Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your sector: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

A Class 10 maths tutor in Gurgaon has one job above all others: prepare the student for the exact paper they will sit. In this city "Class 10 maths" means five different exams: CBSE Standard or Basic, ICSE, IGCSE Core or Extended, and the Haryana Board paper. This page sets out what each contains for the 2026-27 session, where students lose marks, three worked examples, and how a home tutor plans the year from April to the exam.
Every later decision depends on this. The table summarises each board's own 2026-27 documents.
| Board and paper | Written exam | Marks earned in school | The point to remember |
|---|---|---|---|
| CBSE Mathematics Standard (041) | 80 marks, 3 hours | 20: pen-paper tests and multiple assessment 10, portfolio 5, lab practical 5 | About 22% of the paper is analysis and higher-order work |
| CBSE Mathematics Basic (241) | 80 marks, 3 hours, same chapters | 20, same split | About 75% is remembering and understanding; still available to the 2026-27 Class 10 batch |
| ICSE Mathematics (51), 2027 exam | One paper, 80 marks, 3 hours | 20: at least two assignments, marked by the teacher (10) and an external examiner (10) | Some questions may need log and trigonometric tables |
| Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics (0580) | Core: Papers 1 and 3, 80 marks each. Extended: Papers 2 and 4, 100 marks each, 2 hours each | None; fully examined | One paper in each tier is non-calculator |
| Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics (0606) | Paper 1 (non-calculator) and Paper 2 (calculator), 80 marks and 2 hours each | None | Not tiered; grades A* to E; runs up to calculus |
| Haryana Board Mathematics (009) | 80 marks, 3 hours, 38 questions | 20: two SATs 4, half-yearly 2, pre-board 2, class participation 2, project 5, attendance 5 | The board lists the subject as "Mathematics (Basic & Standard)" |
If you are not sure which paper applies, ask the school before the tutor starts: for CBSE the Standard or Basic choice is recorded in the school's list of candidates, and for IGCSE the school decides the tier and series. For the other Class 10 subjects and the all-subject view of the year, see our Class 10 home tutor page for Gurgaon.
CBSE's 2026-27 curriculum keeps the NCERT book "Mathematics" and fifteen chapters in seven units, shared by Standard and Basic.
| Unit | Chapters | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Number Systems | Real Numbers | 6 |
| Algebra | Polynomials; Pair of Linear Equations in Two Variables; Quadratic Equations; Arithmetic Progressions | 20 |
| Coordinate Geometry | Coordinate Geometry | 6 |
| Geometry | Triangles; Circles | 15 |
| Trigonometry | Introduction to Trigonometry; Trigonometric Identities; Heights and Distances | 12 |
| Mensuration | Areas Related to Circles; Surface Areas and Volumes | 10 |
| Statistics and Probability | Statistics; Probability | 11 |
Two syllabus lines tell a tutor where to stop: heights-and-distances problems should not involve more than two right triangles, with angles of elevation or depression of only 30°, 45° and 60°, and only simple trigonometric identities are to be set. Heavy guidebooks often go well beyond both.
In the Standard paper roughly 54% of the marks test remembering and understanding, 24% applying and 22% analysing, evaluating and creating. In Basic the split is about 75%, 15% and 10%. Basic suits a student sure that maths ends after Class 10; decide with the school and check Class 11 options before the list of candidates is final. This is the last year the choice exists in its current form: CBSE is discontinuing the Basic/Standard scheme, and students entering Class 9 in 2026-27 move to a common paper with an optional Advanced level instead. Our CBSE maths tutor page explains that new ladder from Class 6 upward.
CBSE introduced two Class 10 board examinations from 2026. Under the notification, every student must appear in the first (main) exam, which begins in mid-February. The second exam is held in May, and a student who has passed may use it to improve in up to three subjects from Science, Mathematics, Social Science and the languages. Internal assessment is done only once, before the main exam. Missing the main exam in three subjects or more rules out the May sitting: CBSE puts such a student in its "Essential Repeat" category, with the next chance the following February. In 2026 the main exam ran from 17 February to 11 March and the second from 15 to 21 May, and for regular students the better of the two performances counted. Until CBSE publishes the 2027 schedule, treat any date circulating online as unconfirmed.
