Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your sector: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

CBSE maths is a ladder. Each NCERT book assumes the one before it, and the 2026-27 session has changed several rungs at once: new books in the middle years, a new Class 9 book called Ganita Manjari with an optional Advanced paper, and the last year of the Standard/Basic choice in Class 10. A good CBSE maths tutor in Gurugram knows which version of the ladder your child is on, works from the NCERT book first, and teaches the step-by-step working that CBSE marking rewards. Below: each rung from Class 6 to Class 10, how CBSE builds its question papers, and worked examples showing what "show your steps" means in practice.
The textbook titles below are the ones NCERT lists for each class. Schools assess Classes 6 to 9 themselves; Class 10 brings the first board exam. Because CBSE runs Classes 9 and 10 as a single two-year course, a subject choice made in Class 9 should be one the student means to keep.
| Class | NCERT maths book | Who assesses | What the year should leave behind |
|---|---|---|---|
| Class 6 | Ganita Prakash | School | Confident number sense, fractions and decimals, and the habit of writing working down |
| Class 7 | Ganita Prakash and Ganita Prakash-II | School | Comfort with letters standing for numbers; ratio and percentage without fear |
| Class 8 | Ganita Prakash Part-I and Part-II | School | Fluent expansion and simplification; geometric reasons stated, not guessed |
| Class 9 | Ganita Manjari (Part I and Part II) | School, following a pattern close to the Class 10 board paper | Secure algebra, proof-style geometry, and a decision on the Advanced level |
| Class 10 | Mathematics | CBSE board exam plus 20 school marks | Board readiness in Standard (041) or Basic (241) |
"NCERT first" is the rule that runs through all five years. Every CBSE paper is written from the NCERT syllabus, so a tutor should make sure each textbook exercise and example is understood before reaching for reference books or extra worksheets. Reference books are useful for practice volume; they are not the syllabus.
The middle years now use the Ganita Prakash series. Because the books are recent, older guidebooks and last year's notes from a cousin may not match chapter for chapter, so a tutor should always work from the edition the school has issued. Across the three years the content grows along four strands:
What matters most in these years is less the topic list than the habits. A Class 7 student who writes one line per step, checks answers by substitution and can explain why a method works will find Class 9 manageable. One who has survived on shortcuts will meet Ganita Manjari's proof-based geometry and new algebra chapters unprepared. For a closer look at the new middle-school books, read our guide to the Ganita Prakash and the other new middle-school books.
Class 9 is where the 2026-27 changes are largest. The new book is Ganita Manjari, and CBSE's curriculum lists fifteen chapters in six units. Parents who remember the older Class 9 book will notice new chapter titles: Sequences and Progressions now sits in Class 9 algebra, Area and Perimeter joins Surface Area and Volume, and there is an Introduction to Probability.
| Unit | Chapters | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Number System | Number System | 7 |
| Algebra | Introduction to Polynomials; Sequences and Progressions; Exploring Algebraic Identities; Linear Equations in Two Variables | 20 |
| Coordinate Geometry | Coordinate Geometry | 4 |
| Geometry | Introduction to Euclid's Geometry: Axioms and Postulates; Lines and Angles; Triangles – Congruence Theorems; 4-gons (Quadrilaterals); Circles | 25 |
| Mensuration | Area and Perimeter; Surface Area and Volume | 14 |
| Statistics and Probability | Statistics; Introduction to Probability | 10 |
Geometry carries 25 of the 80 marks, the largest share, and it is also where Class 9 students find the jump hardest: congruence theorems and quadrilateral properties need reasons for every statement. The school also awards 20 internal marks, split 10 for tests and multiple assessment, 5 for the portfolio and 5 for lab work. Ganita Manjari's syllabus also brings in Indian mathematics: the curriculum names Brahmagupta's work on the quadratic formula, Madhava's series for pi and Aryabhata's sine and cosine, and a tutor can use that history to make a method stick.
From 2026-27 the shared syllabus and its 80-mark paper apply to every Class 9 student. In addition, a family may add Advanced maths, Advanced science, the pair, or neither. Choosing Advanced maths means one more paper, worth 25 marks and an hour long, set wholly at the higher-order end, on six extra chapters: Sets; Logarithms; Relations and Functions; Coordinate Geometry; Combinatorics; and Exploring some more Progressions.
Who should take it? The six chapters read like a preview of Class 11: sets, functions, logarithms and counting. Students who enjoy maths and are thinking of the science stream, or of JEE later, gain an early start. Students already stretched by the common syllabus gain little, because the Advanced marks do not lift the aggregate, and the extra load can cost marks in the paper that does count. A tutor can help by securing the common syllabus first and adding Advanced chapters only once the core is stable. Our detailed guide to the Class 9 Advanced papers in Gurgaon weighs the decision for maths and science together.
