Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Whatever stream a Saharanpur student picks, English stays on the timetable until the Class 12 board exam. The UP Board paper goes further than most: it sets sentences in Hindi for the student to put into English, and that is precisely where a child who thinks in Hindi drops marks. Other homes have other worries, such as a seven-year-old who guesses at words, an ICSE student whose literature answers run short, or a Class 11 student who goes quiet when asked to speak. Share the board, class, the skill in question and your locality; NXTutors replies with two or three suitable English tutors and their fees, and the first lesson is a free demo.
One subject name hides several quite different papers. Find your child's board below before talking to any tutor:
| Board | Class 10 | Class 12 | Practice material |
|---|---|---|---|
| UP Board (UPMSP) | Written 70 (literature 35 of it) plus internal 30 | A single 100-mark paper; grammar 25, literature 40 | NCERT readers; the board's model paper |
| CBSE | Language and Literature: board 80, school 20 | English Core: written 80; listening, speaking and project 20 | NCERT readers; CBSE sample papers and marking schemes |
| CISCE | ICSE: separate 80-mark language and literature papers, internal work too | ISC: two papers of 80, project work with each | The set texts; CISCE specimen papers |
| Cambridge; IB | IGCSE First Language (0500) or Second Language (0510/0511) | IB Language A: unseen analysis, comparative essay, individual oral | Past papers for the exact entry chosen |
For 2026-27, the UP Board's Class 10 English has a 70-mark written paper and 30 internal marks. The 70 break down into reading 10, writing 10, grammar 15 and literature 35. Literature is half the paper, drawn from the same two NCERT readers that CBSE uses: First Flight carries 23 (prose 15, poetry 8) and Footprints Without Feet 12. Inside the grammar 15 sits a 4-mark task that is easy to underrate: translating four Hindi sentences into English.
The board's model paper begins with a reading period. Part A then has 20 one-mark multiple-choice questions on an OMR sheet, and Part B carries 50 marks of written answers. A tutor should therefore train two speeds: careful, final choices for the OMR section, and fuller, organised writing for Part B. In Class 9, the board's internal 30 is built from oral expression 10, creative writing 10 and unit tests 10, so speaking and writing practice at home count from the year before the board exam. Our UP Board tutors in Saharanpur page covers the other subjects.
In Class 12 the internal share goes, and English becomes one written paper of 100. Reading carries 15. Writing carries 20, including an article of about 150 words and a letter, which may be to an editor, a complaint or a business letter. Grammar carries 25, and within it a 5-mark translation of seven or eight Hindi sentences. Literature carries 40 from Flamingo and Vistas, and figures of speech are asked in the poetry section. The board also asks schools to hold four unit tests for remedial teaching; their marks do not count in the result, but they show a tutor exactly where to start. Class 11 follows a similar plan with Hornbill and Snapshots.
A CBSE child in Saharanpur reads exactly the books a UP Board child reads, First Flight and Footprints Without Feet, yet the 2026-27 board paper divides its 80 marks another way:
Of the 20 school marks, 5 are for listening and speaking. Higher up, CBSE English Core in Class 11 gives reading 26, grammar with creative writing 23 and literature 31, using Hornbill and Snapshots, and Class 12 uses Flamingo and Vistas, which UP Board Intermediate students also study. ISC splits English into a literature paper and a language paper of composition, directed writing and a proposal. For more on each course, see the national English home tutor guide.
For a lot of children in Saharanpur, Hindi is the language of thought, and the UP Board's translation questions test that head-on: 4 marks in Class 10 and 5 in Class 12. A student moving into English-medium books meets a new language and new chapters in the same term. A sensible tutor starts bilingual and moves to English in stages:
It can, and the exams reward it: CBSE gives school marks for listening and speaking, and the UP Board's Class 9 internal marks include oral expression. A simple routine is to close every lesson with the student retelling the day's passage aloud, then move on to short talks and mock question-and-answer rounds. If confident speech is the main goal, perhaps for interviews or a presentation, mention it in your request; it changes the tutors we suggest. Our spoken English guide for students explains what helps.
At this age, the goal is a child who reads without fear. Warning signs are easy to spot: a finger that loses the line, words guessed from their first letter, a book quietly put away. Little and often beats a long Sunday session. A primary tutor should break unfamiliar words into sounds, listen to the child read aloud and correct gently, and ask for the story to be told back. In homes where English is seldom spoken, picture books and simple chat in English help, with Hindi kept for moments of real confusion. Request a tutor who has taught primary classes before.
