Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Most Dhanbad families on the state board know the name of the exam, but far fewer have looked at how the paper is actually built. The Jharkhand Academic Council publishes model question papers for its Secondary and Intermediate exams, and those papers say a great deal about how a child should study: how many objective questions there are, where the student gets to choose, and how many marks sit in long answers. A good JAC tutor plans the year from that layout. This page sets out what the council runs, how the 2026 model papers are arranged, what changed for Class 11, which subjects each Intermediate stream sits, and how families from Bhuli to Sindri can set up regular state-board tuition. All board details below come from jac.jharkhand.gov.in; open the current file there before you rely on any of them, because the council revises its documents.
The council was set up under the Jharkhand Academic Council Act 2002, which the Governor assented to in February 2003 and the state notified the following month. It is based in Ranchi. Its two public examinations shape a state-board student's school years: the Secondary examination at the end of Class 10 and the Intermediate examination at the end of Class 12. It also conducts the Madhyama examination for Sanskrit schools and the Madrasa examinations from Vastaniya to Fazil, and it prescribes the courses of study for all of them.
The council's reach is wider than the two board years. Its examination page for 2026 lists separate date sheets for Class 8, Class 9 and Class 11 exams, and its home page carries special and compartmental exam portals for every class from 8 to 12. For a Dhanbad parent, that means school tests in those years are not the only measure: the council's own papers appear well before Class 10.
The council's site carries model question papers for the 2026 Secondary and Intermediate exams, prepared by the Jharkhand Council of Educational Research and Training. The Class 10 papers in mathematics, science, social science and English share one layout:
| Section | Questions | What the student does | Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | 1 to 30, multiple choice | Answers all thirty, one mark each | 30 |
| B | 31 to 38, very short answer | Chooses any six, two marks each | 12 |
| C | 39 to 46, short answer | Chooses any six, three marks each | 18 |
| D | 47 to 52, long answer | Chooses any four, five marks each | 20 |
Read that table as a study plan. Section A rewards wide, accurate coverage of every chapter, since thirty quick questions can come from anywhere. Sections B and C reward short, exact written answers. Section D rewards a handful of chapters known in real depth, explained in full. A tutor who only drills objective questions, or only dictates long answers, prepares a child for part of the paper. In the Intermediate set, Class 12 mathematics and English Core follow the same 80-mark, 52-question pattern.
In sections B, C and D the student answers six of eight, six of eight and four of six. That choice is useful only if it is practised. In the exam hall, a child who has never chosen before often starts with the first question rather than the one they know, and loses time. A JAC tutor should rehearse the choice from the middle of the year: read the whole section, tick the questions that are certain, then start with those.
Choice is not a reason to skip chapters, though. Thirty objective questions in Section A can come from any part of the syllabus, and a chapter left out shows up there first. The sound approach is to cover everything for the objective section and pick the chapters for long answers with the tutor, based on the student's strengths.
The 2026 date sheet shows what a Secondary student in Jharkhand sits: Hindi (Course A or Course B), mathematics, science, social science, English, and further language papers. Those include Sanskrit; Urdu, Bengali and Oriya; Kharia, Khortha, Kurmali, Nagpuri and Panch Pargania; and Arabic, Persian, Ho, Mundari, Santhali and Oraon. Commerce, home science, music and vocational subjects also appear.
For tuition, maths and science are where most Class 10 requests start, and the paper layout explains why: a Section D answer in science needs a labelled diagram or a full explanation, and in maths it needs every step. Social science is often left to the last weeks, which is a mistake when thirty objective questions can cover history, geography, civics and economics together. Our maths home tutors in Dhanbad and science home tutors in Dhanbad pages go further into those two subjects.
Families who think of Class 11 as a quiet year should read the council's 2026 Class 11 date sheet. That year the exam was held in five subjects on an OMR sheet. Each subject carried 40 marks of multiple-choice questions, and the school or college added 10 marks of internal assessment per subject. To pass, a student had to clear four of the five. Science students sat physics and chemistry together in one paper, and commerce students sat accountancy and business studies together.
That format suits steady chapter-by-chapter revision and quick, accurate recall, which is also the base for Class 12. A Class 11 tutor's job is to keep each new chapter from slipping, test it with objective questions soon after it is taught, and make sure the internal assessment work at school is not forgotten. Check the council's site each year, since this exam's rules can change.
The council's date sheet marks every Intermediate paper by stream: I.Sc. for science, I.Com. for commerce and I.A. for arts. The subjects listed for 2026 show the range a Dhanbad family might need a tutor for:
| Stream | Papers listed | Where a tutor usually helps |
|---|---|---|
| I.Sc. | Physics, chemistry, biology (botany and zoology), mathematics, geology, computer science, economics | Physics numericals, chemistry equations, biology diagrams |
| I.Com. | Accountancy, business studies, business mathematics, entrepreneurship, economics, mathematics or statistics | Accountancy formats and business maths working |
| I.A. | History, geography, political science, sociology, psychology, philosophy, economics, home science, anthropology | Structured long answers and map work |
Biology is one paper covering botany and zoology together, so a single tutor needs to be comfortable in both halves. In commerce, accountancy and business mathematics are where marks depend most on laid-out working, and a tutor at the table can check each line.
