Prayagraj (Allahabad) Home Tuition Guide: Every Zone and Locality
Prayagraj, the city earlier known as Allahabad, makes most sense to a visiting tutor once two features are clear. An east–west railway line runs through the middle: the old city around Chowk lies south of it, and Civil Lines with the planned New City lies north. Then there are the rivers. The Yamuna puts Naini on its far bank, the Ganga does the same for Jhunsi and Phaphamau, and on the western side the city spreads out towards Bamrauli. Below are twenty localities in five zones, with what to tell a tutor before the first visit.
Finding your way: the line, the rivers and the stations
Most home tutors in Prayagraj travel by two-wheeler, with autos, e-rickshaws and buses filling the gaps. Stations make handy reference points even for tutors who never take a train.
| Reference point | Side of the city | Localities it helps with |
|---|---|---|
| Prayagraj Junction, northern (Civil Lines) entrance | North of the railway line | Civil Lines, George Town, Ashok Nagar |
| Prayagraj Junction, city-side entrance | South of the railway line | Chowk, Johnstonganj, Lukerganj |
| Prayagraj Rambagh (Allahabad City) station | Old city, on the line towards Mau and Gorakhpur | Rambagh, Dariyabad |
| Subedarganj station | West | Kareli, Dhoomanganj, Kalindipuram, Jhalwa |
| Naini Junction and Cheoki, the Old Naini Bridge and the New Yamuna Bridge | Across the Yamuna | Naini |
| The road bridge over the Ganga and the Jhunsi bus depot | Across the Ganga, to the east | Jhunsi |
| Phaphamau station and the Prayagraj–Lucknow highway | Northern edge, on the Ganga | Phaphamau |
Civil Lines and Central
The New City just north of the railway line, laid out on straight roads, with apartment buildings now the most common kind of home. Zone overview: Civil Lines and Central.
- Civil Lines: the planned centre and the city's main business district, where offices, cafes and cinemas sit among apartment buildings. On the grid, a road name and the nearest crossing are usually enough. The shopping streets are slow after dark and hard to park on, so suggest a quieter side road.
- George Town: a residential neighbourhood next to Civil Lines, known locally for its many clinics, with older houses and newer flats. Give the block and floor, and the calmer inside route.
- Tagore Town: an older planned neighbourhood on George Town's western side, green and dotted with parks. Houses mix with apartment buildings; for a flat, tell the guard when to expect the tutor.
- Ashok Nagar: mostly two- and three-bedroom flats alongside independent houses, near North Malaka and Old Katra. An early slot after school helps avoid the evening build-up on roads towards Civil Lines.
Katra and Allahpur
Homes gathered around one of the city's major bazaars, from colony houses to newer blocks. The market lanes are the main obstacle. Zone overview: Katra and Allahpur.
- Katra: the bazaar runs through Old Katra, New Katra and Katra Extension, with New Katra the most residential part. Ask the tutor to come in along a residential street rather than through the shops, and name a landmark near your gate.
- Allahpur: a township with its own markets and parks, next to Tagore Town. Many homes are houses on quiet lanes; for apartment buildings, check whether the gate keeps a visitor register.
- Mumfordganj: planned housing colonies of independent houses, now joined by apartment buildings. The colony layout means a block and house number usually does the job.
Chowk and Old City
South of the railway line, older homes crowd the lanes behind long-established markets. Zone overview: Chowk and Old City.
- Chowk: the heart of the old city, marked by the Ghantaghar clock tower and a large bazaar. Start directions from the clock tower, add the lane name and send a map pin. Autos and rickshaws are the usual way in.
- Johnstonganj: flats, builder floors and independent houses side by side, close to the station's city-side entrance and the city bus stand. The bus-stand roads are crowded in the evening, so a slot straight after school helps.
- Lukerganj: just south-west of the Junction, where old bungalows share the streets with apartment buildings and independent floors. Tutors can come in from Kareli, Rajrooppur or across the line from Civil Lines.
