What home tuition costs in Gurgaon

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.

Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Class 10 science tutors in Gurgaon (Gurugram): one board year, four different papers

A Class 10 science tutor earns their fee by knowing exactly which paper your child will sit. A CBSE student writes one integrated Science paper, with a second Board attempt in May if needed. An ICSE student writes three separate papers in physics, chemistry and biology. An IGCSE student sits Core or Extended papers plus a practical paper, and a Haryana Board student has a separate practical exam. The chapters overlap a great deal; the marking does not. This guide sets out each board's Class 10 science for the 2026-27 session, where marks usually leak, three worked examples, a term-by-term plan and what to test in a free demo. Our author, Aaditya Kashyap, tutors CBSE and ICSE science on NXTutors through to the Class 10 board exam.

Class 10 science by board: what your child actually sits

Gurugram families sit all four of these routes, sometimes in the same tower. Before a tutor plans a single lesson, they should know which row of this table applies.

Refraction through a lens, for instance, becomes a case-based question in CBSE, a structured question with full working in ICSE, and an MCQ plus a practical write-up in IGCSE. For Classes 6 to 9 across boards, see our science home tutors in Gurgaon page.

CBSE Class 10 science in 2026-27

CBSE Class 10 is still taught from the NCERT textbook titled Science. The 2026-27 curriculum gives five units for the 80-mark Board paper:

CBSE Class X Science (086), 2026-27: Board paper units
UnitWhat it examinesMarks
Chemical Substances – Nature and BehaviourChemical reactions and equations; acids, bases and salts; metals and non-metals; carbon and its compounds25
World of LivingLife processes; control and coordination; reproduction; heredity25
Natural PhenomenaLight: reflection, refraction, lenses, the human eye, the prism12
Effects of CurrentElectricity; magnetic effects of current13
Natural ResourcesOur environment05
Internal assessment in school: four equal parts of 5, one of them practical work20

Taught in class, but not in the year-end paper

Three topics stay in the 2026-27 syllabus, yet CBSE assesses them formatively during the year and leaves them out of the year-end paper: Evolution; Periodic Classification of Elements; and, from the magnetism chapter, the motor, the generator and electromagnetic induction. Don't drill them for the Board paper, as some older guides do; don't skip them either, because school tests and portfolio work, and so the internal marks, draw on them. Learn them once, well, for school.

How the paper is weighted

Under the 2026-27 question design, 50% of Science marks reward knowing and understanding, 30% reward applying ideas, and the remaining 20% go to analysing, evaluating and creating. Roughly one question in three offers an internal choice. CBSE also puts about half of all Board questions in the competency-focused bracket (case, source, data and application items). For a Class 10 student that means a situation never seen in the textbook, solved with a textbook concept. Chapter-by-chapter reactions, diagrams and formulae are in our CBSE Class 10 science notes; the full CBSE ladder from Class 6, with the practical list, is on our CBSE science tutors in Gurgaon page.

What Class 10 builds on, and what comes after

Valency from Class 9 sits under every Class 10 equation, and cells and tissues under life processes. (This year's Class 9 uses the new Exploration book and an optional Advanced level that reaches the Class X Board exam in 2027-28; today's Class 10 is unaffected.) If the base is shaky, see our Class 9 science tutors in Gurgaon. In Class 11 the three sciences separate, and the habits built now carry straight over.

The two CBSE Board exams, and how to plan around them

CBSE has held two Board examinations for Class X since the 2026 exams. The rules, as CBSE has published them:

  • Every student must sit the first (main) examination, which begins in mid-February.
  • The second examination comes in May. It is an improvement attempt: an eligible student who has passed may resit Science, Maths, Social Science or a language, three subjects at most.
  • School-based internal assessment happens once, ahead of the main exam, so the 20 internal marks carry over unchanged to May.
  • Absence from three or more subjects in February rules out the May exam; CBSE then treats the student as "Essential Repeat".
  • The 2026 cycle ran its main exam from 17 February to 11 March and its second exam from 15 to 21 May, and regular students kept the higher of their two results. The 2027 dates will appear only in CBSE's own date sheet.

