Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

No two children struggle with English in quite the same way. One Srinagar student reads easily yet drops marks on the layout of a formal letter; another follows every lesson but freezes at the start of a paragraph; a third wants to speak clearly at an interview as much as to clear the board. Plenty of children use another language at home and meet English mostly in class, which changes how a tutor should pitch the lessons. Our first questions cover four points: which body sets your child's paper (JKBOSE, CBSE, CISCE, or an IB or Cambridge school), the class, the weakest skill, and your locality. A shortlist of two or three English tutors follows, every fee listed, and the first lesson with whichever one you pick costs nothing.
English splits into reading, writing, grammar, and speaking with listening, and most children are uneven across them. A useful tutor diagnoses before teaching, usually from a corrected school answer sheet:
| Strand | Warning sign on a corrected sheet | Weekly fix |
|---|---|---|
| Reading | Whole sentences lifted from the passage, or points missed in an unseen text | One timed unseen passage, with every answer traced back to a line in the text |
| Writing | Format marks lost; ideas crammed into one block with no paragraphs | A three-line plan before writing; one letter or paragraph a week, corrected |
| Grammar | The same mistake turning up in answer after answer | Errors gathered from the student's own work and cleared one pattern at a time |
| Speaking and listening | Short, hesitant replies; trouble following spoken instructions | A two-minute spoken recap to close every lesson |
Each board sets its own kind of English paper, so the practice material changes with the board:
The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education sets its own English syllabus and papers for the secondary and higher secondary examinations, and publishes its syllabus on jkbose.jk.gov.in. This page stays general about those papers, since only the board can announce formats and dates, and both can change. In practice, a JKBOSE student's tutor should teach from the prescribed books, practise with the board's released papers, check formats against the official site every session, and spend most lessons on complete, well-organised written answers, which every board rewards.
For 2026-27 the Class 10 board paper has three parts. A tutor who knows the weights can share lesson time sensibly rather than simply trailing the school's current chapter:
Literature is half of the board paper, and it is where a student who knows a story well but writes a thin answer gives away most. Correcting two literature answers each week for relevance and length does more good than yet another grammar worksheet.
In Class 11, CBSE English Core puts 26 marks on reading, 23 on grammar plus creative writing (7 and 16) and 31 on the Hornbill and Snapshots readers. By Class 12 grammar has gone, creative writing carries 18, and literature comes from Flamingo and Vistas; the school's 20 marks divide into listening 5, speaking 5 and a project 10. In ISC, the language paper includes a 400 to 450 word composition chosen from a list of topics, plus other writing tasks, while literature has a paper of its own. IGCSE families should check which English their child is entered for, First Language or Second Language; IB students face unseen-text analysis and the individual oral. Few tutors specialise in these, so online is often how families find one. Our national English home tutor guide takes each course in turn.
Reading fluency comes before any exam skill. Signs that help is needed include guessing words from the first letter, losing the line, or avoiding books altogether. Little and often works: decoding a few unfamiliar words, a page read aloud with gentle correction, then the child retelling it in their own words. Half an hour of real attention beats a tired hour. When English is rarely spoken at home, a tutor can chat about pictures and simple stories in English and fall back on the family's language only when the child is truly stuck, so listening grows alongside reading. Ask for a tutor who teaches primary classes, not a senior-school specialist.
It fits inside board work quite naturally, because listening and speaking carry marks on CBSE, ICSE and ISC alike. A tutor might finish every lesson with a short spoken summary of the day's passage, then build towards brief talks and question-and-answer practice. If spoken confidence matters for its own sake, for interviews or class presentations, say so in the request, because it changes which tutor we suggest. Read our guide to spoken English for students for practical ideas.
In Srinagar the long winter break and the short days of December and January often move lessons earlier or partly online. English is one of the easiest subjects to keep going in that stretch, because so much of it is reading and writing that can be checked from a distance:
Our article on home and online tutoring compares the two modes.
Most tutors travel by road, so the steadiest match is often someone from your own side of the city. The Srinagar home tuition page covers every locality.
| Locality | Homes | Plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Rajbagh | A residential locality by the Jhelum, known by parts such as Pathan Bagh and Kursoo Rajbagh | Afternoon or early evening, after the school-time rush on the main roads |
| Lal Chowk | Lanes and older houses behind the city's main shopping streets | Late afternoon or evening; a precise lane name or landmark |
| Sonwar | Colonies such as Iqbal Colony and Indira Nagar beside the river | Inner colonies are quiet; the main road is crowded at school times |
| Batamaloo | Family lanes behind market roads west of Lal Chowk | A slot between the morning market and evening traffic |
| Hyderpora | Independent houses and plots in a growing south-western suburb | A tutor from Peerbagh, Rawalpora or Sanat Nagar; avoid peak hours on the bypass |
| Rawalpora | Houses in colony lanes, with the door reached directly | Mid-afternoon or after the evening rush near the bypass |

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Rates are each tutor's own; class, board, familiarity with that paper, the trip at your chosen hour and lessons per week all move them. You see every fee on the shortlist ahead of the demo.
Class, board, the area of English that concerns you most, the language your child finds easiest, locality plus a landmark, preferred days and hours, and a budget. A shortlist of two or three English tutors comes back with fees attached. Tutors who join NXTutors go through an ID check before the profile is marked Verified. Srinagar parents can also look at our maths and science tutor pages, and local English teachers can browse families' requests on Srinagar tuition jobs.

An English tutor for a JKBOSE student in Srinagar should teach from the board's prescribed books, practise with its released papers, and spend most lessons on complete, well-organised written answers. Formats and dates come only from the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education, so check jkbose.jk.gov.in for current details.
For Srinagar students, CBSE Class 10 English gives reading 20 marks, writing and grammar 20, and literature 40 from First Flight and Footprints without Feet. Writing and grammar split into grammar 10, a formal letter 5 and an analytical paragraph 5. The school adds 20 internal marks, 5 of them for listening and speaking.
Yes, English tuition in Srinagar can build spoken confidence alongside board work, since listening and speaking carry marks on CBSE, ICSE and ISC. A tutor can end each lesson with a short spoken summary, then build towards brief talks and question-and-answer practice. If interviews or presentations matter, say so, because it changes which tutor we suggest.
For a Srinagar child who uses another language at home, the English tutor should explain in whichever language helps at first, then move steadily towards lessons run fully in English. Written answers stay in English from the start. A daily reading diary, short translation exercises and ready phrases for letters and paragraphs ease the shift.
A Srinagar student can keep English going through the winter break with a mix of home and online lessons, because reading and writing are easy to check from a distance. Keep a daily reading diary, send one photographed piece of writing a week, open each online session with a spoken check-in, and read next term's literature early.
A Srinagar child in Classes 1 to 5 needs an English tutor who builds reading fluency first, not exam technique, and who teaches primary classes. Short, frequent sessions work: decoding a few new words, reading a page aloud with gentle correction, then retelling it. Half an hour of real attention beats a tired hour.
ISC, IGCSE and IB English specialists can be found for Srinagar students, though they are fewer, so online lessons often fill the gap. ISC has two three-hour papers of 80 marks with project work; IGCSE students sit First Language or Second Language English; IB Language A includes unseen analysis and a 15-minute individual oral.
Many Srinagar families use home English lessons for written answers and reading aloud, and switch to online when winter days are short or no local specialist is free. A tutor from your own side of the city, such as Rajbagh, Sonwar, Batamaloo or Hyderpora, keeps a home slot steadiest; writing can be photographed and corrected online.
