Not sure which tutor fits? Tell us the class, board and your sector: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.
| Classes a week | Classes a month | At ₹800 an hour | At ₹2,500 an hour |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 8 | ₹6,400 a month | ₹20,000 a month |
| 3 | 12 | ₹9,600 a month | ₹30,000 a month |
In a coaching batch, one teacher's hour is shared by many students, so each family pays for a part of it. At home the whole hour is your child's: the pace, the questions and the homework check follow one student, and the tutor's travel to your home is part of the working day. A small group of two or three children from the same society usually costs less per child, with less individual attention.

Dhanbad is larger than many visitors expect. When the municipal corporation was formed in 2006, it brought the old Dhanbad municipality together with the Jharia, Sindri, Katras and Chhatatand notified areas, 27 census towns and 258 villages. So a Dhanbad address can mean a flat near Bank More, a quarter in the Bhuli township, a house in an old Jharia mohalla, or a home in Sindri beside the Damodar. Each of these places has its own centre and its own rhythm, and a tutor who lives in one of them is often a long ride from another. This guide explains how we match tutors across that spread, what the Jharkhand Academic Council, CBSE and CISCE ask of a student, and how to judge a tutor in the free demo.
You send one message with the essentials: your child's class and board, the subject or subjects that need help, the locality and a landmark near the door, the hours left after school, and whether you want lessons at home, online or a mix. If you have a monthly budget in mind, add it, so we leave out tutors who sit above it. We come back with two or three matched tutors. Each one's fee is shown before you meet, and the first lesson with the tutor you pick is a free demo. In Dhanbad, four details shape that shortlist more than anything else:
Treat the demo as an ordinary lesson on a chapter your child is studying now. If it does not feel right, tell us and the next tutor on the list takes a turn. If you want to change tutor later in the year, that change is free too.
Dhanbad suggestions are drawn from our pool of tutor profiles, and 18 Dhanbad localities has a page of its own. Each of those pages lists tutors in the same order: people who live in that locality first, then tutors who travel to it, then the rest of its zone, then Dhanbad as a whole, then online tutors. For home visits we think of the city as five zones: Hirapur and Dhaiya, Bank More and Jharia Road, Saraidhela and Koyla Nagar, Bhuli and the Katras side and Jharia and Sindri. We drew these groups to fit how tutors travel. They are not official wards or blocks.
Hirapur carries a long history for Dhanbad. In 1908 the headquarters of the subdivision moved from Gobindpur to Hirapur mouza, and Dhanbad became a separate district in 1956. Today Hirapur mixes family homes, flats and offices along Luby Circular Road, with Pandey Muhalla and Surya Vihar Colony close by. Bartand sits beside it and runs towards Dhaiya, with independent houses and apartment buildings side by side. Dhaiya stretches along the road towards Barwada, with Chanchani Colony and Jay Prakash Nagar among its neighbours, and blends apartment blocks with houses, shops and small offices.
Dhanbad Junction, station code DHN, is the main rail point for the city. It is the headquarters of the Dhanbad division of East Central Railway and lies on the Grand Chord line between Howrah and New Delhi. Because the three localities here touch each other, a tutor based in one can often take students in all three on the same evening, which helps when you need a subject specialist for Class 11 or 12. For the address, name the lane you turn into from Luby Circular Road in Hirapur, the side of the Barwada road in Dhaiya, and in Bartand, whether you are nearer the Hirapur end or the Dhaiya end.
Bank More is one of Dhanbad's busiest commercial centres, known as the garments hub of the city, with Gandhi Road, Manaitand and Matkuria around it. Flats above and behind the shops, and family houses on the lanes further back, make up most of its homes. Matkuria runs along Katras Road next to Bank More, and much of its housing is in apartment buildings. Manaitand is quieter, on the Purana Bazar side, where most homes are independent houses and ponds such as Chhath Talab, Singara Talab and Dhobi Bandh serve as landmarks. Dhansar sits on the road from Dhanbad towards Jharia, around the familiar junction of Dhansar Chowk, with Shastri Nagar nearby.
Tutors from most of central Dhanbad can reach this zone, so families here usually get a wide choice. The catch is the evening: shopping roads stay crowded until late, while the lanes behind them are calmer. A lesson that begins soon after school, or a tutor who lives inside the zone, keeps the hour steady. Around Bank More, suggest a side lane and give the building and floor. In Manaitand, a pond or the colour of the gate is a good marker. In Dhansar, say whether you are on the main road or in a lane behind it, and name the nearest turning from the Chowk.