Our advice: treat February as the real exam. The second exam is useful insurance if Science goes badly, but it falls just as Class 11 begins. A tutor should keep a short "May list" of weak chapters after the main exam, so that if the family chooses the second attempt, revision starts at once rather than from scratch.

ICSE Class 10: three science papers, not one

For ICSE, CISCE splits Science into a Physics paper, a Chemistry paper and a Biology paper. Each written paper is out of 80, and practical work assessed in school adds 20 more to each. Your child is effectively preparing for three science exams. The Class 10 headings for the 2027 examination are:

ICSE Class X science headings (2027 syllabus)
PaperHeadingsOur Gurgaon page
PhysicsForce, Work, Power and Energy; Light; Sound; Electricity and Magnetism; Heat; Modern PhysicsICSE physics tutors
ChemistryPeriodic Properties; Chemical Bonding; Acids, Bases and Salts; Analytical Chemistry; Mole Concept and Stoichiometry; Electrolysis; Metallurgy; Study of Compounds; Organic ChemistryICSE chemistry tutors
BiologyBasic Biology; Plant Physiology; Human Anatomy and Physiology; Population; Human Evolution; PollutionICSE biology tutors

ICSE Chemistry examines the periodic table (to period 4) and the mole concept, and ICSE Physics covers heat, sound and modern physics; none of these is in the CBSE Class 10 Board paper. A CBSE-only tutor is therefore the wrong hire for ICSE science.

IGCSE sciences in Grade 10

Under the 2026–2028 Cambridge syllabuses for IGCSE Physics, Chemistry and Biology, each candidate sits three papers. On the Core route that means a 40-question multiple-choice paper (Paper 1) and an 80-mark theory paper (Paper 3), with grades C to G open. On the Extended route Papers 2 and 4 follow the same formats, and the grade range widens to A* to G. Every candidate's third paper tests practical skills, sat either as Paper 5 (a hands-on Practical Test) or as Paper 6 (a written Alternative to Practical); whichever is taken carries 20% of the grade. Cambridge offers these sciences in the June and November series, and Indian centres also get a March series.

Some schools enter students for Combined Science (0653, a single award) or Co-ordinated Sciences (0654, which earns two grades on a scale from A*A* to GG) instead of three separate sciences; ask the school for the code and tier before the demo. Paper 6 (describing a method, a fair test and a results table) is very teachable at home. See our IGCSE science tutors in Gurgaon for the Combined and Co-ordinated options.

Haryana Board (BSEH) Class 10 science

Haryana Board Science (013) uses the same NCERT chapters, but splits the marks differently: 80 for the annual theory exam, 10 for a practical exam of its own and 10 for internal assessment. Unit marks also differ slightly:

Class 10 Science unit marks: BSEH and CBSE, 2026-27
UnitBSEH (013)CBSE (086)
Chemical Substances – Nature and Behaviour2625
World of Living2425
Natural Phenomena1412
Effects of Current1213
Natural Resources0405

With a separate practical exam, rehearsing each experiment matters as much as theory. For every HBSE subject, see our Haryana Board tutors in Gurgaon.

Where Class 10 science marks usually leak

Class 10 science marks rarely go for lack of study. They go in small, repeatable ways that show up in any marked school test:

  • Equations without balancing or state symbols. A correct product with an unbalanced equation loses part of the mark in every board.
  • Sign convention in light. Mixing up the signs for u, v and f in the mirror and lens formulae turns a correct method into a wrong answer.
  • Diagrams drawn from memory without labels. A nephron or a ray diagram without labelled parts or arrowheads earns little, however neat.
  • Vague biology words. "Food pipe" where the question expects "oesophagus"; "plant food" for "glucose".
  • Case-based questions read too fast. The data in the passage is the clue; students answer from memory instead of the set-up given.
  • Internal assessment left to chance. Portfolio and practical records count, and in CBSE they are done only once.

Three worked mini-examples

Each item below was written for this page, and the working is set out in the order an examiner reads it.

1. Electricity: same resistors, two circuits

Two identical 8 Ω resistors are connected to a 4 V battery, first in series and then in parallel. Compare the current drawn and the power used.

