Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your sector: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

A JEE maths tutor earns their place by doing three things a coaching batch cannot: finding the exact step where a student's working breaks, rebuilding that idea until it holds under time pressure, and keeping the whole fourteen-unit syllabus alive while school and coaching push forward. This page sets out the JEE (Main) maths syllabus as the NTA published it for the 2026 cycle, what JEE (Advanced) adds, where Class 11 and 12 students usually lose marks, three worked problems at exam level, and how a Gurugram family can plan maths tuition around school terms, coaching days and evening roads. For physics, chemistry and the wider exam calendar, see the JEE home tutor in Gurgaon hub.
JEE (Main) 2026 Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.) lasted three hours on computer: 75 questions, 300 marks. Each subject got 25 questions, so maths was worth 100 marks: 20 MCQs in Section A, then 5 numerical-value items in Section B. Scoring was the same in both sections: +4 when right, −1 when wrong, 0 when skipped. In Section B, the candidate typed an integer answer, rounded to the nearest integer, on an on-screen keypad. These details describe the 2026 cycle; check the 2027 bulletin when the NTA publishes it.
Three consequences matter for how a tutor teaches maths:
The NTA syllabus for 2026 lists fourteen mathematics units. The table gives each unit with the content the syllabus names, and what JEE asks of a student beyond a typical school test on the same chapter.
| Unit | What the syllabus covers | The JEE step up |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Sets, Relations and Functions | Sets, power set, types of relations, equivalence relations; one-one, into and onto functions; composition | Counting relations or functions on small sets; reading domain and range from a composite |
| 2. Complex Numbers and Quadratic Equations | Argand diagram, modulus and argument; roots and coefficients, nature of roots | Treating a complex equation as geometry on the plane; root conditions turned into inequalities |
| 3. Matrices and Determinants | Algebra of matrices, determinants of order two and three, adjoint and inverse, consistency of linear equations | Using properties instead of expansion; deciding unique, infinite or no solution from a parameter |
| 4. Permutations and Combinations | Fundamental principle of counting, P(n, r) and C(n, r) | Spotting over-counting; choosing whether order matters before writing a formula |
| 5. Binomial Theorem | Positive integral index, general term, middle term, simple applications | Finding a coefficient or a term independent of x quickly and without error |
| 6. Sequence and Series | AP and GP, inserting means, the relation between AM and GM | AM–GM used to find a minimum value; sums disguised as word problems |
| 7. Limit, Continuity and Differentiability | Limits, continuity, differentiation of standard, composite and implicit functions; maxima and minima, increasing and decreasing functions | Piecewise functions tested for continuity at a point; optimisation set inside geometry |
| 8. Integral Calculus | Substitution, parts, partial fractions; definite integrals and their properties; areas bounded by simple curves | Properties of definite integrals to avoid long working; sketching before computing an area |
| 9. Differential Equations | Order and degree; separation of variables; homogeneous and linear first-order equations | Recognising the type in seconds; applying an initial condition correctly |
| 10. Co-ordinate Geometry | Straight lines, centroid, orthocentre and circumcentre; circles; parabola, ellipse and hyperbola in standard forms | Conditions for tangency and intersection; choosing a parametric form to shorten work |
| 11. Three Dimensional Geometry | Distance and section formula, direction ratios and cosines, equation of a line, skew lines and the shortest distance | Shortest distance between skew lines without arithmetic slips |
| 12. Vector Algebra | Components in two and three dimensions; scalar and vector products | Using products to find areas, angles and perpendicularity in one line |
| 13. Statistics and Probability | Mean, median, mode, standard deviation, variance, mean deviation; addition and multiplication theorems, Bayes' theorem, probability distributions | Conditional probability set up from a tree; variance changed by shifting or scaling data |
| 14. Trigonometry | Identities, trigonometric functions, inverse trigonometric functions and their properties | Principal-value ranges of inverse functions; identities used to collapse an expression |

JEE (Advanced) is run by the IITs, and as of 6 October 2026 the newest brochure on jeeadv.ac.in is the 2026 one. In 2026 it had two compulsory papers, each three hours long with separate physics, chemistry and mathematics sections, and was held on 17 May 2026 on computer, with papers in English and Hindi. Negative marking may apply to some questions, but the brochure leaves the scheme to the exam-day instructions, so assume no fixed pattern for next year.