This year's Class 10 batch keeps the old two-level choice, Mathematics Standard (041) or Mathematics Basic (241), both 80 marks in three hours, with the NCERT book "Mathematics". They are also in the two-exam system: a compulsory main exam from mid-February and a May exam in which students who have passed can improve in up to three subjects. The unit weightage, the Standard or Basic decision and a term-by-term board plan are on our Class 10 maths tutor page for Gurgaon, and our CBSE Class 10 maths preparation guide works through the chapters.
CBSE publishes a question paper design for each class that sets how marks are spread across kinds of thinking. Reading it is the quickest way to see what a paper will feel like.
| Paper | Remembering and understanding | Applying | Analysing, evaluating, creating |
|---|---|---|---|
| Class 9 (common paper) | 54% (43 marks) | 24% (19 marks) | 22% (18 marks) |
| Class 10 Standard (041) | 54% | 24% | 22% |
| Class 10 Basic (241) | 75% | 15% | 10% |
CBSE also puts roughly half of each board paper into competency questions, the kind built around a case, a source, a data set or a real application. In practice this means a student who has learnt each exercise as a type ("this is a Section 3.2 sum") is exposed. A competency question describes a situation in words, and the student has to decide which mathematics it needs. Tutoring for this is less about extra sums and more about asking "what is the question really asking?" before any working starts.
CBSE marking schemes typically split a question's marks between method and answer, which is why tutors insist on written steps. Take an original Class 10 arithmetic progression question:
Find the sum of the first 20 terms of the AP 7, 11, 15, …
A quick check: the 20th term is 7 + 19 × 4 = 83, and 20/2 × (7 + 83) = 900 as well. Suppose the student slips and writes 19 × 4 = 72. The final answer becomes 860 and is wrong, but a, d, the formula and the substitution method are all visible, so an examiner can still award the method marks. A student who wrote only "860" would get nothing. This is the single most valuable habit a CBSE maths tutor builds, from Class 6 onwards.
Find 103² without multiplying it out. Using (a + b)² = a² + 2ab + b² with a = 100 and b = 3: 10,000 + 600 + 9 = 10,609. The same idea gives 98 × 102 = (100 − 2)(100 + 2) = 10,000 − 4 = 9,996. Questions like these test whether a student sees structure, which is exactly what the "Exploring Algebraic Identities" chapter is for.
How many three-digit numbers have all three digits different? The hundreds digit can be 1 to 9 (9 choices), the tens digit any of the remaining 9 digits including 0, and the units digit any of the remaining 8. So there are 9 × 9 × 8 = 648 such numbers. The trap is giving the hundreds place 10 choices, which counts numbers like 045. Reasoning of this kind is what the Combinatorics chapter of the Advanced level builds, and it reappears in Class 11.
Operations with fractions and with negative numbers are the two gaps that resurface for years. Short daily practice fixes them far more cheaply now than in Class 9.
Students who expand brackets by memorised pattern, without seeing why, break down on identities and factorisation. A tutor should keep asking "check it with a number".
Geometry carries the largest share of Class 9 marks, and it needs written reasons. Many students know an angle is 40° but cannot say why on paper.
Long situation-based questions slow students down. Regular timed practice with them, not just textbook exercises, keeps the board paper from feeling unfamiliar.
Because Classes 6 to 9 are school-assessed, the tutor plans around the school's own calendar of periodic tests, the half-yearly exam and the annual exam, rather than a board date.
| Term | Classes 6 to 8 | Class 9 |
|---|---|---|
| April to June | Keep pace with the new chapters; fix last year's weak strand; set the one-step-per-line habit | Repair Class 8 algebra; begin Ganita Manjari geometry carefully; decide on the Advanced level with the school |
| July to September | Weekly mixed practice; first short tests; portfolio and activity work kept up | Chapter tests with written reasons; first half-papers before the half-yearly |
| October to December | Repair weak chapters from the half-yearly; word problems in every session | Mensuration and statistics; Advanced chapters for those who chose them; lab activities for internal marks |
| January to March | Revision of the full year; preview of next year's first chapter | Full 80-mark practice papers under time; error log review; plan the Class 10 start |
One session a week is usually enough in Classes 6 to 8 for a student who keeps up with school; two is common in Class 9, especially for students taking the Advanced paper. For how CBSE tuition works across subjects, see our CBSE home tutor page for Gurgaon; for science on the same board, our CBSE science tutor page.