For maths, plan for February as the real exam; the May sitting is a safety net, not a second preparation season. CBSE sets roughly half of each board paper as competency questions built on cases, sources, data or real applications, so those belong in practice from the first month. The calendar for every subject is in our month-by-month CBSE Class 10 plan.
For the 2027 examination CISCE keeps a single written paper (three hours, 80 marks) and 20 internal marks. The content is broader than CBSE's, and three areas have no CBSE equivalent at this level: commercial mathematics (GST, recurring deposit accounts, shares and dividends), matrices, and loci. Coordinate geometry goes further too, with reflection and the equation of a line in slope-intercept and two-point form.
| Heading | Main content | Syllabus limits |
|---|---|---|
| Commercial Mathematics | GST with CGST and SGST; recurring deposits; shares and dividends | No brokerage, no fractional shares |
| Algebra | Linear inequations; quadratic equations; ratio and proportion; factor and remainder theorems; matrices; AP and GP; coordinate geometry | Polynomials of degree 3 or less |
| Geometry | Similarity (SSS, SAS, AA); loci; circle theorems; constructions | Similarity criteria applied without proof; loci proofs not required |
| Mensuration | Cylinder, cone, sphere; combined solids; melting and recasting | No frustum problems |
| Trigonometry | Identities; heights and distances using tables | No cases with more than two right-angled triangles |
| Statistics and Probability | Mean by direct, short-cut and step-deviation methods; histogram; less-than ogive with median, quartiles and inter-quartile range; simple probability | Single events only |
The 20 internal marks come from at least two assignments, judged separately by the subject teacher and an external examiner. For the full ICSE ladder from Class 6 and the habits examiners reward, see our ICSE maths tutor page; for the section layout of the paper, use the current CISCE specimen paper.
Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics (0580) has one syllabus for the 2025, 2026 and 2027 exams, and Cambridge says the 2028–2030 version brings no significant teaching changes. Its nine content areas run from Number through algebra, geometry and trigonometry to transformations, vectors, probability and statistics. Two decisions shape a Grade 10 tutor's work more than the topic list does.
Cambridge offers the June and November series everywhere and a March series for India, so classmates may sit at different points of the year. Grades are A* to G or 9 to 1. Students who also take Additional Mathematics (0606) face two 80-mark papers, one without a calculator, covering functions, logarithms, circular measure, permutations and combinations, vectors and calculus. That is a natural step towards IB or A-level maths, and Ajay Vatsyayan, who teaches IGCSE and IB mathematics, writes the IGCSE parts of this guide. Our IGCSE maths tutor page covers Grades 9 and 10 in more detail.
The Board of School Education Haryana teaches from the NCERT Class 10 book, and its seven units carry exactly the marks CBSE gives them. What differs is the paper: the 2026-27 design, the same for Standard and Basic, has 38 questions in five sections.
| Section | Marks | Made up of |
|---|---|---|
| A | 20 | Twenty one-mark items: MCQs (12), one-word answers (3), blanks to fill (3) and assertion-reason pairs (2) |
| B | 10 | Five very short answers worth 2 each |
| C | 18 | Six short answers worth 3 each |
| D | 20 | Four long answers worth 5 each |
| E | 12 | Three case- or source-based questions worth 4 each |
The Standard paper puts 43 marks on knowledge and understanding, 19 on application and 18 on skill; Basic puts 60, 12 and 8. BSEH also publishes a suggested month-wise teaching order that differs from many CBSE schools: statistics and probability in July, triangles and coordinate geometry in August, arithmetic progressions in September, trigonometry in October, circles and areas related to circles in November, surface areas and volumes in December, then revision and an annual exam in March. Five of the 20 internal marks come from attendance, so regular school attendance is part of the maths plan. Our Haryana Board tutor page covers the board as a whole.
