Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

For most students in Thiruvananthapuram, accountancy begins after the SSLC or Class 10, in the Kerala Higher Secondary course or in CBSE or ISC Classes 11 and 12. It is a subject that rewards early, steady work: each chapter leans on the ones before, and a student who is unsure about journal entries in the first term struggles with partnership accounts a year later. This page helps you match a tutor to your child's course and medium, plan the two years, and arrange lessons that fit the city's junctions and office hours. The national accountancy home tutor guide explains each syllabus in full.
| Board | The exam, briefly | Tutor fit |
|---|---|---|
| Kerala Higher Secondary, commerce groups | Board examinations on the state's prescribed textbooks in both years | Teaches from that textbook, in your child's medium |
| CBSE Accountancy (055) | Three hours of theory for 80 marks, and 20 marks of project work, in Class 11 and again in Class 12 | Confident with NCERT formats and the project viva |
| ISC Accounts (858) | Three hours for 80 marks: a 20-mark compulsory part, then five of eight questions at 12 marks; two 10-mark projects | Trains complete long answers to time |
| ISC Commerce (857) | A separate descriptive subject, same paper pattern | Teaches written answers with correct terms |
A student on a Cambridge course (IGCSE Accounting 0452, or AS and A Level 9706) or in the IB, where Business Management is the nearest subject, should tell us the exact course; online lessons can reach tutors in other cities who teach it. CBSE commerce students also take Business Studies (054), which is written and point-based, so say whether one subject or both needs help.
After the SSLC, many Thiruvananthapuram students continue on the Kerala State Board into the Higher Secondary course, choosing a group of subjects; commerce groups include accountancy. We describe the course only in outline, since the syllabus, the scheme of examination and the dates are published by the board and should be taken from its notices.
When you look for a Higher Secondary accountancy tutor, ask about two things. The first is medium: a child taught in Malayalam needs explanations of ledgers, adjustments and final accounts in the same terms the classroom uses, and an English-medium student needs consistent English terms. The second is the course itself: the prescribed textbook, the order the school follows, and practice on the board's papers. The underlying discipline is the same on any board: reason every entry from the accounting equation, show each adjustment in both places it affects, and write working notes.
Every school sets its own calendar, so the plan below is a sequence of phases rather than dates. It suits a CBSE or ISC student who starts with a tutor early in Class 11; a Higher Secondary student follows the same logic through the state textbook's chapters.
| Stage | What gets built | How a tutor checks it |
|---|---|---|
| Start of Class 11 | The accounting equation, journal and ledger, subsidiary books | Unseen transactions entered without notes |
| Middle of Class 11 | Bank reconciliation, depreciation, rectification of errors, trial balance | Mixed questions where the student must first classify the problem |
| End of Class 11 | Final accounts with adjustments; incomplete records | A balance sheet that tallies on the first attempt |
| Class 12, first half | Partnership: goodwill, admission, retirement, death | A full admission question with every working note |
| Class 12, second half | Company accounts, then the chosen option, and the project or practical | Timed sections and a rehearsed viva |
| Final months | Complete papers and an error log | Marks against the board's scheme |
A student who arrives late, in the middle of Class 12, starts with a short diagnostic of Class 11 basics, because partnership errors usually trace back to weak entries and adjustments.
A Class 12 example shows why the order matters. A firm's profits for the last three years were ₹40,000, ₹50,000 and ₹60,000, and goodwill is to be valued at two years' purchase of average profits on a new partner's admission. Average profit is ₹50,000, so goodwill is ₹1,00,000. The arithmetic is quick. The marks are lost afterwards: working out the sacrificing ratio of the old partners, deciding which partners' capital accounts are credited, and carrying those figures correctly into the revaluation and capital accounts. A tutor who has the student state each step in words before writing the entry turns a long, nervous question into a routine one.
On CBSE, Class 12 theory gives 36 marks to partnership firms and 24 to company accounts. The remaining 20 come either from analysis of financial statements (12) and the cash flow statement (8), or from Computerised Accounting, which replaces the project with practical work. On ISC, Section A on partnership and companies is compulsory for 60 marks, and students choose Section B (statement analysis and cash flow) or Section C (spreadsheets and databases) for 20. The two routes need different skills, so find out which one the school teaches before the demo. In Class 11, CBSE makes Computerised Accounting compulsory for all commerce students.