- Rambagh: homes around Prayagraj Rambagh station, a mix of flats and older houses near Kydganj. The station is the simplest landmark, and a tutor from further off can arrive by train.
- Dariyabad: older houses along narrow lanes and newer apartment buildings, near Gaughat and Kydganj. A two-wheeler parks far more easily than a car.
West Prayagraj
The roomiest part of the city, stretching towards Bamrauli and the airport. Homes are further apart and most tutors arrive by two-wheeler. Zone overview: West Prayagraj.
- Kareli: a large planned colony of independent houses on plotted layouts, divided into several smaller named neighbourhoods. Visits are mostly door to door; a block and house number is all a tutor needs.
- Dhoomanganj: independent houses and apartment buildings with flats of two to four bedrooms, near Preetam Nagar and Sulem Sarai. Families often choose a time soon after school.
- Rajrooppur: houses and newer apartment projects between the older western colonies and the airport side. For a house, a landmark on the nearest main road is enough; for a flat, check how visitors are registered.
- Kalindipuram: mainly apartment complexes, with some villas and houses. Share the tower and floor, and put the tutor's name with the guard before the first class.
- Jhalwa: a growing area of plots and independent houses near Bamrauli, where new homes can look alike. A precise location pin saves the tutor a phone call on day one.
Naini, Jhunsi and Phaphamau
Three townships across the rivers, each with its own rail or bus links. Zone overview: Naini, Jhunsi and Phaphamau.
- Naini: on the far bank of the Yamuna, which had become the city's chief industrial area by the 1950s, with residential colonies and apartment buildings among the industrial estates. Both bridges are busiest in the morning and evening.
- Jhunsi: on the Ganga, part of the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation since 2020, with houses, plots and newer development-authority colonies.
- Phaphamau: a township on both sides of the Prayagraj–Lucknow highway, with colonies such as Gaddopur and Shantipuram and its own railway station.

Same bank, other bank: where online classes fit
A home tutor works well when they live close enough to keep one fixed weekly slot without a long crossing. When the specialist your child needs lives across the Yamuna or the Ganga, or in another city, an online tutor for Prayagraj students removes the journey. Many families combine a nearby home tutor with an online tutor for one demanding subject. Our comparison of home and online tutors sets out the trade-offs, and home tuition fees in Prayagraj covers what to ask about rates, hours and missed classes.

Frequently asked questions
Which side of Prayagraj is easiest for a home tutor to reach?
Central localities north of the railway line, such as Civil Lines, George Town and Tagore Town, are simple to describe and close to many tutors. The old city needs clearer lane directions, the west needs a map pin, and townships across the rivers do well with a tutor from the same bank.
We live in Naini. Should we look for a tutor from the main city?
Start with tutors who live in Naini or nearby on the same bank, because a daily crossing over the Yamuna depends on bridge traffic, which peaks in the morning and evening. If the subject needs a specialist from the main city, an online class for that subject avoids the crossing altogether.
How do we guide a tutor through the old-city lanes?
Begin with a landmark everyone knows, such as the Ghantaghar clock tower, Rambagh station or the city bus stand, then give the lane name and send a map pin. Suggest a two-wheeler rather than a car, and meet the tutor at the lane entrance on the first visit if possible.
Do Prayagraj tutors teach UP Board students in Hindi?
The UP Board is Uttar Pradesh's state board, and tutors differ in the medium they teach in. Mention Hindi, English or both when you send the request, so the matched tutors suit your child. At the demo, check that explanations and written practice match the language of your child's exam paper.
Is online tuition a real option in every part of the city?
Yes. Online classes work anywhere with a steady connection, from Civil Lines to Jhalwa or Phaphamau. They suit specialist subjects and late-evening revision especially well. Many families keep a nearby home tutor for regular schoolwork and add an online tutor for the one subject that needs a specialist.