Saraidhela lies on the main road towards Govindpur, and National Highway 18 passes through it. It was a census town until 2006, when it joined the corporation, and it now forms part of Ward 39; State Bank Colony and Subhash Nagar are among its residential pockets. Koyla Nagar is the township around Koyla Bhawan, the head office of Bharat Coking Coal Limited, and much of it forms the BCCL Township. Kusum Vihar, where part of that township also lies, has private apartment buildings along Kusum Vihar Road, with Binod Nagar and Kolakusma nearby, and Steel Gate is a residential pocket next to Koyla Nagar and Kusum Vihar where apartment buildings make up most homes.
Many families in this zone keep office hours, and some have moved to Dhanbad on a job transfer, so a regular weekday evening slot tends to work better than a crowded weekend. Township quarters and private flats need different directions. For a quarter, give the number and type exactly as written, with the road name; for a flat, the building, block and floor. If a township gate keeps a visitor check, pass on the tutor's name before the first visit. In Saraidhela, start with the colony name, because homes on the highway side and those in the inner lanes are reached in quite different ways.
Bhuli is a planned township, built in 1951 by the Coal Mines Welfare Organisation to house mine workers. It is laid out in five blocks, A to E, with blocks D and E added in 1978, and it spreads over parts of Wards 14, 15 and 16. Its three main shopping areas are D-Block Market, New Market in E Block and Shakti Market, and most local passenger trains stop at Bhuli. Nawadih, beside Bhuli Hirak Road, is a growing area where new apartment buildings stand next to older houses, and Jharudih, close by, is mostly residential, with houses making up much of its housing.
Further west, Katras, also called Katrasgarh, forms Ward 1 and marks the western end of the corporation. It is the local trading centre for the area around Sijua, and the railway line from Dhanbad reached Katrasgarh in 1894. Bhuli, Nawadih and Jharudih share tutors fairly easily with one another, but Katras is far enough away that a tutor living in or near it is usually the practical choice, with online lessons for any subject where no local match fits. In Bhuli, lead with the block letter and quarter number; in a newer Nawadih building, send a map pin and the turning from Hirak Road; in Katras, give the mohalla and a landmark near Katras Bazar.
Jharia is one of the oldest towns of the coalfield and was a notified area until 2006. Today it is a neighbourhood of Dhanbad spread over parts of Wards 36, 37 and 38, and its lanes and mohallas work almost like a town of their own. Jealgora forms Ward 44, with Jharia to its north, and many of its homes are colony quarters that can look alike to a first-time visitor. Sindri is an industrial township beside the Damodar river. It grew around a fertiliser factory that started production in 1951 and closed in 2002, and it too joined the corporation in 2006.
Distance matters most in this zone. A tutor from Hirapur or Saraidhela faces a long ride to Sindri, so we look for tutors inside Jharia, Jealgora or Sindri first, and then widen the search. For Jharia, describe your current mohalla and lane with something easy to spot, rather than an older address. In Jealgora, offer to meet the tutor at a known corner on the first day. In Sindri, give the area name and quarter or house number. When the right Class 11 or 12 specialist lives across the city, a local tutor for the core subjects plus an online tutor for one narrow subject keeps the week manageable.
Dhanbad children study under three main boards, and a few follow international programmes. We check the board before suggesting anyone, because a tutor who knows one paper style well may be less at home with another.
| Board | What it covers | A question for the tutor |
|---|---|---|
| Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC), Ranchi | The Secondary examination at Class 10 and the Intermediate examination at Class 12, as well as the Madhyama (Sanskrit) and Madrasa examinations, with courses of study prescribed for each. | Which books will you teach from, in which medium, and will you use the council's model question papers? |
| CBSE | NCERT textbooks at the centre, with many questions that ask a student to apply an idea in a new setting. | How will you train full, step-by-step written answers, not only short objective ones? |
| CISCE: ICSE (Class 10) and ISC (Class 12) | A wide spread of subjects, long written papers, prescribed English literature and project work. | How will you plan revision so that the early chapters are not forgotten by the exam? |
| IB Diploma or Cambridge IGCSE | Coursework and final papers for IB; past papers and mark schemes for IGCSE. | How will you guide coursework while making sure the student writes every word of it? |
The council was set up under the Jharkhand Academic Council Act of 2002, and its website also links to model question papers, JCERT e-content and NCERT e-books. Its timetables, notices and special-examination portals change from year to year, so read them on jac.jharkhand.gov.in rather than trusting an old printout. Our pages on JAC board tutors in Dhanbad, CBSE home tutors in Dhanbad and ICSE home tutors in Dhanbad go further into each board. Families on IB or IGCSE usually find the right specialist online.
At this stage, one tutor often covers every subject. The goals are simple: reading aloud with ease, times tables and written sums done without fuss, and a school diary that is checked each day. Where a child speaks Hindi at home but studies in English, a few minutes of reading together at every lesson builds confidence. From about Class 6, many families move to a separate tutor for maths and science, while English and Hindi stay with the first tutor.
