What home tuition costs in Mysuru

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.

Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Example only, not a quote: one subject, one-hour classes, 4 weeks a month. Your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.
Classes a week Classes a month At ₹800 an hour At ₹2,500 an hour
2 8 ₹6,400 a month ₹20,000 a month
3 12 ₹9,600 a month ₹30,000 a month

Why one-to-one home tuition costs more than group coaching

In a coaching batch, one teacher's hour is shared by many students, so each family pays for a part of it. At home the whole hour is your child's: the pace, the questions and the homework check follow one student, and the tutor's travel to your home is part of the working day. A small group of two or three children from the same society usually costs less per child, with less individual attention.

Home tuition in Mysuru (Mysore): a parent's map from Gokulam to J.P. Nagar

Mysuru (Mysore) is a city that most people can picture from a few fixed points. Chamundi Hills closes off the south-east; Mysore Junction sits on the north side of the old centre; Hunsur Road heads out north-west past Kukkarahalli Lake towards Hinkal; Bannur Road leaves to the east; and the Outer Ring Road loops round the whole city, tying together layouts such as Vijayanagar, Dattagalli, Bogadi and J.P. Nagar that grew up long after the older streets of Chamarajapuram and Krishnamurthypuram. For a family hiring a tutor, those fixed points are more useful than any ranking. A teacher who rides in along the same road you use, or who lives in the next stage of your own layout, is the one who keeps turning up on a wet Tuesday in the middle of term.

How does NXTutors pair a Mysuru student with a tutor?

Everything begins with one short request per child. We ask for the class and the board, the subjects causing worry, the name of your layout or locality along with a stage number or circle that a newcomer could find, the evening or weekend hours that are genuinely free, and whether lessons should be at home, online or a blend. A budget figure for the month is useful as well. Using that, we put forward two or three tutors. The fee each one charges is on show before any visit, and the first class with the tutor you prefer is a free demo. In Mysuru the shortlist usually depends on four practical points:

  • Inside or outside the Ring Road. The older centre and the newer outer layouts are linked by a handful of main roads, so a tutor already working on your side of the Ring Road is easier to hold on to through the year.
  • Stage, phase and cross. Layouts like Vijayanagar, Dattagalli and Kuvempunagar are large and numbered, and a tutor from the next stage is usually a better bet than one from across town.
  • The board and the year. A child heading for the SSLC, a second-year PUC student, a CBSE or ICSE teenager and an IB or IGCSE student each need a differently prepared tutor.
  • House or flat. Many Mysuru families live in independent houses, where the tutor simply rings the bell; apartment buildings, more common in parts of Vijayanagar, Hinkal and Siddhartha Layout, usually want a name at the gate first.

Use the demo as a real lesson on the chapter your child is on this week. If the match feels wrong, we arrange another tutor from the shortlist, and switching to a different tutor at any later point is free too.

Mysuru, zone by zone

Tutors shown on the Mysuru pages are drawn from our tutor profiles, and 20 Mysuru localities have their own page. Each one puts tutors who live in that locality at the top, followed by tutors from the same zone, then the wider city, and after that tutors who teach online. To plan home visits we divide the city into five zones, going round from the railway station clockwise: North Mysuru, North-West Mysuru, South-West Mysuru, Central and South Mysuru and East Mysuru. The zones are our own way of grouping journeys; they are not the city corporation's wards.

North Mysuru: around Mysore Junction and KRS Road

The city's main railway station, Mysore Junction, stands in the Medar block of Yadavagiri. It opened in 1870 and serves the main lines to Bengaluru and Hassan as well as the branch line to Chamarajanagar. Yadavagiri itself mixes apartment buildings with independent houses. Next door, Vontikoppal, also known as Vani Vilas Mohalla or V.V. Mohalla, is one of the busiest suburbs on this side, with KRS Road running through it and homes, shops and offices sharing the same streets. Gokulam, laid out in stages that include Gokulam 3rd Stage, is mostly independent houses on individual plots, with a few apartment buildings by local builders, and KRS Road along its edge connecting it to NH-275. Jayalakshmipuram sits off Hunsur Road, a commercial and residential suburb whose junction links it with Vontikoppal.

This is the easiest corner of the city to reach without a vehicle of your own. City buses and autos run past the station, and a tutor living in one of the towns on the Bengaluru, Hassan or Chamarajanagar lines can arrive by train and take a short auto ride. Since March 2023 the Bengaluru–Mysuru section of NH-275 has run as an access-controlled expressway, which matters for tutors who live towards that side. The catch is timing: roads near the station fill up when trains come in, and KRS Road and Hunsur Road are slowest around school and office hours, so fix an evening slot early in the term.

