Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

English trouble comes in different shapes. A Panaji student may read quickly and still drop easy format marks in a letter; a classmate may follow every lesson and then sit frozen over a blank paragraph; a third may care most about speaking clearly in class or at an interview. Goa is a place of many languages, and a child who speaks another language at home may meet English mostly at school, which changes how a tutor should pitch every lesson. Our shortlist is built on four facts you give us: the examining body (Goa Board, CBSE, CISCE, IB or Cambridge), the class, the skill that lags and where you live. Two or three English tutors come back, fees attached, and the first lesson with your chosen tutor costs nothing.
A good tutor diagnoses before teaching, and a corrected school answer sheet is the quickest evidence. Look for these patterns:
The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education sets English papers for its Grade 9 semester examinations and for the HSSC, among its other examinations. Its website, gbshse.in, carries answer keys for the Grade 9 English papers from October 2025 and March 2026, and it lists a separate English paper for students in Marathi- and Urdu-medium schools. Its Grade 9 papers also cover Konkani, Marathi, Hindi, Portuguese, French and several other languages, a reminder that Goan classrooms work in more than one language. Previous years' Class X and XII papers are posted on the same site.
This page gives no Goa Board English pattern, because only the board can confirm formats and it can change them. In practice, a Goa Board student's tutor should check which English paper your child is entered for, work from the prescribed book, use the answer keys and past papers for practice, and put most lesson time into full, orderly written answers. More on the board is on the Goa Board tutor in Panaji page.
| Part | Marks | What it contains | Weekly routine |
|---|---|---|---|
| Literature | 40 | First Flight and Footprints without Feet | Two answers planned, written to the word limit and corrected for relevance |
| Reading | 20 | A discursive passage and a case-based factual passage with a chart or data | One unseen passage under time |
| Writing and grammar | 20 | Grammar 10, a formal letter 5, an analytical paragraph on a chart, map or graph 5 | One format practised, then content and linking words |
| Internal (school) | 20 | Includes 5 for listening and speaking | A short spoken recap at the end of each lesson |
With literature worth half the paper, thin answers from a child who knows the chapter well cost the most. A tutor's red pen on literature answers each week pays back faster than extra grammar drills.
CBSE English Core in Class 11 gives reading 26 marks, literature from Hornbill and Snapshots 31, and grammar with creative writing 23 (7 plus 16). Class 12 drops grammar: creative writing is worth 18, the readers become Flamingo and Vistas, and the internal 20 is made up of a project (10), speaking (5) and listening (5). For ISC, the language paper asks for a 400 to 450 word composition picked from several topics, and literature is examined separately. HSSC students should take the format from the Goa Board's own papers. Specialists for ISC, IB and IGCSE English are few, so families often find one online; the national English home tutor guide covers each course.
Before exam skills, a young child needs to read without effort. Watch for a child who guesses a word from its opening letter, keeps losing their place, or finds reasons not to open a book. Little and often helps most: sounding out a handful of new words, reading one page aloud while the tutor corrects gently, and then telling the story back. A focused half-hour does more than a long, tired session. In a home where English is seldom used, the tutor chats in English about a picture or a short story and falls back on the home language only at a real sticking point. Choose a tutor experienced with primary classes.
Yes. Oral skills are already assessed by CBSE, ICSE and ISC, so speaking practice is not a detour from board work. Lessons can end with the child summarising the passage aloud, and later move to prepared talks and mock interviews. If confident speech is a goal in itself, mention it when you ask, since it affects which tutor we put forward. Our spoken English guide for students has practical ideas. In heavy monsoon weeks, reading diaries and written pieces can be photographed and checked in an online lesson with the same tutor.
Spoken English improves fastest with short, regular practice rather than long sessions. A tutor can open each class with three minutes of conversation about the child's week, correct one pattern gently, and ask for a one-minute talk on a set topic at the end. Recording that talk once a month lets parents hear the progress for themselves.
Tutors here mostly ride or drive in, which makes a tutor living on your bank of the Mandovi the most reliable choice. Every locality is listed on the Panaji page.
| Locality | Homes | Plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Fontainhas | Old family houses opening straight onto narrow lanes | Doorstep arrival, but little parking; a weekday afternoon or early evening |
| Altinho | Government quarters and older independent homes on the hill | The quarter number shared in advance; a slot after offices close |
| Caranzalem | Ward houses with a village layout, and apartment buildings | The ward name and a landmark such as the church; weekday evenings |
| Merces | Village homes, villas and newer apartments | A regular weekday slot outside office travel times |
| Socorro | Old village homes, new bungalows and flats in seven wards | The ward name and road to Sangolda as landmarks; early evening |
If several of these were missing, let us know: another tutor from your list gives the next demo, and a later switch costs nothing. Our parents' demo checklist goes further.

An English tutor preparing a Goa Board student in Panaji should first confirm which English paper the child is entered for. The board lists a separate Grade 9 paper for Marathi- and Urdu-medium schools. Then work from the prescribed book, using the Grade 9 answer keys and past Class X and XII papers on gbshse.in.
Literature matters most in CBSE Class 10 English for Panaji students because it carries 40 of the 80 board marks, from First Flight and Footprints without Feet. Reading and writing with grammar carry 20 each, and the school adds 20, including 5 for listening and speaking. Weekly marking of literature answers pays back fastest.
In CBSE English Core, Panaji Class 11 students get reading 26 marks, literature from Hornbill and Snapshots 31, and grammar with creative writing 23. Class 12 drops grammar: creative writing is 18, the readers become Flamingo and Vistas, and internal marks cover a project 10, speaking 5 and listening 5.
For a Panaji student, ICSE English is two two-hour papers worth 80 each plus 20 internal, and ISC two three-hour 80-mark papers with 20 marks of project work each. At IGCSE, schools enter First Language English (0500) or a second-language syllabus, so ask which. IB Language A includes an individual oral. Specialists are few, so many study online.
Yes, a Panaji English tutor can help a child who hears little English at home by chatting in simple English about pictures and stories. The tutor switches to the home language only at a real sticking point. Short spoken summaries at the end of each lesson build listening and speaking, which carry marks on most boards.
Yes, a Panaji English tutor can focus on speaking confidence, but mention it when you ask, because that changes which tutor we put forward. A tutor can open with three minutes of conversation, correct one pattern gently and end with a one-minute talk. Recording that talk monthly lets parents hear progress.
English lessons in Panaji work well at home for young readers and for marking written answers beside the child, ideally with a tutor from your bank of the Mandovi. In heavy monsoon weeks, reading diaries and written pieces can be photographed and checked in an online lesson with the same tutor.
A young Panaji reader in Classes 1 to 5 needs to read without effort before any exam skill. Watch for guessing words from their first letter or losing their place. Little and often helps most: a few new words sounded out, one page read aloud with gentle correction, and the story told back in a focused half-hour.
English tutors reach Panaji localities such as Fontainhas, Altinho, Caranzalem, Merces and Socorro. Fontainhas has narrow lanes with little parking; in Altinho share the quarter number and choose a slot after offices close. In Caranzalem and Socorro give the ward name and a landmark, and keep weekday slots outside office travel times.
