Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, the board usually called UP Board, has kept a regional office in this city since 1973. Its two public examinations are High School, at the end of Class 10, and Intermediate, at the end of Class 12. This page is for parents looking for a home tutor for either, or for the years that lead up to them. Rather than repeat the usual maths and science weights, it looks at parts of the board's 2026-27 syllabus files that families often skim past: how the 30 internal marks in English are earned in Class 9, what the Class 11 English paper asks for, and how Computer is taught and assessed in Classes 10 and 11. It then covers the medium of answers, a tutor's year, how tutors reach six localities, and what to ask at the demo. Every board fact here comes from upmsp.edu.in, and schemes change from session to session, so recheck the board's files for your child's year.
The board was created in 1921 at Prayagraj by an act of the United Provinces Legislative Council, and it held its first examination in 1923. It has used the 10+2 structure from the beginning: High School after ten years of schooling, Intermediate after the 10+2 stage. Its work covers three things that matter to a family: it recognises schools, it prescribes the courses and textbooks for High School and Intermediate, and it conducts both examinations. The head office remains at Prayagraj, while the regional office opened at Meerut in 1973 serves this side of the state. A tutor has no role in any of the board's processes, and no tutor should offer to "arrange" anything with it; questions about examinations and certificates belong with the school or the board's official contacts.
In the board's Class 9 English file for 2026-27, the subject is worth 100: a 70-mark written paper and 30 marks of internal assessment. The internal part is not one test. It is built from three separate pieces, each worth 10.
| Piece | What it assesses | Marks | How a tutor can help |
|---|---|---|---|
| First internal assessment | Oral expression | 10 | Short spoken answers in each session: describe a picture, retell a lesson, give an opinion in full sentences |
| Second internal assessment | Creative writing | 10 | A regular piece of original writing, corrected for structure and grammar, then rewritten by the student |
| Third internal assessment | Four unit tests through the year, alternately multiple-choice and descriptive; the four totals are scaled down to 10 | 10 | Revise before each unit test; for the descriptive ones, practise full written answers rather than one-liners |
The first unit test in the file also includes marks for holiday homework, so the work set over the summer break counts. A child who is shy speaking English loses marks in the oral piece long before the paper, which is why a tutor who makes your child talk, not just write, is useful in Class 9. Our English home tutors in Meerut page covers the subject across boards, and the spoken English for students post has exercises a tutor can use.
The 70-mark paper has four units. Reading carries 10, from two unseen passages: one tested with multiple-choice questions, the other with very short answers and a vocabulary item. Writing carries 10: a letter, application or e-mail for 4, and a descriptive paragraph, report or article of roughly 80 to 100 words for 6. Grammar carries 15, mostly short items on parts of speech, tenses, articles, word order, narration, voice and punctuation, plus a short passage to translate from Hindi into English. Literature carries 35, from the textbook Beehive (prose 15, poetry 8) and the supplementary reader Moments (12).
One poetry item deserves early practice: a critical appreciation of a poem, judged on its main theme, its form, the choice of words, the rhyme scheme and the imagery. Students who have only ever memorised summaries find this hard, and it is the kind of answer that improves quickly once a tutor shows how to plan it in four or five points.
In Class 11, English becomes a single paper of 100 marks with no internal component. The writing unit changes a great deal from Class 10.
| Unit | Marks | What is asked |
|---|---|---|
| Reading | 15 | One long unseen passage: four very short answers and three vocabulary items |
| Writing | 20 | Note making and summary 5; an article or essay 8; a letter to the editor, complaint or business letter (placing or cancelling an order, an enquiry) 7 |
| Grammar | 25 | Ten multiple-choice and five very short items on narration, synthesis, transformation and vocabulary such as idioms, phrasal verbs, synonyms, antonyms, one-word substitutes and homophones; a seven- or eight-sentence translation from Hindi, 5 |
| Literature | 40 | Hornbill 25 and the supplementary reader Snapshots 15, with short and long answers and a critical appreciation of poetry |
Note making and summary is new for many students and rewards a clear method: headings, numbered points, accepted abbreviations, then a short summary from the notes. The file also lists four unit tests held in school for remedial teaching, and states that their marks are not included in the final result. That makes them ideal diagnostics: a tutor should look at each marked test and plan the next few sessions around what it shows, without the pressure of marks that count.
Computer is one of the subjects listed for High School, and the 2026-27 Class 10 file makes it a real programming course. The written paper carries 70 marks and the school awards 30 through internal assessment.
| Unit | Marks | Main content |
|---|---|---|
| Introduction to C and coding | 15 | Variables, character set, data types, operators, input and output, branching with if-else, loops |
| Arrays, strings and functions | 15 | One- and two-dimensional arrays, linear and binary search, bubble and selection sort, functions, string handling, structures and unions |
| Pointers and file handling | 10 | Pointers with arrays, structures and functions; reading and writing files |
| Artificial intelligence and drone technology | 15 | What AI is, intelligent agents and uses of AI; drones, their uses and types: aeroplane-style, multirotor and hybrid |
| E-commerce and cyber security | 15 | B2B, B2C and C2B models, electronic payment, e-governance services; hacking, phishing, cyber fraud and spoofing, and protection through strong passwords, multi-factor authentication and secure Wi-Fi |
The 30 internal marks come from two project or file assessments of 10 each and a third 10 from four unit tests. For tuition, that means two things. A student needs real practice writing and running C programs, not just learning definitions, because searching, sorting and pointers are hard to understand on paper alone. And the project files should be agreed with the tutor early, so that internal marks are secure well before the written paper. The cyber security unit is worth reading together as a family too: it is practical advice for anyone with a phone.
