Science home tutor in Kanpur for Classes 6 to 10: one teacher for three sciences, on the board your child actually sits

A Class 6 child in Kanpur meets science as experiments and curious facts; by Class 10 the same child is being marked on formulae, balanced equations and neat labelled drawings, often by a strict examiner. That shift happens on more than one track: UP Board High School students answer partly on an OMR sheet, CBSE students work through NCERT and a sectioned paper, and ICSE students face three separate science papers. The right tutor knows your child's track, can come at the same after-school hour each week, and builds exam habits early rather than in the last term. Ask NXTutors and you get a shortlist of two or three such tutors, fees visible from the start, with a free demo as the opening lesson.

What changes in science from Class 6 to Class 10, and what should the tutor do at each stage?

The CBSE and ICSE guidance in this guide is written by Aaditya Kashyap. The tutor's role grows as the child moves up:

Classes 6 and 7: words and sketches
Activity-led books, NCERT's Curiosity series or a school's chosen text, need converting into exam language: one precise sentence plus a quick labelled sketch for each activity.
Class 8: three subjects appear
The three sciences begin to pull apart; numericals and word equations turn up. A parent's quick check: is there a unit after each number?
Class 9: the steep year
Motion graphs, the particle nature of matter and the cell all land in the same year. Gaps should be closed in the month they open.
Class 10: the board year
Each chapter is aimed at the marking scheme, and timed sections start long before the pre-boards.

Up to the board year, a single science teacher tends to beat three specialists: only someone who sees all three subjects notices that a physics numerical keeps failing because of the arithmetic, not the physics. See our national science home tutor page, and the Class 8 science tutor page for the middle years.

How does the UP Board mark High School science?

The UP Board (UPMSP) sets the Class 10 science paper for 70 marks, and a practical examination adds the other 30. A pass requires 23 written and 10 practical marks. Its syllabus gives chemical substances 20 marks, the living world 20, effects of current 13, natural phenomena 12 and natural resources 5.

The model paper is set out in two sections. Section A is one-mark objective questions marked on an OMR sheet; Section B is descriptive. Each section is split into three sub-sections, and the board asks that every Section B sub-section be answered together, each from a new page. That instruction is worth practising at home, because a student who scatters answers through the booklet makes the examiner's job harder. The model paper is in Hindi, so a Hindi-medium child needs a tutor who uses the Hindi terms of the textbook. Our UP Board tutors in Kanpur page covers the board's other papers.

The two papers lean the same way: chemistry and biology together carry most of the marks, and electricity and light carry the same weight on both. A student who switches boards after Class 10 therefore loses less than families fear, so long as diagrams and equations have been practised properly.

What kinds of question make up the CBSE Class 10 science paper?

The written CBSE paper lasts three hours. The 2026-27 sample paper lists 39 questions: twenty of one mark (multiple-choice and assertion–reason), six short answers of two marks, seven of three marks, three four-mark items on a case or source, and three five-mark long answers. Half the marks reward knowing and understanding; applying takes 30%, and analysing or evaluating the remaining 20%.

Each type has its own drill. One-mark items need quick, exact recall. Short answers need as many separate points as there are marks. Case-based items reward reading the passage or data before touching the options. Long answers want a diagram or equation and four or five clean points. CBSE posts sample papers and marking schemes on cbseacademic before the exams, and they remain the most reliable practice set. Work through the CBSE Class 10 science notes one chapter at a time, and see the Class 10 science tutor page for how we plan that year.

Which CBSE topics does the school mark, and how many exams are there?

For 2026-27, CBSE leaves three topics to school assessment rather than the board paper. They are evolution, the periodic arrangement of the elements, and the group of motor, generator and electromagnetic induction. Internal marks still depend on them and Class 11 builds on them, so a tutor teaches them in full while keeping board revision for the rest. Board questions may also draw on the 14 experiments named in the curriculum, so the practical file is part of revision too.

There are now two Class 10 board sittings: a main exam everyone takes and a second, optional one where a student can try to raise the result in as many as three subjects, including science. No 2027 dates are out yet, so watch cbse.gov.in and treat the main exam as the one that counts. Month-by-month planning is in the board-year planner.

Is Class 9 science different this year?

For CBSE students, yes: Class 9 now uses Exploration, NCERT's new book, with the usual 80 examined and 20 internal marks. The four units weigh in as matter at 27, living things at 25, motion with force, work and sound at 23, and Earth as a system at 5. A sibling's old notebooks were written for a different book, which is why lesson plans should start from the new chapter list. Our Class 9 science tutor page has more.

What should an ICSE family ask of a science tutor?

