Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your sector: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Most Gurugram students on the international track meet chemistry twice: Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620 in Grades 9 and 10, then IB Diploma Chemistry at SL or HL in Grades 11 and 12. The two courses share a lot of chemistry but very little in the way they examine it. IGCSE rewards precise recall, clean calculations and practical know-how; the IB reorganises the subject around structure and reactivity and asks students to interpret data and run their own investigation. This guide covers both courses as they stand for current exam sessions, the practical skills each one tests, how a tutor should support the IB internal assessment, and how IB and IGCSE chemistry tuition works across Gurugram.
The 0620 syllabus for 2026, 2027 and 2028 was updated to version 2 in August 2026; Cambridge states there are no substantial changes that affect teaching. A separate 2029 syllabus has also been published, again with no significant changes that affect teaching. Exams run in the June and November series, plus a March series in India. Every candidate sits three components.
| Route | Papers | Format and time | Weighting | Grades available |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Core | Paper 1 Multiple Choice + Paper 3 Theory | 40 questions in 45 min; 80 marks of short-answer and structured questions in 1 h 15 min | 30% + 50% | C to G |
| Extended | Paper 2 Multiple Choice + Paper 4 Theory | 40 questions in 45 min; 80 marks in 1 h 15 min | 30% + 50% | A* to G |
| Practical (all) | Paper 5 Practical Test or Paper 6 Alternative to Practical | 40 marks; 1 h 15 min (Paper 5) or 1 h (Paper 6) | 20% | — |
Across the qualification, knowledge with understanding carries 50%, handling information and problem-solving 30%, and experimental skills 20%. Students expected to reach grade C or above are meant to be entered for Extended; Core caps the grade at C. If your child is on Core and aiming higher, the Supplement content needs a deliberate plan well before entries close.
| Topics | Common difficulties |
|---|---|
| 1 States of matter; 2 Atoms, elements and compounds | Explaining with particle models; bonding and structure diagrams |

| 4 Electrochemistry | Predicting electrolysis products; half-equations (Extended) |
| 5 Chemical energetics; 6 Chemical reactions | Energy profile diagrams, bond energies, rates and equilibrium |
| 7 Acids, bases and salts | Choosing a method to prepare a salt; writing ionic equations |
| 8 The Periodic Table; 9 Metals | Group trends, reactivity series, extraction |
| 10 Chemistry of the environment | Pollutants, their sources and effects; water treatment |
| 11 Organic chemistry | Homologous series, naming, addition and substitution, polymers |
| 12 Experimental techniques and chemical analysis | Chromatography and Rf values, separation methods, tests for ions and gases |
Stoichiometry is the IGCSE topic that most often decides the grade on Paper 4. A tutor who makes mole calculations routine early in Grade 9 saves a great deal of stress later. Students whose school enters them for Cambridge Combined Science or Co-ordinated Sciences instead of separate Chemistry meet the same chemistry in a different package; our IGCSE science tutor in Gurgaon page covers those courses.
Extended Paper 4 questions on moles, concentrations and gas volumes are where many otherwise strong students drop to a lower grade. They are also among the most teachable parts of the course, because the method is the same every time:
What mass of calcium oxide forms when 25.0 g of calcium carbonate is heated until it fully decomposes, and what
volume of carbon dioxide is given off at room temperature and pressure?
Equation: CaCO₃ → CaO + CO₂ (ratio 1 : 1 : 1).
Moles of CaCO₃ = 25.0 ÷ 100 = 0.250 mol (Mr = 40 + 12 + 3 × 16 = 100).
Moles of CaO = 0.250 mol, so mass = 0.250 × 56 = 14.0 g.
Moles of CO₂ = 0.250 mol, so volume = 0.250 × 24 = 6.00 dm³.
A tutor who insists on this layout in Grade 9 finds that percentage yield, percentage purity and titration questions in Grade 10 follow naturally. If only 12.6 g of calcium oxide were collected, the percentage yield would be 12.6 ÷ 14.0 × 100 = 90%. It is also exactly the foundation IB Chemistry builds on.
The school decides whether candidates sit the Practical Test or the Alternative to Practical. Cambridge states that both require the same experimental skills and contexts; Paper 6 simply asks about experiments rather than having students do them. Notes for use in qualitative analysis are provided in both papers, so students do not need to memorise every test result, but they do need to know how to use the notes quickly and record observations exactly.
