Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

In Thiruvananthapuram the hard part is not finding someone who teaches maths but someone who teaches the right maths. A child on the Kerala State Board, a CBSE child preparing for the Class 10 board and an IB student writing an exploration need three quite different teachers, and each of them has to reach a home in Kowdiar, Kazhakkoottam or Karamana at the same hour every week. Tell NXTutors the syllabus and the locality. We suggest two or three maths tutors who fit both, you see what each one charges before anyone visits, and the first class with the tutor you pick is a free demo.
On this page, Ajay Vatsyayan is responsible for the IB, IGCSE and ISC maths guidance and Abhinandan Tiwary for the Class 10 CBSE and ICSE guidance. Before any talk of chapters, one question has to be settled: which board writes your child's final paper? In Thiruvananthapuram the realistic answers are these.
The state board teaches from textbooks prepared by SCERT Kerala, so the first test of a tutor is whether they teach from those books in the school's order or arrive with NCERT worksheets; a child is marked on the state book's version. We do not describe the SSLC or Higher Secondary paper layout here, because the state's examination authorities publish it and revise it; check the official Kerala examination portals, or ask the school, for the current scheme.
State Board maths tutors are usually easier to find close to home than specialists for other boards. A Plus Two student who also plans to sit JEE Main or the state's engineering entrance needs a tutor who can place the state textbook alongside the entrance syllabus and show which extra topics or depth the entrance adds. Ask about that during the demo rather than after the first test.
For 2026-27, CBSE spreads the 80 theory marks over seven units drawn from 14 NCERT chapters, and the school adds 20 internal marks. The paper design is the same as last session, so the recent sample papers are still the right practice material. The weights tell a tutor where the hours should go.
| Unit | Theory marks | Where marks usually slip |
|---|---|---|
| Algebra | 20 | Setting up the equation from a word problem, before any solving starts |
| Geometry | 15 | Proofs with a step whose reason is left unstated |
| Trigonometry | 12 | Heights-and-distances questions attempted without a sketch |
| Statistics and probability | 11 | Arithmetic errors in the class-mark and frequency columns |
| Mensuration | 10 | Combined solids where one surface is counted twice or units drop off |
| Real numbers | 6 | Proof-style questions answered with a numerical example instead |
| Coordinate geometry | 6 | Sign errors in the section formula |
Both levels share one layout. Section A carries 20 one-mark items, 18 of them multiple-choice and 2 assertion–reason; Section B has five questions of two marks, C six of three, D four of five, and E three case studies worth four each. No calculator is allowed, and π is 22/7 unless the question states another value. The difference lies in the thinking tested: roughly 54% of Standard marks reward remembering and understanding, against roughly 75% in Basic. A student who might choose maths in Class 11 should normally stay with Standard.
Since 2026 every Class 10 candidate sits a main board exam, and an optional second sitting lets students improve their score in up to three subjects, maths among them. Dates for 2027 are not out yet, so watch cbse.gov.in. For chapter-by-chapter help, see the CBSE Class 10 maths preparation guide and the Class 10 board-year planner; ICSE students have their own ICSE Class 10 maths guide, where the paper is a three-hour 80 with 20 internal marks.
Senior maths is where a mismatch between tutor and syllabus costs most.
| Course | Final assessment | First month with a tutor |
|---|---|---|
| CBSE Class 12 | 38 compulsory questions for 80 marks, calculus worth 35 of them, plus 20 internal | Limits and derivatives made fluent, because calculus fills the year |
| ISC Class 12 (2027 and 2028 exams) | One 80-mark paper over seven compulsory units, calculus 35; two projects add 20 | Vectors, 3-D geometry and linear programming, now examined for every candidate |
| IB Analysis and Approaches | SL: two papers at 40% each; HL: 30%, 30% and 20%; exploration 20% at both levels | Algebra and functions, including work without a calculator |
| IB Applications and Interpretation | Same weights; a graphic display calculator for every paper | Modelling and statistics, with the calculator used confidently |
| JEE Main (2026 pattern) | Maths was 25 of 75 questions: 20 multiple-choice and 5 numerical, +4 and −1 | Timed sets and an honest review of wrong attempts |
Each ISC project is marked out of 10: 1 for format, 4 for content, 2 for findings and 3 for the viva. The IB suggests 150 teaching hours at SL and 240 at HL, and the exploration must be the student's own; a tutor may explain the criteria and question a draft but must not write any of it. Cambridge IGCSE students sit Core, which caps the grade at C, or Extended, which runs from A* to G.

The city has no metro yet; a route is proposed and a first-phase alignment was approved in October 2025, but nothing is built. Tutors move by bus, auto or scooter, so what matters is which junctions they cross at your hour. We group localities into four zones; see them all on the Thiruvananthapuram page.
Kowdiar sits at the start of the Rajapatha, the old royal road down to East Fort, with large houses on tree-lined roads and a growing number of apartment complexes. In a house the tutor walks up to the door; in a complex, give the security desk the name once. Pattom grew around a junction of four roads, one of them NH 66, and is a main stop for buses to Thampanoor and East Fort, so tutors from across the city can reach it. Book around office hours at the junction.