Class 9 lays the ground for the Class 10 paper, whether that is the JAC Secondary examination, the CBSE Class 10 board or ICSE. A tutor should keep school chapters up to date and slowly bring in the board's own question style. Two of our NCERT-based guides are useful here: a Class 10 Maths plan and Class 10 Science notes.
The step up after Class 10 is large, whether the student takes the JAC Intermediate, CBSE or ISC route. Gaps from Class 11 tend to grow in Class 12, so pick a specialist for each subject that worries you. Our Class 12 Physics strategies and calculus and algebra guide help in the board year.
Maths and the sciences are where most families start, but tutors on NXTutors also teach English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Social Science, Computer Science, Accountancy, Economics and Business Studies. For younger children, a single tutor can usually take every subject. Our Dhanbad subject pages cover the core ones in detail: maths, science, physics, chemistry, biology and English.
What marks out a good subject tutor? In Maths, they trace a wrong answer back to the first faulty step, even if that step comes from an earlier year. In Physics, they ask the student to describe what is happening in plain words before writing any formula. In Chemistry, they keep the physical, organic and inorganic parts moving together instead of leaving one for the end; our Class 12 Organic and Inorganic Chemistry guide shows one way to do that. In Biology, they insist on clear labelled diagrams and exact terms. And in English, particularly for a child moving from Hindi-medium books, they grow vocabulary in both languages before asking for long English answers; our spoken English guide adds practice for home.
Some Dhanbad students in Classes 11 and 12 prepare for an entrance exam alongside school, at a coaching centre, on their own, or both. A personal tutor is most useful when given a clear job rather than asked to repeat what the coaching class already does. These four jobs come up most often:
For exam facts, rely only on official sources. NTA holds JEE Main in two sessions early in the year, and those who qualify can go on to JEE Advanced. NEET UG is held once a year, and Biology makes up half the marks, which is why a slow, careful reading of the NCERT Biology books pays off. Dates come only from each year's information bulletin on nta.ac.in or jeeadv.ac.in. Read more on our pages for JEE tutors in Dhanbad and NEET tutors in Dhanbad, our topic-wise plans for JEE Maths, JEE Physics and JEE Chemistry, and the NCERT-first approach to NEET Biology.
Both work well; what matters is the child and the hour. Home visits suit children below about Class 6, anyone who loses focus on a screen, and subjects where you want to see every line of working on paper. Online lessons open the door to tutors anywhere in India, which helps with IB, IGCSE, less common ISC electives, a second language or advanced problem solving. In Dhanbad, a few local points tip the balance:
Many families settle on two or three home visits a week and a short online check-in before tests, all with one tutor. See online tutors for Dhanbad and our guide to home and online tutoring.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.
We do not set fees. Each tutor sets their own, and you see the fee of every tutor on your shortlist before the demo. Instead of comparing numbers on their own, put the same questions to each tutor:
Put your money first into the subject causing the most trouble; one strong tutor there often helps more than the same amount spread thinly across several subjects. We never suggest tutors above the budget you give us. For a breakdown by class and subject, read the pricing guide, and for the local picture, our post on home tuition fees in Dhanbad.
A profile helps you shortlist, but one real lesson tells you far more. Sit close by, or ask your child afterwards, and go through these questions:
The practical side matters too. For a township quarter, send the block or type and the number; for a flat, the building and floor; for a house in an older lane, the turning, a shop to look for and a map pin. If there is a gate check, give the tutor's name in advance. Keep lessons in a shared room while an adult is at home. Tutors who join go through an ID check, and our ID check page explains each step. Our demo class checklist for parents and guide to choosing a board and stream go further.
You can start at any point, but each part of the year asks something different of a tutor. Taking the CBSE session, which begins in April, as a rough guide:
JAC families should follow the council's own calendar and notices, which need not match CBSE's. Starting in April gives the most time; starting later still helps, with more weight on past papers and exam technique.
It takes three steps. First, tell us the class, board and subjects, your locality and a landmark, and the hours that are free after school. Second, look over the two or three tutors we suggest, fees included, and choose one for the free demo. Third, decide after that lesson. You can also open your own locality from the list on this page, browse tutor profiles or book a free demo class straight away. If no home tutor lives near you yet, an online tutor can start without delay.
For locality-by-locality advice, our Dhanbad home tuition guide walks through all five zones, from Hirapur and Bank More in the centre to Katras in the west and Jharia and Sindri in the south.
Elsewhere in Jharkhand, we also cover Ranchi and Jamshedpur; every city is listed on our cities page.
