Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

The UP Board was founded in Prayagraj, and its head office is still here. For a family in the city that changes very little about the exam itself: a student in Naini or Kareli sits the same High School or Intermediate paper as one at the other end of the state. What it does mean is that the board's own website, upmsp.edu.in, is the reference that tutors and parents here should work from, rather than guidebooks or hearsay. This page explains what the board is and which office handles what, walks through one senior subject in detail (Intermediate chemistry, paper and practical), lists the free material the board publishes, and covers medium, the tutor's plan from Class 9 to Class 12, travel across the city's zones, the demo and fees. Every board fact below comes from upmsp.edu.in, read for the 2026-27 session. The board revises its documents, so check the current version for your child's year.
Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, Uttar Pradesh, which most families simply call the UP Board, was set up in 1921 at Prayagraj by an act of the United Provinces Legislative Council. Its first examination followed in 1923. Its official name still ends with the city's name, and its head office stands in Civil Lines. The board describes itself as one that used a 10+2 structure from the very beginning.
Its work falls into four parts, as the board lists them: recognising schools, prescribing the curriculum and textbooks for the secondary classes, conducting the examinations, and granting equivalence to qualifications from other boards. For parents, the second part matters most. The syllabus, the textbooks and the model papers are all set centrally and published on the board's website, so a tutor in Prayagraj has exactly the same documents as a tutor anywhere else in the state. The difference between a good and an ordinary UP Board tutor is whether they have opened this year's files.
Alongside the head office, the board has regional offices. The earliest were set up at Meerut, Varanasi and Bareilly, and a Prayagraj regional office followed in 1987; the board's contact page also lists one at Gorakhpur. The Prayagraj regional office is also in Civil Lines, and it serves a large block of districts, among them Prayagraj itself, Kaushambi, Pratapgarh, Fatehpur, Lucknow, Kanpur Nagar, Jhansi, Banda and Chitrakoot.
| Matter | Where it goes | What a family should do |
|---|---|---|
| Examination and result queries | The regional office for your district | Use the board's results portal first; keep the roll number safe |
| Duplicate certificate or mark sheet | The regional office | Follow the procedure on upmsp.edu.in; do not pay agents |
| Migration and verification | The regional office | Ask the new school or college which documents it needs, then apply |
| Scrutiny of answer scripts | The regional office, after the board's notice | Watch the home page for the scrutiny notice and its last date |
None of this is a tutor's job. We mention it because families in Prayagraj sometimes assume that living near the board's offices allows a shortcut; it does not, and the published procedure is the only one to follow.
The board conducts two public examinations. High School comes at the end of ten years of schooling, at Class 10. Intermediate comes at the end of the 10+2 stage, at Class 12, and students take it in a group of subjects. The board's career guidance is organised around four such groups: agriculture, arts, commerce and science. The home page also carries advance registration for Classes 9 and 11 and examination registration for Classes 10 and 12, for students in schools and for private candidates, so the two years before each examination have their own paperwork. The school handles it, but parents should check that the name, date of birth and subjects on record are right, early.
To show what the board's documents contain, here is the Class 12 chemistry syllabus for 2026-27 (subject code 152). The subject carries 100 marks: a 70-mark written paper and a 30-mark practical examination. To pass, a student needs 23 in the paper and 10 in the practical, 33 in all. The paper has seven questions, built like this:
| Question | Parts | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Six multiple-choice parts of one mark | 6 |
| 2 and 3 | Four parts of two marks each | 8 + 8 |
| 4 | Four parts of three marks | 12 |
| 5 | Four parts of four marks | 16 |
| 6 and 7 | Two parts of five marks each | 10 + 10 |
The syllabus adds a rule that at least eight marks' worth of numerical questions must be asked, so calculation practice in solutions, electrochemistry and kinetics is not optional. The ten units and their marks:
| Unit | Marks | Tutoring note |
|---|---|---|
| Solutions | 8 | Colligative properties and molar mass: a natural home for the numerical marks |
| Electrochemistry | 7 | Nernst equation, conductance and cells; practise the calculations |
| Chemical kinetics | 7 | Rate laws and half-life for zero and first order |
| d- and f-block elements | 6 | Trends, plus preparation and properties of KMnO4 and K2Cr2O7 |
| Coordination compounds | 7 | Naming by IUPAC rules, bonding theories, isomerism |
| Haloalkanes and haloarenes | 7 | Substitution mechanisms; uses and environmental effects |
| Alcohols, phenols and ethers | 7 | Preparation, properties and tests to tell them apart |
| Aldehydes, ketones and carboxylic acids | 8 | Nucleophilic addition and named reactions |
| Amines | 6 | Telling primary, secondary and tertiary amines apart; diazonium salts |
| Biomolecules | 7 | Carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and nucleic acids |
Two habits follow. First, because the long five-mark parts come last, a student should practise writing complete answers to them, not just knowing the content. Second, the five organic units together carry 35 of the paper's 70 marks, so a tutor should keep reaction lists alive with short written recall every week. Our chemistry home tutors in Prayagraj page covers the subject across boards.
