Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your sector: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Class 11 is the biggest jump in school: new subjects chosen for a stream, a syllabus that is wider and more abstract than Class 10, and for many students coaching for JEE or NEET as well. A tutor earns their place in Class 11 when they start in the first term, rebuild the Class 10 foundations each subject depends on, and teach the first chapters properly, because Class 12 and the entrance exams build on them. This guide covers why marks often fall in Class 11, what the year looks like on CBSE, ISC, the IB Diploma and Cambridge AS and A Level, which subjects need a tutor in each stream, how Class 11 connects to JEE and NEET, and how to judge a tutor. Ajay Vatsyayan writes on ISC and IB maths, with the NXTutors Academic Team.
Students who scored well in Class 10 are often surprised by their first Class 11 tests. There are four usual reasons, and a tutor should find out which one applies before teaching anything:
Because the Class 11 exam is set by the school, a weak year is easy to ignore. It should not be: on CBSE and ISC the Class 12 board papers are built on Class 12 syllabuses, but those syllabuses assume Class 11 is secure, and the entrance exams test Class 11 topics directly.
If the stream decision is still open, read our guide to choosing a Class 11 stream in Gurgaon and the older parent guide on how to choose a board and stream. Once PCM, PCB, commerce or humanities is decided, four practical questions shape the tutoring plan:
| Question | Why it matters for a tutor |
|---|---|
| Which maths course, if any? | CBSE Mathematics (041) and Applied Mathematics (241) cannot be taken together, and ISC Mathematics and Applied Mathematics are also separate. A tutor must teach the right one. |
| Is an entrance exam in view? | JEE or NEET changes how the same chapter is practised; CUET and other tests matter more for commerce and humanities. |
| Is there coaching, and when? | The tutor should work around the coaching days and on the same chapters, not a parallel plan. |
| Is a board change involved? | Moving from ICSE or IGCSE to CBSE, or into the IB Diploma or A Levels, adds adjustment to the stream change. See our guide to switching boards and, for families comparing schools, Gurgaon schools by board. |
Subject changes also have deadlines. CISCE, for example, does not allow ISC subjects to change after 15 September of Class 11, and a subject cannot be offered in Class 12 unless it was studied in Class 11. If your child is unhappy with a subject, raise it with the school early.
Classes 11 and 12 are one composite course: students take at least five subjects in Class 11 and continue the same subjects in Class 12. The Class 11 exam is conducted by the school; the board exam at the end of Class 12 covers the Class 12 syllabus. Mathematics is an 80-mark theory paper plus 20 marks of internal assessment, while physics and chemistry are 70 marks of theory and 30 of practical work, so lab records count from the start.
The ISC is a two-year course after the ICSE. Students take English plus three, four or five electives, and no more than six subjects. The Class 11 final exam is run by the school, though for some subjects CISCE supplies the question papers and sets the timetable. The pass mark in each subject is 35%. See our ISC maths tutor page for the maths course in detail.
The Diploma is a two-year programme for ages 16 to 19: six subjects from six groups, three or four of them at higher level, plus the core of Theory of Knowledge, the 4,000-word Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service, which starts with the programme and runs for at least 18 months. Year 1 sets the pace for internal assessments and the Extended Essay in Year 2. See our IB maths tutors in Gurgaon page.
Cambridge International AS Level is typically a one-year course and A Level typically two. A student can take AS Level on its own, or take AS in the first year and complete the full A Level in the second. A Level is graded A* to E and AS Level A to E. For a Class 11 student, the key question is whether AS exams are sat at the end of this year, because that changes the whole timetable.