North-West Mysuru: the Hunsur Road and Ring Road layouts

Vijayanagar is a large planned suburb that grew in four stages. The 1st and 2nd Stages sit beside Hunsur Road (NH-275); the 3rd Stage lies north of the 4th and south of Hinkal, and was brought inside Mysuru City Corporation limits in October 2021; the 4th Stage has two phases, one of them along 80 Feet Road. Plotted layouts with independent houses are the norm, with apartment blocks in parts of the 4th Stage. Hinkal sits where Hunsur Road meets the Ring Road, with the Hinkal flyover over that junction since December 2018; since November 2020 it has belonged to the Hootagalli City Municipal Council, which also takes in Vijayanagar 4th Stage. Its housing mixes apartment buildings, houses and residential plots, with Devarakere Lake as a local landmark.

Hebbal is both a suburb and one of the industrial areas set up around Mysuru by the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board, sometimes called Electronic City, where residential layouts sit next to large technology and engineering campuses; Hebbal Lake is a familiar reference point. In this zone the address itself is the first hurdle: always send the stage, the phase and the cross and main road numbers, or a circle near you. Roads near the campuses are heaviest when shifts and offices start and end, so evening and weekend slots are the easiest to keep, and tutors from inside the zone can usually ride across on the Ring Road.

South-West Mysuru: planned layouts from Saraswathipuram to Bogadi

Saraswathipuram, close enough to the centre to feel like part of downtown, was originally designed as a residential area for teachers. It is known for wide, shaded roads and parks, has its own fire station, library and post office, and is mostly older independent houses; Kukkarahalli Lake, with a walkway round it, lies at its edge beside Hunsur Road. Kuvempunagar is a large layout planned and maintained by the Mysore Urban Development Authority, with asphalted roads, playgrounds and houses on plotted sites, and its bus depot is a handy transport point. Ramakrishnanagar is built around Andolana Circle, with parks on several sides and the Outer Ring Road along one edge.

Further out, Dattagalli spreads in stages around the Ring Road, with a small lake in its 3rd Stage, and Bogadi on the western edge has two parts: Bogadi 2nd Stage just inside the Ring Road and Bogadi village just outside it, along with several newer layouts, villas and apartment buildings. Most of the Outer Ring Road opened in 2012, and it is the road that holds this zone together. Nearly every home here is an independent house with space to park, so a two-wheeler visit is simple; what tutors need most is the stage, the cross road and a park or circle to look for.

Central and South Mysuru: older streets towards Chamundi Hills

Chamarajapuram is one of the older planned localities near the centre, with lanes of family homes and its own railway station near K.G. Koppal on the Chamarajanagar branch line, open since 1990. Krishnamurthypuram, once a residential colony, is now partly a downtown area where banks, shops and restaurants stand among older homes; the Jayanagar railway gate and the underbridge junction are the landmarks everyone uses. Ashokapuram has a station of its own on the same branch line, opened in 2008 near J.P. Nagar, and mixes homes with a railway workshop and government offices; city buses link it with Jayanagar and Chamarajapuram.

Chamundipuram, another of the old planned localities, lies between Vidyaranyapuram, Nanju Malige and the foot of Chamundi Hills, which makes the hills the obvious way-finder on this side. J.P. Nagar (Jayaprakash Nagar) was first planned as an industrial zone and has become a large residential district beside the Outer Ring Road, with Gorur Road running through it, a sports complex and a library as landmarks, and a bus terminus at the end of several city routes. Older streets here can be narrow, so tell the tutor where to park, and expect the shopping streets of the centre to be crowded in the evening.

East Mysuru: Bannimantap and the Bannur Road side

Bannimantap takes in Hanumanthanagar and HUDCO Layout along with housing colonies, with Highway Circle as its main junction and the large Bannimantap Parade Grounds as the landmark nobody misses. City buses run from the city bus stand to Hanumanthanagar, stopping at HUDCO Layout. Siddhartha Layout, also called Siddhartha Nagar, spreads along Bannur Road and the roads around it, and the Bannur Road junction on the Ring Road is its hub; apartment buildings and houses stand alongside hotels, a dairy and government training offices, and the zoo and Karanji Lake are on this side of the city. Raghavendra Nagar shares its postal code, 570011, with Siddhartha Nagar, and combines residential streets with shops, clinics and offices on the main roads.

