Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

In Mysuru, "English tuition" can mean very different things. A Class 4 child may need to read aloud without guessing; an SSLC student may be taking English as a second language and losing marks on letters and grammar; a PU student may follow every lesson yet freeze when asked to write a full answer; a CBSE or ICSE student may need literature answers with more depth. Some families simply want a child to speak with ease. Our first questions are about the paper on the hall ticket, the skill that lets your child down, and the locality you live in. The answers decide which two or three English tutors we put forward; you see what each charges before meeting, and the opening class with your pick costs nothing.
English is several skills, and a tutor who is strong in one may not suit another. Name the weak one in your request; it changes whom we suggest.
| Skill | How it shows up | What the tutor does |
|---|---|---|
| Reading | Unseen passages answered from memory, not from the text | Timed passages, with every answer traced back to a line |
| Grammar | The same errors in every essay | Errors collected from the child's own writing and fixed one pattern at a time |
| Writing formats | Letters and paragraphs that lose marks on layout | Layout fixed early, so weekly practice can go into ideas and connectives |
| Literature | Thin answers that retell the story | A point-by-point outline first, a word count respected, and a quoted detail as evidence |
| Speaking | Understands everything, answers in single words | A spoken summary at the end of each lesson, building to short talks |
The first question for a state-syllabus family is which English paper the child takes. KSEAB's list of SSLC blueprints includes English among the first-language papers and also as a second-language paper, alongside Kannada. The two are different papers with different expectations, and a tutor needs to know which one is on your child's hall ticket. In the PU years English sits among the language papers for which the PU department publishes model question papers.
We do not describe the SSLC or PUC English pattern here, because the board revises blueprints; the current ones are on kseab.karnataka.gov.in and the board's PU exam portal. What a family can check is the fit:
The Karnataka board tutor in Mysuru page covers the whole state route.
CBSE's 2026-27 curriculum gives the board paper a reading block, a writing-and-grammar block and a literature block. A tutor who knows the weights can share out lessons by marks rather than by whatever chapter school is on:
| Block | Marks | What it asks | Weekly habit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reading | 20 | Two unseen passages: one discursive, one factual and case-based, carrying a chart or data | A fresh passage each week, every answer matched to its line |
| Grammar | 10 | Items from the syllabus grammar list | Ten sentences from the child's own work, corrected |
| Writing | 10 | Five marks for a formal letter, five for an analytical paragraph that reads a graph, map or chart | One piece a week, alternating the two |
| Literature | 40 | Questions on the two NCERT books, First Flight and the supplementary reader Footprints without Feet | Two literature answers a week, outlined first and marked for relevance |
| School assessment | 20 | Set by the school, with 5 for listening and speaking | A short spoken summary to close each lesson |
Literature alone is worth half the board paper. Knowing the plot is not enough; the marks go to answers that make a point and support it, so a lesson spent outlining and writing two such answers usually earns more than another worksheet of grammar drills. ICSE students can read our ICSE Class 10 English papers guide.
Some Mysuru children study in Kannada medium until Class 10 and meet English-medium textbooks at PU or on changing school. The PU department publishes its textbooks in Kannada-medium and English-medium versions, so the same book can be read in either language. What helps is a tutor comfortable in both languages who uses Kannada as a support for a limited time:
Yes. Speaking is not separate from exam English: CBSE gives school marks for listening and speaking, and ICSE and ISC assess them too. A practical routine is for the child to explain the day's passage aloud before the tutor leaves, then, over a few weeks, to give short prepared talks and answer follow-up questions. If you want fluency for interviews or everyday confidence rather than marks, put that in the request, as it points us to a different kind of tutor. Our spoken English guide for students has more ideas.
For a young child, the goal is fluent, confident reading; exam technique can wait. Warning signs include guessing at unfamiliar words, losing the line, or putting books away quickly. The cure is little and often: decoding new words sound by sound, reading aloud with a patient listener who corrects lightly, and telling the story back in the child's own words. Several brief sessions in a week beat one long one. Where English is rarely heard at home, picture books and simple conversation about them build the ear as well as the eye. Ask us for a tutor who specialises in the primary years.
In Class 11, CBSE English Core weights reading at 26, grammar and creative writing at 23, and literature at 31; by Class 12 the grammar section is gone and literature takes a larger share. ISC splits English into a language paper, with a long composition, directed writing and a proposal, and a literature paper; our ISC Class 12 English guide explains both. IGCSE families should check with the school which syllabus their child is entered for, as First Language and the second-language syllabuses are assessed differently. Tutors for ISC, IGCSE and IB English are scarcer, which is where online lessons earn their place; the national English home tutor guide treats each course in detail.
