Durtlang, Chaltlang & Bawngkawn holds the northern localities, from the Durtlang hilltop through Chaltlang, Bawngkawn and Ramhlun to Zemabawk; Chanmari, Zarkawt & Dawrpui is the centre, around Bara Bazar and McDonald Hill; Tuikual, Vaivakawn & Luangmual reaches out to Luangmual and Tanhril; and Khatla, Mission Veng & Kulikawn covers Khatla, Mission Veng, Bethlehem and Kulikawn. Most families live in multi-storey buildings on steep slopes, sometimes above the road and sometimes below it, and road travel is the only way around the city, so a two-wheeler and a good sense of landmarks do most of the work.

The state board has its office in the city itself: the Mizoram Board of School Education, at Chaltlang, conducts the HSLC examination at the end of Class 10 and the HSSLC at the end of Class 12. Its website publishes the secondary and higher secondary syllabi, the question design and scheme of examination for both levels, the prescribed textbook lists, previous years' HSLC and HSSLC question papers, and exam routines and results. Valleys divide one locality from the next, so a tutor on the same side of a valley is often more practical than one who looks closer on a map. Boards you can teach in Aizawl

CBSE students in Aizawl may live in the same building as MBSE students, so be clear on your profile which you teach. Base lessons on the NCERT textbooks, practise with CBSE's own sample papers and marking schemes, and train students to write complete, stepped answers. The same NCERT groundwork in Classes 11 and 12 supports later JEE or NEET preparation.

Chanmari and Chanmari West sit in different wards, and Dawrpui Vengthar is a separate locality from Dawrpui, so confirm the exact address before the first class.

Deep valleys separate Tuikual, Dinthar, Vaivakawn and the Luangmual side, so check the road route before agreeing to a home, not just the map. Vaivakawn is where the central and Luangmual groups of localities meet, which makes it easy to reach from both. Tanhril, on the outskirts, has a large institutional campus whose housing may set its own visitor rules, and a tutor from the centre faces a longer ride there, especially in heavy rain.