Many families in Siddhartha Layout live in flats, so register the tutor at the gate and share the tower and flat number before the first class; in colony houses the tutor comes straight to the door. Highway Circle and the Bannur Road junction are the slow points at school and office hours. The parade grounds host the closing events of Mysuru Dasara, and the roads around them are very crowded in that season, so plan those days in advance or move them online.

Which boards do Mysuru tutors prepare students for?

Mysuru students sit the Karnataka state examinations, CBSE, CISCE's ICSE and ISC, and in smaller numbers IB or Cambridge IGCSE. Being good at one of these does not make a tutor ready for another, so we match the board and the year together, never one without the other.

KSEAB: SSLC and II PUC

The Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board took that name in 2022; it began in 1966 as the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board. It runs the Class 10 SSLC and the Class 12 II PUC examinations, and Mysuru is one of its four divisional offices, alongside Bengaluru, Belagavi and Kalaburagi. The SSLC is held in March or April, with a further sitting in June for students who did not pass the main one. A tutor for these years should work from the prescribed textbooks and the board's own papers; take every date and format only from kseab.karnataka.gov.in. Our page on Karnataka board tutors in Mysuru goes further.

CBSE

A CBSE paper rests on the NCERT books, but it increasingly asks students to apply a concept to a question they have not seen before. For a teenager with an eye on an engineering or medical entrance that is good news, since thorough NCERT study pays twice. What such students often lack is long-form writing: setting out a full board answer, step by step, after weeks of objective questions.

ICSE and ISC

CISCE's Class 10 and Class 12 papers are long, written and broad, and English carries prescribed literature. The hard part is reaching every chapter while keeping answers exact, so a good tutor revises in planned cycles, sets answers against the clock and keeps track of the internal project work in each subject.

IB and IGCSE

For the IB Diploma or Cambridge IGCSE, the closest specialist is often an online one. IB grades coursework as well as exams, and a tutor may guide an Internal Assessment or Extended Essay but must never write any of it; IGCSE rewards regular past papers marked against the official schemes.

Where should a tutor put the effort at each age?

Classes 1 to 5

In primary school the job is fluent reading, quick and accurate arithmetic, and the habit of finishing work neatly. When a child studies in English but speaks Kannada or another language at home, short spells of reading aloud in every lesson help more than extra worksheets, and the tutor can support the Kannada paper where the school teaches it.

Classes 6 to 8

These are the years when fractions, ratios, early algebra and basic science ideas either settle or quietly turn into gaps. A tutor should check understanding often, not just homework, and make sure school maths is truly secure before anyone talks about an entrance foundation course.

Classes 9 and 10

Maths and Science step up in Class 9, and Class 10 ends with the SSLC or a CBSE or ICSE board paper. Cover the syllabus chapter by chapter with a short test after each, then switch to full papers well ahead of the exam. Our Class 10 Maths preparation plan and Class 10 Science notes follow the NCERT chapters.

PUC, or Classes 11 and 12

In the two pre-university years, or Classes 11 and 12 under CBSE or ISC, the first year is the hard jump, and a large part of the entrance syllabus lives there. A gap left in first-year Physics or Maths seldom closes by itself. Our Class 12 Physics strategies and the guide to Class 12 calculus and algebra help in the final year.

Which subjects do Mysuru families ask for?

The first requests are usually Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, especially from Class 9 through the PUC years. Tutors on NXTutors also teach English, Kannada, Hindi, Social Science, Computer Science, Accountancy, Economics and Business Studies, and many take all subjects for younger children. There are separate Mysuru pages for maths home tutors, science home tutors, physics home tutors and chemistry home tutors.

Each subject has its own trap. Maths problems usually trace back to one earlier topic that never clicked, and the tutor should find it rather than drill the current chapter harder. Physics goes better when the student draws the situation and explains it before reaching for an equation. Chemistry splits three ways, with calculation in Physical, mechanisms in Organic and steady memory work in Inorganic; our guide to Class 12 Organic and Inorganic Chemistry treats them separately. Biology rewards exact diagrams and the textbook's own terms. For a student who writes well but freezes when asked to speak in English, our spoken English guide for students has short daily exercises.

Can a home tutor help with JEE or NEET in Mysuru?

It can, provided everyone knows what the tutor is for. A Mysuru student aiming at an engineering or medical entrance is usually in a PU college or a CBSE or ISC school, and may also attend a coaching programme. The tutor earns their place by doing the things a large class cannot:

  • Unpicking the week's mistakes. Take the latest test and the questions the student skipped, and work them through until each one makes sense.
  • Keeping board marks safe. PUC or Class 12 board marks still matter, and NCERT chapters serve both the board paper and the entrance, so revision can be planned once for both.
  • Putting time on the weak subject. Two focused hours on the subject dragging the score down beat four hours spread thinly across Physics, Chemistry and Maths or Biology.
  • A fixed, realistic hour. Early mornings, late evenings or a weekend block, set once at the start and then protected.