After Class 10, CBSE students choose between Mathematics and Applied Mathematics (code 241 at senior secondary level). Applied Mathematics is an elective designed for students heading towards commerce, economics or the social sciences; in Grade 11 for 2026-27 it is one 3-hour, 80-mark paper with 20 internal marks, covering units such as numerical applications, algebra, calculus, probability, descriptive statistics and financial mathematics. Science-stream students aiming at engineering take Mathematics and often prepare for JEE alongside. The senior years are covered on our Class 11 tutors in Gurgaon and Class 12 tutors in Gurgaon pages, and entrance work on our JEE maths tutor page.
Families arriving from an ICSE school, often after a move to Gurugram, will find specific gaps rather than a whole missing year. They are set out topic by topic in our ICSE-to-CBSE maths and science gaps guide.
Abhinandan Tiwary, who writes on Class 10 CBSE and ICSE maths for NXTutors, suggests three checks in the free demo class:
Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID. Read how we check tutors for the details. A demo that does not click simply moves to the next name on your shortlist, and changing tutor later costs nothing.
CBSE maths tutors are spread across the city, so the question is usually who can reach you at your slot. Around Sector 23 and Sushant Lok Phase 1 in Central Gurugram, and around Sector 50 off Sohna Road, a tutor from a nearby sector can usually avoid the busiest roads in the evening. In Sector 82 and the New Gurugram sectors, where many societies are newer and spread out, families often pair one home session with one online session to widen the choice.
Sitting beside the student, a tutor sees every written line of maths; online can match that only when the notebook is clearly on camera. Middle-school students usually do better at home, where attention is easier to hold. See the schools families ask about below, and our guide to Gurugram schools and their boards.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and each one is shown to you before the demo. What pushes a fee up or down is covered in our Gurgaon home tuition fees guide.
Share the class, the scheme (new Class 9 or the final Standard/Basic year), the weak chapters, where you live and which evenings are free. Two or three CBSE maths tutors come back on a shortlist, and you choose who takes the demo. Other boards are on our maths home tutor page for Gurugram, and every sector and zone is listed on our page of home tutors in Gurgaon.
Parents often tell us their child's school so the tutor can follow the same board and books. These Gurugram schools follow CBSE, as shown on each school's own site or its board's directory, with the sector each is in. NXTutors has no tie-up with any school; tutors are matched by board and syllabus, and the list is alphabetical, not a ranking.
For this board: CBSE home tutors in Gurgaon.
More on how these boards differ: Gurugram schools and their boards.
Per NCERT's list: Class 6 has Ganita Prakash; Class 7 has two books, Ganita Prakash and Ganita Prakash-II; Class 8 has Ganita Prakash in Part-I and Part-II; Class 9 moves to Ganita Manjari, also in two parts. The Class 10 book is unchanged and is simply called "Mathematics". A tutor should always work from the edition the school has issued.
It is an optional second maths paper introduced in 2026-27, taken in addition to the shared 80-mark paper. It carries 25 marks, lasts an hour and is entirely higher-order work, drawn from six extra chapters: Sets, Logarithms, Relations and Functions, Coordinate Geometry, Combinatorics, and Exploring some more Progressions. Schools run it in Class 9; CBSE brings it into the Class 10 board papers in 2027-28.
No. Advanced marks stay out of the aggregate. A score of 50% or higher is noted on the marksheet as a cleared Advanced Level, and CBSE has flagged that wording as provisional. Internal assessment is identical for students who take Advanced and those who do not.
Geometry, with 25 of the 80 marks: Euclid's geometry, lines and angles, congruence of triangles, quadrilaterals and circles. Algebra is next on 20 and Mensuration on 14; Statistics and Probability has 10, Number System 7, and Coordinate Geometry the smallest share at 4.
Roughly half, according to CBSE: questions built on a case, a source, a data set or a real application, with the remainder made up of MCQs and short and long answers. In the Class 9 paper and the Class 10 Standard paper, about 22% of marks go to analysing, evaluating and creating; in Class 10 Basic, about 10%.
CBSE is discontinuing the Basic/Standard scheme. The 2026-27 Class 10 batch keeps the choice between Standard (041) and Basic (241); students who entered Class 9 in 2026-27 follow the common paper with the optional Advanced level instead.
Applied Mathematics (code 241 at senior secondary level) is a CBSE elective designed for students heading towards commerce, economics or the social sciences. In Grade 11 for 2026-27 the written paper is three hours and 80 marks, with 20 more from the school, with units such as calculus, probability, statistics and financial mathematics.
For Classes 6 to 8, one session a week is usually enough if the student keeps up with school. In Class 9, two a week is common, especially for students who take the Advanced paper. Whatever the class, the opening session is a free demo with the tutor's fee shown beforehand.
Tell us the class, board and your area. We share two or three matched tutors, and the first class is a free demo.
