Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

English tuition in Meerut covers very different needs. A UP Board student has marks riding on turning Hindi sentences into English, a question CBSE does not set. A CBSE student may read the same NCERT storybooks yet lose marks on literature answers that are too thin. ICSE and ISC students write long compositions, a child in Class 2 may still be learning to read, and an older student may simply want to speak without hesitating. Tell NXTutors the board, class, the skill that worries you and your colony, and we shortlist two or three English tutors who suit, each with a fee. The first class with the one you choose is a free demo.
Four examining bodies set the English papers that school students in Meerut prepare for, and each one builds its paper differently:
The UP Board tutor in Meerut page covers the board's other subjects, and the national English home tutor guide goes deeper into every course.
Both boards set the NCERT readers First Flight and Footprints without Feet, so a tutor can teach the chapters once. What changes is where the marks sit.
| Block | UP Board (of 70) | CBSE (of 80) | Lesson priority |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reading | 10 | 20 | Unseen passages answered strictly from the text |
| Writing | 10 | 10 (a formal letter and an analytical paragraph on a chart or graph, 5 each) | Format learned once; content and linking practised weekly |
| Grammar | 15, including 4 for translating four Hindi sentences into English | 10 | Errors from your child's own writing, fixed one pattern at a time |
| Literature | 35: First Flight 23 (prose 15, poetry 8), Footprints 12 | 40, from the same two books | Answers outlined in points, within the word limit, quoting the text |
| School-level marks | 30 internal | 20 internal, 5 of them for listening and speaking | Short spoken summaries at the end of lessons |
The UP Board model paper opens with Part A, 20 multiple-choice questions of one mark marked on an OMR sheet, and Part B carries the 50 descriptive marks. On both boards literature carries more marks than any other block, which is where a student who knows the story but writes a thin answer loses ground. Two literature answers a week, outlined before writing and checked for relevance and length, usually do more than another grammar worksheet.
The UP Board asks for translation in both Class 10 (four sentences, 4 marks) and Class 12 (seven or eight sentences, 5 marks). The question rewards accurate grammar more than fancy words, and it doubles as a way into English for a student who thinks in Hindi. A sound routine looks like this:
The same steps help any student moving from Hindi-medium to English-medium study: explain in both languages at first, keep written answers in English from the start, and agree a point after which the lesson runs fully in English.
The Intermediate paper is a single 100-mark paper. Reading carries 15. Writing carries 20 and includes an article of roughly 150 words plus one letter, which may be addressed to an editor, raise a complaint or deal with business. Grammar carries 25, including the 5-mark translation. Literature carries 40 from Flamingo and Vistas, and the poetry questions ask students to identify figures of speech. The syllabus also describes four school-level unit tests during the year meant for remedial teaching; none of them feeds into the final result, but they show a tutor exactly where help is needed.
For a tutor, the article and letter are the quickest wins, because a fixed format plus a clear plan earns marks reliably. Figures of speech need a small card of definitions with an example from each set poem.
| Course | What it asks | Where a tutor helps |
|---|---|---|
| CBSE English Core, Class 11 | Reading 26, grammar with creative writing 23, literature 31 (Hornbill, Snapshots) | Timed reading and short writing formats |
| CBSE English Core, Class 12 | Grammar is no longer tested and literature takes a larger share | Literature answers with textual support |
| ISC English | A 400–450 word composition picked from six topics, directed writing, a proposal, and a separate literature paper | Planning a long piece and keeping it on topic |
| IGCSE English | First Language or Second Language entry, chosen with the school | Matching practice to the right syllabus code |
| IB Language A | Unseen analysis and an individual oral among its components | Close reading and spoken commentary |
Meerut has fewer teachers for ISC, IGCSE and IB English than for the UP Board and CBSE, so an online specialist often makes sense for these courses.
It can, and board work gives a natural reason to: CBSE, ICSE and ISC all set aside marks for listening and speaking. A practical pattern is to end each lesson with your child explaining the day's passage aloud, then to work up to short prepared talks and quick question-and-answer rounds. When spoken confidence matters for its own sake, mention it in your request, because a tutor who enjoys conversation practice is a different match from a grammar specialist. Our spoken English guide for students has more ideas.
In the primary years, a tutor's job is to make reading feel ordinary. That means little and often: breaking unfamiliar words into sounds, a page read aloud with gentle correction, and the child telling the story back in their own words. A brief, lively session beats a long tiring one. If English is rarely spoken at home, picture books and simple conversation help a child hear the language before reading it. Ask us for a tutor used to young children, not one who mainly teaches board classes.
Tutors mostly travel by two-wheeler or auto, and the Meerut Metro now helps along the Roorkee road. Browse every locality on the Meerut home tuition page.
| Colony | Homes | Plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Kanker Khera | Old houses, newer builds and open plots in lanes that grew without a fixed layout | A main-road landmark; a two-wheeler suits the narrow inner lanes |
| Pallavpuram | Plotted homes in two phases of lettered pockets | Phase and pocket letter in the address; Meerut North station for a tutor on the metro |
| Modipuram | Houses and flats where the Meerut Metro and Namo Bharat lines end in the north | Say whether the building has a gated entrance; a weekend slot avoids weekday traffic on the Roorkee road |
| Sainik Vihar | Plots and independent houses in pockets A to D | Pocket and house number; Daurli station is the nearest rail stop |
| Lohia Nagar | Mostly houses on the scheme's plots, in lettered sectors and pockets | Sector, pocket and a park as a landmark; an afternoon or early-evening start |
| Jagriti Vihar | Many flats in multistorey buildings, some independent houses | The tutor's name at the gate; a slot that begins before Garh Road fills up |
The North Meerut and East Meerut zone guides add local tips, and the Meerut home tuition guide covers the whole city.