Class 10 maths leans directly on Class 9: quadratic equations need its factorisation and identities, similar triangles assume congruence is secure, and combined solids extend its mensuration. When a Class 10 student struggles early in the year, the cause is usually a Class 9 gap, and a short targeted repair beats more Class 10 exercises; our Class 9 maths tutor page covers that year. Looking ahead, Class 11 needs algebraic fluency, trigonometric ratios and coordinate geometry, so memorising a table of values is not enough. Students thinking about JEE can read our IIT foundation tutor page on keeping foundation work from crowding out board preparation.
The usual losses fall into four kinds, each with a different fix, which is why a tutor should see marked test papers before planning.
"For what value of k are the roots equal?" Students know the formula but apply the wrong condition. A one-page summary of discriminant and consistency conditions, tested weekly, fixes most of these.
A badly drawn figure in heights and distances or circle theorems leads to the wrong triangle. Insist on a labelled diagram before any calculation, even for a two-mark question.
Grouped mean, median and mode are mechanical; marks go on class boundaries, cumulative frequency and copying between columns. Neat tables and a check of the frequency total fix it.
Case-based items in CBSE and HBSE, word-heavy commercial maths in ICSE and command words in IGCSE all punish students who only practised textbook phrasing. Mixed, unseen questions every week build the habit of reading for the maths.
These are original questions written for this page, at the level of the board papers.
Find k if x² − 10x + k = 0 has two equal real roots, and find the root. Equal roots need the discriminant to be zero: b² − 4ac = 0. Here a = 1, b = −10, c = k, so 100 − 4k = 0, giving k = 25. The equation becomes x² − 10x + 25 = 0, that is (x − 5)² = 0, so the repeated root is x = 5. Marks typically go for stating the condition, substituting correctly and solving; a bare "k = 25" leaves most of them on the table.
A student's family deposits ₹1,500 a month for 12 months at 8% per annum. Find the interest and the maturity value. Using the syllabus formula I = P × n(n + 1)/(2 × 12) × r/100: n(n + 1)/24 = (12 × 13)/24 = 6.5, so I = 1,500 × 6.5 × 8/100 = ₹780. The maturity value is P × n + I = 18,000 + 780 = ₹18,780. ICSE examiners expect the formula written first, then the substitution, then a closing sentence with units.
From a point on level ground, the angle of elevation of a tower's tip is 30°. After walking 20 m towards the tower it is 60°. Find the height. Let the height be h and the second distance x. From the nearer point, tan 60° = h/x, so x = h/√3. From the first point, tan 30° = h/(x + 20), so x + 20 = h√3. Subtracting, h√3 − h/√3 = 20, which simplifies to 2h/√3 = 20 and h = 10√3 ≈ 17.32 m. This is exactly the two-triangle, standard-angle case the CBSE and BSEH syllabuses describe. Writing the two equations side by side, before any arithmetic, is what earns the method marks.
The shape is the same on every board (learn, consolidate, test, rehearse); the timing depends on the exam date and the school's chapter order.
| Term | Common to all | Board-specific adjustment |
|---|---|---|
| April to June | Diagnose Class 9 gaps; keep pace with the first chapters; start an error log | ICSE: begin commercial maths early, as it is pure practice. IGCSE: confirm tier and series with the school |
| July to September | Chapter tests with full working; first timed half-papers before the half-yearly | CBSE and HBSE: weekly case-based items. HBSE: follow the board's July to September chapter order |
| October to December | Finish the syllabus; repair the weakest units from the half-yearly; complete internal assessment work | ICSE: assignments for the external examiner. IGCSE March or June entrants: begin full past papers |
| Pre-boards to exam | Full papers under time, marked strictly; revision from the error log | CBSE: aim everything at February; decide on the May exam only after results. IGCSE: separate non-calculator practice |
Two sessions a week is the usual rhythm, rising nearer the exam for students who need supervised full papers. Joining late, after the pre-boards, still helps with speed and layout; foundations need the earlier months.
