Now taking on home, online and hybrid tutors · in Aizawl
Why would an Aizawl family pay for English tuition when English is already the language of the classroom? Because that is exactly why it matters. According to the Mizoram board's curriculum, English is in general the medium of instruction in the schools it affiliates, so a student who reads slowly or writes thin answers loses marks in science and social science as well as in the English paper. Parents usually spot one symptom: literature answers that say little, letters that lose their format marks, or a reading passage answered from memory rather than from the text.

Literature carries half of the HSLC English paper, and that is where most Class 10 requests start. The board's question design gives English one three-hour, 80-mark paper in four sections with no overall choice. Section D, literature, is worth 40: 26 from the Main Course Book's prose and poetry through extracts and short answers of 50 to 75 words, and 14 from the Literature Reader, including a drama extract. Section A, reading, is one unseen passage of 350 to 450 words for 10 marks, two of them for word-attack skills such as word formation and inferring meaning. Section B, writing, has a short composition of no more than 50 words (a notice, message, poster, postcard, report, invitation or precis) for 5 marks and a long composition of 150 to 200 words (an article, letter, essay or diary entry) for 10. Section C, grammar, has eight multiple-choice and seven very short items on tenses, modals, voice, subject-verb agreement, clauses, reported speech and more. Length limits are strict: a 50-word notice that runs to 90 words gives marks away.
The books are the board's own for 2026-27: Essential English, a multiskill language course with a Main Course Book, Literature Reader and Workbook for Class 10, plus a grammar and usage book. Mizo is a compulsory language subject, and students who take Alternative English in its place study Morning Dew 10 and a rapid reader. The board's Class 10 item bank, issued in November 2025, includes 108 English questions with marking schemes.
Higher Secondary English moves to Hornbill and Snapshots in Class 11 and Flamingo and Vistas in Class 12. The HSSLC Class 12 paper is 80 marks over 34 questions: reading 16, including note-making and a summary; writing 24, with a notice, an invitation, a letter and an article or report of about 120 words; and literature 40. CBSE students work from NCERT, Language and Literature to Class 10 and English Core after it. Younger children and spoken English are steady requests too, and ISC, IGCSE or IB English students in Aizawl usually find a specialist online.
Most Aizawl families live in multi-storey buildings on steep slopes, some above the road and some below it, so an English tutor's round is planned by clusters and stairs rather than kilometres. The northern chain runs from Durtlang through Chaltlang and Bawngkawn to Ramhlun and Zemabawk; the board's own office is listed at Chaltlang. The central localities, Chanmari, Zarkawt and Dawrpui, can be reached from nearly everywhere, but shopping hours at Bara Bazar and office rush around McDonald Hill make start times matter, and a two-wheeler is far easier to park there than a car.
Further out, Tuikual, Vaivakawn and Luangmual are divided by deep valleys, so a tutor on the same side of a valley often arrives sooner than one who looks nearer on a map. Khatla, Mission Veng and Kulikawn break into clusters, such as Khatla with Bungkawn, Maubawk and Lawipu, or Mission Veng with Salem Veng and Venghnuai. English is one of the easiest subjects to move online on a rainy day, which helps from April to October.
Write your profile as a set of answers to a parent's questions: which board, which classes, which books, and which weak skill you fix. 'HSLC Class 10: literature answers and long compositions' is clearer than 'English teacher'. List the localities you can reach in a single trip, such as Khatla, Bungkawn and Maubawk, or Chanmari, Zarkawt and Dawrpui, and switch on online lessons for wet days and for students elsewhere in India.
At the free demo, ask for one short-answer response from the Main Course Book, a 50-word notice and a few grammar items from the board's list. Mark them on the spot and show the parent exactly where marks were lost, perhaps a notice over the word limit or a literature answer that never quotes the text. Then describe the weekly routine you would follow. A tutor who diagnoses precisely is remembered in a city where families compare carefully.

A family request that fits your subjects, classes, board, areas and hours reaches your dashboard. Credit packs are there if you need more.
You set your own fee. When a family pays for classes through NXTutors, you receive 50% of the fee for home tuition in the first month and the full fee after that, and 70% of the fee for online tuition every month. Payments are held for 7 days, then paid out weekly. How you get paid.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.
One three-hour, 80-mark paper in four sections: reading 10, writing 15, grammar 15 and literature 40, with no overall choice. The board's question design and textbook list are on mbse.edu.in.
Because English is in general the medium of instruction in MBSE-affiliated schools, so reading and writing skills affect every subject. Families often ask for help with literature answers and writing formats.
A subject some students take in place of Mizo. Its Class 10 books are Morning Dew 10 and a rapid reader. If you teach it, say so on your profile.
Yes, and many tutors do. Heavy rain from April to October slows hill roads, and English lessons move online easily. Turn on both modes and agree the plan at the demo.
They do, mostly for HSSLC students and CBSE English Core. The HSSLC Class 12 paper adds note-making, a summary and several writing formats to literature from Flamingo and Vistas.
