagraj?

What a tutor needs on day one depends on the kind of street you live on:

  • Grid streets (Civil Lines, George Town, Tagore Town). Name the road and the nearest crossing; the straight layout does the rest. Add the building, block and floor for a flat.
  • Colony layouts (Kareli, Mumfordganj, Allahpur). The block and house number, plus the colony's name, are usually enough. Mention a park or a corner shop as a back-up.
  • Old-city lanes (Chowk, Dariyabad, Johnstonganj). Start from a landmark everyone knows, such as the clock tower or the bus stand, then the lane name. A map pin is the surest option.
  • Newer western ground (Jhalwa, Kalindipuram, Rajrooppur). Plots and new buildings can look alike, so share a location pin and the nearest main-road turning.
  • Across the rivers (Naini, Jhunsi, Phaphamau). Say which bridge or highway point the tutor should use and which station is nearest if they come by train.

Which boards do tutors in Prayagraj teach?

Students here sit the UP Board, CBSE, CISCE (ICSE and ISC) and, in smaller numbers, IB or Cambridge IGCSE. Every board sets and marks its papers in its own way, so a tutor is matched on board and class together, not on the subject alone.

UP Board (UPMSP)

The UP Board has its home in this city. Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, Uttar Pradesh was set up in 1921 at Prayagraj by an act of the United Provinces Legislative Council, and its official name, Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, Uttar Pradesh, Prayagraj, reflects where its headquarters is. It conducts the High School examination, taken after ten years of schooling, and the Intermediate examination at the end of the 10+2 stage. A UP Board tutor should teach in the medium the student writes in and work from the books the school uses; for syllabus updates, dates and notices, rely only on upmsp.edu.in. Our UP Board tutors in Prayagraj page goes further.

CBSE

CBSE papers rest on the NCERT textbooks, with a growing share of questions that check whether a student can apply a concept rather than repeat it. A useful tutor mixes the book's exercises with unfamiliar problems and has the student write full, step-by-step answers, since steps carry marks.

ICSE and ISC

CISCE runs the ICSE in Class 10 and the ISC in Class 12. Both cover a wide syllabus, reward long and carefully worded answers, and include prescribed English literature texts. Choose a tutor who spaces revision across the year and keeps project and practical work from bunching up before the exams.

IB and IGCSE

Few Prayagraj students take the IB or Cambridge IGCSE, so the specialist is usually found online. An IB tutor can guide an Internal Assessment or Extended Essay but must not write it; IGCSE students gain most from timed past papers checked against the published mark scheme.

What should tuition achieve at each stage?

Classes 1 to 8

Before Class 9, aim for three things: a child who reads fluently, does arithmetic without slips and finishes written work neatly. Where Hindi is spoken at home and the school books are in English, a little reading aloud in every lesson builds both languages. Olympiad and entrance foundation work can wait until Class 8 maths feels solid.

Classes 9 and 10

Maths and Science get noticeably harder in Class 9, and plenty of students join a coaching batch the same year. The tutor's task is to keep schoolwork moving so the High School or Class 10 board year opens without a backlog. Our Class 10 Maths preparation plan and Class 10 Science notes follow NCERT; UP Board students should line them up with the books their school uses.

Classes 11 and 12

Class 11 is the biggest step up in school, and much of the JEE and NEET syllabus starts there. A weak chapter left behind in Class 11 rarely repairs itself, so one tutor for each difficult subject often helps more than one tutor for everything. For the Intermediate or Class 12 year, see our guides to Class 12 calculus and algebra and Class 12 Physics.

Which subjects can a Prayagraj tutor cover?

Maths and the three sciences are the usual focus from Class 9, but tutors on NXTutors also teach English, Hindi, Social Science, Computer Science, Accountancy, Economics and Business Studies, and many take every subject for younger children. Prayagraj has dedicated pages for maths home tutors, science home tutors, physics home tutors and chemistry home tutors.

In Maths, the useful tutor works backwards from a mistake to the earliest topic that never settled, even if it belongs to Class 7. Physics improves once the student can say in plain words what is happening before reaching for an equation. Chemistry splits three ways: numerical problems, the logic of reactions in Organic, and straightforward recall in Inorganic; our guide to Class 12 Organic and Inorganic Chemistry shows how to divide the hours. A student moving from Hindi-medium to English-medium books needs a tutor who first gives each technical term in both languages and then lets the Hindi fall away; our spoken English guide for students adds practice between lessons.

Can a home tutor support JEE or NEET preparation in Prayagraj?

