Old Gurgaon and Palam Vihar tuition: what do parents ask about timings, parking and siblings?
Old Gurgaon and Palam Vihar are the settled heart of the city. Most homes here are independent houses and builder floors in plotted sectors and older colonies, often with extended families living together, and many tutors have lived and taught in the same few sectors for years. Arranging tuition is simpler in some ways than in the new towers, but the busy market roads, narrow lanes and afternoon school timings bring their own questions.
This guide covers the areas in this zone of Gurgaon (Gurugram), how home tuition typically runs in plotted sectors, the boards and classes families here usually ask about, when online is worth considering, and a practical checklist for booking a demo. It also looks at a common situation in these homes: tuition for two or more children, or cousins, under one roof. To see tutors who teach in this zone, go to home tutors in Old Gurugram.
Areas this guide covers
This zone covers Sectors 1 to 23 and Palam Vihar. Area pages for this part of the city are still being added, so for now start with:
- Sector 3, which also lists tutors for the surrounding older sectors
Families on the edges of this zone often find tutors on the neighbouring area pages too:
- Towards MG Road: Sector 24
- Towards Dwarka Expressway: Sector 37D, Sector 99A, Sector 106, Sector 109, Sector 110A, Sector 112 and Sector 113
If you live in those newer sectors, our New Gurgaon and Dwarka Expressway guide fits better. For the DLF phases and MG Road, see the Golf Course Road and DLF guide.
How home tuition works in this zone
Plotted sectors and independent houses
Most tutors here simply ring the bell. There is no society app and usually no guard, which makes the first visit quick. It also means you are the only check on who comes to the door, so meet the tutor at the demo, keep an adult at home during classes, and read our home tutor safety checklist before you start.
Parking is the practical snag. Lanes in the older sectors are narrow and cars line both sides in the evening. Many tutors here travel by two-wheeler for this reason. If the tutor drives, tell them where they can stop without blocking a neighbour's gate.
Where to hold the class
In a busy multi-generation home, the right room matters as much as the right tutor. Pick a table away from the television and the main entrance, with good light, where a family member can pass by without interrupting. A fixed spot helps the child treat tuition as a routine.
Timings
Children in the older sectors often get home from school earlier than those in the far newer sectors, so afternoon classes are common and practical. The roads around the old city markets become slow in the evening, and a tutor crossing NH-48 from the other side of the city at peak time will struggle to be punctual. An afternoon or early-evening slot, with a tutor from within the zone, is usually the most reliable arrangement.
Travel from neighbouring zones
Many tutors in this zone live locally, and a good number have taught board classes here for a long time. Palam Vihar can also draw on tutors from the nearer Dwarka Expressway sectors. Tutors from the MG Road side can reach the eastern old sectors in the afternoon. Tutors from Sohna Road, Golf Course Extension Road or New Gurgaon are rarely a realistic weekday option.
Boards and classes families here commonly look for
CBSE is the most common board in this zone, and board years drive most requests: Class 10 Maths and Science, and Class 12 Physics, Chemistry and Maths, with some families also asking for Accountancy, Hindi or Sanskrit. JEE and NEET preparation alongside school is common from Class 11. There are ICSE and ISC families too, and a smaller number on international boards.
Because many children here share a home with siblings or cousins in nearby classes, parents often ask whether one tutor can teach two children. For Classes 6 to 10 this can work well, as separate back-to-back classes on the same visit. In senior classes, subject specialists usually serve each child better. For board-year help, see our CBSE Class 10 Science notes and CBSE Class 12 Physics strategies.
Home or online?
| Situation | What usually works |
|---|---|
| Two children in Classes 6–10 at home | Home tuition, back-to-back classes on the same visit |
| Class 10 or 12 board year, CBSE | Home tuition with a local, experienced board-class tutor |
| Home is busy and noisy in the evening | Afternoon home class, or online in a quiet room later |
| IB or IGCSE student, few specialists nearby | Online, to widen the choice of tutors |
| Class 11–12 student with JEE or NEET coaching | Home at the weekend, online doubt sessions on weekdays |
| Short revision before pre-boards | Extra online sessions with the regular home tutor |
Checklist for booking a demo in this zone
- Give your sector or colony, and a landmark the tutor will recognise.
- Tell the tutor where to park or suggest coming by two-wheeler.

- If two children need tuition, say so upfront and ask about back-to-back classes.
- Prefer an afternoon or early-evening demo slot, before the market traffic builds.
- Ask the tutor which boards and classes they have taught recently, not just in total.
- Share the latest school test and the school's exam calendar.
- Keep an adult at home and use our demo class checklist to judge the class.
How NXTutors can help
Tell us the subject, class, board and your sector or colony, and whether you want home or online classes. We shortlist two or three matched tutors, you see each tutor's fee before the demo, and the first class is a free demo. Switching tutor later is free. Good starting points are Maths home tutors in Gurgaon, Science home tutors and Physics home tutors.
Across NXTutors most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end. A tutor who lives nearby spends less time travelling, which is one of the factors that shapes a fee; our home tuition fees guide for Gurgaon explains the rest. The guide to home tuition in Gurgaon covers the whole city.
Frequently asked questions
Can one tutor teach both my children?
Often, yes, for Classes 6 to 10, as separate classes on the same visit. Tell us both classes and boards when you ask, so the shortlist includes tutors who cover both.
Is there an area page for Palam Vihar?
Not yet. Include Palam Vihar in your request and we match tutors who can reach it; the nearer Dwarka Expressway area pages also list tutors close to Palam Vihar.
Our house has no guard or gate. How do we keep tuition safe?
Meet the tutor at the demo, keep an adult at home during classes, hold the class in a shared room, and keep class messages on a parent's phone.
Are experienced board-class tutors easier to find here?
Many tutors in the older sectors have taught CBSE board classes locally for years. Still ask about recent experience with the current syllabus, and judge the demo on teaching, not on years alone.
When does online make more sense in Old Gurgaon?
Mainly for international boards or rare subjects where no suitable tutor is close by, and for extra revision sessions before exams. For regular board-year teaching, most families here prefer a home tutor.