Home tuition cannot replace the school lab, and hazardous chemicals have no place at a dining table. What a tutor can do is walk through past Paper 5 and 6 questions, draw the apparatus, and make the vocabulary of observations second nature.
The IB Chemistry course first assessed in 2025 organises the subject around two linked ideas: structure (what matter is made of, from particles to materials) and reactivity (how and why reactions happen). The IB recommends 150 teaching hours at SL and 240 at HL.
| Structure | Reactivity |
|---|---|
| Structure 1. Models of the particulate nature of matter (the nuclear atom, electron configurations, the mole, ideal gases) | Reactivity 1. What drives chemical reactions? (enthalpy changes, energy cycles, energy from fuels, entropy and spontaneity at HL) |
| Structure 2. Models of bonding and structure (ionic, covalent, metallic, from models to materials) | Reactivity 2. How much, how fast and how far? (amount, rate and extent of chemical change) |
| Structure 3. Classification of matter (the periodic table, functional groups) | Reactivity 3. What are the mechanisms of chemical change? (proton transfer, electron transfer, electron sharing, electron-pair sharing) |
Students used to separate "physical", "organic" and "inorganic" chapters sometimes find this framework confusing at first. A tutor can help by building explicit links, for example between Structure 3.2 functional groups and the reaction types in Reactivity 3.
| Component | SL | HL | Weighting |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paper 1A: multiple choice | 30 questions, 30 marks | 40 questions, 40 marks | Paper 1 total: 36% |
| Paper 1B: data-based questions and questions on experimental work | 25 marks | 35 marks | |
| Paper 1 time | 1 h 30 min | 2 h | |
| Paper 2: short-answer and extended response | 1 h 30 min, 50 marks | 2 h 30 min, 90 marks | 44% |
| Internal assessment: scientific investigation | 24 marks | 24 marks | 20% |
Paper 1B's questions on experimental work mean practical understanding is examined in writing as well as through the IA. Calculators and the Chemistry data booklet are available in both papers, and no marks are deducted for wrong multiple-choice answers.
Expect an unfamiliar experiment or dataset: a titration curve, a rate graph, a table of enthalpy results. Students must read the data, calculate from it with uncertainties, and suggest improvements. Practice with real experimental contexts, not just textbook questions, is what builds speed here.
Structured questions that move from recall to calculation to explanation. Marks are lost on unbalanced equations, missing state symbols, curly arrows drawn loosely in mechanisms, and explanations that name a trend without giving the reason.
Additional higher-level content deepens most topics, for example entropy and spontaneity, and more detailed mechanisms and electron-pair sharing reactions. HL Paper 2 is also 90 marks in two and a half hours, so stamina and timing need practice.
The IA is one scientific investigation, identical in requirement for SL and HL, worth 20% of the grade. The student formulates a research question, gathers and analyses quantitative data, and writes a report of no more than 3,000 words. It is marked on four criteria of 6 marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation.
Explain the criteria; help the student judge whether their idea is feasible with school equipment and safe; teach the chemistry behind it; teach uncertainty propagation, graphing and error analysis; ask probing questions about the method and the evaluation.
Choose the research question, design the procedure, process the data, or write or edit any part of the report. The IB's academic-integrity rules apply and the school supervisor authenticates the work. Tutors we shortlist for IA support work strictly within these limits.
Good chemistry IAs usually have a narrow, measurable question (one independent variable, a clear dependent variable) and enough data points to show a trend with uncertainties. Students who leave the analysis skills until the IA window often run out of time, which is why a tutor should build them from the first term.
