CBSE home tutors in Srinagar: NCERT, the new Class 10 rules and a winter that needs a plan

CBSE schools in Srinagar follow the same national curriculum as CBSE schools anywhere, built on NCERT books and examined by the board in Class 10 and Class 12. What makes tuition here different is the setting around it: a long winter break with short days, a state board next door whose Class 11 is a board year, and the occasional move from one board to the other. This page covers what CBSE asks for at each stage, the 2026-27 changes in Classes 9 and 10, how marks are split in the senior classes, how CBSE study compares with JKBOSE, a weekly plan that survives winter, and how tutors reach six Srinagar localities. Abhinandan Tiwary writes on Class 10 maths and Aaditya Kashyap on the sciences.

Where a CBSE tutor's time should go, Class 6 to Class 12

CBSE stages for a Srinagar student
ClassesWhat mattersTutor's focus
6 to 8Number sense, fractions and ratios, basic algebra; reading science carefullyGaps closed now, before they become Class 9 problems
9A common maths and science paper, with an optional Advanced paperDeciding honestly whether Advanced suits your child
10Two board examinations, the first compulsoryFull preparation for the first; a clear decision on the second
11A school-level year under CBSE, but the base for everything in Class 12New subjects built properly; no coasting
12The board paper on the full Class 12 syllabus; practicals and internal workTimed papers, practical file, and JEE or NEET alongside where relevant

Classes 9 and 10 under the 2026-27 curriculum

In the major subjects, CBSE's secondary curriculum gives 80 marks to the board paper and 20 to internal assessment, with 33% needed to pass. Roughly half of each paper is competency-based: case passages, data, situations and applications rather than straight recall.

Class 9 students all sit one common maths paper and one common science paper. Each subject also offers an optional Advanced paper of 25 marks in one hour, built entirely of higher-order questions on extra content. It does not count in the aggregate, and a score of 50% or more is recorded on the marksheet. The older Basic and Standard split in maths is being phased out, with the 2026-27 Class 10 batch finishing under it.

Class 10 now has two board examinations. Every student sits the first. A student who passes may sit the second to improve up to three of science, maths, social science and the languages. The sensible plan treats the first as the real examination and keeps the second as a targeted repair, not a reason to ease off. A third language is compulsory in the transition years and is assessed in school. Our Class 10 maths preparation guide and the Class 10 science notes go into the topics.

Classes 11 and 12: how the marks are split

Senior secondary marks for common subjects, CBSE 2026-27
Subject (code)TheoryPractical or internal
Physics (042), Chemistry (043), Biology (044)7030 practical
Mathematics (041) or Applied Mathematics (241), only one8020 internal
Accountancy (055), Economics (030), Business Studies (054)8020 internal

The Class 12 board paper covers the whole Class 12 syllabus, and CBSE has said senior papers will lean further towards real-life application. Paper design comes with each year's sample paper, so a tutor should be using the current one. Useful reading: Class 12 physics strategies, organic and inorganic chemistry and calculus and algebra.

Teaching the competency-based half of the paper

With roughly half of each secondary paper built on cases, data and applications, a tutor who only drills textbook exercises leaves marks on the table. Competency questions are a reading skill as much as a subject skill. A useful routine has four steps:

  • Read the passage for the question, not the story. The student underlines what is given and what is asked before touching a formula.
  • Name the chapter. Most case questions hide a familiar idea, such as similar triangles, Ohm's law or a balanced equation, in an unfamiliar setting.
  • Answer each part separately. Case questions are usually split into small parts; a wrong first part should not sink the rest.
  • Write the reasoning. A bare answer earns little; one line of working or explanation is part of the mark.

Ask any CBSE tutor to show you one such question and how they would teach it. It is the quickest way to see whether they are teaching the current paper or an older one. For maths, Abhinandan Tiwary's role covers Class 10 CBSE; for science, Aaditya Kashyap's covers CBSE physics, chemistry and biology.

CBSE or JKBOSE: what changes for a tutor?

When a child moves between CBSE and the state board, the content overlaps more than parents expect; the examinations and books are where the differences sit.

Points to check when a Srinagar student moves between CBSE and JKBOSE
PointCBSEJKBOSE (from jkbose.jk.gov.in)
BooksNCERTThe board's own textbooks
Class 11School examinationsA board examination, Higher Secondary Part I
Class 10 maths and science80 board + 20 internal; about half competency-basedModel papers of 80 marks in four sections, from one-mark to four- or five-mark questions
Exam calendarNational CBSE scheduleKashmir Division date sheets and session notices

A student moving to CBSE in Class 11 should spend the first weeks on NCERT wording and CBSE's competency-style questions; one moving the other way should get the board's own books and model papers early. The JKBOSE tutor in Srinagar page explains that board in detail.

A weekly plan that holds through term and winter

A sample CBSE week for a Class 10 student in Srinagar
WhenIn termIn the winter break
MathsTwo home sessions after schoolTwo late-morning home sessions while there is daylight
ScienceOne home session, one short online checkTwo online sessions; experiments and diagrams reviewed on camera
PracticeOne competency-style set each weekendA full sample paper each week, marked with the tutor
Coldest daysNot usually neededAny home session moved online rather than cancelled

The winter break is the moment to get ahead. A student can often finish the hardest chapters of the next term during the break, which makes the run-up to the board examination calmer.