ICSE Class 10 science is three papers, not one: CISCE examines Physics, Chemistry and Biology separately, and each has internal assessment of its own. Because each school chooses its own books under the CISCE syllabus, lessons should follow those books and CISCE specimen papers, not an NCERT scheme. ICSE examiners reward word-perfect definitions and numericals worked to the last line. Some students need support in just one paper, typically starting in Class 9. Fewer tutors in Kanpur have ICSE experience, so request one early, and consider online lessons.

Six Kanpur localities: fitting science between school and dinner

Younger students usually fit science between coming home from school and the evening meal, so a short and predictable trip for the tutor matters more than anything. Browse every locality on our Kanpur page.

What does a good science week with a tutor look like?

  • One concept lesson on the chapter the school is teaching, ending with three questions the child answers alone.
  • One practice block mixing numericals with units on every line, a balanced equation with state symbols, and a ray or circuit diagram drawn with a ruler.
  • A biology diagram from memory each week (the heart, the nephron, the digestive system), labels spelled correctly.
  • A short board-style check: OMR-style objective items for UP Board students, a timed mixed set for CBSE students.

At the free demo, ask the tutor to teach the current chapter and notice whether these habits appear without prompting. The demo class checklist for parents lists more. If the first tutor is not right, we book a demo with another from your shortlist, and a change later costs nothing.

What does a science tutor in Kanpur charge?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Fees are set by tutors themselves; Class 10 board teaching tends to be priced above help in Classes 6 to 8, and travel at your hour and lessons per week play a part. You see all fees before the demo; our Kanpur home tuition fees post explains more.

How do you start?

Tell us the class and board, the strand that worries you most, the language your child answers in, your locality with a landmark, and the afternoons that suit. A shortlist of two or three science tutors follows, fees included, and you pick whom to meet at the free demo. Should no suitable tutor be able to reach you then, online or blended lessons are the fallback. Science Home Tutor in Kanpur: common questions

How much should a Kanpur family expect to pay a Class 6 to 10 science tutor?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Kanpur science tutors set their own fees; Class 10 board teaching tends to be priced above help in Classes 6 to 8, and travel and lessons per week play a part. You compare every fee before the demo.

How do we get a science tutor shortlist for a Kanpur child in Classes 6 to 10?

For a Kanpur science shortlist, tell us the class, board, the strand that worries you, answer language, locality with a landmark and free afternoons. We send two or three matched tutors, each fee shown before the first class. The first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free.

How does the UP Board split High School science marks for Kanpur students?

For Kanpur students, UP Board High School science has a 70-mark written paper and a 30-mark practical, needing 23 and 10 to pass. Chemical substances and the living world carry 20 marks each, effects of current 13, natural phenomena 12 and natural resources 5.

Why must Kanpur UP Board students answer each Section B sub-section together in science?

Kanpur UP Board students must answer each Section B science sub-section together, each from a new page, because the model paper asks for it. Scattered answers make the examiner's job harder. A tutor can rehearse the layout in full-length practice papers until it is automatic.

Does one Kanpur tutor for all three sciences work better than separate specialists up to Class 10?

Up to Class 10, one Kanpur science tutor usually works better than three specialists, because only someone seeing all three subjects notices that a failing numerical is an arithmetic gap. Separate subject tutors make more sense from Class 11, or for an ICSE student weak in one paper.

Should a Kanpur tutor still teach evolution if the CBSE board paper skips it?

For Kanpur CBSE students in 2026-27, three Class 10 science topics are school-assessed, not board-examined: evolution, the periodic arrangement of elements, and motor, generator and electromagnetic induction. They still carry internal marks and return in Class 11, so a tutor teaches them fully.

How do the UP Board and CBSE Class 10 science papers compare for a Kanpur student switching boards?

For a Kanpur student switching boards after Class 10, UP Board and CBSE science lean the same way, so less is lost than families fear. Electricity carries 13 and light 12 on both; chemistry and biology carry most marks. Practised diagrams and equations carry across.

What changed in CBSE Class 9 science that Kanpur parents should know?

Kanpur CBSE parents should know Class 9 science now uses NCERT's new book, Exploration, with 80 examined and 20 internal marks. Matter carries 27, the world of living 25, motion, force, work and sound 23, and Earth as a system 5. Older sibling notes follow the previous book.

Is an after-school science tutor easy to arrange in Arya Nagar or Kalyanpur?

An after-school science tutor is usually easy to arrange in Arya Nagar or Kalyanpur with a late-afternoon slot and a clear address. Arya Nagar's market streets fill in the evening and its lanes are narrow. In Kalyanpur, name your part, such as Navsheel Dham, not just the area.

Should a Kanpur ICSE science student have a home tutor or learn online?

A Kanpur ICSE science student can use either, but online often widens the choice, since fewer Kanpur tutors have ICSE experience. ICSE sets Physics, Chemistry and Biology as three papers with internal marks, and schools choose their own books, so lessons should follow those books.
