Now taking on home, online and hybrid tutors · in Kanpur
English tutoring in Kanpur tends to run as one or two visits a week per student, with written work set between visits and marked at the start of the next one. Because so much of the subject is reading and writing, many tutors mix a home visit with an online session, especially for older students. The year has a clear rhythm: literature chapters as the school reaches them, writing formats practised through the middle months, and full papers once the High School, Intermediate or CBSE and CISCE boards draw near.
No open english requests in Kanpur right now. New family requests appear here as they come in; join now so they can reach you.
The need behind each request varies more in English than in most subjects. One UP Board student loses easy marks on the Hindi-to-English translation question; a CBSE student knows every story but writes thin literature answers; an ICSE student needs sharper composition; and a student on any board may simply want to speak without freezing. Kanpur families also differ in how much English is spoken at home, which changes how you pitch a lesson. This page sets out who is asking, where the work is, and what a family looks for when it chooses an English tutor.
Many requests are for young readers in Classes 1 to 5. A child who guesses words from the first letter, loses the line or avoids books needs short, frequent practice: sounding out new words, reading aloud to a patient listener and retelling the story in their own words. Where English is rarely spoken at home, parents want a tutor who talks about pictures and simple stories in English and reaches for Hindi only to unblock a moment. In the middle classes the asks move to grammar, paragraph writing and the habit of answering the question that was set.
At Class 10 the UP Board sets a 70-mark English paper with 30 more from internal assessment. Literature carries 35 of the 70, split between First Flight and Footprints Without Feet; grammar carries 15, including a 4-mark task translating four Hindi sentences into English; reading and writing take 10 each. Part A is twenty one-mark questions on an OMR sheet. CBSE Class 10 English Language and Literature gives reading 20, grammar 10, writing 10 and literature 40 on the board paper, plus 20 school marks that include listening and speaking. ICSE families ask for help on the separate language and literature papers.
In Class 12 UP Board English becomes a single 100-mark paper: literature from Flamingo and Vistas carries 40, with figures of speech asked in the poetry section; grammar carries 25, including a 5-mark translation of seven or eight Hindi sentences; writing is worth 20, with an article and a letter; and reading has 15. CBSE English Core students drop grammar in Class 12 and write longer literature answers. Some older students, and a few adults, ask for spoken English for interviews or a move to English-medium study, and ISC, IGCSE and IB learners usually look for specialists online.
English is one of the easiest subjects to split between home and screen, which widens the area you can serve in Kanpur. For home visits, the five zones each have their own pattern. North-West Kanpur's Arya Nagar is mostly houses near busy market lanes, while Civil Lines mixes flats and houses north of Mall Road and some buildings ask visitors to sign in. Central Kanpur's Shastri Nagar has easy autos and look-alike colony roads, so ask for a landmark. West Kanpur's Keshavpuram uses block and plot numbers, and Panki has a railway station with an auto stand.
In South Kanpur, around Govind Nagar, Kidwai Nagar and Naubasta, homes are mostly houses and builder floors with doorstep entry, and the market roads slow down in the evening. East Kanpur's Shyam Nagar has apartment buildings with a gate entry, while Jajmau's lanes are reached with a good landmark. A practical approach is to list the localities near your home for younger readers, who do better with you in the room, and teach board students from farther away online.
On your profile, state which English you teach: UP Board High School or Intermediate, CBSE Language and Literature or English Core, ICSE, ISC, early reading or spoken English. Say whether you are comfortable teaching a child whose stronger language is Hindi. Families often choose an English tutor partly on how they sound, so a short, clear introduction in good English helps, and mention whether you offer online sessions for marking writing between visits.
In the free demo, ask first to see a marked answer script or recent test. Teach one small, useful thing from it: a translation method, a literature answer plan or a letter format. Let the child do most of the work, writing, translating or speaking for real stretches, and notice whether the balance of Hindi and English shifts towards English as the lesson goes on. Before you leave, describe the structure of the child's English paper and set homework you will mark. Families can switch tutor freely, so they stay with the one whose marking makes a visible difference; see how you get paid on the tutor terms page.

A family request that fits your subjects, classes, board, areas and hours reaches your dashboard. Opening the family's contact details uses lead credits, and the credit price is shown on the request before you open it. At most 5 tutors can open one request, and a request stays open for 7 days. Credit packs are there if you need more.
You set your own fee. When a family pays for classes through NXTutors, you receive 50% of the fee for home tuition in the first month and the full fee after that, and 70% of the fee for online tuition every month. Payments are held for 7 days, then paid out weekly. How you get paid.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.
Find the tense and voice before translating a word, rearrange the Hindi order into English order on paper, keep a personal list of the student's article, preposition and agreement errors, and practise timed sets of four or eight sentences to match the paper.
Some do, either for its own sake or because CBSE and CISCE give marks for listening and speaking. A simple progression works: a spoken summary of the day's passage, then short talks, then follow-up questions without notes. Mention spoken English on your profile if you teach it.
Yes. From roughly Class 3 upwards, English works well online if notebooks are photographed or a document is shared before the lesson. Early readers and students just switching to English medium usually do better with a tutor in the room.
Yes, literature carries 40 of the 80 board marks in English Language and Literature. A weekly pair of literature answers, planned first and then checked for length and relevance, usually repays more than extra grammar drills.
