Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your sector: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Before you book an IGCSE science tutor, find out which of three Cambridge routes your child is on. Combined Science 0653 is one IGCSE covering biology, chemistry and physics. Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 covers the same three sciences in more depth and is awarded as a double grade such as AA or BC. The separate sciences, Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625, are three full IGCSEs. The route decides how much content there is, how long the papers are and which grades are possible, so it decides what a tutor must teach. This guide sets the three side by side from Cambridge's own syllabuses, shows where students lose marks, works three short examples, and explains how IGCSE science tuition is planned for families across Gurugram.
Schools choose the route, sometimes per student. Ask the school office for the syllabus code on your child's entry before anything else, because "IGCSE science" on a report card can mean any of these.
| Combined Science 0653 | Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 | Separate sciences 0610, 0620, 0625 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What you get | One IGCSE grade | A double award (two grades shown together, e.g. AB) | Three IGCSE grades |
| Grade range, Extended | A* to G | A*A* to GG | A* to G in each |
| Grade range, Core | C to G | CC to GG | C to G in each |
| Content sections | Biology B1–B16, Chemistry C1–C12, Physics P1–P5 | Biology B1–B19, Chemistry C1–C12, Physics P1–P6 | The full syllabus of each subject |
| Theory paper | 80 marks, 1¼ hours | 120 marks, 2 hours | 80 marks, 1¼ hours, per subject |
| Guided learning hours (Cambridge guidance) | About 130 | About 260 | About 130 per subject |
| Current syllabus years | 2025–2027 | 2025–2027 | 2026–2028 |
All routes are examined in the June and November series, and Cambridge lets schools in India enter candidates in March as well. Cambridge has already published 2028–2029 syllabuses for 0653 and 0654, so check that your tutor is working from the version for your child's exam year. A student cannot sit 0653 or 0654 in the same series as any of the separate sciences, or both 0653 and 0654 together. Our guide to separate, co-ordinated and combined science in Gurgaon looks at how families weigh the choice when a school offers more than one.
The chemistry headings are the same twelve in both syllabuses, but the detail underneath is not. The clearest way to see the difference is topic by topic:
| Science | In 0654, not listed in 0653 | What it means for tuition |
|---|---|---|
| Biology | Coordination and response (nerves, hormones, homeostasis), Inheritance, Variation and selection | Genetics crosses and nervous control are often the hardest biology in Grade 10; 0653 students skip them |
| Chemistry | Relative masses, the mole and the Avogadro constant; a separate acid–base titrations section; isotopes; giant covalent and metallic structures; naming organic compounds and alcohols | Mole calculations are the single biggest step up; an 0654 Extended student needs them drilled |
| Physics | Simple magnetism and a full electromagnetic effects section; Nuclear physics (the nucleus, radioactivity) | 0653 physics has no nuclear section and treats generators and motors only within its electricity topic |
So a Combined Science student is not doing "easier science"; they are doing a narrower course in roughly half the teaching time. An 0654 student, in effect, carries two IGCSEs' worth of science, and their week needs to show it.
Both 0653 and 0654 use the same three-paper pattern as the separate sciences. Every candidate sits a multiple-choice paper of 40 four-option questions in ¾ hour (30% of the grade), a theory paper of short-answer and structured questions (50%), and one practical paper (20%).
The tier is usually settled during Grade 10 from school tests. If your child sits near the line, the useful work in Grade 9 is Supplement content and Extended-style theory questions, so the evidence is there before the school decides. Cambridge's assessment objectives give half the credit to knowledge with understanding, three tenths to handling information and problem-solving and one fifth to experimental skills, which is why recall alone stalls at a B or C.
These are original questions in the style of the Core and Extended papers, written by our academic team to show the working a tutor should expect.
A stone has a mass of 54 g. It is lowered into a measuring cylinder and the water level rises from 30.0 cm³ to 50.0 cm³. Find its density and say whether it floats in water.
Volume = 50.0 − 30.0 = 20.0 cm³. Density = mass ÷ volume = 54 ÷ 20.0 = 2.7 g/cm³ (2700 kg/m³). Water has a density of 1.0 g/cm³, so the stone is denser and sinks. Marks are lost for writing the volume as 50 cm³, for leaving out units, and for saying "it is heavy" instead of comparing densities.
A photograph of a pollen grain is 48 mm across and is labelled ×1,500. How wide is the real grain?
Actual size = image size ÷ magnification = 48 ÷ 1,500 = 0.032 mm. Extended students may then be asked to convert: 0.032 mm × 1000 = 32 µm. The usual slip is multiplying by 400 instead of dividing; a quick sense check (a cell is far smaller than its drawing) catches it.
Magnesium reacts with dilute hydrochloric acid. Write the balanced equation with state symbols, then (0654 Extended only) find the volume of hydrogen at room temperature and pressure from 0.48 g of magnesium.
Mg(s) + 2HCl(aq) → MgCl₂(aq) + H₂(g). Both routes expect this much. For 0654 Extended: moles of Mg = 0.48 ÷ 24 = 0.020 mol. The equation gives 1 mol H₂ per mol Mg, so 0.020 mol H₂. Volume = 0.020 × 24 dm³ = 0.48 dm³ = 480 cm³. Combined Science 0653 does not list the mole, so a tutor teaching an 0653 student moles is spending time the paper will not reward.