Yes, provided the tutor has a defined role. Most students already have school and often a coaching batch, so the tutor fills the gaps those leave rather than running a third full course:

  • Weekly clean-up. Work through the coaching sheet, the errors in the last test and any chapter left half-done, before the batch races ahead.
  • One plan for two exams. The NCERT books for Classes 11 and 12 underpin both the board papers and the entrance syllabus, so revision can be planned once.
  • Weakest subject first. Spend the extra hours where marks are being lost, not spread evenly across all three subjects.
  • A protected slot. Early morning, late evening or a weekend block, fixed once so it never clashes with the batch.

NTA conducts JEE Main in two sessions in the first half of the year, and those who qualify can attempt JEE Advanced. NEET UG takes place once a year, with Biology making up half the paper, so the NCERT Biology books need reading line by line. Take every date from that year's official information bulletin. Worth sharing with a tutor: our topic plans for JEE Maths, JEE Physics and JEE Chemistry, and the NCERT-first plan for NEET Biology. Our articles weighing coaching against a home tutor for JEE and for NEET were written for Gurugram families, yet the reasoning carries over to Prayagraj unchanged.

Should lessons be at home or online in Prayagraj?

A tutor sitting beside your child suits younger students, children who drift on a screen, and subjects where the written working is everything, such as Maths and Physics numericals. Online tutoring brings in specialists from anywhere in India, which matters most for IB, IGCSE, ISC electives and the hardest entrance problems. In Prayagraj a few local factors tip the decision:

  • The bridges. For Naini, Jhunsi and Phaphamau, a tutor from the main city has to cross the Yamuna or the Ganga at the busiest hours; an online lesson removes the crossing.
  • The railway line. Evening traffic between the Civil Lines side and the City side can make a cross-town tutor unreliable for a fixed weekday slot.
  • Bazaar evenings. Around Katra, Chowk and Johnstonganj, homes near the markets are hardest to reach after dark.
  • The weather. Very hot afternoons, heavy monsoon rain and cold winter evenings are when a pre-agreed online lesson keeps the week intact.

Many families mix the two, with home lessons in the week and a short online session before a test. Our comparison of home and online tutors goes through the trade-offs.

How much do home tutors charge in Prayagraj?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Every tutor sets their own fee, and these are the things that usually move it:

  • The class. An hour with a primary-school child generally costs less than an hour of Intermediate or Class 12 work.
  • The goal. Board-level Physics and entrance-level Physics are priced differently, even by the same tutor.
  • The journey. A tutor crossing a bridge or the railway line may build the trip into the fee; one from your own colony often does not.
  • Length and frequency. Fewer, longer sessions can give more real teaching time than many short ones.

Before you decide, ask how long each session runs, how many sessions a week the tutor recommends, and whether a short online check-in before tests is part of the fee or charged on top. You see each shortlisted tutor's fee before the demo. The pricing guide sets out fees by class and subject, and our post on home tuition fees in Prayagraj looks at the city in more detail.

What should you watch for in the free demo?

A profile earns a tutor a place on the shortlist; the demo shows whether they belong in your home. Check these:

  1. Did they ask first? A good tutor asks about school timings, coaching and the next test before teaching anything.
  2. Did they find the starting point? Look for a quick check of what your child already knows, not a lecture from page one.
  3. Was the language right? Your child should follow easily, whether the tutor uses Hindi, English or a mix.
  4. Do they know the board? Ask how this year's UP Board, CBSE or CISCE paper is laid out; a confident answer beats a guess.
  5. Who did the work? Your child should be solving questions during the hour, not only listening.
  6. Will the slot last? Can the tutor reach you at the same time every week, bridge or railway crossing included?

For a flat, give the guard the tutor's name before the demo; for a house, send the lane, a landmark and a map pin. We ask a parent to be at home for the demo, and regular lessons work well in a shared room. Tutors who join NXTutors go through an ID check, and you can read how that review works. Our demo class checklist for parents has more questions to ask, and our guide to choosing a board and stream helps before Class 11.

When is the right time in the school year to start?

CBSE's academic session starts in April. The UP Board and CISCE publish their own calendars, so confirm every date on the board's official website. A board or entrance year in Prayagraj usually moves through these phases:

  • April to June: new books and then the summer break, a good window for fixing old gaps; in the hottest weeks keep lessons to early mornings or evenings.
  • July to September: steady weekly lessons through the monsoon, with an online back-up agreed for days of heavy rain.
  • October and November: the festival weeks; plan a lighter schedule and make up hours on either side.
  • December to February: complete the syllabus, sit full-length papers and pre-boards, and set winter lesson times before it gets dark and cold.
  • March to May: the board exams finish, the second JEE Main session and JEE Advanced follow, and NEET UG arrives.

An April start gives a full year; a later one still helps, with more weight on past papers.