Series: R = 8 + 8 = 16 Ω, so I = V/R = 4/16 = 0.25 A and P = VI = 4 × 0.25 = 1 W. Parallel: 1/R = 1/8 + 1/8 = 2/8, so R = 4 Ω, I = 4/4 = 1 A and P = 4 × 1 = 4 W. In parallel each resistor gets the full 4 V, so the circuit draws four times the power: the same reason household appliances are wired in parallel.

2. Light: a concave lens and its signs

An object stands 30 cm from a concave lens whose focal length is 15 cm. Locate the image, find the magnification and state the power.

Signs first: u = −30 cm and, for a concave lens, f = −15 cm. From 1/v − 1/u = 1/f, 1/v = −1/15 − 1/30 = −3/30, so v = −10 cm: the image is on the object's side, so virtual. m = v/u = (−10)/(−30) = +1/3: erect and one-third the size. P = 1/f = 1/(−0.15 m) ≈ −6.7 D. A concave lens always gives this kind of image, which is a useful sense-check.

3. Chemistry: a displacement reaction

Aluminium foil is placed in blue copper sulphate solution. Write the balanced equation and explain what is seen.

2Al(s) + 3CuSO₄(aq) → Al₂(SO₄)₃(aq) + 3Cu(s). Check: 2 Al, 3 Cu and 3 SO₄ on each side. Aluminium is more reactive than copper, so it displaces copper: the blue colour fades and a reddish-brown coating forms on the foil. This is the same idea as the CBSE practical that ranks Zn, Fe, Cu and Al by reactivity.

A good habit for all three: write the formula or principle first, substitute with signs and units, and finish with a one-line statement that answers the question. ICSE examiners in particular expect every step.

How a home tutor plans the Class 10 science year

Across Gurugram, Class 10 normally begins in April and reaches the half-yearly around September; individual schools shift these dates a little. For a CBSE or HBSE student, the year tends to fall into these blocks:

A Class 10 science tutoring plan, term by term
TermScience focusAssessment link
April to JuneChemical reactions, acids and bases, life processes; repair Class 9 gaps in valency and motionStart the portfolio and practical record properly from the first experiment
July to SeptemberMetals, carbon compounds, light, control and coordination; chapter tests with diagrams and numericalsHalf-yearly as a rehearsal; list the three weakest chapters per strand
October to DecemberElectricity, magnetic effects, reproduction, heredity, environment; formative-only chapters done once for schoolFinish internal assessment; first full papers timed by section
December to FebruaryFull papers against the marking scheme; case-based practice; revise from the mistakes notebookPre-boards and practicals; main Board exam from mid-February
March to MayOnly if needed: targeted revision of weak chapters for the second examCBSE second exam in May (no new internal marks)

ICSE students follow the same arc but run three subjects in parallel, so the tutor fixes a weekly rotation (for example, physics and chemistry each week, biology on alternate weeks) and sets a separate timed paper per subject from the pre-boards. IGCSE students work backwards from their exam series, with Paper 5 or Paper 6 practice built in from the first term. In the board year, most students need two or three science sessions a week. Planning maths and the other subjects too? Start from the Class 10 tuition guide for Gurgaon, and see the Class 10 maths tutors in Gurgaon for the maths paper.

Students who also attend JEE or NEET foundation classes should keep the home tutor on board-style answers, leaving extra depth to the coaching. How the two can share a week is set out under IIT foundation tuition in Gurgaon.

Home, online or hybrid: timing in Gurugram

A board-year evening holds school, the ride home, perhaps coaching, and the rush-hour crawl on Gurgaon's main roads. A tutor at home removes the student's share of that travel and can watch each diagram and numerical being written. Going online lets you choose a tutor anywhere in Gurugram, useful when an ICSE or IGCSE science specialist lives far from you, provided the student's page is visible on camera or a tablet. A common compromise: the home visit for teaching, an online slot later in the week for a timed test.

Older neighbourhoods such as Sector 57, Sushant Lok Phase 1 and Palam Vihar usually have CBSE science tutors close by for after-school slots. Further out, in New Gurugram sectors like Sector 82, weekend mornings go first and a hybrid arrangement often reaches a stronger board specialist. Fix the slot well before December, when pre-board demand fills tutors' evenings. Every sector and zone is on our page of home tutors in Gurgaon; for online-only help, try the national Class 10 science tutor page.