For 0653, and for most 0654 students in Grade 9, one science tutor who is comfortable across all three is usually the better plan. The papers mix the sciences, the depth is manageable, and one person keeps a single error log across biology, chemistry and physics. It is also easier to arrange one regular slot than three.
For an 0654 Extended student aiming at A*A* or AA, or a student on the separate sciences, specialists start to make sense, usually for the science that is weakest. Chemistry calculations and physics electricity are the usual candidates. A common pattern is one all-round tutor for the main slot plus a few targeted sessions with a specialist before the mocks. For a single science, see our IGCSE biology tutors in Gurgaon, IGCSE physics tutors in Gurgaon and IB and IGCSE chemistry tutors in Gurgaon pages.
| Period | Focus | Sessions a week |
|---|---|---|
| Grade 9, first term | Follow the school's order; particles, cells, forces and motion; set up one error log for all three sciences | 1 |
| Grade 9, second term | Topic past-paper questions; equations and calculations; first practical-style questions | 1 to 2 |
| Grade 10, until mocks | Finish content; Supplement topics if aiming for Extended; mixed-science theory practice | 2 |
| Mocks to the exam series | Full timed papers marked against Cambridge mark schemes; Paper 5 or 6 drills; error review | 2 to 3 |
Plan backwards from the series your child is entered for. A March entry in India brings the exam about three months earlier than a June entry, which shortens the post-mock phase. Ask the school for its mock dates early, so the tutor can place full papers before them rather than after.
Cambridge recommends that students starting these courses have studied a lower-secondary science curriculum, Cambridge Lower Secondary or an equivalent national framework. Students joining from CBSE or ICSE in Class 8 usually know the content but not the style: multiple-choice under time, practical-paper questions and command words. For those years, see our Class 9 science tutors in Gurgaon and Class 10 science tutors in Gurgaon pages.
After IGCSE, Cambridge says 0653 students with A* to C, and 0654 students with A*A* to CC, are well prepared for a wide range of further courses. In practice, students heading for IB Diploma sciences, A Levels or CBSE Class 11 science from 0653 have less chemistry and physics behind them, especially the mole, genetics and radioactivity, and a short bridging block in the summer helps. Our IGCSE tutors in Gurgaon page covers the other IGCSE subjects and what comes after Grade 10.
The first class is a free demo. You get two or three matched tutors, see each tutor's fee before the demo, and switching tutor later is free. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID. Our page on how we check tutors explains what that covers.
We match IGCSE science tutors across the city, including families along Golf Course Extension Road, Sohna Road and in New Gurugram. Home sessions are easiest where a tutor who knows the Cambridge sciences lives nearby, for instance around DLF Phase 5, Sector 54, Nirvana Country or Sector 67. Evening traffic on the main roads makes a slot straight after school or later in the evening easier to keep than one at the peak.
Further out, for example in Sector 82, a hybrid plan widens the choice: a weekend home session for practical-paper work and drawing, and a weekday online session for calculations and past papers, with the student's notebook on camera. The schools block on this page lists which Gurugram schools follow Cambridge, and our guide to Gurugram schools by board explains how that affects your choice of tutor. For all science boards, see science home tutors in Gurgaon.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Our home tuition fees in Gurgaon post explains what moves the figure.
Tell us the syllabus code and tier (for example "0654 Extended, Paper 6"), the grade, the exam series, your sector or society and your free slots. We shortlist two or three tutors and the first class is free. You can also browse every sector and zone on our page of home tutors in Gurgaon.
Parents often tell us their child's school so the tutor can follow the same board and books. These Gurugram schools follow Cambridge IGCSE, as shown on each school's own site or its board's directory, with the sector each is in. NXTutors has no tie-up with any school; tutors are matched by board and syllabus, and the list is alphabetical, not a ranking.

Both cover biology, chemistry and physics. Combined Science 0653 is a single IGCSE with grades A* to G, about 130 guided learning hours and an 80-mark theory paper. Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 is a double award graded A*A* to GG, with about 260 guided learning hours, a 120-mark theory paper and extra content such as the mole, inheritance and nuclear physics.
Not in the same exam series. Cambridge does not allow 0653 or 0654 to be combined with Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 or Physics 0625 (or with each other) in one series. The school decides the route, so ask the exams office which code your child is entered for.
For Combined Science, and for most Co-ordinated Sciences students in Grade 9, one tutor who teaches all three sciences works well, because the papers mix the sciences and one error log covers everything. For an 0654 Extended student aiming high, or for separate sciences, add a specialist for the weakest subject, often chemistry calculations or physics electricity.
Every candidate sits one practical paper worth 20%, either a hands-on lab exam (Paper 5) or a written paper about experiments (Paper 6), whichever the school chooses. Real experiments belong in the school lab; at home, the tutor rehearses the skills both papers mark: planning a method, naming variables, results tables with units, graphs, and suggesting improvements.
Cambridge offers 0653, 0654 and the separate sciences in the June and November series, and schools in India can also enter candidates in March. The entry is made by your child's school, so confirm the series early and count the revision months back from it.
Cambridge says students with grades A* to C in 0653 are well prepared for a wide range of further courses. In practice, 0653 does not list the mole, genetics or nuclear physics, so a student moving to IB, A Level or CBSE Class 11 science benefits from a short bridging block on those topics before the new course starts.