A few sessions in the summer before DP Year 1 can make the start much smoother. Students switching from IGCSE to CBSE Class 11 instead should see our Class 11 chemistry tutor page.
| Stage | Focus | Sessions a week |
|---|---|---|
| IGCSE Grade 9 | Particles, bonding, stoichiometry foundations; topical past papers | 1 |
| IGCSE Grade 10 | Remaining topics, full papers, Paper 5 or 6 practice | 1 to 2 |
| Summer before DP | Moles, bonding and data-handling bridge | A short block of sessions |
| DP Year 1 | Keeping pace with school; Paper 1B-style data practice | 1 to 2 |
| IA window | Criteria, feasibility and analysis skills (no writing) | 2 to 3 sessions in total |
| DP Year 2 | Remaining topics, timed papers against markschemes | 2 (HL), 1 to 2 (SL) |

We match IB and IGCSE chemistry tutors for families in Golf Course Extension Road, DLF Phase 4, Phase 5, Emaar Palm Drive, Emaar Palm Hills, Nirvana Country, Sushant Lok Phase I and Sector 56. IB and IGCSE chemistry specialists are fewer than CBSE tutors, so hybrid plans are common. Organic mechanisms and IGCSE practical questions are easiest face to face; data-based practice works well online. See all localities on our page of home tutors in Gurgaon.
Families near DLF Phase 1, DLF Phase 3 and Sector 53 often ask about the IGCSE-then-IB Diploma route followed at schools such as Lancers International School, Shiv Nadar School and The Shri Ram School; our guide to Gurugram schools and their boards lists which board each one follows.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Travel, timing and frequency move the figure, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo. See our pricing guide.
Tell us the course (IGCSE 0620 Core or Extended, or IB Chemistry SL or HL), the grade or DP year, what is worrying you, your locality and your slots. Parents often tell us their child's school so the tutor can follow the same board and books. These Gurugram schools follow IB or Cambridge IGCSE, as shown on each school's own site or its board's directory, with the sector each is in. NXTutors has no tie-up with any school; tutors are matched by board and syllabus, and the list is alphabetical, not a ranking.

To match an IB or IGCSE chemistry tutor in Gurgaon, tell us the course, such as 0620 Extended or IB Chemistry HL, the grade, your locality and your slots. We shortlist two or three matched tutors, each fee shown before the first class. The first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free.
Gurgaon students on IGCSE Chemistry 0620 sit three components: a multiple-choice paper, a theory paper and one practical paper. Core takes Papers 1 and 3, capped at grade C; Extended takes Papers 2 and 4, graded A* to G. The school chooses Paper 5 Practical Test or Paper 6 Alternative to Practical, worth 20%.
Yes, IB Chemistry tutors we match in Gurgaon teach the course first assessed in 2025, organised around structure and reactivity. The IB recommends 150 teaching hours at SL and 240 at HL. Assessment is Paper 1 (multiple choice plus Paper 1B data and experimental questions) at 36%, Paper 2 at 44% and the internal assessment at 20%.
A Gurgaon chemistry tutor can help with the IB Chemistry IA only within academic-integrity rules, by teaching skills rather than doing the work. They may explain the four 6-mark criteria, check the idea is feasible and safe, and teach uncertainties and graphing. They must not choose the question, design the method, process the data or edit the report of up to 3,000 words.
For Gurgaon students on IGCSE Chemistry, stoichiometry most often decides the grade on Extended Paper 4. Moles, concentration, gas volumes and titration calculations follow the same five steps every time: balance the equation, convert to moles, use the ratio, convert back and check units. A tutor who makes this routine in Grade 9 saves stress in Grade 10.
For Gurgaon students moving from IGCSE to IB Chemistry, the jump is real but manageable with a summer bridge before DP Year 1. Extended stoichiometry is a good base, but the IB goes faster on moles, adds shapes, polarity and intermolecular forces, and makes data and uncertainty central to Paper 1B and the IA.
For IB and IGCSE chemistry in Gurugram, many families use one home session and one online session a week with the same tutor. Organic mechanisms and practical-paper questions are easiest face to face, while data-based practice, markscheme work and IA discussions work well online. Specialists are fewer than for CBSE, so a hybrid plan widens the choice.
IGCSE chemistry students in Gurgaon usually need one session a week in Grade 9 and one or two in Grade 10. IB SL students typically take one or two in DP Year 1 and Year 2, HL students two, with two or three sessions in total around the IA window for criteria and analysis skills.
Yes, you can ask for a woman IB or IGCSE chemistry tutor in Gurgaon, and we shortlist women tutors where available. Mention it when you share your requirement. The pool for international-board chemistry is smaller than for CBSE, so allowing some online sessions can widen the choice.
Tell us the class, board and your area. We share two or three matched tutors, and the first class is a free demo.
