Sohna Road and South City tuition: which side of the road should your tutor live on?
Sohna Road and the older colonies of Central Gurgaon (Gurugram) sit side by side, but they are very different places to arrange tuition. On one side are plotted colonies such as South City 1 and Sushant Lok 2 and 3, with independent floors and short internal roads. On the other are the townships and gated societies along Sohna Road, where a single evening traffic jam on the main road can decide whether a tutor arrives on time.
This guide covers the areas in these two zones, the one rule that matters most here (which side of Sohna Road the tutor lives on), what boards and classes families ask for, when online beats home tuition, and a practical checklist for booking a demo class. It leans towards board-exam years, because that is where most requests in this part of the city are focused. To see tutors who teach along the road, go to home tutors on Sohna Road.

How home tuition works in this zone
The Sohna Road rule
Sohna Road carries heavy traffic in the evening, and crossing it at the wrong time can add a long wait to a short journey. The simplest way to protect your class timings is to prefer a tutor who lives, or already teaches, on the same side of the road as you. It is often worth waiting a day or two for such a tutor rather than taking the first available one from across the road.
The same logic applies to the service lanes and the turns into the larger townships. Ask the tutor how they plan to come in, not just how far away they live.
Colonies, townships and societies
In South City 1 and Sushant Lok 2 and 3, most homes are independent houses or builder floors. There is no guard desk in most lanes, so entry is simple, but street parking in the evening can be tight. Tell the tutor where they can leave a car or a two-wheeler.
Nirvana Country, Malibu Towne and South City 2 are larger townships, often with a mix of villas, floors and low-rise blocks, and usually with a gate at each entrance. The guard may call you when a new visitor arrives. Some Sohna Road sectors have high-rise gated societies with app-based entry, which works like any other tower: pre-approve the tutor once and the rest is routine.
Timings
In the colonies of Central Gurgaon, school buses usually drop children home earlier than in the far newer sectors, so a 4:30 pm or 5 pm class is often realistic. On Sohna Road, aim to finish the class before the tutor's own journey home coincides with the worst of the evening traffic. For board-year students with school extra classes, weekend mornings are useful for a longer session.
Travel from neighbouring zones
Tutors from Golf Course Road and the DLF side can reach Central Gurgaon easily in the afternoon. Tutors from Golf Course Extension Road can reach the Sohna Road townships, provided they do not need to cross the main road at peak time. Tutors coming from New Gurgaon are usually not practical for weekday evenings here.
Boards and classes families here commonly look for
This part of the city leans towards CBSE and ICSE schools. Requests are strongest in the board years: Class 10 Maths and Science, Class 12 Physics, Chemistry and Maths, and ICSE Maths in Classes 9 and 10. JEE and NEET foundation from Class 9 is also a common request, usually as school support alongside coaching rather than a replacement for it.
For board years, the tutor's plan matters more than their location. Ask how they will cover the syllabus, when they will start past papers and timed practice, and how they will fit around school pre-boards. Our Class 10 CBSE board-year plan, the CBSE Class 10 Maths preparation guide and our ICSE and ISC Maths guide go into this in detail.
Home or online?
| Situation | What usually works |
|---|---|
| South City 1 or Sushant Lok floor, Class 6–10 child | Home tuition after school, before the evening rush |
| Township on Sohna Road, only tutors available are across the road | Home on weekends, online on weekdays with the same tutor |
| Class 10 board year with regular unit tests | Home twice a week, plus a short online session before each test |
| Class 11–12 student with coaching after school | Online on coaching days, a longer home class at the weekend |
| Child finds online school hard to concentrate on | Home tuition, with a parent within earshot |
| Short revision burst before pre-boards | Online, as it is easier to add extra sessions at short notice |
Checklist for booking a demo in this zone
- Say which side of Sohna Road you are on, and name your colony, township or society.
- Ask each tutor where they will travel from on class days, and whether they cross the main road.
- For a township, tell the guard in advance, or pre-approve the tutor on the app.
- For a floor, sort out parking before the tutor arrives.
- In a board year, share the school's test calendar and the latest marked paper.
- Ask the tutor for a written plan for the first month, including when past papers start.
- Check that the tutor knows your board: CBSE and ICSE Maths are not taught the same way.
- Use our demo class checklist on the day.
How NXTutors can help
Tell us the subject, class, board and your colony or society, and whether you want home, online or a mix. We shortlist two or three matched tutors, you see each tutor's fee before the demo, and the first class is a free demo. If the fit is not right later, switching tutor is free. Useful starting points are Maths home tutors in Gurgaon, Science home tutors and ICSE Maths tutors.
Across NXTutors most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end. Our guide to home tuition fees in Gurgaon explains what moves a fee, and the guide to home tuition in Gurgaon covers the whole city.
Frequently asked questions
Does it really matter which side of Sohna Road the tutor lives on?
For weekday evening classes, often yes. Crossing the road at peak time can make a tutor late for every class. For weekend mornings it matters much less.
Our township has a gate but no app. How do we manage entry?
Give the guard the tutor's name and phone number before the first class, and ask whether a regular visitor can be noted down. Most gates handle this routinely.
When should a Class 10 student start home tuition?
Ideally near the start of the school session, which begins in April in most schools, so the tutor can pace the syllabus and leave time for past papers. Starting later is still useful, but the plan becomes more about revision.
Can one tutor cover both Maths and Science?
For Classes 6 to 10, many tutors can. For Classes 11 and 12, a separate specialist for Physics, Chemistry or Maths is usually better.
Is ICSE tuition easy to find here?
Tutors for ICSE are available in this zone, but check that the tutor has taught the ICSE syllabus recently, as its content and answer style differ from CBSE.