| Board | Who sets the Class 11 exam | What counts outside the written paper | Tutor's main task this year |
|---|---|---|---|
| CBSE | The school | Practicals in science; internal assessment in maths | NCERT depth plus problem practice; lab records and viva preparation |
| ISC | The school, with CISCE papers in some subjects | Practical and project work in many subjects | Full written working; keeping pace with a wide syllabus |
| IB Diploma | The school (internal tests and mocks) | Internal assessments, Extended Essay, TOK, CAS | Subject depth at HL; explaining criteria without doing the work |
| Cambridge AS and A Level | Cambridge, if AS exams are sat this year | Depends on the syllabus code; check the Cambridge syllabus document | Past papers and mark schemes for the exact syllabus codes |
Maths is the most common request: sets and functions, trigonometry, permutations and combinations, sequences, conic sections and limits arrive together, and each one depends on secure algebra. Physics follows closely, with mechanics and vectors as the usual sticking points. In chemistry, mole concept calculations and the first organic chapters decide how Class 12 goes. Each has a Gurgaon page covering both senior years: Class 11 and 12 maths, Class 11 and 12 physics and Class 11 and 12 chemistry, with the 2026-27 CBSE unit marks; for online help, see our national Class 11 maths and Class 11 physics guides. Students who took computer science as a fifth subject can ask us for a separate tutor; programming practice needs steady weekly hours, not a burst before the exam.
Physics is often the subject that needs help, because it needs both concepts and calculation while biology rewards steady reading. Chemistry help usually targets physical chemistry numericals. Biology needs a weekly revision routine with diagrams more than a tutor, unless the student is new to the board or aiming for NEET, where our NEET biology tutors in Gurgaon page shows how school and entrance biology are taught side by side, and our Class 11 and 12 biology home tutors in Gurgaon page sets out the board units for both years. Our Class 11 chemistry guide covers the syllabus. A student arriving from ICSE often has strong physics practicals but needs the NCERT style of answer; the ICSE physics tutors in Gurgaon page shows what that background already covers.
Accountancy is the usual request, because the double-entry logic in the first chapters underpins everything that follows. Economics students often need help with graphs and with statistics. Maths or Applied Mathematics needs a tutor who teaches the right course, not the engineering version by default.
The step up is in writing: long answers with structure, evidence and a clear argument. A few sessions on answer writing, with feedback on real essays, usually help more than regular tuition. Where maths is taken as an elective, treat it like a core subject.
Most Class 11 students need one or two subject tutors, not one for every subject. More than two, plus coaching, leaves no time for the practice that actually moves marks.
JEE (Main) and NEET (UG) are conducted by the National Testing Agency, and both syllabuses include a large share of Class 11 topics: mechanics, thermodynamics and waves in physics, the mole concept, atomic structure, bonding and basic organic chemistry, and, for JEE, most of Class 11 maths. A student who leaves Class 11 weak is preparing for these exams with half the foundation missing.
For the 2026 cycle, JEE (Main) Paper 1 had 75 questions for 300 marks, with 20 multiple-choice and 5 numerical-value questions in each of maths, physics and chemistry, marked +4 for a correct answer and −1 for a wrong one. NEET (UG) 2026 had 180 compulsory multiple-choice questions for 720 marks, half of them in biology, with the same +4 and −1 marking. Check the 2027 bulletins when NTA publishes them; none had appeared by early October 2026.
Board marks matter too. The JEE (Main) 2026 information bulletin set a Class 12 performance condition for admission to NITs and similar institutes through JEE (Main) ranks: at least 75% aggregate (65% for SC, ST and PwD candidates) or a place in the category-wise "top 20 percentile" of the board, which is the bulletin's own term. Patterns and eligibility are published afresh each year, so check jeemain.nta.nic.in and neet.nta.nic.in before planning around any detail.
What this means for a tutor: teach each Class 11 chapter once, properly, then practise it in two styles, written board answers and timed entrance problems. Subject by subject, our JEE maths, JEE physics and JEE chemistry tutor pages for Gurgaon show which Class 11 chapters carry the most weight. Our guides to JEE preparation in Gurgaon and NEET preparation in Gurgaon compare coaching, a tutor and both, and students coming from an ICSE, IB or IGCSE school should read preparing for JEE or NEET from an ICSE, IB or IGCSE school.