The 2026 mathematics syllabus headings were: Sets, Relations and Functions; Algebra; Matrices; Probability and Statistics; Trigonometry; Analytical Geometry; Differential Calculus; Integral Calculus; and Vectors. The headings look like the Main list. The difference is in the questions: several ideas joined in one problem, and fewer routine steps. Eligibility for 2026 needed a JEE (Main) 2026 B.E./B.Tech. result within the first 2,50,000 successful candidates (all categories), and a first Class XII appearance in 2025 or 2026, with PCM compulsory. A student may attempt it at most twice, in consecutive years.
For a tutor, Advanced work means fewer problems taken further: where does this calculus idea meet the geometry?
Every Class 11 and 12 maths course a Gurugram student is likely to take overlaps heavily with the fourteen units. The gap is rarely a missing topic. It is depth, speed and the habit of choosing a method before starting.
For the school side of the same subject, see our maths home tutor in Gurgaon page, and the Class 11 and Class 12 home tutor pages for the board years as a whole.
Root conditions, sequences and binomial coefficients feel finished after the school test, then return inside Class 12 calculus and probability, where a weak base shows as slow working.
Students who can differentiate anything but cannot sketch a function, or who integrate without first drawing the region, lose easy area and maxima questions. Graph sense is the missing skill more often than technique.
Permutations, combinations and conditional probability punish unclear thinking. Students often get the right formula for the wrong situation. The fix is to state in words what is being counted before writing anything.
Original problems in the style of the paper, each with the habit it trains.
Problem. Find the area of the region enclosed by the curve y = x² − 2x and the line y = x.
Working. First find where they meet: x² − 2x = x gives x² − 3x = 0, so x = 0 or x = 3. Next, decide which graph lies higher between those points. At x = 1 the line gives 1 and the curve gives −1, so the line is above. The area is the integral from 0 to 3 of (x − (x² − 2x)) dx, which is the integral of (3x − x²) dx. That evaluates to [3x²/2 − x³/3] from 0 to 3 = 27/2 − 9 = 9/2 square units.
The habit. Test one point to see which curve lies above before integrating. Students who skip this subtract the wrong way round, get −9/2 and then "fix" the sign without knowing why.
Problem. Let I be the integral from 0 to π/2 of sin³x / (sin³x + cos³x) dx. Find the value of 8I/π.
Working. Use the property that the integral of f(x) from 0 to a equals the integral of f(a − x) from 0 to a. Replacing x by π/2 − x swaps sin and cos, so I also equals the integral from 0 to π/2 of cos³x / (sin³x + cos³x) dx. Adding the two forms, 2I is the integral of 1 from 0 to π/2, which is π/2. So I = π/4 and 8I/π = 2.
The habit. Attempting the integral directly is long and error-prone. When the limits are 0 to π/2 and the integrand pairs sin with cos, check the property first. This is exactly the kind of numerical-value question where a clean method gives an integer answer that can be entered with confidence.
Problem. A circle has the points (1, 2) and (5, −4) as the ends of a diameter. Find its equation and the length of the chord it cuts on the x-axis.
Working. With the ends of a diameter known, the circle is (x − 1)(x − 5) + (y − 2)(y + 4) = 0, which expands to x² + y² − 6x + 2y − 3 = 0. Check: the centre is (3, −1), the midpoint of the two points, and the radius squared is 3² + 1² + 3 = 13, while half the distance between the ends is √52 / 2 = √13. Putting y = 0 gives x² − 6x − 3 = 0, so x = 3 ± 2√3, and the chord on the x-axis has length 4√3.
The habit. Check the centre and radius against the data before moving on. It costs a few seconds and catches a sign error in the expansion, the most common slip in circle questions.
