What home tuition costs in Kanpur

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.

Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

CBSE home tutors in Kanpur: the 2026-27 changes, the questions that test understanding, and a tutor near home

In Kanpur, CBSE sits beside the UP Board, ICSE and ISC, and a smaller number of IB and IGCSE students, so a tutor who says they "teach all boards" needs to show they know what CBSE in particular asks for this year. The 2026-27 session brings real changes: a new optional Advanced component in Class 9, two board exams in Class 10, and papers in which about half the questions test application rather than recall. This page sets out those changes in plain terms, how marks divide in the senior classes, what a useful CBSE session contains, how to keep board marks safe beside an entrance batch, and how tutors reach six localities in the south and east of the city. It is written by the NXTutors team with Abhinandan Tiwary, who teaches Class 10 CBSE and ICSE maths, and Aaditya Kashyap, who teaches CBSE and ICSE science.

What is different in 2026-27 for Classes 9 and 10?

CBSE's secondary curriculum for 2026-27 keeps the familiar split in major subjects: 80 marks for the written examination and 20 for internal assessment, with 33 per cent needed to pass. Three changes matter for tuition.

  • One standard in Class 9 maths and science, plus an optional Advanced part. Every student takes the common 80-mark paper. Those who choose can also take an Advanced component of 25 marks made up of harder questions. It is not added to the aggregate, and the board plans to examine it in Class 10 from 2027-28.
  • Basic and Standard maths are going. They end from 2026-27, except for students already in the Class 10 batch of that year.
  • A third language during the transition, assessed inside the school, with no board paper.

For a family, the practical question is whether to try the Advanced component. A tutor can help decide by looking at how the student handles unfamiliar maths and science problems in the first term, rather than at marks in routine tests.

Two board exams in Class 10: how to use the second

Under the board's notification of February 2026, Class 10 has two board examinations. The first is compulsory. The second is a chance to improve, in up to three subjects from science, mathematics, social science and the languages. Treat it as a safety net, not a plan. A student who prepares half-heartedly for the first, expecting the second to fix things, usually ends up revising the same chapters twice under more pressure.

Check the current rules on cbse.gov.in before deciding; details such as dates and subject lists are the board's to announce.

What "competency-focused" questions look like, and how to practise them

About half of the questions in the secondary papers are competency-focused. CBSE lists the kinds: case-based, source-based, integrated, data interpretation, situational and application questions. In practice that means a paragraph, a table or a short situation, followed by questions that cannot be answered by recalling a textbook line.

Students who have learnt from question banks of one-line answers often lose marks here. A tutor helps in three ways: by reading the passage with the student and asking what it is really about before looking at the questions; by setting short cases built from the textbook chapter just finished; and by marking answers for whether they use the given information, not only whether the final value is right. The sample papers and marking schemes on cbseacademic.nic.in are the safest practice source.

What a useful CBSE session contains

  1. A short check of last time's work, done by the student without the book.
  2. The main teaching, on one topic the school has reached or is about to reach, with the student doing most of the writing.
  3. One board-style question, written in full and marked against the scheme, so presentation habits build up all year.
  4. A written note of what was covered and what to practise before the next session, kept where a parent can see it.

If sessions are mostly the tutor talking, or mostly finishing school homework, the hour is not being used well.

Keeping board marks safe beside an entrance batch

Kakadeo is known for entrance-exam coaching, and many CBSE students in Classes 11 and 12 spend their afternoons in a JEE or NEET batch. The board course can then slide, especially chemistry theory, biology diagrams and anything that needs long written answers. A home tutor can hold the board side: one fixed session a week for board-style writing and practical files, plus extra weeks before school exams. See JEE home tutors in Kanpur and NEET home tutors in Kanpur for the entrance side.

Home, online or both for CBSE?

Home tuition suits younger children and any subject where the tutor must watch the working: Class 10 maths, physics numericals, accountancy formats. Online suits short revision checks, English writing feedback and senior students whose evenings are taken by a batch. A family can also use both with one tutor: a visit at the weekend for new chapters and long written answers, and a short session on screen midweek to check homework and clear doubts. For families in localities with fewer tutors living nearby, such as Chakeri, this mix also widens the choice, because only one session a week depends on the tutor's journey. Our online tutors for Kanpur page and the home or online tutor comparison cover the choice.

Five checks for a CBSE tutor at the demo

  1. Do they know the 2026-27 changes: the Class 9 Advanced component and the two Class 10 exams?
  2. Can they show a case-based or source-based question and how they would teach it?
  3. Do they mark a written answer against the board's scheme, not just for the final answer?
  4. Do they ask what the school has covered and when the next school test is?
  5. Can they keep a fixed weekly slot from where they live?

Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID. Judge the teaching yourself in the demo; if it is not right, we arrange another, and switching later is free. The CBSE tutors in Gurgaon page has more on the board itself.

CBSE Home Tutor in Kanpur (Classes 6–12): common questions

What changes for CBSE Class 9 and 10 students in Kanpur in 2026-27?

Class 9 maths and science are taught at one common standard, with an optional Advanced component of 25 marks that does not count in the aggregate. Basic and Standard maths end, except for that year's Class 10 batch. Class 10 also has two board exams. Confirm details on cbse.gov.in.

Should my child plan to use the second Class 10 board exam?

Prepare fully for the first, which is compulsory. The second allows improvement in up to three subjects among science, mathematics, social science and the languages. A tutor can go through the first paper and help decide which subjects are worth attempting again, based on where marks were actually lost.

How can a tutor help with competency-based CBSE questions?

About half the secondary questions are competency-focused: case-based, source-based, data and application questions. A good tutor reads the passage with the student first, sets short cases after each chapter and marks whether the answer uses the information given. The board's sample papers are the safest practice material.

Can a CBSE tutor come to Barra, Naubasta or Shyam Nagar?

Yes, when a suitable tutor lives within reach. We start with tutors near your locality, then the zone, the rest of Kanpur and online tutors. In Barra, give the part number; in apartment buildings in Naubasta or Shyam Nagar, register the tutor at the gate before the first class.

My child is in a JEE or NEET batch. Does a CBSE tutor still help?

Often, yes. Batches focus on the entrance syllabus, and board work such as written derivations, chemistry theory, diagrams and practical files can slide. One fixed weekly session for board-style writing, with extra weeks before school exams, keeps the board side safe while the batch takes the evenings.

How much do CBSE home tutors charge in Kanpur?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor sets their own fee, and it is shown to you before the free demo.

How do we find a CBSE tutor in Kanpur?

Send the class, subjects, your school's medium of teaching and your locality with a landmark. You receive two or three matched tutors with their fees and choose one for a free demo class. If the demo does not suit your child, we arrange another, and switching tutor later is free.