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors price their own lessons; the class, the board, the tutor's experience with that paper, the trip to your colony and the number of weekly lessons all affect the figure. Every fee is on your shortlist ahead of the demo, and our Meerut home tuition fees article suggests questions to ask.

Meerut UP Board students translate four Hindi sentences for 4 marks in Class 10 and seven or eight sentences for 5 marks in Class 12. CBSE sets no such question. The question rewards accurate grammar over fancy words, so a tutor checks tense first, then subject-verb agreement, then articles and prepositions.
Meerut Class 10 students on both boards read First Flight and Footprints without Feet, but marks sit differently. UP Board High School gives literature 35 of 70 and grammar 15 with translation; CBSE gives literature 40 of 80 and reading 20. On both, literature outweighs every other block, so outlined answers matter.
Meerut UP Board Intermediate students write one 100-mark English paper: reading 15, writing 20, grammar 25 including translation, and literature 40 from Flamingo and Vistas. Writing includes an article of about 150 words and one letter. Poetry questions ask for figures of speech, so a definitions card with set-poem examples helps.
Yes, a Meerut English tutor can ease a move from Hindi medium by explaining in both languages at first while keeping written answers in English from the start. Together you agree a point after which lessons run fully in English. Translation practice, with tense checked first, doubles as a way into the language.
Yes, English tutors reach Pallavpuram, Modipuram, Sainik Vihar, Kanker Khera, Lohia Nagar and Jagriti Vihar in Meerut, mostly by two-wheeler, auto or metro. Put the phase and pocket letter in a Pallavpuram address. In Modipuram a weekend slot avoids Roorkee road traffic, and in Jagriti Vihar leave the tutor's name at the gate.
Yes, a home English tutor helps Meerut children in Classes 1 to 5 when the sessions are brief, lively and frequent. The tutor breaks unfamiliar words into sounds, reads a page aloud with gentle correction and has the child retell the story. Ask for a tutor used to young children rather than board classes.
Yes, home English tuition in Meerut can build speaking, and CBSE, ICSE and ISC all set aside marks for listening and speaking. A practical pattern ends each lesson with your child explaining the day's passage aloud, building to short prepared talks. Mention speaking in your request, as a conversation tutor differs from a grammar specialist.
For ISC, IGCSE or IB English in Meerut, an online specialist often makes sense, because the city has fewer teachers for these courses than for UP Board and CBSE. Home tutors remain a strong choice for UP Board and CBSE students, especially younger children and anyone who needs written work checked beside them.
Meerut parents can judge an English demo by whether the tutor first asks to see a marked answer or notebook, and uses Hindi only where it helps. Your child should write a paragraph, translate a sentence or answer aloud. The tutor should describe your board's paper layout and set homework with a checking date.