The first ten to twelve weeks decide much of the year. A tutor who starts in April or May can follow a plan like this:
Starting after the half-yearly exam still helps, but by then several foundation chapters are behind the student, and repairing them competes with new work. Our Class 12 home tutors in Gurgaon page takes the plan into the final year.
Class 11 students usually cope well with online classes, and online widens the choice when the subject is specialised, such as IB HL maths, ISC physics or A Level maths, or when evenings are taken up by coaching. Home tuition suits students who need someone beside them through long problem sets, or who lose focus on a screen. Whichever you choose, the tutor must see the working live. A common pattern is online sessions on coaching days and a longer home session at the weekend. Our online tutoring for Gurgaon students page explains the setup.

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Within that, the fee depends on the subject and board, whether entrance-level problems are included, the tutor's experience, travel at your slot and sessions per week. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each shortlisted tutor's fee before the demo. Our pricing guide explains more.
Central Gurugram, around Sector 40 and Sector 38, is within reach of tutors from most of the city, which widens the choice for Classes 11 and 12 and specialist subjects. Along Golf Course Road, in DLF Phase 3 and Sector 27, where many children study in IB, IGCSE and CBSE schools, families often want a subject tutor who knows the exact Diploma or board course. On Sohna Road, in sectors such as Sector 47 and Sector 72, recent experience with your board's papers matters more than a short drive. In Old Gurugram, around Sector 9, many tutors live nearby; for JEE or NEET alongside the board, ask how the tutor will fit around coaching timings.
On Golf Course Extension Road, near Sector 60 and Sector 61, and in the Dwarka Expressway sectors such as Sector 103 and Sector 108, a hybrid plan, with a weekly home session and online classes on the other days, keeps a specialist tutor practical.

Parents often tell us their child's school so the tutor can follow the same board and books. These Gurugram schools follow CBSE, ICSE and ISC, IB or Cambridge IGCSE, as shown on each school's own site or its board's directory, with the sector each is in. NXTutors has no tie-up with any school; tutors are matched by board and syllabus, and the list is alphabetical, not a ranking.

The syllabus is wider and more abstract: functions, trigonometric identities and limits in maths, vectors and mechanics in physics, the mole concept in chemistry. The pace is faster, there is no board exam at the end of the year to force revision, and hidden Class 10 gaps show up at once. Many students also add coaching.
In the first term, ideally April or May. The first ten to twelve weeks include the foundation chapters that Class 12 and the entrance exams build on. Starting after the half-yearly exam still helps, but by then several of those chapters are behind the student and repairing them competes with new work.
No. CBSE's 2026-27 scheme of studies lists Mathematics (041) and Applied Mathematics (241) as a combination that cannot be taken together. ISC also keeps Mathematics and Applied Mathematics as separate subjects. Choose based on the degree courses your child is considering, and make sure the tutor teaches the right course.
On CBSE and ISC, the Class 11 exam is conducted by the school, and the board exam at the end of Class 12 covers the Class 12 syllabus. Class 11 still matters: Class 12 chapters assume it, and JEE (Main) and NEET (UG) include a large share of Class 11 topics.
Yes. For the IB Diploma we match tutors by subject and level, SL or HL, who can explain internal assessment criteria without doing the work. For Cambridge AS and A Level we match on the exact syllabus, and check whether AS exams are sat at the end of the first year, since that changes the plan.
Usually one or two subject tutors, not one for every subject. In PCM that is most often maths and physics; in PCB, physics; in commerce, accountancy. More than two tutors alongside school and coaching leaves too little time for independent practice, which is where marks actually improve.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each shortlisted tutor's fee before the free demo, so you can compare before deciding.
Yes, and it often helps. Coaching sets the entrance plan and test series; a tutor clears doubts that pile up, strengthens one weak subject and keeps board-style answers and practicals on track. It works when the tutor knows the coaching timetable and works on the same chapters that week.