Choosing and testing a Class 10 science tutor

Send us the board, the syllabus code if your child has one, the weak strand, where you live and when the student is free. Within the shortlist of two or three matched names, each fee is shown. Treat the free demo as a test of board-year knowledge, not only of chemistry:

  1. Ask which topics are taught but not examined in CBSE this year, or which papers your ICSE or IGCSE child sits. A board-year tutor answers at once.
  2. Hand over a recent school test. Watch whether they read the marks lost, not just the total.
  3. Ask for one diagram and one numerical. Do they insist on labels, arrows, signs and units?
  4. Give them a case-based question from the sample paper and see how they teach the reasoning.
  5. Ask for a plan to the main exam, including internal assessment and, for CBSE, what happens if a second attempt is needed.

Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID (what the ID check covers). Not happy after the demo? We line up another tutor from the shortlist, and changing tutor mid-year is free too.

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. To budget for a full board year, read our Gurgaon home tuition fees guide.

Schools families ask about

Parents often tell us their child's school so the tutor can follow the same board and books. These Gurugram schools follow CBSE, ICSE and ISC, IB or Cambridge IGCSE, as shown on each school's own site or its board's directory, with the sector each is in. NXTutors has no tie-up with any school; tutors are matched by board and syllabus, and the list is alphabetical, not a ranking.

Class 10 Science Home Tutor in Gurgaon (Gurugram): common questions

Which CBSE Class 10 science chapters are not in the 2026-27 Board paper?

Three topics are taught but assessed only formatively in school under CBSE's 2026-27 curriculum: Evolution, the periodic classification chapter, and the part of the magnetism chapter dealing with motors, generators and electromagnetic induction. They stay out of the year-end Board paper, yet school tests and the 20 internal marks can draw on them, so a tutor teaches them once, properly, without drilling them for February.

Should my child plan to use the second CBSE Class 10 Board exam in May?

Plan for February. The mid-February main exam is compulsory for every student. The May sitting is for improvement only: a student who has passed may resit up to three subjects, picked from Science, Maths, Social Science or a language, while the internal marks stay as they were. A tutor can keep a short list of weak chapters after February so that revision for May, if chosen, starts straight away.

Does an ICSE Class 10 student need three different science tutors?

Not usually. Physics, Chemistry and Biology are examined as separate ICSE papers, each written out of 80 with another 20 for practical work, so real depth is needed in all three. Many families take one tutor for physics and chemistry, which share numericals and equations, and manage biology with a plan or a lighter weekly session. If one paper is clearly weak, start with a specialist for that paper.

How is Haryana Board Class 10 science different from CBSE?

Both follow the NCERT chapters, but BSEH Science (013) splits the 100 marks as 80 for the annual theory exam, 10 for a practical exam held on its own, and 10 for internal assessment. Unit marks differ slightly too: Natural Phenomena carries 14 in BSEH against 12 in CBSE in 2026-27. HBSE students should rehearse each practical's aim, set-up and precautions for that separate exam.

My child is in IGCSE Grade 10. Is Core or Extended decided by us?

The school normally makes the entry, but you should know which route it is. On the Core route the grades available run from C down to G, while Extended reaches up to A*, and both routes include a practical paper or the Alternative to Practical. Ask the school for the route and the syllabus code (separate sciences, 0653 or 0654) before the demo, because they decide what the tutor teaches.

When should a Class 10 science tutor start?

April or the summer break is ideal: there is time to fix Class 9 gaps and to set up the practical record and portfolio from the first experiment. July still works well. A tutor who joins after the pre-boards can sharpen timed papers and diagrams, but rebuilding weak foundations at that stage is rarely possible.

Is one tutor for Class 10 maths and science a good idea?

It can be, when the student needs steady support in both and the tutor is as strong in physics numericals as in biology and chemistry. If one subject is clearly the problem, a specialist for that subject usually does more. Try both subjects in the free demo before deciding.

How much does a Class 10 science home tutor cost in Gurgaon?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Fees are set by the tutors themselves, and each one is listed beside the tutor's name before the free demo is booked.