Mysuru tutors get about by two-wheeler, city bus or auto, which makes a tutor living on your side of the city the natural first choice. Our Mysuru home tuition page lists every locality.
| Locality | Homes | Plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Saraswathipuram | Older independent houses on wide, shaded streets; the locality has its own public library | A fixed slot clear of the peaks near the lake and Hunsur Road; street parking is usually simple |
| Ramakrishnanagar | Homes on residential layouts around Andolana Circle and its parks | Andolana Circle as your landmark; an evening slot set in advance, as traffic builds at office hours |
| Yadavagiri | Apartment buildings and independent houses beside the railway station | Telling the gate the tutor's name in a flat; avoiding train arrival times |
| Vontikoppal | Houses and flats among shops and offices | A map pin and the nearest junction; a slot outside school and office hours |
| Jayalakshmipuram | Residential streets in a busy commercial suburb | The tower and flat number for the gate; a class after the evening rush or at the weekend |
| Hinkal | Apartment buildings, independent houses and plots at the edge of the city | Visitor registration in apartment buildings; which road, Hunsur Road or the Ring Road, to approach from |
The Mysuru home tuition guide adds landmarks and quieter times for every zone.
From roughly Class 3, English can be taught well on a screen, provided the tutor sees the written work in advance: a phone photo of the notebook or a shared document is enough. Online lessons also bring ISC, IGCSE and IB specialists within reach. Keep lessons at home for early readers, for the first stretch of a move from Kannada medium, and for children who talk more freely in person. Where the most suitable tutor is on the far side of Mysuru, a weekly pattern of one visit plus one online lesson keeps travel down.
If the answers disappoint, let us know: the next shortlisted tutor gives a demo instead, and a change of tutor later on carries no charge.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor names their own rate. Expect it to reflect the class and board, how well the tutor knows that paper, the journey to you at the time you want, and the number of lessons a week. Rates are listed on your shortlist before any demo, and the Mysuru home tuition fees article suggests questions to ask.
A useful request names the class, the board and the exact English paper; the weakest skill; the language your child is happiest in; your locality with a landmark; the days and times on offer; and a budget. Two or three suitable tutors come back, fees included. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID (how we check tutors). Looking for help in another subject? Our Mysuru maths and science pages work the same way. Teachers of English who live in Mysuru can browse requests on Mysuru tuition jobs.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. An English tutor's own rate in Mysuru reflects the class and board, how well they know that paper, the journey at your chosen time and lessons a week, and it appears on your shortlist before any free demo.
Once you name the weak English skill, NXTutors sends two or three matched Mysuru tutors, each fee shown before the first class. Include the class, board, exact English paper, your child's happiest language, locality with a landmark and times. The first class is a free demo, the next shortlisted tutor can demo if needed, and switching tutor later is free.
Yes, a Mysuru SSLC English tutor must know whether your child takes English as a first-language or second-language paper, because KSEAB sets them separately with different expectations. Look for a tutor who works from the prescribed textbook and the board's own model papers. The board revises blueprints, so check the current one on kseab.karnataka.gov.in.
An English tutor in Mysuru can ease a switch from Kannada medium by explaining in Kannada where it helps while keeping written work in English. Sentence repair compares English word order with the Kannada sentence in mind, a daily reading slot builds fluency, and stock phrases help. Parent, child and tutor agree a date when lessons run fully in English.
For a Mysuru student, the CBSE Class 10 English board paper gives 40 of its 80 marks to literature, 20 to reading, 10 to grammar and 10 to writing. Literature uses First Flight and Footprints without Feet. Writing is a formal letter and an analytical paragraph on a graph, map or chart. The school adds 20 marks, including 5 for listening and speaking.
A Mysuru English tutor can build spoken confidence alongside board work, since CBSE gives school marks for listening and speaking and ICSE and ISC assess them too. Each lesson can close with your child explaining the day's passage aloud, moving to short prepared talks. If interview fluency is the goal, say so, as it points to a different tutor.
It is not too early: for a Mysuru child in Classes 1 to 5, English tuition should build fluent, confident reading, and exam technique can wait. Little and often works: decoding words sound by sound, reading aloud with a patient listener and retelling the story. Where English is rarely heard at home, talking about picture books builds the ear as well as the eye.
English lessons at a Saraswathipuram house in Mysuru are easy to keep because most homes are independent houses and street parking is usually simple. The roads near the lake and Hunsur Road are busier at morning and evening peaks, so agree a regular slot clear of them. A tutor from nearby Kuvempunagar or Chamarajapuram has an easy trip.
Mysuru children from about Class 3 usually manage English online well, provided written work reaches the tutor first as a photo or shared document. Online also brings ISC, IGCSE and IB specialists within reach. Early readers, children starting a switch from Kannada medium and those who talk more freely in person do better at home, and one visit plus one online lesson cuts travel.
For Mysuru students in Class 11, CBSE English Core weights reading at 26, grammar and creative writing at 23 and literature at 31. By Class 12 grammar goes and literature grows. ISC splits English into a language paper, with a long composition, directed writing and a proposal, and a separate literature paper. Specialists are scarcer, so online lessons often help.
During the opening English class in Mysuru, check whether the tutor first asks to see recent marked work and pitches the language so your child follows comfortably. Your child should write or speak something substantial, not just nod. Ask how the SSLC, PUC, CBSE or CISCE paper is organised, and what homework and next weeks will cover.
Tell us the class, board and your area. We share two or three matched tutors, and the first class is a free demo.
