How should a JAC biology student prepare with a tutor?

How does CBSE weight the biology units in Classes 11 and 12?

CBSE marks the written paper out of 70 in both years. Listed from the largest unit down, the 2026-27 weights below can serve as a timetable:

Read from the first row down, the list says two things. Genetics leads, and inheritance problems are a technique to be practised weekly from the first lesson, not a page to memorise. What does ISC biology ask for beyond the theory paper?

CISCE splits ISC Class 12 biology into 70 marks on the written paper and 30 earned outside it: 15 for the practical exam, 10 for a project and 5 for the file. Nearly a third of the final mark therefore depends on work done steadily through the year. A tutor can help a student plan the project and keep the file current, while the work itself stays the student's own. ISC examiners also expect fuller diagrams and more exact terms than many students are used to, so the tutor should mark drawings as strictly as written answers.

What does NEET ask of a biology student?

Under the 2026 bulletin, every NEET (UG) candidate answered all 180 questions, worth 720 marks. How can a tutor help with the vocabulary of biology?

Few subjects pile up new vocabulary as fast as biology does, and a learner switching between Hindi and English has to learn many words in both. These four methods make the load lighter:

• Say it, explain it, draw it. A fresh term is pronounced, put into plain words (Hindi is fine) and then written on a diagram where it belongs.
• Word parts. Once a student knows roots such as "photo", "cyte" or "-lysis", unknown words can be decoded rather than crammed.
• A two-column glossary. Left column, the exact exam word; right column, the meaning in the student's own phrasing; a spoken quiz on it every week.
• Exam language on paper. Spoken explanation may use either language, but whatever is written uses the language the student will answer in.

How much of the biology practical can be prepared at home?

In CBSE, 30 marks ride on the practical in each senior year. The experiments themselves are done at school. At home, a tutor can go through each record entry to see that the aim, drawing and observations are complete, use photos of slides and specimens for spotting practice, and ask the reasons behind each step, as an examiner would at the viva.