In Intermediate, Computer moves from C to Python and adds a substantial practical. The Class 11 file sets a written paper of 60 marks and a practical examination of 40, and a student must reach at least 20 in the written paper, 13 in the practical and 33 overall to pass.
| Part | Marks | Content |
|---|---|---|
| Computer fundamentals and number systems | 15 | Hardware and software; binary, octal, decimal and hexadecimal numbers and conversions; floating-point numbers; Boolean algebra, truth tables and logic gates |
| Introduction to Python programming | 10 | Data types, character set, program structure, input and output, control and looping statements |
| Programming in Python | 15 | Strings, lists, tuples and dictionaries: indexing, traversing and built-in functions |
| Artificial intelligence | 10 | Features and elements of AI, agents, problem solving, and uses such as language processing, robotics, expert systems, classification and regression |
| Emerging technologies | 10 | Blockchain, digital currency, augmented and virtual reality, the Internet of Things, 3D printing and cloud computing |
| Practical | 40 | Two experiments 16 and a viva 4, drawn from programs on the two Python units; a project 20, made up of an AI mini project 8, a project viva 4 and sessional work 8 |
The practical is two-fifths of the subject, so a tutor who only teaches theory leaves a lot of marks on the table. Ask for sessions where your child writes Python on a laptop, keeps a record of each program, and talks through the code aloud, which is good preparation for both vivas. Number-system conversions and logic gates are pure practice and suit short, frequent drills.
Our Meerut home tutors page notes that UP Board students may write their answers in Hindi or in English, and that the same physics answer needs different words in each. Give us the medium of your child's answer sheet along with the class and subjects. An English-medium student still meets Hindi in the translation items of the English paper, and a Hindi-medium student studying Computer will meet English terms for almost every concept, so a tutor comfortable in both languages is useful either way. Students changing board can compare our CBSE and ICSE and ISC pages for Meerut.
Check which prescribed textbooks the school uses and buy the same editions. Read the board's syllabus file for each subject with the tutor and mark the unit weights. Plan internal pieces, projects and practical records.
Teach in step with school, revise before each unit test, and keep a notebook of mistakes. In English, practise speaking and creative writing; in Computer, write and run programs every week.
Move to the board's model papers and question bank on upmsp.edu.in, timed written answers in the medium of the answer sheet, and short revision rounds on the heavier units.
For maths and science, see our Meerut maths, science, physics, chemistry and biology pages. Intermediate science students preparing for entrance tests can read JEE and NEET home tutors in Meerut, and the board and stream guide helps before Class 11.

Yes, UP Board has had a regional office in Meerut since 1973, serving this side of the state, with its head office at Prayagraj. A tutor has no role in the board's processes and should never offer to arrange anything; examination and certificate questions belong with the school or the board's official contacts.
A Meerut UP Board Class 9 student earns the 30 internal English marks from three pieces of 10: oral expression, creative writing, and four unit tests scaled down to 10. The first unit test includes holiday homework, so summer work counts, and a tutor who makes your child speak helps the oral piece.
Note making and summary surprises many Meerut UP Board Class 11 students, and it rewards headings, numbered points, accepted abbreviations and a short summary. The paper is a single 100 marks with no internal part: reading 15, writing 20, grammar 25 including Hindi translation, and literature 40 from Hornbill and Snapshots.
Meerut UP Board Class 10 Computer is a real programming course in C, with a 70-mark paper and 30 internal marks. Units cover coding basics, arrays and functions, pointers and file handling, AI and drones, and e-commerce with cyber security. Students need practice writing and running C programs, not just definitions.
Meerut UP Board Class 11 Computer has a 60-mark written paper and a 40-mark practical in Python, and passing needs 20, 13 and 33 overall. The practical gives 16 to two experiments, 4 to a viva and 20 to a project including an AI mini project, so a theory-only tutor leaves marks behind.
Yes, written work should match the answer sheet, so a Meerut tutor for a Hindi-medium UP Board child should teach and mark in Hindi. A tutor comfortable in both helps either way, because English-medium students meet Hindi translation and Hindi-medium Computer students meet English terms.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each Meerut UP Board tutor sets their own fee, and you see it before you book.
A Meerut UP Board tutor should begin the session by matching the school's prescribed textbook editions and marking unit weights from the board's syllabus file. Through the year, teach in step with school and revise before unit tests. Before the paper, move to the model papers and question bank on upmsp.edu.in.
Yes, UP Board tutors reach central and south Meerut, including Thapar Nagar, Saket, Begum Bagh, Partapur, Ved Vyas Puri and Rithani. Bhaisali and Rithani stations opened on 22 February 2026, so tutors can come by metro. In Partapur, avoid shift-change hours near the industrial estate.
Yes, an online tutor is wiser for a Meerut UP Board student when the right specialist cannot reach your colony, for example in Class 11 Computer. Home lessons remain the usual choice for most High School subjects, with online covering any week when travel fails.