Home or online for CBSE in Srinagar?

For maths up to Class 10 and for younger students, a tutor at the table is hard to beat; they see the working as it happens. Science concept work, chapter tests and doubt sessions work well online, and in the senior classes a specialist for one subject is often easier to find online than locally. Our online tutors for Srinagar page covers the set-up, and the home or online tutor comparison explains the trade-offs.

How CBSE tutors reach six Srinagar localities

Practical notes for weekly visits
LocalityWhat helps the tutor
Lal BazarName the street or colony, such as Umar Colony or Rose Lane; sessions once students are home, since main roads are lively at school times
NowsheraOld lanes where the tutor parks on the main road and walks; after-school slots
BuchporaNewer colony houses with doorstep arrival; afternoons avoid the through traffic towards Ganderbal
HazratbalGive the neighbourhood, such as Naseem Bagh or Zakura; subject tutors for senior classes often live nearby
BarzullaThe flyover ramp makes the city-centre side quick; side lanes lead to most homes
RawalporaColony houses with no gate formalities; mid-afternoon or after the evening rush

Zones: North City, Natipora and Nowgam, Airport Road, Civil Lines and Karan Nagar and Bemina. All localities are on the Srinagar home tutors page.

Five questions for a CBSE tutor at the demo

  1. What changes in the 2026-27 Class 9 and 10 curriculum, and should my child take the Advanced paper?
  2. How will you prepare for the first Class 10 board examination, and when would the second make sense?
  3. Can you show a competency-based question and how you teach a student to read it?
  4. Which current sample paper will you work from?
  5. What is the plan for the winter break: earlier slots, online sessions, or both?

We send two or three matched tutors, each fee shown before the demo, and the first class is free; switching later is free too. See the demo class checklist.

Fees and getting started

CBSE Home Tutor in Srinagar (Classes 6–12): common questions

What should a Srinagar parent send to get a CBSE home tutor shortlist?

A Srinagar parent should send the CBSE class, subjects, locality with a landmark, and the slots that suit both term time and the winter break. We share two or three matched tutors who teach CBSE, each fee shown before the first class. The first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free too.

How should a CBSE Class 10 student in Srinagar treat the two board examinations?

A CBSE Class 10 student in Srinagar should treat the first board examination as the real one, since every student must sit it. A student who passes may take the second to improve up to three of science, maths, social science and the languages, so keep it as a targeted repair rather than a reason to ease off.

Is the optional CBSE Class 9 Advanced paper worth it for a Srinagar student?

A Srinagar CBSE Class 9 student should take the Advanced paper only if the subject already feels comfortable. Under the 2026-27 curriculum it is optional, 25 marks in one hour, built of higher-order questions on extra content. It does not count in the aggregate, and a score of 50% or more is recorded on the marksheet.

What changes for a Srinagar child moving between CBSE and JKBOSE?

For a Srinagar child switching between CBSE and JKBOSE, content overlaps more than expected; books and examinations differ most. CBSE uses NCERT and examines in Classes 10 and 12, while JKBOSE prints its own textbooks and holds a board examination in Class 11. Start early with the target board's books and model papers.

Which senior CBSE subjects carry a 30-mark practical and which a 20-mark internal component in Srinagar schools?

For Srinagar students in CBSE Classes 11 and 12, physics, chemistry and biology carry 70 theory and 30 practical marks under the 2026-27 curriculum. Mathematics or Applied Mathematics, accountancy, economics and business studies carry 80 theory and 20 internal. The Class 12 board paper covers the whole Class 12 syllabus.

How does a tutor prepare a Srinagar CBSE student for competency-based questions?

A Srinagar CBSE tutor teaches competency-based questions as a reading skill, since roughly half of each secondary paper uses cases, data and applications. The student underlines what is given and asked, names the hidden chapter, answers each part separately and writes the reasoning. Ask the tutor to show one such question at the demo.

How can CBSE tuition keep going through the Srinagar winter break?

CBSE tuition in Srinagar can continue through winter by moving home sessions to late mornings while there is daylight and switching the coldest days online rather than cancelling. The break is a good time to finish the next term's hardest chapters or sit a full sample paper each week, marked with the tutor.

Does a Srinagar CBSE student learn better with a home tutor or online?

For CBSE maths up to Class 10 and for younger Srinagar students, a home tutor at the table usually works better, because they see the working as it happens. Science concept work, chapter tests and doubt sessions suit online, and in senior classes a single-subject specialist is often easier to find online than locally.

What hourly fee should a Srinagar family expect for CBSE home tuition by class?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. In Srinagar, each CBSE tutor sets their own fee, and you see it before the free demo. Ask how many hours a week they suggest.

What should a Srinagar parent ask a CBSE tutor during the demo class?

At a CBSE demo in Srinagar, ask what changes in the 2026-27 Class 9 and 10 curriculum and whether the Advanced paper suits your child. Also ask how they will prepare for the first Class 10 board examination, which current sample paper they use, and what the winter-break plan is. Tutors who join go through an ID check.