Most schools in Gurugram start the session in April. The plan below follows that calendar and the 2026 timing of the two JEE (Main) sessions in January and April; adjust it when the 2027 bulletin gives the new dates.
| Period | Main focus with the tutor | Checks |
|---|---|---|
| Class 11, April to July | Diagnostic on Class 10 algebra and trigonometry; sets and functions, quadratics, sequences, straight lines | Short unit tests from the school and coaching order |
| Class 11, August to December | Permutations, binomial theorem, circles and conics, limits; school half-yearly exams handled as their own block | A mixed test on all units done so far each month |
| Class 11, January to March | Statistics, probability, complex numbers; school finals; revise the weakest three units | First full maths section under exam timing |
| Class 12, April to August | Matrices and determinants, continuity and differentiability, integration, vectors and 3D | Class 11 units kept alive through mixed sets |
| Class 12, September to December | Differential equations, areas, Bayes' theorem; first full-length papers; pre-board writing practice | Error log reviewed every fortnight |
| Class 12, January to May | First JEE (Main) session, then board exams, then the second session; Advanced-level sets for those who qualify | Mock analysis by unit, not just by total |
Students in Classes 8 to 10 who want a head start do not need any of this yet. Depth in school maths is the better preparation; our IIT foundation tutor in Gurgaon page explains what that can sensibly look like.
With school and coaching already fixed, the tutor's slot fits around both. Evening office traffic makes weekday travel unreliable, so many families keep a longer weekend home session for new work and a short online session on a free evening for the doubt list. Online maths works when the tutor can see every written line.
The balance shifts by zone. Families in Old Gurugram and around Palam Vihar often find maths tutors living close by, so two weekday home sessions are practical. Along Golf Course Extension Road, where our office is in Sector 66, and on Sohna Road, a tutor on the same side of the main road matters more than one who looks near on a map. In the newer societies of Dwarka Expressway, a hybrid plan widens the choice of specialist. Every sector and zone appears on the home tutors in Gurgaon hub.
Many students combine coaching with a subject tutor, and some prepare without coaching at all. Our guide to JEE preparation in Gurgaon: coaching or a home tutor compares the routes. If physics or chemistry is also lagging, see our JEE physics tutor and JEE chemistry tutor pages for Gurugram.

In the 2026 Paper 1, a third of the questions were maths, for 100 marks: twenty MCQs plus five numerical-value items. Right answers earned +4, wrong ones cost 1 mark, and skipped ones scored zero, in both sections. That was the 2026 pattern; check the 2027 bulletin when the NTA publishes it.
For 2026, the NTA set out fourteen maths units: sets, relations and functions; complex numbers and quadratic equations; matrices and determinants; permutations and combinations; binomial theorem; sequence and series; limit, continuity and differentiability; integral calculus; differential equations; co-ordinate geometry; three dimensional geometry; vector algebra; statistics and probability; and trigonometry.
Apart from carrying a third of the marks, mathematics was the first tie-breaker in JEE (Main) 2026: candidates with equal totals were separated by their NTA score in mathematics, then physics. A tutor who lifts maths accuracy helps both the total and the tie-break.
Yes, and that is a common way to use one. The tutor works from the coaching sheets and test papers, clears the doubt list, repairs the weak units and keeps older chapters in mixed practice. Share the coaching days when you ask for tutors so the slot fits around them and the evening traffic.
Yes, provided every written line is visible to the tutor, through a second camera on the notebook or a tablet. Many Gurugram families keep one weekend home session for new topics and an online session on a free weekday evening for doubts.
Yes, though Advanced needs a tutor comfortable with multi-concept problems, not just Main-level practice. Entry runs through JEE (Main): for 2026, a Paper 1 result within the first 2,50,000 successful candidates was required. The brochure on jeeadv.ac.in sets the papers and eligibility for each year.
Yes. The first step is a unit-by-unit comparison of the school course with the 14 NTA units, so the tutor knows what to add and when. IB Diploma families should also read the qualifying-examination conditions in the current NTA bulletin before planning.