The practical half of the subject is easy to neglect, and the board's syllabus shows how much is at stake. The 30 marks divide evenly into an external examination and internal assessment:
| Component | External (15) | Internal (15) |
|---|---|---|
| Salt analysis: one cation and one anion in a given salt | 4 | - |
| Volumetric analysis with potassium permanganate | 4 | - |
| Content-based experiment | 3 | 3 |
| Viva | 4 | - |
| Project and viva | - | 8 |
| Class record | - | 4 |
For the volumetric task the student titrates permanganate against oxalic acid or ferrous ammonium sulphate, and the syllabus asks that students weigh and make the standard solution themselves. Content-based experiments include paper chromatography, tests for functional groups, tests for carbohydrates, fats and proteins in foodstuffs, and work with sols and emulsions. The internal list adds preparations of inorganic and organic compounds, rate of reaction studies, enthalpy experiments and a cell whose EMF is measured as concentration changes. Private candidates, who have no class record, are given four viva marks in its place.
A home tutor cannot run the laboratory, and must never write a project or record for a student. What a tutor can do is teach the theory behind each experiment, drill the steps of salt analysis on paper, rehearse viva questions, and check the record is complete before it is handed in. Those are the easiest practical marks to protect.
The student section of upmsp.edu.in is more useful than many families realise. It offers:
A tutor who builds lessons on these files is teaching to the paper your child will actually sit. Ask any tutor which of them they use. For choosing an Intermediate group, our guide to choosing a board and stream sets out the questions to ask.
UP Board students may study in Hindi or in English, and the chemistry syllabus we read on the board's site is written in Hindi. That has a practical consequence. A tutor may explain a reaction or a theorem in the language the child understands most easily, but written practice should use the exact terms the child will meet on the paper. Tell us the medium when you ask for a tutor, along with the class and the Intermediate group. A tutor who is right in every other way is still the wrong match if the medium is wrong. If English itself is the difficulty, see our English home tutors in Prayagraj.
| Class | Focus | Board document to use |
|---|---|---|
| 9 | Close gaps in maths and science before High School begins; check registration details | Class 9 syllabus and question bank |
| 10 | Unit-by-unit coverage at the monthly pace, then model papers under exam conditions | Monthly syllabus, model papers |
| 11 | Settle the Intermediate group; build the base in the group's main subjects | Class 11 syllabus, career guidance |
| 12 | Full coverage, numerical practice, practical theory and viva, then model papers | Class 12 syllabus and model papers |

Yes. Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, Uttar Pradesh was set up at Prayagraj in 1921 by an act of the United Provinces Legislative Council, and its head office is in Civil Lines. That does not change the exam for local students: the syllabus, model papers and procedures on upmsp.edu.in apply equally across the state.
The board's contact page lists a Prayagraj regional office, also in Civil Lines, covering Prayagraj and many other districts. Regional offices handle examination and result queries, duplicate certificates and mark sheets, migration, verification and scrutiny. Follow the procedure on upmsp.edu.in rather than paying anyone who promises a shortcut.
For 2026-27, chemistry has a 70-mark paper and a 30-mark practical, with 23 and 10 needed to pass. The paper has seven questions, from six one-mark multiple-choice parts to two five-mark parts in each of the last two, and at least eight marks must be numerical. Solutions and aldehydes, ketones and acids carry eight marks each.
Fifteen marks come from an external examination: salt analysis, permanganate titration, a content-based experiment and a viva. Fifteen are internal: project and viva, class record and another experiment. Private candidates get viva marks in place of the record. A tutor can teach the theory and rehearse the viva, but must never write the record or project.
The student section of upmsp.edu.in has the syllabus, a monthly syllabus that paces the year, model papers, a question bank, formative assessment material, links to books and career guidance for the agriculture, arts, commerce and science groups. A good tutor builds lessons on these files rather than on old guidebooks.
In whichever medium your child writes the paper. UP Board students may study in Hindi or English, and the chemistry syllabus we read on the board's site is in Hindi. A tutor can explain in the language your child follows most easily, but written practice should use the exact terms that will appear on the paper.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor sets their own fee, which you see before the free demo.