The first class with NXTutors is a free demo, and it is worth using as an interview with a real maths question in it:
Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID. You can read how we check tutors. If the fit is wrong, we line up a demo with another shortlisted tutor, and a later change of tutor is free. For a national view of the class, see our Class 10 maths tutor guide; if science is also a worry, our Class 10 science home tutor page covers the other half of the board year.
Most Gurugram schools start the session in April and break for summer around June, the easiest time to fix Class 9 gaps. From October the calendar fills with festivals and internal assessment deadlines, so fixed weekly evenings hold up better than sessions booked week to week.
Evening traffic decides which tutor can reach you: a cross-city drive at office closing time arrives late, so we match on travel at your slot. Families around Sector 49 and South City 2 on the Sohna Road side usually find CBSE maths tutors close by. In Sector 57 and the Golf Course Extension Road societies, a mix of ICSE and IGCSE requests means we often look a little wider. In Palam Vihar and the older sectors, tutors who know both CBSE and Haryana Board papers are common.
At home the tutor sees working as it is written; online works for focused students if the notebook is on camera. Many families combine one home and one online session a week. See the schools families ask about below.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each shortlisted tutor's fee before the demo. Our guide to home tuition fees in Gurgaon explains what moves it.
Tell us the board and paper (CBSE Standard or Basic, ICSE, IGCSE Core or Extended, or Haryana Board), the units that worry you, where you live and when your child is free. Two or three matched tutors come back on a shortlist, and you pick who gives the demo. Maths beyond Class 10 is on our maths home tutors in Gurugram page; sectors and zones are all on our page of home tutors in Gurgaon.
Parents often tell us their child's school so the tutor can follow the same board and books. These Gurugram schools follow CBSE, ICSE and ISC, IB or Cambridge IGCSE, as shown on each school's own site or its board's directory, with the sector each is in. NXTutors has no tie-up with any school; tutors are matched by board and syllabus, and the list is alphabetical, not a ranking.

Yes. CBSE is phasing out the Basic/Standard scheme, but this year's Class 10 batch is exempt from the change and may opt for Mathematics Basic (241) or Mathematics Standard (041). Students entering Class 9 in 2026-27 move to a common paper with an optional Advanced level instead.
Prepare for the February main exam as the real one. Every student must sit it, internal assessment is done only once before it, and the May exam lets a student who has passed improve in up to three subjects, maths included. Missing the main exam in three or more subjects rules out the May sitting. Check cbse.gov.in for the 2027 dates.
In the 2026-27 CBSE course structure, Algebra (polynomials, linear equations, quadratic equations and arithmetic progressions) carries 20 of the 80 marks. Next come Geometry (15) and Trigonometry (12), then Statistics and Probability (11) and Mensuration (10); Real Numbers and Coordinate Geometry carry 6 apiece.
It is broader. The ICSE syllabus for the 2027 exam adds commercial mathematics (GST, recurring deposits, shares and dividends), matrices, loci and more coordinate geometry, and some questions may need log and trigonometric tables. Both boards set an 80-mark, 3-hour paper with 20 internal marks; in ICSE those come from assignments marked by the teacher and an external examiner.
Yes, before anything else. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 grades its Core tier from C down to G and its Extended tier from A* to E, with different papers for each. One paper in each tier is non-calculator, so a tutor should also plan regular hand-calculation practice.
BSEH's 2026-27 design runs for three hours and 80 marks across five sections, A to E: twenty one-mark objective items, then five 2-mark, six 3-mark and four 5-mark answers, and finally three case- or source-based questions at 4 marks each. The other 20 marks are internal, including 5 for attendance.
April to July is the most useful window, because it leaves time to repair Class 9 gaps before the half-yearly exam. Starting after the pre-boards still improves speed and layout, but there is no longer time to rebuild foundations.
Tell us the board and paper, the weak units, your sector or society and the evenings that suit you. Two or three tutors able to reach you at that hour come back on a shortlist, each fee is shown before the free demo, and changing tutor later costs nothing.
Tell us the class, board and your area. We share two or three matched tutors, and the first class is a free demo.