In the 2026 Intermediate model papers, physics, chemistry and biology each carry 70 marks and open with 25 multiple-choice questions in Section A, followed by very short, short and long answer sections. Mathematics carries 80 marks and opens with 30 objective questions. Because the science papers carry 70 marks rather than 80, ask the school how the subject's remaining marks, such as practical work, are given in your child's year, and keep that work on time.
The physics, chemistry and biology pages for Dhanbad cover each subject across boards.
The council's model papers print their instructions in both Hindi and English, and JAC students in Dhanbad study through Hindi, through English or through a mix. Tell us which language your child writes the exam in. A tutor can explain in whichever language makes an idea clear, but practice answers should use the terms in your child's own textbook, since those are the words the examiner looks for. For a student who reads science in Hindi at school and in English for an entrance exam, a running list of paired terms, built chapter by chapter, prevents confusion. Our English home tutors in Dhanbad page helps where written English is the weak link.
The council's home page links to NCERT e-textbooks and to JCERT's e-content, and the entrance syllabuses build on NCERT content too. The difference lies in the questions. JAC papers start with objective questions but then want written answers with steps, diagrams and units; JEE and NEET papers want speed and accuracy on objective questions alone. A tutor working beside school can mark which chapters need extra depth for the entrance and which need written practice for the board, and keep the weeks before the board exam for full written answers. See our JEE and NEET home tutor pages for Dhanbad.
| Stage | Class 9 or 10 student | Class 11 or 12 student |
|---|---|---|
| Start of session | Download the latest model paper; list every chapter | Same, plus the school's internal and practical work |
| First half | Steady chapter work; short objective tests after each chapter | New chapters with OMR-style checks in Class 11; Class 11 revision in Class 12 |
| Second half | Choosing questions in sections B to D; long answers written in full | Practical record on time; written answers beside entrance practice |
| Before the board exam | Full model papers, then a review of every lost mark | Board-style papers come before new entrance topics |
The council's site also links to an older set of model papers. Ask the tutor to work from the council's papers rather than material written for another board.
A weekly tutor makes the same journey all year, so we match on the route as well as the subject.
Every locality is listed on the Dhanbad home tutors page, and the Dhanbad home tuition guide goes through the city zone by zone. Families elsewhere in the state can see the Ranchi and Jamshedpur pages.
For Class 10 maths and science, and for any student writing in Hindi, a tutor beside the notebook can check each written line and the terms used in it, which is what Sections C and D reward. In Classes 11 and 12, when school and self-study fill most of the day, one home session and one shorter online session a week can be easier to keep. Online also helps in Katras, Jharia or Sindri when the right specialist for a narrow Intermediate subject lives in another part of the city. Our online tutors for Dhanbad page and the home versus online comparison explain the choice.
We send two or three matched tutors and show each fee before the demo; the first class is free and switching tutor later is free. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after the ID check is complete (how we check tutors). The demo class checklist has more questions.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. See the pricing guide and our post on home tuition fees in Dhanbad.

A JAC Class 10 paper in the 2026 model set carries 80 marks across four sections and 52 questions. Section A has 30 one-mark multiple-choice questions. Students then answer any six very short questions for two marks each, any six short ones for three, and any four long ones for five. Check jac.jharkhand.gov.in for the current file.
Yes, the council ran a Class 11 exam in 2026, held in five subjects on an OMR sheet. Each subject had 40 marks of multiple-choice questions plus 10 marks of internal assessment at the school or college, and a pass needed four of the five. Read the current date sheet on the council's site, since rules can change.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each JAC tutor in Dhanbad sets their own fee, and you see it before the free demo class.
Yes, a Dhanbad JAC student can be taught in Hindi and still write strong answers, as long as practice uses the terms from their own textbook. The council's model papers print instructions in both Hindi and English. Tell us the language of the exam, and a tutor can keep a paired list of terms for entrance work.
The JAC date sheet lists three Intermediate streams: I.Sc. for science, I.Com. for commerce and I.A. for arts. Science papers include physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics; commerce includes accountancy, business studies and business mathematics; arts includes history, geography, political science and more. Tell us the stream and the exact subjects when you ask for a tutor.
A JAC student should practise the choice in sections B, C and D well before the exam. Read the whole section, tick the certain questions, and start with those. Choice does not mean skipping chapters, because Section A's thirty objective questions can come from anywhere in the syllabus. A tutor should rehearse this from mid-year.
JAC tutors usually reach Bhuli from nearby Nawadih or Jharudih, using the block letter and quarter number. In Katras, Jharia and Sindri, which work almost like small towns, we look for a tutor living locally first, then nearby neighbourhoods, then online. Give the current mohalla, lane or quarter number and one landmark.
Yes, a Dhanbad JAC science student can prepare for JEE or NEET alongside the board, because entrance syllabuses build on NCERT content and the council links to NCERT e-textbooks. The tutor balances objective speed for the entrance with full written answers for the board, and keeps the weeks before the board exam for written practice.
NXTutors finds a JAC tutor for a Dhanbad family from the class, stream, subjects, medium of writing and your locality. We send two or three matched tutors with fees shown first, and the first class is a free demo. In the demo, ask the tutor to work one Section A question and one long answer from a model paper. Switching tutor later is free.