The NTA's CUET (UG) 2026 bulletin sets Accountancy / Book Keeping, domain subject 301, as 50 compulsory questions in 60 minutes based on NCERT's Class 12 syllabus. Higher Secondary and ISC students should check their chapters against NCERT's before timed practice. Look at the current bulletin, since it is reissued each year.
You can request a home accountancy tutor anywhere in the city. When the weekly journey would not hold up, online lessons widen the choice.
Tell us the junction you live nearest to, as Pattom, Vellayambalam and Kesavadasapuram are served by different bus routes. A slot starting after the evening office rush keeps time; in a Kowdiar house, say which gate to use.
Allow a buffer around the Peroorkada junction while flyover work goes on, and send a map pin, since many homes are known by house name. Gated villa communities need the tutor registered at the main gate.
Many parents around Kazhakkoottam work IT shifts, so set lessons around shift changes or move one session to the weekend. Projects along NH 66 register visitors; arrange a standing entry in the first week.
Roads around Thampanoor and Thycaud are heaviest at office hours, so start after the rush. In Karamana's old streets, a tutor on foot or scooter is the easy option; agree where a two-wheeler can be parked.
The Thiruvananthapuram tuition guide and the Thiruvananthapuram home tuition page describe every area.
Accountancy errors happen one line at a time, and a tutor sitting beside the student catches them as they are written. That makes home lessons valuable in the first year, when double entry is new. Online lessons work once the tutor can see the notebook clearly, through a phone camera on a stand or a writing tablet, and homework photos arrive before the class; for Computerised Accounting or ISC Section C, a shared screen is often the better tool. Families whose working hours vary, as with IT shifts, often keep one home lesson at the weekend and one online lesson midweek.
In the outlying parts of the northern suburbs, or in a gated community where entry takes time, a hybrid plan also protects the lesson itself: the heavy written chapters such as partnership admission or final accounts with adjustments happen at the table, while quick theory revision and doubt clearing move to a shorter online call that no traffic can delay.
The demo class checklist for parents helps you prepare. If the fit is not right, another tutor from your shortlist can give a demo.

Send the board, class and medium, the Class 12 option if known, the chapters causing trouble, your locality and nearest junction, suitable times and your preferred format. We suggest two or three tutors with their fees, the first class is a free demo, and you can switch tutor later at no cost. Commerce students may also want economics tutors in Thiruvananthapuram, maths or English. For a whole board, see our CBSE and ICSE and ISC pages for the city. Choosing a stream? Our stream choice guide and Class 11 page, prepared for Gurugram, explain commerce in general terms. Tutors can find openings on Thiruvananthapuram tuition jobs.
Yes, on request. Tell us the year, the subject group and the medium of study, and we look for tutors who teach from the prescribed Higher Secondary textbook and practise on the board's own papers. The scheme of examination and dates should be confirmed in the board's official notices.
Early in Class 11 or Plus One is easiest, because every later chapter depends on journal entries, ledgers and adjustments. A student who starts in Class 12 can still catch up, but the tutor will usually test the Class 11 basics first, since partnership errors often trace back there.
Usually, if the slot is planned around shift changes, or one session moves to the weekend. Apartment projects and villa communities along NH 66 register visitors, so arrange a standing entry for the tutor in the first week rather than a call from the gate every time.
Under the 2026-27 CBSE curriculum, partnership firms carry 36 theory marks and company accounts 24. The last 20 come from financial statement analysis with the cash flow statement, or from Computerised Accounting. A project, or practical work for the computerised option, adds 20 marks, including an 8-mark viva.
It is, when the tutor can see the notebook clearly through a phone camera or writing tablet and homework is sent ahead. It suits Computerised Accounting and ISC Section C especially. Families with changing work hours often combine a weekend home lesson with a shorter online session midweek.
Yes to both. The first class with the tutor you choose from the shortlist is a free demo on your child's current chapter. If it is not the right fit, another shortlisted tutor can give a demo, and switching tutor at any later stage is free.