Saharanpur tutors mostly ride two-wheelers, and English lessons pay off when they are regular, so look first at tutors on your side of the city. The Saharanpur page lists every locality.
| Locality | Setting | Arrange first |
|---|---|---|
| Nawabganj | Older lanes of homes and shops | Lane, a shop people know and your gate colour |
| Mehandi Sarai | Narrow streets on the western edge of the old city, with many younger children | Whether your child studies in Hindi or English medium, and where to leave a two-wheeler |
| Pratap Nagar | Family homes north-west of the centre, often with more than one child at school | Whether one tutor can teach two siblings back to back |
| Madhav Nagar | North-east, near Janta Road, with small colonies around it | The small colony name first; an online teacher for grammar if few tutors live close |
| Sharda Nagar | The Ambala Road side of the city | A time that keeps the tutor off Ambala Road in the evening rush |
| Kamela Colony | Western side, where the Nakur road begins | The turning off the Nakur road; a late-afternoon slot when winter evenings darken early |
The Behat Road and Madhav Nagar zone page has more address tips, and the Saharanpur home tuition guide goes through each part of the city.
From about Class 3, English adapts well to a screen, provided the tutor gets the written work in advance, by photo or shared document, and marks it before the call. Online lessons also open the door to ISC, IGCSE and IB teachers who may not live in Saharanpur. In-person teaching still wins for beginning readers, for the first months after a move from Hindi medium, and for speaking practice. When the right tutor lives far away, a weekly visit plus a weekly video lesson is a fair compromise; our online tutors for Saharanpur page explains how online lessons run.
Not convinced? Another tutor from the shortlist can take a demo, and changing tutor later in the year costs nothing. The demo class checklist for parents has more ideas.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each English tutor chooses a rate. To compare, ask which board's paper they have taught most, whether they will mark writing sent between lessons, and how many visits a week they think your child needs. Fees are on the shortlist before any demo; the Saharanpur home tuition fees guide explains more.
A short message is enough: class and board; the area of English that needs help (reading, writing, grammar, translation, literature or speaking); whether your child is more at home in Hindi or English; your locality and a landmark; and the days and hours you can offer. We answer with two or three tutors and what each charges. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after the ID check is complete (how the ID check works). Saharanpur families can also look at our maths and science pages, or at English tutors in Meerut. If you teach English in Saharanpur, open requests are on Saharanpur tuition jobs.
Ask what the fee includes, such as marking writing sent between lessons. Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Saharanpur English tutors set their own fees, shown before the demo.
The UP Board Class 10 English paper carries 70 marks, with 30 more from internal assessment. Reading carries 10, writing 10, grammar 15 and literature 35. Literature comes from First Flight, worth 23, and Footprints Without Feet, worth 12. The grammar section includes a 4-mark task of translating four Hindi sentences into English.
Translation matters because the UP Board tests it directly, with 4 marks in Class 10 and 5 marks in Class 12. Students who think in Hindi often lose these marks on tense, word order and articles. A tutor can set short sentence pairs every week, marking each English version line by line until the patterns become automatic.
In Class 12, UP Board English becomes one written paper of 100 marks with no internal share. Reading carries 15, writing 20, grammar 25 and literature 40 from Flamingo and Vistas. Writing includes an article of about 150 words and a letter, and the poetry section asks about figures of speech.
CBSE Class 10 English gives literature 40 of the 80 board marks, reading 20, writing 10 and grammar 10 in 2026-27. Writing is a formal letter and an analytical paragraph on a graph, chart or map. The school adds 20 internal marks, including 5 for listening and speaking, and the readers are First Flight and Footprints Without Feet.
Yes, an English tutor can build speaking alongside exam work. CBSE gives school marks for listening and speaking, and the UP Board's Class 9 internal marks include oral expression. A tutor can end each lesson with a spoken retelling, then move to short talks. Mention spoken English in your request, as it changes which tutors we suggest.
English works well online from about Class 3, as long as the tutor sees written work before each lesson. Online lessons also reach ISC, IGCSE and IB specialists who may not live in Saharanpur. Home lessons suit beginning readers, children newly moving from Hindi medium and speaking practice, so many families mix the two.
Share a clear address and your child's needs before the first visit. In Nawabganj, give the lane, a known shop and your gate colour. In Pratap Nagar, ask whether one tutor can teach two siblings back to back. In Kamela Colony, name the turning off the Nakur road and consider late-afternoon slots in winter.
NXTutors suggests two or three English tutors who match your child's board, class and main need, such as grammar, writing or speaking. Each fee is shown before you decide. A free demo class lets you see how the tutor corrects work, and you can switch tutor later without any charge.
The tutor should start with a short piece of the student's own writing and a page read aloud. Those two samples show whether the trouble lies in reading, grammar, spelling or confidence. From there the tutor can set a weekly plan, mixing textbook chapters with letter, paragraph and translation practice, and check progress against school tests each month.
Tell us the class, board and your area. We share two or three matched tutors, and the first class is a free demo.