NTA runs JEE Main in two sessions during the first half of the year, and those who qualify can sit JEE Advanced. NEET UG is held once a year and half its marks come from Biology, so the NCERT Biology books deserve slow, careful reading. Use only that year's official information bulletin for dates. Our topic plans for JEE Maths, JEE Physics and JEE Chemistry, together with our NCERT-first approach to NEET Biology, are good material to hand to a new tutor.

Home or online tuition in Mysuru?

Home lessons suit younger children, students who drift on a screen, and subjects where the working on paper is the whole point, such as Maths and Physics problems. Online lessons bring in specialists from anywhere in India, which helps most with IB, IGCSE, ISC electives and hard entrance work. A few things about Mysuru tilt the decision:

  • Roads and buses do the work. Mysuru has no metro, so tutors travel by two-wheeler, city bus or auto; the Ring Road junctions, Hunsur Road, KRS Road and Highway Circle are where evening trips slow down.
  • Three stations inside the city. Mysore Junction in the north and the Chamarajapuram and Ashokapuram stations on the Chamarajanagar branch line help tutors who live near a railway line.
  • Outer layouts are spread out. Vijayanagar, Hinkal, Bogadi and Dattagalli are easiest with a tutor from the same layout or the next one along the Ring Road.
  • Dasara and heavy rain. During Dasara, central and eastern roads are crowded, and on the wettest days of the rains an online lesson keeps the week on track.

A common pattern is two or three home lessons a week plus a short online check-in before tests, all with the same tutor. Our home tutor or online tutor comparison lays out the pros and cons in more detail.

What does a home tutor cost in Mysuru?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fees, and the gap between two quotes usually comes down to a few questions worth asking:

  • Which year is it for? Help in the primary and middle years generally costs less than SSLC, PUC or Class 12 teaching.
  • School marks or an entrance? Entrance-level Physics or Maths is usually priced above school-level work in the same subject.
  • How far is the ride? A tutor crossing from Bogadi to Bannimantap may count the journey; one from your own layout often will not.
  • How long is each lesson? Ask whether a longer session fewer times a week works better for your child than many short ones.

Spend where the difficulty sits: one strong tutor for the weakest subject usually achieves more than lighter help in several. Every fee on the shortlist is visible before the demo, and we do not put forward tutors above the budget you give us. The pricing guide sets out fees by class and subject, and our post on home tuition fees in Mysuru covers the questions to raise before you agree a schedule.

How can you tell at the demo whether a tutor fits?

The profile gets a tutor through the door; the demo decides whether they come back. Notice these things:

  1. They asked first. Did the tutor find out about school, PU college or coaching, and the next test, before teaching anything?
  2. They checked the starting point. Did a few quick questions show what the student already knows, or did the lesson begin at page one?
  3. Your child understood them. Was the explanation easy to follow, in English, Kannada or a mix of both?
  4. They know the paper. Could they describe how this year's SSLC, II PUC, CBSE or ICSE paper is set without guessing?
  5. The student did the solving. Was your child writing and working for most of the hour, or mainly listening?
  6. The slot is real. Can the tutor reach your layout at that hour every week, from where they actually live?

For a flat, give the gate the tutor's name before the demo; for a house, send the stage, the cross road, a nearby circle and a map pin. Hold lessons in a shared room with an adult at home. Our demo class checklist for parents and our guide to choosing a board and stream go into more depth.

When in the school year should tuition start?

CBSE's session begins in April, while state-board schools and PU colleges follow Karnataka's own calendar, so check the notices for your child's year. Whatever the board, the Mysuru year tends to break into these stretches:

  • The opening weeks: new textbooks and a short window to repair last year's weak topics before the pace builds.
  • The rainy months: regular weekly lessons, with online agreed beforehand as the fallback for the wettest days.
  • Dasara and the festive season: a busy time in Mysuru; plan lighter weeks and make up the hours before and after.
  • Mid-year to the preparatory exams: close the syllabus, move on to full papers and watch KSEAB's notices for SSLC and II PUC dates.
  • The exam season: the SSLC in March or April, the II PUC and other board papers, then JEE Main, JEE Advanced and NEET UG for those taking them.

Take every date from official notices. Starting with the session gives a full year to work with; joining later still helps, with more of the time going on papers and exam technique.