Peroorkada, a corporation ward on the road towards Nedumangad, leans towards independent houses and villas, including gated villa communities where the tutor should be registered at the main gate. A flyover at the junction was cleared for construction from September 2025, so leave a little slack around peak hours while work continues.
Kazhakkoottam is the city's IT suburb, where NH 66 meets the bypass towards Kovalam and an elevated four-lane stretch, opened in December 2022, carries through traffic above the junction. Kazhakuttam railway station and frequent NH 66 buses serve it. Traffic follows IT shift changes, so weekend or shift-aware slots are easier to keep.
Thycaud lies beside Thampanoor, where Thiruvananthapuram Central, opened in 1931, faces the central bus station, which makes it one of the simplest places for a tutor to reach. In Karamana the older core has theruvu, narrow wall-sharing streets of joined houses, so a tutor on a scooter or on foot has the easier time; agree on parking before the first class.
Whatever the board, Classes 9 and 10 reward the same rhythm:
If there is no growing error log or marked timed paper by mid-year, tell us: we arrange a demo with the next tutor on your shortlist, and a change of tutor costs nothing.
For most younger children a tutor at the table is worth the trip. Online earns its place for an IB HL, ISC or IGCSE Extended student whose specialist lives across the city, for a senior student whose coaching ends late, and for homes on NH 66 at shift change. Many families mix a nearby tutor with a specialist on screen. The home tutor or online tutor article compares them.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own rates. What moves the figure is the course and class, how long the tutor has taught it, how far across the city the visit is at your chosen hour, and how many sessions a week you book. Each shortlisted fee is shown to you before the demo.
Send the class, the board and the exact course name, your locality and the nearest junction or landmark road, the days and hours that suit you, and a budget. We come back with two or three matched maths tutors and their fees, and you choose one for a free demo class. If nobody suitable can reach you at that time, we suggest online or mixed sessions. NXTutors is based in Sector 66, Gurugram, and teaches online across India; the national maths home tutor page explains how we work elsewhere. For costs and neighbourhoods in more detail, read home tuition fees in Thiruvananthapuram and the Thiruvananthapuram tuition guide.
Maths teachers who live in the city and would like students nearby can see open requests on the Thiruvananthapuram tuition jobs page.
To get matched with a maths tutor in Thiruvananthapuram, send the class, board and exact course name, your locality and nearest junction, suitable days and hours, and a budget. We come back with two or three matched tutors, each fee shown before the first class. The first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. For maths in Thiruvananthapuram, the course and class, the tutor's experience with it, the distance at your chosen hour and sessions per week move the figure. Each shortlisted fee is shown before the demo.
Name the board that writes your child's final paper, because Thiruvananthapuram has four kinds of maths course: Kerala State Board, CBSE, ICSE or ISC, and IB or Cambridge IGCSE. A State Board child, a CBSE Class 10 child and an IB student need quite different teachers. ICSE schools choose their own textbooks, so the tutor works from your child's book.
Yes, we look for Kerala State Board maths tutors in Thiruvananthapuram who teach from the SCERT Kerala textbooks in the school's order, not NCERT worksheets. They are usually easier to find close to home than specialists for other boards. Check the current SSLC and Higher Secondary scheme on official Kerala examination portals or with the school.
A Thiruvananthapuram CBSE Class 10 student should give algebra the most revision time, since it carries 20 of the 80 theory marks. Geometry carries 15, trigonometry 12, statistics and probability 11, mensuration 10, and real numbers and coordinate geometry 6 each. The 2026-27 design is unchanged, so recent sample papers remain the right practice.
Standard maths is normally the right Class 10 choice for a Thiruvananthapuram CBSE student who may take maths in Class 11. Both levels share one layout, but roughly 54% of Standard marks reward remembering and understanding, against roughly 75% in Basic. No calculator is allowed, and the school can confirm registration timings.
Thiruvananthapuram students sitting ISC Class 12 maths in 2027 and 2028 face one 80-mark paper over seven compulsory units, with calculus worth 35. Vectors, 3-D geometry and linear programming are now examined for every candidate. Two projects add 20 marks, each marked for format, content, findings and viva.
For students in Thiruvananthapuram, IB maths AA leans on algebra and functions, while AI stresses modelling and statistics. Analysis and Approaches includes non-calculator work; Applications and Interpretation uses a graphic display calculator on every paper. Both carry a 20% exploration, which must be the student's own. The IB suggests 150 teaching hours at SL and 240 at HL.
A maths tutor in Thiruvananthapuram should follow a four-stage plan for Classes 9 and 10, whatever the board. The first term teaches each chapter slightly ahead of school, ending with ten mixed questions. The second term adds a timed section weekly; before pre-boards come full papers, and the final weeks retry every wrong question from the error log.
In Thiruvananthapuram, a home maths tutor at the table is usually worth the trip for younger children, while online makes sense for specialist courses and late schedules. An IB HL, ISC or IGCSE Extended student whose specialist lives across the city benefits online. So do seniors whose coaching ends late and homes on NH 66 at shift change.
Tell us the class, board and your area. We share two or three matched tutors, and the first class is a free demo.
